Okay, so I’ve circled back to Warbreaker in my course through the Cosmere, and it struck me that I never really processed why Nightblood causes the reaction he does from people who hold him. The revulsion and nausea from those who are good I can understand. But why do those deemed “evil” (or is it those with this reaction who are then deemed evil by Nightblood?) kill themselves? We find people impaling themselves on the sword, sheath and all. I could understand them wanting to use him and getting consumed. I don’t understand them wanting to kill themselves…

This seems to be the whole of the references in the book to that line: And then just a few lines later: It sounds like he’s accepting the terms, with modifications to the results only.
-
Who? I didn’t see anyone suspicious. Definitely not that totally nondescript man walking in the hallway.
-
Actually, prior to RoW, he didn’t. That’s why he was avoiding being discovered by Odium in the previous books. The contract with Odium included a clause making him one of Honor’s representatives, which made him then untouchable to at least Odium. The other Shards we’re not sure about, though possibly they would also view him as protected, depending on the specifics of the agreement they set up in the first place.
-
We’ve also been told that that Shard’s Intent is only tangentially related to that, so it’s not a Survival Shard. More likely something mostly unrelated but similar in concept to Preservation where it wants to survive, but not as it’s primary Intent.

I think that’s the commonly accepted theory. I don’t think Brandon has confirmed it yet, but I’d be surprised if that isn’t the case.

I just had that thought last night after I posted this! The singers predate the Shards, we’re pretty sure, so that makes sense.
-
I think there could be a lot of truth to that. We know that Odium didn’t stick around any one place before Roshar to avoid getting trapped. What if his fascination with the Surges and desire to use them to facilitate his battle against the other Shards led to him letting down his guard and letting himself get trapped because he was focused on this new weapon, one he managed to get them to use to destroy a planet (well, make uninhabitable). Doing that to Scadrial would have significantly weakened Preservation and Ruin, making them easier to Splinter. Presumably the same would apply to other Invested worlds. Most Shards seem to have Invested somewhere, so perhaps that was his true goal, and Honor merely caught him off guard. I somehow think Cultivation wasn’t completely on board with the Oathpact, either, and keeping Odium bound. She’d have preferred to let him go after other weaker Shards and leave her alone for a while probably.

So I searched the thread, and I don’t see a confirmation on the Durian. It says “a kill action” in the rules, which makes me lean towards not the lynch, but I could see it go either way. @Biplet, could you clarify if the Durian allows one to survive being lynched? -
Emphasis mine. I’m rereading Oathbringer, or really just parts of it, but this stood out to me. Who told the singers they couldn’t use the Surges? Honor? Cultivation? Odium appears to have come with the humans. And wouldn’t have wanted them to avoid that anyways. Just a curiosity more than anything.

Okay, so I found an apparent contradiction that I’m sure there’s a reason for, but I’m trying to sort it out. In Oathbringer, Kaladin lashes the gang including the spren to fly towards the perpendicularity and Dalinar: Yet, in Rhythm of War, we get the following passage: In the RoW passage, she’s in the Physical Realm, vs the OB scene in the Cognitive/Shadesmar. Are spren less Invested in the Cognitive? Does the Nahel Bond Invest them in order to bring them into the Physical Realm, all the time, rather than just when doing particular things with Stormlight? Basically, why can Syl be infused/Lashed in one case but not the other?

Yep:

I know it’s been a bit since ya’ll were posting this, but I can point out where Frost implies he was part of the Shattering: Emphasis added, letter compiled and truncated to leave out unimportant parts.

I’m thinking they don’t actually have a Knight. -

@attic_gremlin, care to share anything about this development? I’m tempted to say we should lynch you again next cycle if you survive the night, since if you’re Daruk we’ve been thinking that’s a Yiga role, but I’d like to hear from you on it. -

Is that how Vasher manipulates his Divine Breath, and/or how he got the little girl’s memories to change?!

I found the scene with Syl turning into Shallan! It’s subtle, very subtle… -

I have very little in the way of reads. I want to trust Ash despite their wariness of me (it’s ok, everyone ends up feeling that way about me it seems). Wiffle seems genuine this turn, as does attic. No one’s standing out. A postman, maybe the Elim, created a PM between me and Steel. We’ve barely talked because I don’t have a trust read on him, but I thought that was interesting. It’s mildly suspicious, but it’s not enough to make me vote on them. Could be an e!Postman trying to make people suspicious of each other, or a v!Postman getting people to talk. -
Pretty sure there’s a WoB that being bound on Braize (to a Shard, at least) is the same as being bound on Roshar or Ashyn. Odium was bound to the system, but bound to Braize is a mistaken idea we’ve had. His Fused were bound to Braize, but he himself was free to affect Roshar, just limited by Honor’s remnant and by Cultivation. Edit: here it is: https://wob.coppermind.net/events/445/#e14144

It doesn’t seem to look different to Lift, which tells me probably not. She could have been distracted by Szeth’s shadow, but she noticed Nightblood too, so I think she’d have picked up on it. Of course, the aluminum sheath might interfere, but we’re pretty sure Azure has one too.
-
I have to admit, I didn’t connect that when I was reading it, but it makes so much sense! I love this idea! I want to see Leshwi turned back into a singer Windrunner again. I do agree that she probably only has one Surge, just like the Fused do with their corrupted Surgebinding, but that’s not a problem since she’s so experienced with it.

What comes next? Speculation for next book and back 5.

Mistborn Era 3 may be written during that time period, but it’s set later I believe, and wouldn’t necessarily involve the Ghostbloods plot at all. Mistborn Era 2 is the one set between SA 5&6.
