  1. I assume you mean the talking metal tools?
  2. Those are the UK covers? I'd have to agree. Those, and the European cover for Elantris.
  3. Where does it say how Yelignar communicates?
  4. First off, Ruin and Preservation caused the 3 Metallic Arts to occur between them, not Ruin and Cultivation, and I believe it's been stated that Odium's shardpool is on Braize, so your presupposition is entirely correct. Also, as far as we know, Cultivation remains alive and well. That stuff out of the way, I don't believe there's enough regarding Gavilar's black sphere to really pin down what it is. It could be a corrupted spren of some kind (although I don't believe a godspren of any description could be trapped in a gem, unless there's some size-matters-not-shenanigans going on). It could be corrupted Investiture a la Nightblood's leavings. It could be all sorts of things. The only things we can infer from its appearance is that 1) it's probably bad and 2) Gavilar probably didn't realize what a bad idea it was to have it in the first place. (Judging from the shortsighted actions taken by the rest of the Sons of Honor) EDIT: I will be so unhappy when they finally make an emoticon that shortcuts from "2)". Knowing my luck, it'll probably be an Elvis-pompadour smiley, or something equally stupid.
  5. It is indeed wonderful. How did you decide where to put the metal symbols on that ring in the background?
  6. Threnody does look remarkably like Sel or Roshar in that it has creatures made of magic wandering about. Maybe Threnody used to have a single shard associated with it, until Odium came along? And maybe the method(s?) of Investiture manipulation was (were?) lost during the population's flight from "the Evil?"
  7. You know, I'd love to see the WoB that makes the connection explicit, because it's not cited on that page.
  8. I don't remember the exact phrasing, but I know Wyndle tells Lift to "Use Investiture to -" grow the plants, presumably, before getting cut off by her pointed lack of interest. This is in the first part of her interlude in WoR. EDIT: Also, the epigraph to Chapter 77 of the same book has this piece of the Diagram: "One Danger in deploying such a potent weapon will be the potential encouragement of those exploring the Nahel bond. Care must be taken to avoid placing these subjects in situations of powerful stress unless you accept the consequences of their potential Investiture."
  9. You're definitely a Sanderfan if you remember that "Radiants" doesn't show up in the correct solution (Coppermind says: "Hold the secret that broke the Knights Radiant. You may need it to destroy the new orders when they return.").
  10. And that would be reason 1 why I don't like it.
  11. Perhaps. My model does include a situation very similar to the creation of the Dor, only I have the 9 Bright Shiners picking up the power after all's said and done.
  12. If the Old Kingdom is Investiture, it'd be something along the lines of two Shards into 9 Slivers (the Great Charters, Mogget, and Orannis). I'm assuming two shards, because much like Investiture on Scadrial, we have Charter Magic, Necromancy, and Free Magic, and yes, I believe there is in fact a difference. For one thing, Free Magic is "corrupted" Charter Magic, while Necromancy uses bells - musical tones. EDIT: Sorry about de spoilerz.
  13. Arguably, Hoid didn't have powers that would have helped against the Final Empire. He didn't get access to the Metallic Arts until the end of WoA, for instance (assuming that he didn't have feruchemy before then), he didn't get access to the Dor until he stole the Moon Scepter from Shai at the beginning of tES, there's nothing about any conspicuous color auras that would speak to the 200-599ish Breaths he's got in WoR. That leaves his lightweaving (which he's had from the beginning, as part of mundane disguises going all the way back to Elantris), which is not terribly helpful for actually striking a blow against the Final Empire like Kelsier would have wanted him to. Also, 200 Breaths is not a lot to Awaken things with, so unless Hoid had a bunch of voodoo dolls on him, he couldn't have helped even if he did have the stockpile in the first place.
  14. I thought FMA was *spoilers* If so, then FMA can't be cosmere. Sadly. EDIT: Oh dear, has it been that long since I've used a spoiler-box here? Geez oh my...
  15. After Twig's done at the earliest. He might also jump to Face or Peer. Those are a thriller taking place 20 minutes into the future and a fantasy story, respectively, that he focus-tested right after Worm was done. It should be mentioned that Twig and Pact were also part of that same focus-test (although Twig was called "Boil" and had a different protag).
  16. My mistake. Yeah, you'd need something to get the electricity going in the first place. Once you have the motor in place though, you can replace any source of energy with a coinshot/lurcher.
  17. More of a theory, I don't believe it's been stated outright. (The only time the term "champion" has come up as a thing is when talking about what happened roundabout the time Honor died.) In addition, many of those examples misconstrue the term. Vin could burn the mists instead of her normal metals, and it's that power that made her Preservation's "champion," not being Mistborn. Radiants aren't chosen by Honor like the Heralds were, they're chosen by their spren. Devotion and Dominion are dead, so barring cognitive shadow shenanigans there's no one there to choose a champion in the first place, and Elantrians appear to be chosen from the Aonic population basically at random.
  18. Not necessarily. All you need is a metal turbine, and the coinshot/lurcher themselves would act as the magnet array.
  19. True, but Elantris is one of the better places to initiate a Cosmere-aware newbie, so there's a disincentive to skip it. With all of Wildbow's works disconnected from each other, Pact doesn't have that support structure. Also there are several reasons why I dislike it in and of itself, but they're all spoilers.
  20. I would disagree. Definitely jump to Twig. Much more compelling all around, IMO. Wildbow's definitely improved.
  21. 3) a way to differentiate between terrain-derived line and modifier line. Because there are far, FAR too many Aons that are nothing but tessellations of Aon Aon. (Aons Omi and Reo I'm looking at you)
  22. Balerion, Maraxes, Vhagar? Or am I misordering them (and their kin) somehow? Without looking them up, name all the mad scientist characters you can, and their stories of origin. Top 3 above 10 characters gain a rep boost.
  23. I've always pronounced it Edge-lee, mainly because I found Ed-glee to be a really awkward name (although nowhere near as awkward as some of the Aonic monstrosities - the "Aons have two hard vowels" rule was the bane of my existence). I pronounce Breeze's first name "Edge-ard" for the same reason. (Although with a name like "Ed-guard" I could tell why he jumped to a pseudonym)
  24. That's why I ask, because it's very likely that the Skybreakers are using the same mechanic as Aon Kii does to determine guilt. You may want to reword your question like so: "If Odium was mucking around on Scadrial during the Final Empire, would Ruin be able to tell what a raysium spike would steal?"
  25. Same difference really. In Mistborn, it causes the analogy to implode, and in non-Mistborn it is so useless as to not merit discussion.
