I don't disagree with most of what everyone's been saying, but I did want to comment on this part. Nearly everyone Adolin cares about is nigh-invulnerable now, yes. That should be a huge source of relaxation for him, and I don't think his thoughts will be about his social position in that situation. He cares so much about protecting his family and those he cares about, so to have them nearly impossible to kill would just ease his mind a great deal. jW

It's unpalatable and unattractive from any angle. This thread is like a chull slave caravan.

The Cognitive Realm (Shadesmar) does exist in planetary space (or is it more accurate to say planetary space exists in the Cognitive Realm?), but it's "compressed", so it doesn't line up 1x1 with the amount of space it takes up in the Physical Realm. There's no minds there, and very little direct cognitive function directed at it exactly, so it takes up far less space than it would otherwise. That's why you can walk between planets in days/weeks, while taking even a spaceship at near light-speed would take a lot longer I presume. jW

Rock says that the waters up above are normal, but underneath is the water of the gods. I think the Shardpool (pools?) are under the water, but they do have an influence on the normal water on top. Having a Shardpool in the Purelake wouldn't mean the whole thing was a Shardpool, but it could have a Cultivating influence is that's Cultivation's Shardpool. jW

Glys also seems to be able to hide himself, probably even from other spren, but it does seem so far that some spren can hide from other people and/or other spren most likely, while others may not be able to. jW

Gleamed just means it's shining in the sun, not glowing of it's own accord. jW

From the rules: This is a scenario where a necro seems perfectly acceptable based on that. New information in a theory thread, right? (Though VirtuousTraveller's post admittedly didn't contain that new information.) jW

Put your spoiler content inside tags like this: [ spoiler ] content [/ spoiler ] (remove the spaces before and after the brackets). Definitely required outside of those spoiler boards, for that type of information. jW

I find it very interesting that Bands of Mourning came out the day after this topic was posted, and Definitely read it if you haven't yet (in case I even needed to say that). jW

I think it's assumed that at least one Shardholder may be a dragon, or at the very least there were some present or nearby at the time. I wonder what Brandon's dragons will be like (since we've only seen a letter presumably written by one, nothing more). jW

Ah, that does make sense. It's possible, but I'd still like to think of Threnody/Sorrow being a Shard still together so we can see some magic from him/her/it. :-) Either way, though, would be very cool to see that confirmed in a future book or through a WoB. jW

Bahahaha, that is a hilarious (and crude) mental image. I do wonder if any of the Shardholders are/were parents, that's something I hadn't even thought about before. I don't know if they would have had to be parents before they took up their Shard (and in that case their children are long dead if not for one of the magic systems that allows for nigh-infinite lifespans) or if it's possible for them to have children after becoming a Shardholder (which would raise a whole set of ethical and Realmatic questions). jW

If there is indeed a Threnody Shard (Sorrow), which could be really interesting, I'm actually going to guess the Shard and Shardholder left Threnody, or was never invested directly there but maybe in a nearby planet, rather than having been Splintered. While the shades remind me of the spren from Roshar, it doesn't strike me overall as a place where Splintered Shard power resides, with what seems to be overall low levels of investiture to me (the shades are the only thing we see that has a magical component, as far as we can tell, and they don't really do anything beyond hurt people if they come in contact, no other magical effects). jW

Official Star Wars Episode VII SPOILER Thread
Jondesu replied to Seonid's topic in Entertainment Discussion
I just saw an interesting theory on Rey and why she was left on Jakku (since I can't imagine Luke abandoning his daughter, if she is that, in that type of environment after growing up that way himself). It theorized that she was born at the Jedi Academy or around that time, so Ben grew up with her, his cousin, and saved her when the Knights of Ren slaughtered the rest of the Jedi (in the vision, it appears you can see a red, possibly unstable looking light saber stabbing through the chest of the Knight of Ren that's preparing to cut down into Rey, though of course that may not have been the way it happened or the clip may have been misinterpreted by the person theorizing this). He knew she had the potential to pose a huge problem for him, though, but since he couldn't bring himself to kill her, not being fully on the Dark Side yet despite the slaughter of the new Jedi, he instead left her with Unkar Plett on Jakku, possibly wiping others memories of her. Those events, especially if Luke believed his daughter was dead at the hands of his nephew, could have definitely driven him into solitude, and would explain the look on his face at seeing Rey. It doesn't explain everything perfectly, so I'm not completely sold, but I suspect some parts at least may be accurate, such as someone other than Luke leaving her on Jakku. Edit: Another theory. I believe that Kylo Ren's obsession with Vader and his legacy did not initially come from his own knowledge and draw him to the Dark Side, but was instead the tool that Supreme Leader Snoke used to tempt him. I can't see Luke not teaching Ben the correct story, but like the snake in the Garden of Eden (yes, wouldn't be the first Biblical reference in Star Wars), Snoke comes along saying, "That's not really what happened, was it? Vader was on the right track, and evil Luke kept him from getting what he deserved, but you can do better". I would expect in that case, Snoke also gave him the melted helmet, though it's possible Luke still had it and gave it to Ben or Ben stole it from him, or that it showed up somewhere else like Luke/Anakin's old lightsaber. jW -
I think I'd want to be a Mistborn Skybreaker. The levels of power that could be unleashed would be ridiculous, and I'd be very difficult to kill. jW

Do we know which realm Shardblades go to when they're dismissed? Are they going to the Spiritual, or to the Cognitive (or is there something else going on)? If not, the question I'd want to know is if it's possible to summon a Shardblade away from Roshar. If they're linked more to the Cognitive than to the Spiritual, I'd suspect that may not be easily doable, if at all. jW

Having a Bad Day?: Get 'yer Hugs here!!
Jondesu replied to Curious Anamaximder's topic in General Discussion
No one knows yet. And here I am, 3AM lying on the couch because I can't go to sleep for the third night in a row, while my head keeps pushing away at my skull. At least I don't have to work anymore; disability is in effect pending the doctor's approval. jW -
Having a Bad Day?: Get 'yer Hugs here!!
Jondesu replied to Curious Anamaximder's topic in General Discussion
So my saga continues. As some of you might remember, I've had an ongoing constant headache that has just now passed the two year mark. This morning, we tried an occipital nerve block (injecting a deadening agent directly into a nerve in my skull essentially). Most painful medical procedure I've experienced, though fortunately short lived (the acute stabbing pain that is). The headache? Not so much as a quiver, and then tonight it spiked. Hence why I'm on the couch at 12:30 writing this instead of sleeping. Only bright spot is I think I'm going to get approved for short term disability, so if so, I won't have to fight my body and keep trying to work, which has largely been a failed endeavor lately anyways, at least the last couple weeks. jW -
Elantris Leatherbound Question about Devotion's Shardpool
Jondesu replied to Youngy's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Raoden was a special case too, with the Dor trying to force its way out through him (much more so than the other Elantrians). Obviously there wasn't a conscious decision behind that since the Dor is splintered power and doesn't have a holder right now, but it was very similar. Raoden appears to basically have been Devotion/Dominion's Champion, though it did of course work differently.jW -
Wait, I'm confused… why did you use my signature? jW

Wait, I've seen this a few times, and I have to jump in. Kaladin may not know what an Honorblade is, but Syl told him how Szeth isn't bonded to a spren, and that his powers are different, and then when she starts screaming about the blade, I'm confident in Kaladin's mental abilities enough to think that he must have realized that it wasn't just an ordinary Shardblade. He's seen enough with Syl (and is using her as a Shardblade) to know when something like that must be important because she says so. I still prefer the original ending for many of the other reasons that have been discussed, but I think that particular point isn't accurate. jW

I think it just implies Hoid would inspire killing, probably by antagonizing someone so much they try to kill him. :-P jW

Apologies if this has been done, but I checked and couldn't find anything. What are ya'lls guilty pleasures, big or small? My recent one has been getting nuggets and ice cream from Chick-Fil-A, then shaking the little crispy bits from the nuggets out on top of the ice cream as a delicious crunchy topping. jW
