Guys, please cut down on the WoR chatter in the general Stormlight Archives forum. I haven't done the Steelhunt and I'm kinda hoping to avoid reading WoR material until March.

Having a double ended sword isn't even close to copyright infringement. Laser double sword, on the other hand... @Chuck Norris: I think you also defeated your own post. The idea is exactly as you say at the end: could a single shardblade be created to manifest in 2 pieces?

I'm liking the idea of a character who fights like the Asian-themed "flying sword" mages. To add to the crazy, you could tie your wand to some twine while connected to a small sword or dagger. Swing the rope around and it'll feel like you have a sword tied to the end, while creating a weapon with tremendous and unpredictable striking range. Edit: this would be helped tremendously by something like feruchemic Tin. Some method of binocular vision that really puts you in the action.

/nothelping I really want to get into a campaign with you guys, or anyone willing. I just don't like the system. I'm happy to support Crafty and would do so again, but I really hate character creation and prefer FATE as a "high rp" system (though it would need a character creation overhaul as well). Sorry to fuel the derail, just didn't seem worth the thread.

Kaladin and Kalad the Usurper (Warbreaker)

I thought twok, aol, and wb were all roughly at the same time (about 300 years after mistborn).- 17 replies

Feruchemical immunity to emotional manipulation?
Pechvarry replied to Gamma Fiend's topic in Mistborn
I find myself hoping electrum lets you override emotional tampering because I'm struggling to make it cool I'm my brain. In related news, it's rather absurd that aluminum/duralumin doesn't get tested for feruchemy in the original trilogy, just because sazed was too busy moping. How embarrassing if Feruchemical duralumin let you store/tap gods of entropy and destruction (aka the Jafar ending). -
I wanted to highlight this concept. Personally, I feel this is true of tapping an allomantic charge in a metalmind. I.e. Miles should be able to tap any stored gold shadows (that would be weird btw) in a goldmind. The problem is, I'm not convinced he would possess the ability to store them in the first place.

What would this mean about the supposed "anti-Adonalsium" then? Another clear-lens nuke that's already built? One that was built during Adonalsium's time?

Well Darnam, you have me convinced. I would really like to see a way to awaken your "paired" metal. So many of them feel incomplete, while full on mistborn is just overkill. Tin/pewter, iron/steel, cadmium/bendalloy timelords, chromium/nicrosil wreaking havoc, aluminum/duralumin reaching ironic heights of uselessness...
-
I don't think he's implying "there's realmatics except when there's not." But remember: the magic systems are more rigidly defined than realmatics allows. The same power that can move a planet is also responsible for moving metal objects. But a coinshot can't move rocks like big Harmony can, because his power is more narrowly defined. Hence, while Chromium allomancy must necessarily adhere to the limitations of realmatics, it will have more restrictions.

I think Peter intends to beat us around this bush until one of us asks Brandon again.
-
Huh. I took the events as: Brandon: no Hoid Peter: you sure? What about this thing? Brandon: oh. I forgot that thing. Ergo, Hoid probably is there.
-
Still useful. Beggar Shai with Allomantic gold spike could use "had I not used this stamp" shadows as a sort of beacon, maintaining skills and disguise without losing herself or her goal. Net effect of being able to withstand more traumatic stamps longer.

Lol. I get to do this. I'm so excited. See here for why that may not be true. Alternatively, scroll up (it's even a response to you!)

Gold/copper twinborns. Not sure which book to read? Choose one, read and store, burn gold and find the version of you that chose the other book. Find the version of you that didn't dump all the memories into a coppermind while you're at it. EDIT: this post was in response to the last line of Aether's post. Sorry for the apparent off-topic-ness.

I was thinking perhaps any quantity of aluminum piercing the body would disrupt your ability to channel investiture. The problem becomes: why not use it on Miles? And I think the only reasonable answer would be that he would lose the ability to burn gold, but not tap it (his own power, not Harmony).
-
Wow. Storing/tapping instincts is a way cooler ability than manic depressive determination. That would be really cool, but I'm now sad it's not the effect of one of the main 16.

In other stories, Hoid is a catalyst. He gently shoves the story along. In SSFH,I can only think of one action that could fit the bill, and it's decidedly un-Hoidly This leads to a pretty basic conclusion: this planet is so unimportant, so forgotten, it provides nothing for Hoid to further his own goals. Or perhaps, with nothing left of deific power, there's simply nothing for him to push on to save them. But who knows? Maybe all the evil in the world is thwarted of screen

So in other words... Hoid?

Writing and Spren and magic systems *Mistborn spoilers*
Pechvarry replied to name_here's topic in Cosmere Discussion
He means plot device. Chekhov's gun means (iirc) if the story calls attention to a gun, that gun will end up playing a crucial role in the plot. Brandon always keeps a very well-stocked Chekhov's Armory. I forget the term for red herrings made to look like Chekhov's guns. Shivertongue: you are forgetting something important: life sense. Much of Brandon's magic and culture has some basis in the real world. Like that feeling you're being watched, or the culturally significant reason to put a big, garish red seal on a beautiful vase. An actual reason to burn prayers is 100% his cup of tea. Incidentally, I really like "Spren commands via definition" idea. -
I think this logic is actually quite sound. I'm sure, if true, it's a radically different story than "this place had a TLR too." But I could see someone using a portion of some sort of dying power to try to create a paradise without the mature, expanded mind of a proper shard. Note, this is how I feel about the shades. On the other hand, I believe The Evil to be something completely different and terrifying. Probably the Anti-nalsium or Odium, or something completely different -- but not something that was part of this world's past. Interesting question. I don't believe shades have an appetite, so even if Investiture isn't what pushes them away, it probably wouldn't draw them to you either. But what about withering? Would you become more resistant? Would it be easier to wither because you're bursting with investiture (assuming I'm right and it uses your innate investiture to fuel the creation of a shade)? Would you end up fueling a shade before even touching your own investiture? A moot point, because you'd be dead and your leftover Investiture wasted, I suppose. Maybe you could bestow a Breath to a shade for some really wild results. --- Something else I've been wondering: Brandon has said there are entities that almost completely lack physical aspects. How close is a shade to a Cognitive lifeless? Ingrained with commands and powered indefinitely by Investiture. Not truly thinking, but obviously possessing a mind of sorts.

I... feel compelled to point out the inconsistency introduced by having the fanbase refer to the same thing in 2 different ways, and further confusing a KR order with a group of meteorologists.

There's an ominous figure in the beginning who I believe to be a red herring, because there's ALWAYS an ominous, hooded figure in every fantasy inn. There's also a mid-day drunk stumbling out of the inn at the end. I had intended to make a thread about this but got distracted. Anyone want the honors (I'm busy at work)?
-
I believe Stoneward is the current term, which gets confused with Stormwardens (the non-KR order). Speaking of, Taln seems like our Stoneward. Don't need 2 of them.
-
Rysn finds shardblade on Galgkege. We should probably look at cosmere maps for places with no current plot significance (in-universe words that our wiki could miss). I really don't expect an encoded sentence. I expect, if anything, scrambled words that are prime examples of what Hoid is talking about.
