  1. Heyyyy getting this thread back on topic: In addition to the amazing implications storing Investiture could have for the Cosmere, any Nicrosil ferring that's also a misting would *probably* behave similarly to duralumin or Compounding. E.g. Steelpusher/Soulbearer could store their ability to Push into a nicrosil metalmind, and then later recall it to augment a shot for that One Shot That Counts (Think anti-aircraft). My logic is the Elend-as-Mistborn principle: some people just have much stronger force to their pushes. Nicrosil storage would provide this in spades. Another interesting take on the duralumin ninjas: paired with bendalloy, you could be quite the battlefield trickster. Perhaps you could make a scene (typically, killing people does the trick). When people draw a bead on you, you put up a bubble and move a few feet to the side. Then you start filling your metalmind as much as possible as you drop your field. Potentially, everyone sees that you disappeared and - rather than register that you're a few feet to the left - just completely forgets about you 'til you strike again... That's pretty Ninja IMO.
  2. Wax' steel bubble really proves one thing: you can push against metal objects that are not yet there (i.e. where they WILL be). It also shows that you can exclude things while maintaining this predictive force. This pretty much explains the Pushing concerns of this thread. You can push on your own bullets because you know where it's coming from and where it's going. You just need to max push on where that single thread will be as you pull the trigger (and exclude all other metal that happens to be there). Side note: you could really screw up your own trajectory doing this. Wax would need a lot of practice and would perhaps have to hunch to a specific angle before shooting to keep his center of gravity in line with the shot. Push (the character) needs to be aware the bullets are coming. If you're facing down 6 gunman, you just start pushing towards them when they're about to fire. As the lines shoot out of their guns, they encounter a persistent pushing force which stops or repels them.
  3. So Hemalurgy continues to baffle me. We know that what can be stolen is based on metal, and we know location is important. But do we know how location is important? This Koloss-creation quote makes me feel like there are multiple ways to imbue someone with physical strength, for example. Probably, the more efficient the gain, the more it must distort the Spiritweb. So you could spike an ear and get some Seeker power, or you could spike the base of the skull and get a bit MORE Seeker power in addition to being ravenously insane. If any of what I said is feasible, then Sazed wouldn't be creating zombie-followers just by giving them a spike or 2.
  4. I thought it'd be fun to post ideas people have for what could be done with guns and the assorted known abilities, given our now-complete Allomancy/Feruchemy Ars Arcanum, courtesy of Allow of Law. There shouldn't be any Alloy of Law spoilers, though I'll assume knowledge of its Ars Arcanum and the term Compounding. That said, I would love to see a Zinc Ferring (Mental Speed). We like to think about how good they'd be at math (and certainly, Zinc Compounders would probably be all of Scadrial's Teslas and Einsteins), but I can imagine them being exceedingly handy in a gun fight. Perfect accuracy and multitasking (aiming 2 guns independently of each other) and incredible abilities to predict an opponent. Probably boring to write from said character's POV, though, but would be cool as a close ally or recurring villain. If a Compounder, he wouldn't need to spend large amounts of time playing the fool (filling his metalminds). I don't remember enough about Electrum in the Mistborn Trilogy, but I can imagine it being exceedingly useful in a gunfight to keep yourself where bullets are not. I also think an Iron Misting/Steel Ferring (Pull and Store Speed) could be hilarious -- pulling metal objects in ridiculous arcs as you zoom around the battlefield, dragging bullets shot at you into people 50 feet away from where you were originally standing. Have any other fun combos you'd like to see pop up? Fire away!
  5. Hi folks. I used to hang around TWG and I've been reading AoL, which means it's time to get back into Sandersonian forums. So thanks for having these wonderful forums! Reading the Ars Arcanum on this topic made me think about something I considered long ago: Hemalurgy and Breath. If I spike someone and myself, can I steal their breath? I have a better one. Let's make a few baseless assumptions: a: an Allomancer can obtain and use breath b: Gunther, over there, is a Pewterarm. The following then occurs: 1)Gunther collects breaths and awakens a scarecrow. -does this awakened scarecrow possess the ability to burn pewter? He lacks the physical requirements, certainly, but that's the same scenario as Gunther himself being out of Pewter. Just because he lacks the means to burn pewter doesn't mean he lacks the capacity. 2) Gunther, being a man learned in the Spiritweb of straw people, spikes the scarecrow. Does he steal its investiture? Has Gunther created a Pewterarm spike, using Breath to pay the cost in life and blood? Would he need to use some blood as part of the awakening process, similar to Vasher's use of his own hair? If this can be pulled off, you have something quite fascinating. using the warm and friendly Awakening, as well as the twisted and disturbing Hemalurgy, you come out with a way to freely hand out any magic to anyone. You just... have to survive the implant. How's that for "interest to the Cosmere"? --- I don't really expect anyone to respond to this with a solid "yes, you are completely 100% correct." But feel free to point out where Brandon's said things that would patently foil this concept. More importantly: food for thought. Enjoy.
