Kendel wandered through Imre somewhat aimlessly. The good musicians did not show up to play at the Eolian until near dark so he had some time to kill. He peered into shops selling all kinds of strange merchandise. Some sold iron to ward away evil spirits and intruders. Others advertised fancy drinks that could turn your hair different colors. There really was no end to what people would sell down here. Distracted by a shrunken head in one window, Kendel ran straight into a big man wearing a cloak with a hood that disguised his face. Recovering just enough to keep from falling, Kendel backed away from the man who hurried past. A very disgruntled Kendel leaned against a wall hoping to catch his breath, but the wall fell through! Or rather, there was no wall there at all. He fell into a dimly lit room full of people betting on a strange dice game. They were casting a dice that changed based on who threw it. One unfortunate person guessed four numbers and when he threw the dice It landed on a forty six. He grumbled about rigged odds and stormed out leaving a pile of money near the table. Another person took the dice and guessed only two numbers. As the dice was thrown, it changed shape so as to reflect only six sides. Intrigued, Kendel stayed a bit to try to figure out how exactly the game worked. I second what Elbereth said. I'd take her, but I'm in Imre (ninja'd by Karnage. I am glad you caught that.) I'll vote for Lumgol right now for the tuition reduction, but I really want to have a reason to vote for someone this cycle other than that they are rich. I'm struggling to find actual reasons to vote for people with so much of the game being role play and the ease of slipping in helpful rule clarifications that do not actually help the village very much. (I realize I am the biggest culprit of taking and expanding on small parts of the rules and then just role playing, but it is mostly to keep school affordable. I suppose the best I can do is share my gut reads and ask that everyone else do the same. I am leaning that Xinoehp is good. I have to check myself on Zillah, Kynedath and Araris because my gut is auto set to be wary of them from the start of the game. I am also slightly wary of Karnage, but that is mostly because I have not played with them before and they seem like they are good and I do not want to be caught unaware. I have no actual solid suspicions.

Kendel nervously played with the piece of candy in his pocket. It bounced and jostled with the handful of jabs Kendel brought along in case something caught his eye. Not to mention the real reason he came to Imre. He wanted to hear the most sublime music available to him and the Eolian was the only place to get it. Sure some of the hopefuls there were mediocre at best, but every so often they brought on the best of the best- those who had been awarded the golden pipes. They had a contract for which they were well compensated to spend time in Imre and perform in front of adoring crowds in the Eolian. Kendel's audacious plan was to 'accidentally' bump into one of the big ticket acts and offer to buy them lunch as a way of saying sorry. Then he would have an hour to sit and ask questions about their method and path to success. With that kind of advantage, Kendel would someday join the greats that blessed audiences everywhere with their music. He counted out the money in his pocket again by shifting each drab past the treat. It would just have to be a relatively inexpensive lunch.

Wow, Elbereth! That write up was devastating! Well done, heartless skindancers! If that is your real name. Also, does anyone want to claim this nameless child? I'm sorry you were brought on the horns, Experience. At least we only had one person disciplined and it is just an apology. I super believe in you, Sart. You can break out! She will be waiting for you.

I agree that the nobles have the most to gain with the body guards, assassins, and grams; but the vintish nobleman by design have the hardest time staying at the grey man. I suppose the Aturan Nobles do not have the same requirements to stay at the most expensive place they can afford, so they might have the most reason to try taking a gap term. It would be very interesting to see what comes and goes, especially in the black market. You could get a pretty clear picture of what is going on in the underground. I might even consider doing that, but I would like to start learning cool abilities so it will have to wait until I am expelled or worse. As I see it, the only reason for Commoners and Edema Ruh to go is to get the pipes. You can get discounts from putting a contract on the black market, but it's unlikely they will put anything on there that is worth more than the tuition reduction given by impressing a master. The exception I guess comes with those in artificery. They stand to make a real profit on the market, so it might make sense for them to visit once every term or just live there. This is a terrifying development. I have barely begun to realize the possibilities with this game! I agree that probably everyone should at least visit once. Most of us should try for the talent pipes at some point, too. That makes a lot of sense that you may as well spend all the money you have in the one turn that you are there, so you may as well study for the other half of the cycle. Double posting because I the cycle is ending sorry sorry sorry

I realized I never responded to you about this. I was not in contact with Hemalurgic Headshot. I don't know if anyone was. I'm sorry I have been lax in private messaging people. It is neat to have a game with no restrictions on private messaging that it seems like no one is using. I understand that using private messages has the possibility of increasing tuition, but if the average player posted four times last cycle that allows for twelve private messages per player before any one of them had to worry about tuition increases. I realize that I am part of the problem because I posted twelve times in thread and I only used seven of the thirty six private messages available to me. I am afraid this month will not be much better either because we are coming up on the end of it. I will try to do better next turn and I invite anyone to follow up with me on that. I feel like there is a lot more information to be gained from private messages than the thread, because people are more willing to share when they know they are not being listened to by twenty six third parties. It also lends itself to information sharing because if I give quid pro quo information, no one is receiving it for free. Sorry for the random treatise on why I like private messages. Kendel walked back toward his dorms. Maybe he should stop by the windy tower and play for a while. It would help him de-stress and maybe he would be thrown a little money for a hot meal. As he bent his way to go play, something came to him. It started quiet, but it was some sublime tune. He turned again to follow the sound. It filled with crescendos and decrescendos. Sometimes it became so quiet he could hardly hear and Kendel was afraid he had made a wrong turn, but always it came back as strong and sweet as before. As he walked he realized he was not the only person drawn by the music dozens and then scores of people flocking to get a view of the master who created this tune. Kendel had never been so pleased by his small frame as he was as he quickly shot between gaps of the newly formed throng that created a temporary path to the front. Finally pushing to where he could see, there was a student sat at a magnificent piano. His ears were swooning with pleasure and it looked like some of the women in the crowd were doing the same. Then as the music rose building to a grand climax, the musician struck a final chord and all was silent. The crowd held its breath as the notes faded on the wind. Then they erupted with applause. The pianist looked up like he was shocked anyone was listening. He stood and gave a quick bow as people threw jots and drabs to him. He certainly deserved them for such beauty. Kendel wished he could stay to hear a reprise, but he had other obligations so he made his way out of the crowd. Thank you Burnt and Devotary, I will respond to you post haste.

This is the fun part where I waited too long to vote, still don't have any really solid leads, and have to place a second vote on someone or vote on an Edema Ruh. Looking at the results of last cycle, it may be a little easier for me to guess who is staying at the Golden Pony. Clearly Coda, Xino, and Bard were not staying there. That leaves only the other seventeen to guess from. Sart and Lord Silberfarben have two votes each already. I think I will submit a complaint about Karnage. He is too happy to be a real student . It was probably his intention to remove a noble by driving him insane anyway. I've had a think on Imre and I want to get some outside opinions. Is it worth spending half of a term there? When we pay tuition, we are paying for the whole semester. Effectively we have paid for the opportunity to impress a master two times. If we go to Imre, either for the first half or the second half of the term, are we giving up half of the resource for which we have already paid? The balance to that is if it is worth the hassle of dropping out of class for a whole cycle and living in sub-optimal housing in order to spend tuition money in Imre. I realize there are some classes who lack that option anyway, but theoretically which is more valuable?

Kendel was, shockingly, in class for once. Not only that, but he was actually enjoying the material. Linguistics might be the topic he needed to study. The assignment was on ancient epics. People passed these epics from generation to generation through song. How inspired. We still tell some stories through song, Kendel reminded himself. Somehow these stories should not count. Oh to go back to when all language was music. That would be wonderful. Ever since written language caught hold, music became more and more trivialized. People still would use some music for entertainment, but the songs lost their meaning somewhere along the way. Aaand he was off track again. He listened intently trying to figure out where they were in the discussion. "The stories held in these songs were passed down for dozens of generations. We see this trend holds true even now as some noble families still require their heirs to learn their heritage going back to the beginning of civilization. Some even have tunes to help them remember." The master continued. Ah, yes. That made sense. Although, why would nobles need to memorize their family. The tune thing was interesting, but surely it was all written down.

I don't think a WGG is feasible right here. You have a one in twenty shot of breaking out of the crockery. Being put in the crockery at the start of the game does give you the best chance of breaking out, but then you are stuck at your current tuition and you have no opportunity to advance in any field. If Hemalurgic Headshot comes back he is cleared in my mind because I do not think a skindancer would give up the opportunity at advancement, especially with their alternate win condition this game. ... but maybe that's what they want me to think It is very in interesting that we had so many people brought on the horns. Now that we are through the first turn I'm hoping to have a real reason behind my vote. That being the case I will wait a bit to vote, but I literally can not afford not to vote this turn. Also I thought I saw somewhere in the rules that we can not have private messages with students not currently at the university. I can not find it though. I know an expelled student can not private message students at the university, but I thought I saw something about students in Imre only I do not know who left us to go there.

As the weeks passed Kendel became more at home in the windy towers. He'd go there after, between, and sometimes during classes to practice. It would have been nice to find a better piano, but on the bright side he was getting better at improvising. Frequently people would stop in just to hear him play and sometimes they throw him a few drabs. Paying for a place to stay seemed more and more reasonable. Usually students would come in and study at the few tables in the lobby of the windy towers. Once even a master came to get out of the cold, intrigued by the music. Sometimes the guests were more loud. One day a group of arithmeticians came in. They loudly argued about statistics talking about the likelihood of complaints and what they could do to cheat the system to avoid being put on the horns. Kendel tried to play over the commotion, but he was skipping his linguistics course at the time anyway. He finally gave up and left the piano to go daydream in classes again. His favorite was when other musicians came in. Their criticisms could be biting, but in the long run he found that feedback helped him become a better musician. After all, when he performed for others, they were the ones who got to decide if it was good.

Too Long; Did not Read: We are voting for all the nobles and the commoners because some players are smarter than I am and did smart things with their calculators and this way we probably only bring one out of twenty of us on the horns for no reason. Otherwise, several of us might be brought on the horns for no reason. We aren't voting for the Edema Ruh because that might literally force them to permanently drop out of school. Outside of that, it's mostly RP and a general agreement that getting the talent pipes is good. Also there is a really good clarification post on page 3 that I recommend studying. Also Also gambling might be good and I recommend taking an extra income from Devi with no plan to pay her back. It only works once, but at that point everyone except the Edema Ruh have basically been each given a personal mommet that we have the choice of whether or not to sell on the black market. Things you'll miss by skipping the last four pages: people have been pretty open about what fields they plan to go into, but even I haven't been able to keep up with that and I did nothing but this all day.

Yep, I have no intention on voting on two people... maybe ever. I am glad for the second vote, but the first vote gets me a tuition reduction. When I have someone I am actually suspicious of I will happily put both of my votes on the same one to make sure they get DP and, with a little help from the masters, expelled. Until then, it wouldn't hurt for me to spread the vote a little more, but I'd prefer to have the rest of the students vote. Therefore I will not be supplying them an out by doing their voting job for them. I am certainly not married to my vote on Elandera, but I also don't care to move it. I do find it interesting that Karnage has two votes and I'd like to humbly suggest either Straw or Hemalurgic Headshot move their vote to spread it a little thinner. Also of interest, we have yet to hear from @Lumgol @Experience @Araris Valerian @Rathmaskal @STINK @Walin @GreenRover and @Young Bard . Please come play with us. We still have about 18 hours in the turn, but I would love to hear your takes on the rules so far. Also @Haelbarde, did you find a last name for your character? @Kynedath, I know you don't like voting C1, but it might help to role play or something to bring costs down a bit. Same for you Healbarde. Your votes would serve the good of all, but most of all yourselves.

You are right. @Elbereth @little wilson Do I still get the tuition reduction if I complain about myself? I remember reading it in one of the past games, but I don't remember what the answer was or where to find it. New rant time. You made an interesting point before when you talked about expelling all the nobles. It might be a bad idea because then the nobles have an additional ten talents they aren't sinking into school and they could definitely take Imre and just run it... so why don't they justIdo that anyway? I guess Vintish nobles can only stay in the most expensive places, so they can't live in the Grey Man. Hmm. They also lose their ten talents they would spend on school anyway if they are expelled. I'd like to retract my idea that nobles are just better off not wasting time in school. Stay in school kids. Ooh a clarification ninja (the scariest of ninjas as they are clear) Soo is everyone else down just to expel everyone? no? drat. I realize this is kind of self explanatory, but does the game end instantly when the last skindancer is expelled? If we were playing horseshoes, I would have been close enough for points! Thank you for the clarification, this helps a great deal. Does Devi create master level mommets? because if that is the case, I will retract everything I have said about cheating Devi. I do not want a bunch of death mommets on my head. Good clarification. I was referring to the fact that you just tell us that we were elevated and not Maill, Wilson and Wyrmhero were elevated to El'the et al. but, it doesn't take too much effort to go back and count how many times someone has been elevated. Good clarity ninja.

Hahaha I just realized that even if I wanted a loan I couldn't get one. Well storm you too, Devi! I didn't want your stinking loans. While I'm on the topic I may as well get some more tuition reduced by ranting about my thoughts on other things in Imre. I'll start with I never recommend debt. It's a poison that takes a lot of work to get out of your system. That said, it might be worth selling actions. What I mean by that is it might be worth taking an early payday at some point in the game by trading a future role block for half again what you would be earning that term. Sure someone might block you at some point, but our elevation levels and fields are a secret and they wouldn't see it coming. Basically you would be selling your own mommet on the black market and we're cutting Devi out of the deal all together. There is my two jabs on that topic. As far as gambling, it is very interesting that it is set up that we should have a winning record. Those are some very solid odds so it might be worth throwing a little money down the pot for it. I probably will not because I am poor, but others could and it would not be the worst thing ever.

An astute observation. You hit the nail on the head as the people who post the most get killed by eliminators and the people who post the least get lynched by the village as a general rule. Sometimes they swap, but a pretty safe way to stay alive is to post two or three times a cycle. I would like to change that meta slightly, but that is the way it is for now. Exceptions include if there is a protect role in the game. Then it's all out warfare on the people who post the least because a body guard is unlikely to help people who are not involved. I didn't get that impression from the mommets, but maybe you caught something I did not. A role block is decent, but the odds of the timing ever really becoming relevant seem quite small. Especially where only a third of us can become masters at a time. When I was reading LG 18 it looked like people were voting purely for role play reasons and that had little to do with even what class people were in. I didn't read LG 33 so they may have tried this egalitarian approach.

"I am not particularly choosy. Do you have a favorite?" The stranger asked. Instantly Kendel started in his head working through songs he'd learned years ago. Bach was too serious. Mozart would have been insulted to have his pieces played on this piano. Maybe something new? He had gotten decently far into a song during Arithemetics. He hadn't tried it out on a piano yet though. He didn't want to insult the man by playing something bad. Especially after he'd been so generous! "I'm Maern, by the way." the student said, startling Kendel out of his indecision. "Oh, how stupid of me!" Kendel exclaimed. "I'm Kendel. I'm glad to meet you." Inspiration struck "You must enjoy music. Are you familiar with the lay of Sir Savien Traliard?" It was a particularly complicated piece, but after a lot of practice Kendel had been able to do it decently well. Although this piano would be a bit tough as it wasn't even originally written for a piano. He'd just have to transpose a few bits. High C was almost sharp enough that it sounded like another D, so he'd have to put it into a key that would not need that note. A few other tweaks and it wouldn't sound too bad. @xinoehp512 Wow, I'm having trouble keeping up. Good job guys! I thought I'd be posting every other entry. Let's see if we can keep this activity up all game!

Kendel threw the bag onto his back and was ready to make a hasty retreat before someone complained about him. He could barely afford school as it was and there was a rumor that if you had complaints filed against you, they charged you more! What kind of school would do that?! "Sorry" Kendel said mostly to himself, but hoping it would appease anyone he had disturbed with his song. He turned to go when someone quickly said "No need to apologize. Here." The guy threw him a couple of drabs. He almost fumbled them. For practicing instruments all his life, his reflexes still weren't great. But at least he didn't drop them. That would have been too much right now. The guy flashed a smile. "Music helps me focus." He explained. Kendel looked at the drabs in his hand. He wanted to return them. He was only messing around on the piano after all. It was a release from the pressures all around him... but every drab counted with tuition coming up. And housing has to be paid on top of that. Finally he decided. He smiled back "What would you like to hear?" He asked the student, whose name he realized he didn't know. That last one was free, but if Kendel could provide a service, maybe it would at least get him a discount on housing. @xinoehp512

Do we know how good of a performance we need in order to get the talent pipes. It occurs to me that although trying for the talent pipes gets us a one talent discount on school for the following term, it also costs us one talent this turn so we end up spending it anyway. It is nice that it is almost free to try for the pipes though and I do appreciate that. You just have to go back to school the next semester regardless of whether you succeeded or not and I don't think that's too much to ask given you really have to go out of your way to stay in Imre two turns in an row. Is anyone who has played the previous games willing to tell me how likely it is to get the pipes? I can't find it in the rules. All I was told is that it is not likely because it would devalue them if everyone just got them. Also you gain a boost of one half of a point to your base stat every time you practice. Is that calculable? If we are using a D20 to decide this as is the pattern for other elements of the game, I'm guessing we need to get our base stat plus our performance score to add up to 20 or higher. That seems reasonably doable, but not in any way easy. I'd then assume we are innately given ability on a scale from one to ten. One being the sound of nails on a chalk board and ten the ability to make angels swoon. Edema Ruh get an innate bonus in singing, but even with a base score of ten, you have a fifty-fifty chance of failing to earn the pipes. The low end might even be a five out of twenty so even the plebiest of us has a one in four shot of achieving the pipes, but then again it may be lower. @TheMightyLopen can you tell me if I'm on or near the right track on this one? I guess maybe this once Elandera It's nothing personal, I just need the money more than you do right now. If you gain another vote or two I'll find someone else to leach off of. Edit: @Elandera

Kendel trudged out into the snow . The frost was biting and the sky overcast. He wished for nothing more than to see the sun. His pack was full of papers that were meant for notes. To be fair, he had covered them in notes- except the note he had written were musical ones. The wind picked up a little forcing Kendel to seek shelter against the onslaught by pulling collar of his coat over his head. As much as it hurt to have to spend two and a half talents on this coat, It was absolutely necessary. He needed a break. A break from school. A break from the storm. A break from this life. On a whim, he ducked into the windy towers. True to their name they didn't do much to stop the draft, but at least there was a roof that kept the snow out. Plus there was a piano in here that was mostly in tune. He'd been asked to leave before for playing at four a m, but he needed a bright spot today. He sat at the piano and began to sing Blow high, blow low, let tempest tear The mainmast by the board My heart (with thoughts on thee, my dear And love well stored) Shall brave all danger, Scorn all fear The roaring winds, The raging sea With hopes on shore to be once more Safe moored with thee. Lost in the music, he didn't notice the people coming down into the lobby from their rooms to listen. When he completed his song, he looked up from the piano and realized he'd been noticed (You tend to do that when you're singing loudly.) "Oops, sorry everyone." Kendel said and stuffed the music back in his bag. I didn't write this song so it's not in RP Black and I'm not submitting it as RP. I made sure to get enough words for the tuition requirement without it. Also, I would love to interact with some of your characters. Let me know where I need to be in order to be a part of your stories and I will make it happen in a post or two if it takes some set up for why Kendel is headed there.

I think so, but I am absolutely cool with being wrong. Anything to lower tuition Here's an adjusted player list organized by rank instead of chronology Nobles: Elandera, Coda, Karnage, Hemalurgic Headshot, Lumgol, Devotary of Spontaneity, Araris, GreenRover, The Mighty Lopen Commoners: Burnt Spaghetti, DeTess, Straw, Xinoehp, Lord Silberfarben, Experience, Zillah, Rathmaskal, Sart, Stink, Walin, Young Bard Edema Ruh Haelbarde, Elkanah, StrikerEZ, CadCom, Furamirionind, Kynedath That gives us nine nobles, twelve commoners and six Edema Ruh. I recommend all nobles obtain body guards as quickly as is feasible. You have the greatest amount of freedom because you can handle financial strains the best. I will turn this into a bit of an I know you know, but I predict that one of the nobles dies first before they get the chance to exploit their wealth. I further recommend you do not reveal from where you hail as Vintish Noblemen are even more prime targets and even revealing that you are not one shrinks the pool of who might be one. Even after all this advice, I would like to emphasize that this is a game, so play however you want. These are just the opinions of an edema ruh who is trying to afford going here. I would love to hear from anyone who disagrees and thinks it would be beneficial to reveal ranks, but you also risk gathering complaints from others in doing so.

Kendel put his hand down sheepishly. The first day and he was already messing things up. He looked around at the students praying that none of them would make anything of it. Blessedly the strange woman didn't mention it further. The students waited a full fifteen minutes before the master arithmetist arrived. "You'd have hoped the master arithmetist would be able to keep track of time." Kendel joked, nudging the student sitting to his left. Unfortunately, he may have said it too loudly as he earned a glare from the master. Great. There's strike two. He was hoping to become a great master of some art, not disappoint every master as soon as they walked in. How was he supposed to rise from a lowly edema ruh when he couldn’t even make a decent impression. He corrected his posture. Perception is everything. If he was percieved as good or smart or strong, then he was. He must always appear perfect. So he messed up… Twice. He reminded himself. Still he could recover. The master began his lesson and Kendel started scribbling notes trying to keep up. He did a really good job at the start, but then something the master said reminded him of a song. Soon the words on the page were notes and lyrics, and there was no more attention left for what was actually being taught. I echo that the spreadsheets are dope! I agree with all of your post except for this. You only receive a tuition reduction for the first vote. By all means people are welcome to vote twice, but the second vote really only hurts someone. I recommend using it on people you are really suspicious of. As an Edema Ruh I will not be missing an opportunity to reduce my tuition. Rereading the older games, it looks like a big thing that came up was votes for role play motivations. This is fine, but I do suggest just using one of them. In fact, I recommend everyone vote at least once. Not only is that a good way to help us start to gather information in any elimination game, but in this game it has the added effect of barely adding up to a possible roleblock on turn one. That said, if you don't have a solid suspicion of someone, do please spread the votes a little thin. This is going to be an awesome game. It would be a shame for people to lose out on the entire university system too early. Also make sure to hit two hundred words in your analysis like I am doing right here because I can not afford to even be at this overpriced school
