  1. Or both. Either one would be a major distraction for someone in Harmony's position.
  2. I shudder to think of the riots that would occur if any government tried to put a tax on Breath. Far too many people, even in Hallandren, who only have the one Breath would protest such a tax strenuously.
  3. I think the "Shattered/Splintered" distinction is the only thing that needs to be altered. Otherwise it looks good. ("Shattering" is reserved for the Shattering of Adonalsium, "Splintering" is the process by which a shard becomes a bunch of spren, or seons, or skaze)
  4. The "Shadow of Self" mentioned there is what the cosmere-aware characters call a "cognitive shadow" and what less aware people call a "ghost." It forms when, for whatever reason, a person's (or Shardholder's) Cognitive aspect remains behind when the rest of their spirit has gone to the Spiritual Realm. In the world of ash, that was the "mist spirit." TL;DR there's no real connection.
  5. Needs to be deeper and less pleasant, less molasses and more tar. Also there's the issue of Ati's body, but that's minor when it comes to casting. Maybe Jackie Earle Haley at his growliest, pitched way down? Also Andy Serkis needs to play the mist spirit/Leras.
  6. Kaladin's been strung up in a highstorm, remember? With only Syl and a few spheres to save him?
  7. The shardblade is a badge of office, and therefore isn't a "power" of theirs like the Surges are.
  8. But 1) the soul connection to MaiPon would be too strong for said Arelene to be taken by the Shaod in the first place, and 2) the stamps wouldn't work in Elantris even if an Arelene trained in Forgery was taken by the Shaod.
  9. The first chapter of The Bands of Mourning has been released on Tor.com, and I didn't see a thread for it yet. Shame on you all ()
  10. I liked it, personally, although Taylor's... not the most palatable of protagonists. One can see how she earns her title of "villain." Anti-villain, to be sure, but villain nonetheless.
  11. Oneiromancy, n. The study of dreams in order to predict the future. This practice, rooted in mystic tradition, can be found in numerous works of fiction, from Warbreaker to Harry Potter to "100 Dreams Interpreted: What Can Your Subconscious Be Telling You About You?"

    Lightsong & Blushweaver

The expressions and faces are spot on. Not as certain about the outfits - Blushweaver, for instance, I'd think would have something that shows a bit more, well, everything - but that's just me.
  13. Galladon, IIRC, does not have an Aon in his name, and yet he was taken by the Shaod.
  14. This sounds like exactly the sort of question to go on the big list. "How exactly do Forgery and Soulcasting differ, Realmatically?"
  15. Well, the Returned do have the choice of whether or not to go to war against what party. That's a bit higher-caliber than "Do you want a bath before or after dinner?" Also, the doctrine of the Iridescent Tones (which as far as we can tell, relates pretty accurately why and how the Returned came back) states that they came back in order to avert something they didn't like about the future. I don't recall who exactly tells them this in Tones doctrine (Can't find the place where Scoot describes it the first time), but presumably if the Returned in question didn't care about the future they were shown by whoever it was, then it stands to reason that they wouldn't have Returned in the first place. And if they cared about the future, then it stands to reason that the triggers for them to remember what that future was would be in and around their homeland (Which in the case of the Court of Gods, was Hallandren). Hence the stream of petitions (remember that according to WoB this worked in Calmseer's case), and the art reviews and oneiromancy.
  16. Yeah, I used that table on the allomancy page to be sure I'd gotten them all, and of course someone had already spilled the beans on Kredik Shaw.
  17. Hey, It's more forgiving than AonDor is.
  18. Think of it as Keys and Keyholes. Each Allomancer has one of 16 locked doors (or I guess one of 16 sets of doors, given that info?) inside them. Each metal (or I guess each metal and its godmetal alloys?) is the key opens its specific Allomancer's door, and they can open it up a crack to access the power at a normal rate, or they can swing it wide open to "flare" the power. Mistborn, of course, have access to all the doors. The metal, however, breaks down at a specific rate related to how open the door is, and as soon as it breaks down completely, the door shuts. EDIT: As for metals, it's like making an alteration to a key that allows you to open a specific door - but that alteration prevents you from using it to open the first door. The key metaphor breaks down a bit when discussing the relationship between base metals and their base alloys.
  19. Short answer: stupid mistakes. If he hadn't ripped out her earring on a whim, if he'd taken Kelsier's nascent rebellion a bit more seriously, if he'd known that someone could burn the mists, then the rest of Mistborn would be a very different story.
  20. 1) Perfect Pitch only requires the Second Heightening. It's the color-sense and the more flashy powers which require the truly obscene amounts of Breath. Also, to Return requires a Nalthian heritage (much like Scadrians and Selish, the soul isn't shaped right for worldhoppers to get those powers normally.) 2) Hoid was immortal long before the events of Warbreaker. 3) By Word of Brandon, Hoid has never used Hemalurgy to augment himself. (And frankly, it's too much soul damage for too little gain, especially with the alternative he ended up using.) I'd go with the compounding method myself. Disguise, extended lifespan and the ability to retire whenever you want? Yes please.
  21. If you're uncertain about whether your entire question goes through, you can try deleting a few earlier lines to check. The text should run back, and where it cuts off tells you where exactly your question stopped.
  22. Let's break them down, actually, so we can see what's what and what still needs to be figured out. Row 1: Unknown, Chromium, Copper, Iron. Row 2: Unknown, Nicrosil, Bronze, Steel. Row 3: Unknown, Aluminum, Atium, Tin Row 4: Unknown, Duralumin, Malatium, Pewter. Row 5: Lerasium, Cadmium, Gold, Zinc. Row 6: Kredik Shaw, Bendalloy, Electrum, Brass.
  23. I personally don't buy that myself. Maybe it would have been like that if Devotion was still alive and kicking, but Odium saw fit to make her otherwise.
  24. So why exactly are you asking the rest of us to do it for you? The OP has a good list, although you may want to check the coppermind to see if they've been answered.
