My mind is being blown just a little bit right now. That's an amazing question and answer! Well done. -

[Spoilers] Elantris Anniversary Reactions
Zas678 replied to Chaos's topic in Elantris and Emperor's Soul
Maybe a Shard's Decision is the in-world term for our Principle of Intent? Though the Decision sounds more on purpose than the Intent is. I'll swing by the bookstore tomorrow to see the context. Also, it's very very interesting to me to see that Hoid seems to have some measure of belief in the God Beyond. -

Well, those are some good answers! Although I'm a little sad that ralkalest is aluminum (cause it means that it's not Trellium), it is very interesting, and it'll allow for some interesting mechanics in the future when the cosmere starts mixing magics more plainly.- 131 replies

So I recently created a Pattern costume, which looks pretty sweet. The head is some foam core (it's kind of like a black foamy cardboard) that we traced and cut out of an enlarged canon image of pattern. For the rest of the costume, we used this image as an inspiration: Actually making it, the hardest and coolest part of it all was the head itself: And from a slightly different angle: Our goal now is to make it so that Pattern's head can spin, and for that, I need YOUR help. I recently found this amazing video of a Pattern-like head. However, the group that was providing it doesn't have a source for the video. Could anyone help me find the source for this video? Or if not, some ideas on how to create something like this? http://weloveshortvideos.com/post/131049320330/trippy Whoever can help me will get some serious brownie points. They may or may not be redeemable if any of you guys come down Utah-ways.

I've got a question. What does ralkalest look like? The un Forgeable metal. Soulstone is described as a white stone with flakes of Red. Might ralkalest look like a black metal with flakes of Red?- 131 replies

My idea is that rather than gaving to do a despike-fall-on a new spike, that perhaps she has a pocket (perhaps covered in hair so that it doesn't come in contact with her flesh) where she keeps the spikes she's using (though really, we only see the Speed spike and the Steelpush spike). As for if she had other Trellium spikes in her? I'm not sure. The text is vague.

Who is going to be at the midnight release?

Slowswift, if you come, I can pay for your meal. I know how it is to be a poor teenager. -

I'll go to dinner! -
I personally don't think Kelsier is behind the Hemalurgy. I think Marsh is in contact with his brother, (he does have a bajillion spikes and Brandon says that makes it easier to talk to someone in limbo), and I don't think a Ruin!Kelsier would give the greatest opponent to his work the key to breaking it down. Unless.... It depends on how much there is of Ruin in Ruin!Kelsier. He could go for an all out war against Suit and Wax, and helping out both with Hemalurgy makes the fight more bloody and would give Ruin more control. That would mean that Kelsier is really really far gone though. To throw away the title of the Survivor and to start inciting a war for war itself. I really hope it's not true. It could be, but I hope it's not. Yet someone's got to be showing hemalurgical tricks, which means either Ruin or someone who was around while Inquisitors were being made, which either means Marsh, or an evil Inquisitor trained Kandra. Ooooh, that'd be scary. But in that case, why wait 300 years? Who knows. We'll find out in a day or so!

Shadows of Self New BYU Line Rules
Zas678 replied to firstRainbowRose's topic in Events and Signings
I don't know. I wasn't there for Words of Radiants, it could be different than I'm remembering. EDIT- Though I bet it would be a lot easier if you preordered Elantris from BYU- that would make it a lot easier to get in if they are being picky. -

Yes, of course you can go to the midnight release, but I think that you'd have to wait in line (possibly at the back? I'm not sure) if you want a book signed. But as far as I know, you're welcome to be there and listen to Brandon, and meet sharders, and all that jazz. And like Brandon says, if you are going to a signing at a place, it's a good idea to get a book from there to show some appreciation for them doing this for Brandon. -

Yes, and here it is! -
Don't worry! If you come to the release, you still should get it. Also we're here! With pizza!
-
So we're going to start this at 7:30 since it seems most people will be a little late. We'll meet at the JFSB lobby. And I've got a little gift for everyone who comes!
-
That's okay. We'll see you at the Shadows signing then!
-
Me! and slowswift and lyssie will be there (us and little wilson are the standard group), and anyone else who wishes to come is welcome! I'll also be bringing my sister (a different one this time, though the other might also come). Also, I can get pizza again, but I'll be a little late (like 7:15).

Isaac does maps (Mistborn, Warbreaker, Stormlight Archive) and icons (like the Allomantic and Feruchemical tables, the chapter headings, and the Alethi language I think), and pretty much anything Nazh does (maps, diagrams, etc) Ben does illustrations (Rithmatist, Shallan's drawings, the Mistborn Adventure Game) and some maps (Rithmatist). They're kind of interesting stories to both of them. If I remember right, Brandon saw Isaac sketching when he went to a store, and asked him if he wanted to help make maps for his books, and Isaac did, and now he's still doing so! Ben was actually a fan artist on TWG, and posted some of the classic fan art of Mistborn (such as this:) And Brandon was so impressed that he decided to ask if he also wanted to help with illustrations. For more specifics, it usually says in the front of each book who helps with what illustrations in what ways.

For anyone coming to the BYU signing, if you pre-order before the 1st of October, you get 25% (About $6) off. So make a preorder to save some money.

Noooo! Slowswift, you will be missed. And yes, people do camp out for a week. It'll only be about a dozen people or so that are there long before hand, but they mostly do it to get a low number. Brandon signs and numbers the first 1000 books that are released, and 500 are sold at Sam Weller's (which you can order by phone or online? I think?), and 500 are sold at the Bookstore. I don't think the bookstore's ever sold out, but I haven't been there the past few years. You have to stay in line nearly constantly in order to save your spot- you can leave for an hour or two, but then you have to come back or your spot is forfeit. The Bookstore will give everyone who's in line on Monday morning at like 8:00 a ticket saving their spot in line. People will go off and do things, and then come back for the release. So Brandon will come early to the release (like at 7:00 or something), and will sign & number the first 500 books. Then, at like 11:00, the bookstore will let people in and they'll have some contests (costume contest, some mini games, raffles, etc). Brandon will also do a Q&A. Starting at midnight, the bookstore begins to sell the books, and those who are happy go home, but if you want it personalized by Brandon and want to meet him, you can get into a second line to do so. They'll still be minigames and such going on.

I'll go ahead and get started on the transcription since I got time. Or rather, tasks that I want to procrastinate.
-
Hey! It'll just be a realistic in-book and real-life time difference! Brandon was thinking of there being a 10ish year difference between the two books
-
So we had a great time, we played Cosmere against Humanity, (which was a blast), ate pizza, and rather enjoyed ourselves! The next meeting is going to be September 15th, a tuesday, at 7:00. Then we probably won't do anything for Shadows of Self- we'll just have fun with the people waiting in line!
-
7:00 in the JFSB at BYU. Go ahead and go to the lobby (there's some tables behind the big spiraly staircase), and we'll then migrate to somewhere else. Lyssie, I might be there early, but I really need a shower first. I'll do it quick so I can come help though.
-
Sure. I'll wait down in the lobby of the JFSB for a bit in case anyone new shows up, but let's do it up there. Thankfully, I'm pretty sure EFY is over now because this week's education week.
