  1. I'm just thinking of this now, but it does seem from our knowledge of Hemalurgy and other magic systems that the effect granted by a type of magic (in this case, Bleeder's spike) doesn't necessarily have any connection to the Intent of the Shard. A spike made of Trellium could be granting invisibility from Harmony not because it's of Autonomy, but simply because it's a hack, a not-inherent use of Hemalurgy in the first place (Sazed can detect Hemalurgic spikes, and control the spiked individuals depending on the number of spikes, because he holds the Shard whose Investiture created Hemalurgy, but if another Shard's metal is used for Hemalurgy, it could inherently not give him the same access). Bleeder's actions could also just as easily be of Odium, or of Dominion or Devotion, twisted into something awful, but I suspect her actions had little to do with a Shard's Intent either. She's a tool, manipulated into fighting Harmony, but an insane one.
  2. In the Bible, God has Dominion over the earth, which He then gives to man as well. Basically, it's considered to be both rule and responsibility; you tend and develop and also rule over. Now, part of that might be too close to Cultivation, but the concept I think is sound when it comes to applying it to the Shard of Dominion. It's about benevolent rule and care.
  3. I know it's come up, but I don't know if I've seen a thread specifically talking about it. There's definitely a lot of influences, and I've argued some that haven't been confirmed too, like the definition for Dominion (which a lot of people regard negatively, even if they don't treat it as exactly evil).
  4. Yeah, but it's possible the crem mixing with different things as it hardens could do that. Crem itself is a brownish color I think I remember, so the continent is almost certainly not gray like I was originally thinking, at least.
  5. I think perhaps what @The Ninja Yodeler was suggesting is that the fact that it's red is due to Sazed choosing to depict it that way, not anything inherent about that force itself. That would seem to reduce the chances that we'd find a connection behind the red haze and other red things representing Shards (correct me if I'm wrong, Ninja).
  6. That's a very interesting thought on a passage I didn't give any real thought to. Good catch, and I think that might have been simply intentionally vague, but without the benefit of knowing what Adolin would later do, it wouldn't be at all apparent that he was deciding to kill Sadeas if he had the chance.
  7. I don't remember, are the stones described as gray specifically in the text anywhere, or with any other colors? There are tons of potential colors for rocks, and while I also just pictured it all as dull gray, that's probably not really accurate. For all we know, most of Roshar could look more like this:
  8. I believe the Shadows in SfSiFoH (that's a long acronym) have red eyes when they become enraged, too, correct? We don't know if there's a connection to Odium there, but since Threnody doesn't have a Shard, it doesn't seem particularly likely to me. I think the red eyes could come from a number of possible sources.
  9. Haha, that's right, I remember that one now. Only because of that last part.
  10. @harambe, Hemalurgy can be used to steal abilities from any magic system. What we don't know is what type of spikes would be needed to steal each ability, or where the bind points would be. That doesn't require the other Shards to have anything to do with it; Hemalurgy's magic system is entirely based on the fact that it steals portions of other people's spiritwebs (or souls). You simply steal the part that lets them access the particular form of magic they can use, and then that gets "stapled" onto the spiritweb of the person who receives the spike. Presumably, then, you could spike a Selian through an Elantrian, and that person would gain the Elantrian magics, but I don't know if there would be different portions, or if it would simply make them an Elantrian with everything that goes along with that. Roshar's Nahel Bond to a Spren could maybe be stolen, though we're not sure, but in that case, it would almost certainly be useless because the spiked person wouldn't be maintaining the Oaths. Again, that hasn't been confirmed, though.
  11. Those would be very hard to compare with, considering he doesn't use a bow. For similar capabilities, we'd have to think of people like Deadshot, who I suspect would be better by a decent margin, or an old west gunslinger like Clint Eastwood's "The Man with No Name", who I don't know how he'd compare with.
  12. I think we have confirmation that he is, and that his steel bubble is something he can do because he's a savant. Here it is, from the annotations:
  13. @1stBondsmith, the original theory here and yours would appear to be mostly debunked by this WoB: http://www.theoryland.com/intvmain.php?i=1088#4 I guess that doesn't entirely rule on the spren concept, but I'd say it makes it very unlikely.
  14. I posited the same thing here: Needless to say, I agree, but a lot of the community didn't or found potential pitfalls with the theory. We might find out more when the sequel to Elantris is released. EDIT: We actually know that Domi doesn't relate to Dominion; it's based on Aon Omi, which means Love (which is the original name Brandon had in mind for Devotion). That actually makes the Dakhor/Devotion link more interesting in my opinion, since their twisted bones would literally be a twisted version of Devotion.
  15. I wouldn't be surprised, but I don't think I've seen it brought up. Good thinking!
  16. I think autocorrect got you on
  17. Fair point, but that means Vasher or Shashara would have had some way to access the Investiture or magic system of another Shard. It's certainly possible, of course, and we know Vasher travelled to Roshar at least, but I can't see any particular way in which that would make sense (Ruin's Investiture would make the most sense of those we know, but unless Nightblood was a Hemalurgic spike, which I think has been asked, I don't see any other way Ruin's Investiture could have been involved).
  18. Not so wild theorizing, actually, Brandon confirmed both that Vasher has seen a dead Shardblade and that Nightblood is a sort of robot Spren, an attempt to replicate a Shardblade. That is an interesting concept to think that another Shard could have been involved, but I'd be surprised myself.
  19. Heh, yeah, it's my version of Tolkien's initials. JAW overlaid on each other.
  20. The usual: ask me any question about myself or that you think is relevant, and I'll answer if I can!
  21. That's not going to be confusing at all. Edit: At least @STINK hasn't signed up for this game.
  22. Sign me up as Quintus, recently cured of a very annoying lisp. A relative nobody who arrived in town a few months earlier and has offered to do various odd jobs, usually fairly competently, but never really picked up a trade specifically.
  23. I know it's been said that Sean Bean should/shouldn't play Marsh. But why not Kelsier? He looks really perfect smiling because you know it's not entirely real, and the hair is right. Okay, no, I just think it'd be kinda funny when he gets the script and sees another death scene.
  24. Word of Brandon. It refers to information Brandon has told us in interviews, book signings, Twitter or Reddit posts, etc.
  25. There's already a few threads I think. Here's one (I feel like there were more, but I could only find this and the Steeheart one) Mistborn:
