  1. Err, is it possible that he simply gave you a short story name (First of the Sun) and its planet (Threnody)? We previously were told Threnody for both Shadows for Silence and A Silence Divine and were able to determine that one of them was probably an error on his part (check the very early WoR signing threads for some confusion amongst us) and we also know that he has stopped referring to the story as A Silence Divine. So maybe it's First of the Sun now.
  2. Some quick notes: Kal apparently felt the Thrill as a kid (or rather: wasn't immune to it while fighting the other kid with a stick). Provided Adhesion as a Surge, the knowledge that Windrunner squires have something extra, and the emphasis the story has on Spiritual bonds, I figure there is a decent chance Dalinar will A) be able to make every soldier that believes in his ideal (a stirring book 5 or book 10 speech) into lesser squires or have a super squire like Adolin. But I don't see why Renarin is off the table.
  3. I thought Eredor was Adolin, hence the references to "his son" Fighting.
  4. Well, the process just brings a mandatory hazing: you die. Your heart stops beating, and you become reliant on Investiture to sustain you. The Elantrian process seems like a streamlined and automatic version of the Returning process (when the city is working, that is).
  5. I think it important to remember that Shallan really isn't "Shadesmar-observant" yet. Because there's less sense of location and distance, it's very possible the flame did become a bead, and she just didn't see where the bead "spawned". Now that it's an object and not a consciousness, it abides by different rules and it should be in a different spot. It's incredibly likely that it takes someone who has developed a sense of these things to keep track of what the flame turned into -- and where it went. It also seems to me like different orders either perceive shadesmar differently or perceive different parts of it. I'm assuming Elsecallers see the full picture while Lightweavers and <other Transportation order> see it but don't fully grasp it, while other orders have a more limited view. This whole paragraph hinges on the idea that what Kaladin saw in the chasms before his first true bout of flying was a glimpse of Shadesmar.
  6. It's the wildest of conjectures, but it occurs to me that the divine Breath of a Returned enters a normal, dead body and transforms it into something with a subjective physical presence (all new looks). If Vasher could Command his Breath to "Move my conciousness out of my body" then he could traverse Shadesmar and animate the first Rosharan body he finds and transform it into his own. Maybe even inherit the sort of memories an amnesiac has (namely, language) from the body.... I need to stop posting my more outlandish notions off-topic of other threads
  7. Ostensibly, you have the contents memorized if you're getting it tattooed, so you put it on your back for the benefit of the ignorant masses. I'm obviously far too minimalist in style since it would be far smaller than a full table, but I like the idea of just the symbol for the KR order you identify with most.
  8. While other metals are a key to accessing Preservation's power, Atium is actually Mistborn spoilers which seems very much in line with Stormlight. Essentially, I'm guessing it's easier to use Stormlight in lieu of Atium than the other metals.
  9. While Scadrial and Roshar have the coolest magic, I think Nalthis is the best place to live IF you have money, or a means to make money. Not worrying about disease is pretty awesome, and I believe each breath improves your lifespan, so success buys you more time to succeed (monetarily, which becomes immortally). Seems to me that pretty much any worldhopper would have some schtick to translate into good income, but if Elsecallers are the only reliable way to worldhop... I'm screwed. I'm far more likely to get an honorspren. If I'm hopping there from Earth with all my current knowledge... Then I'm reasonably sure I could figure out electricity from scratch, but that would mean learning a new language to communicate my findings. Maybe being from MaiPon would be a safer bet...
  10. I really don't like judging this on the basis of capitalization. "Sliver" means nothing to the story of the stormlight archives, so being capitalized wouldn't make sense. It would call undue attention to a concept that will never get explained. Essentially, whether or not it's an Easter egg for us, it would be little more than a typo in the scope of SA. Even if you don't agree with my first point, consider: this is Dalinar's perspective. Honor is Almighty, and Dalinar would associate that with capital H "he" (yes, he can't read, but the veneration is there). By contrast, "sliver" means nothing outstanding to him, so he would only hear the normal use of it. Perhaps it would've been capitalized if we were reading from the Stormfather's POV.
  11. I can see how it makes sense to read that procedurally, but I took that as being at the exact same time. It would seem almost like forming it in Tyn's body, but was in fact still being summoned. Also, I'm kinda hoping Knights Radiant cannot throw their sprenblades. I'd like that to be something completely unique to dead spren.
  12. Your title MisSyl Your incredible handle That's 3 reasons for an upvote, and I only have 1 to give (though that last reason will get caught in a future post where you point out nothing noteworthy and wonder where the upvote came from). This is an interesting line of thought. I hope a trained KR can't kill people with their spren/brain. Maybe something as simple as the innate spark of investiture all intelligent life has is enough to block the coalesced-to-physical process (though obviously not the cut-through-your-soul-once-physical part). But this still doesn't block the actual act of throwing your spren. Or telling your spren "materialize into a block with spikes about 1' above that guy's head."
  13. Incorrect. It is an awesome pun. 10/10. Would pun again. Also: Herdazians have stoney fingernails or something. Aimian heritage?
  14. I'm still trying to figure out how Hoid and Vasher are hiding their aura. That seems more impressive than getting a lot of Breath.
  15. Are you a(n) <Lightweaver/Elsecaller>? Because I think you just soulcast my knees into pudding. You must be at least the Fifth Heightening because the world seems brighter around you. Are you a Kandra? Surely real people couldn't be this beautiful.
  16. I thought we had WoB confirmation that Hemalurgy requires intent, which was supplied by Ruin during the original trilogy. So, by definition, hemalurgy cannot happen accidentally. Theoryland search failed me.
  17. Small correction: he says this to young Shallan; not Jasnah.
  18. Useful, but perpetuates a dangerous cycle... For example, a gem of WoB left by the wayside and never upvoted because no one read it because... it wasn't upvoted.
  19. Lift almost certainly has 4 powers. When she "climbs" Windle, the observer (who doesn't see him) simply sees her climbing a wall without handholds. I took this as a Friction surge, and it simply manifests to her as a function of her Spren. Likewise, Pattern mimics voices but Shallan should be capable of this on her own (as Pattern himself tells her).
  20. I had this thing typed up where I was bewildered by how you came to that conclusion, and then realized you said impossible, not possible. Reading helps a lot. Who knew? -- So there's a term called Voidbinding already. Seems to me like Odiumspren would be all-too-eager to take a destructive form. Worth small mention: Since the spren are there, and should technically be considered splinters -- it's now their choice whether or not to bind and not Odium's. This makes me wonder if Odium would have to hunt and destroy his own splinters in order to uproot himself from the planet. This would definitely match some thoughts about why it's a huge setback to get invested in a system.
  21. -The new batch of Knights Radiant are not repulsed by shardplate. -The shardplate helmet sucks Kaladin's stormlight from him. This latter point is something I haven't seen discussed at all, and I feel it's important. Together, these 2 points indicate to me that it is not just the bonded spren taking on the form of lots of armor pieces as well as a weapon. They really do seem closer to Fabrials than shardblades. Just a level of magnitude greater than the fabrials we've seen. I'm guessing it's something to do with fabrials made out of willing spren as opposed to captive (so their cognitive input is valued higher, and thus their sliver nature manifests), and I'm kinda hoping they get Bondsmithed together, personally.
  22. My wife is incapable of raising only a single eyebrow. Ask Brandon to include someone awkwardly bulging one eye while squinting the other.
  23. Monotony. As you live, your innate Investiture continues to grow, becoming much like a divine Breath, sans life-extension. Disturbances you cause to Shadesmar drain a proportionate amount of your Investiture. In essence, enacting change inhibits your growth. The very act of eating weakens you on a trivial level, while firing someone has a noticeable effect, and starting a war is essentially self-sacrifice. Old and decrepit monks harbor Elantrian-like power, but never use it.
  24. I really like this idea. It could be that you are essentially stapling another object's spiritual aspect onto whatever you want awakened. But then you have to explain Lifeless, who burn their own color and yet seem quite cognitive, as well as apparently still possessing a spiritweb.
  25. I'm in the "Forgery can't grant other Investitures" camp, so that colors my response. But I think Hoodie is right. A spike could repair the damaged personality of a spike donor - and the physical damage which would explain their survival while we're at it! - but it wouldn't restore the stolen attribute without some way to replace that... Investiture with a new... Source. Huh. I think I just convinced myself the Dor could do exactly that.
