[BoM spoilers ahead!] Hoid's objective in BoM
Jondesu replied to Sallin Zeras's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I think there are two basic concepts Brandon may go with (though he's far more creative than I, so he might have an even better idea): 1. As you said, Stormlight 5 ends in tragedy, Odium reigns, and the second set of books is where Roshar will be rebuilt and freed from Odium (I do anticipate a victorious ending, though probably not entirely happy, for the entire series). 2. Like in Mistborn, Stormlight 5 ends in a seeming victory but a renewed or greater/alternate danger still awaits. That could be Odium being freed and leaving, only to find that something happens as a result, or Odium could still be the big bad, or another option. I've been expecting option 2 personally, but of course, Brandon may not want to reuse that since this is his other major series and he already did that. -
That's a hilarious theory, and perhaps not all that far-fetched. I haven't even read Rothfuss' books (though they're on my list), so I'm not familiar with the character, but I think that's an awesome idea.

To be fair, I think that scheming is probably not a distinct Shardic trait, and that the schemes we see from Autonomy are perhaps more likely due to Bavadin's personality from the clues Brandon has given us.

Mid-Range Game 19: Return to Urithiru
Jondesu replied to little wilson's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Wow, that was crazy. Guess I can't complain about a win, but it doesn't feel like as much of a win when I didn't get to do much or kill a bunch of people. For the record, I was a Lightweaver, so Sart, I think you got a PM intended for Seonid, and Joe, you were attacked instead of Arinian (who apparently was attacked twice) because of me.- 329 replies

When I played Resistance, we did that once and quickly discovered it wasn't a great idea. I don't know if it'd be necessary to have a rule about that, but it doesn't necessarily work out well for the villagers.

I was considering posting a topic about this, but while this one's a little old, I figured it'd do to avoid clutter. I have found that if I log in on my computer and my phone, they'll stay logged in very reliably. If I log in on my tablet as well, though, everything stops staying logged in. Is there a hard limit of 2 devices logged in simultaneously, or is that maybe a clue to what's been going on for others?

I always read that passage not as Hoid suggesting anything significant about the name Adolnasium, but about what would happen if they tried to put it/him back together. Even if you succeed in rejoining the Shards, you won't get the same thing you started with (Adolnasium).

Anniversary Game 3: The Curse of the Koloss
Jondesu replied to Metacognition's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Remart stomped his peg leg loudly. "Good man, you can swap whatever you like, as long as you leave me something I can eat in trade!" He followed up his declaration with a long swig of his ale and a loud belch.- 1403 replies

The whole group playing could essentially be a Reckoner cell, then. Slightly unrealistic considering the sizes in the books, but still very interesting.

Mid-Range Game 19: Return to Urithiru
Jondesu replied to little wilson's topic in Sanderson Elimination
@Silverblade5, I'm thinking I want to go for the Bondsmith win for this cycle, and if it gets screwed up, we'll have brought the numbers closer together for the two teams. Thusly, Drake. Edit: this would be a somewhat unsatisfactory ending to the game, honestly, but would clear it up before the AG starts on Monday, so I'm okay with that.- 329 replies

Mid-Range Game 19: Return to Urithiru
Jondesu replied to little wilson's topic in Sanderson Elimination
That...is actually an idea I can understand. I became as active as I've been because of how well my first game went (though my subsequent games have been horrible for my characters so far), and I can see that being good to improve their experience. On the other hand, I don't want to lose yet another game just for that. If we can actually make this happen and it isn't sabotaged, I'm fine with that (as I have said), I'm just paranoid and cynical about the chances of it working out. Took a long nap and can't wake up, so RP will come later.- 329 replies

Mid-Range Game 19: Return to Urithiru

Yeah, we can even cast different votes at points, we just have to end up on the same person at the end of the cycle. I'm not ready to vote yet either.- 329 replies

Mid-Range Game 19: Return to Urithiru
Jondesu replied to little wilson's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Haven't decided yet. :-P Silverblade, any initial preference? If the numbers are actually correct, that Bondsmith win could happen this cycle, but I'm still cautious. I hate that all the alignments are so open, too. I've been exposed as a Son of Honor without any chance to decide if I or my teammates wanted to be open about that, and other people seem to be deciding how I should play. I'm tempted to just screw it all up to make the game last longer.- 329 replies

I have been getting the impression that each land with it's own flavor of magic (Arelon, Fjordell, MaiPon, JinDo) has a Splinter of Devotion/Dominion, or some combination depending on how the Dor actually works, and that those Splinters are becoming self-aware (as Splinters do). The earthquake was probably either the Splinter doing something it didn't intend, or an effect of it bonding with that portion of the world. Then again, I think we've been told the splintering of D&D was a good bit earlier, but I'm not sure on that. And no worries about the extra thread, someone'll take care of it.

The machine seemed to mess up the Aviar abilities, so I assumed that was just an erroneous prediction like had happened earlier in the story.

Mid-Range Game 19: Return to Urithiru
Jondesu replied to little wilson's topic in Sanderson Elimination
I don't think we have any way to know that unless they roleclaimed to someone. So far no one has stated in the thread a name, though I feel like someone said they knew who the Bondsmith was.- 329 replies

I didn't get the impression the machine harmed the people. I think they were worried the Ones Above would use the excuse of them gaining that knowledge to then justify basically taking over their world, and then the Aviar, Patji, their way of life and self-governance, would all be exploited. Maybe the effects of the machine would have basically driven the creatures on Patji mad, since we saw they were definitely affected.

The Good News Thread: I'm So Excited! And I Just Can't Hide It!

Nicely done! Now, when you're done, sell them again (I always used half.com) and get back a good portion of that $75, too. :-)
