Yep, 13 as planned now, but that could expand. Original trilogy: 3 books Era 2 (Wax and Wayne): 4 books Era 3 (1980's-ish? Mistborn/Misting SWAT team): 3 books Era 4 (Space travel): 3 books Any of those Eras could spin out into more books than planned and there could be more that pop into his head at any given time, like Wax and Wayne did. jW

This is where this conversation began. I think it's safe to say that Shallan's ability to inspire people as well as her mnemonic abilities are both perks of her Order, or at least of her being a Radiant. I don't think there's anything in-world or via WoB or any other sources that validates the idea that each order gets one distinct "perk". jW

Add to that the quote from Wayne about him storing as much health as he can while still being able to move, and by the end of the day still only barely being able to heal a scratch. While there's likely some exaggeration there, we can still assume it would take a high amount of "health" to heal a potentially mortal wound, but it doesn't have to be millions of times faster than normal (since it's not about speed, but amount). jW

But what if 20% of health was completely crippling to store, and possibly deadly? Besides, it's not necessarily a percentage in the first place. What if there's some theoretical "amount" of full health that would have to be stored, and let's say normal compounders can store a maximum of 1 unit of health an hour, but it takes 30000 to restore you to full health from one of those situations. Normal Bloodmakers would never reach 3.5 years of storing at the maximum rate, but with compounding he could reach that in an evening potentially. Obviously I'm not doing any complicated math in that calculation, but just using it as an example. jW

Yep, but note he says "quirks". Not "a quirk". That's all I'm suggesting, that this idea of "each Order has two Surges and one Perk" is misguided. There are almost certainly multiple perks/quirks per Order, and not necessarily just ones we think about so far. Kaladin's ability to make people believe in themselves and become soldiers so quickly (quickly enough to be miraculous) is one example, potentially. jW

Except what he's storing isn't "healing". It's "health". I view that as the sort of "Platonic Ideal of Health". When they store health, they don't get sick more easily, they become less healthy, regardless of the illnesses they could potentially contract. When they tap it, they don't gain the ability to heal faster, they get themselves that much closer to the ideal of health. That would mean he only really needs to have 100% of the ideal of health stored at any given time to return to full health even from a beheading or explosion, so while that's a lot of health to store in gold normally (since you probably can't store it at a very high rate without killing yourself, and certainly without crippling yourself badly while you do), and probably impossible for a non-compounder, it's not the crazy high rate of storage/tapping it would otherwise imply. jW

I know someone on here made a QuizUp quiz about Mistborn, but has anyone tried to get any more trivia out there about Brandon's works? I play a good bit of Trivia Crack, and tried submitting several questions about Mistborn and The Stormlight Archives, and even one about The Wheel of Time, but they keep getting down voted and not making it through the review process, likely by people who haven't heard of his works. Anywhere else we can try to spread some trivia about his stories? Edit: Didn't want to reply to my own topic, but if you play the new Trivia Crack Kingdoms game, I submitted a few Cosmere questions in the Literature category, plus there's a (very small) Mistborn category, but with only a few followers. jW

Duralumin Compounder. That has potential to be terrifying
Jondesu replied to Firehead13's topic in Mistborn
I think it's almost certain that he either has this ability or something very similar. Perhaps if he'd actually be able to meet Vin, she'd have trusted him, but alas, it wasn't to be so. We know both Shallan and Kaladin trusted him quickly, and Shallan's feelings seem to have lasted. I didn't get the impression of the same trust from Kelsier, but he also may not have been as overtly suspicious as he usually was, plus that may not have been Hoid's goal considering his role at the time. jW -
We have every reason to doubt those tales, because they're "possibly exaggerated". In addition, do we know that each Order gets two surges and one perk, or is it possible that both of those abilities and more could be side-effects or perks that the Radiants may get? jW

There doesn't have to be, certainly, but there were before, so it's theoretically possible. Plus, it'd be awesome to see an army of Windrunners (10-15 would be nearly unstoppable again most enemies, but probably just right against some potential enemies we may see). jW

We've gotten more useful Cosmere knowledge out of the interludes than some of the main chapters. Everything Brandon writes is important, even little details you don't think should be. jW

This should have a poll (maybe I'll make a related one). I'm 30 and long out of college myself. It seems I'm in the minority there, which makes me feel old, though I'm definitely not the oldest on the site obviously. jW
-
I was wondering that myself. Has anyone ever asked Brandon if all Radiants of the same order will necessarily bond the same type of spren? Does every Windrunner bond a Highspren, or do they bond a spren and then get powers based on their order (which I would assume largely comes from a Cognitive perception or ideal of some type), but the two aren't necessarily always the same for every Radiant? jW

A truly balanced set of that many intents would offer many ways of acting. It's when you have just two very dynamically opposed intents that it gets tough to act, like is happening with Harmony. jW
-
Yep, and while a greatshell would look very alien to us, it'd be very natural looking in-world to Kaladin. jW

I'm not sure we know surgebinding isn't genetic. We've got at least three Kholins who are Radiants, with two more that have pervasive rumors. I suspect if there's a genetic component, it's more of a predisposition than a guarantee, but there may well be some genetics involved. As for the Honorblades, they aren't the only source of Surgebinding either. jW

I feel like there was a WoB that said we've seen all the Heralds even though we didn't recognize them, but I'm on mobile and don't feel like trying to find it at the moment. We've definitely seen several as mentioned, and it's commonly theorized that the breaking of the Oathpact, or the centuries/millennia since, or something else, has all but driven them mad, or at least some of them. jW

I think the combination of it glowing (which sure, maybe chasmfiends do in a storm), and the fact that he didn't describe it like a chasmfiend, which he was familiar with, is what tells me it probably wasn't. Besides, the terminology "inhuman" to me suggests something like a human, but just enough off to be obviously not quite human. I realize that's not what the word actually means, so that's not really part of my argument for it, just an observation of why my mind went there first.Keep in mind Brandon is very careful with his word choices. If we were meant to decipher that it was a chasmfiend, he'd probably have had Kaladin say it looked like a greatshell or something along those lines. It could just be misdirection of course, also a very Brandon thing to do, but it doesn't read that way to me at first. jW
-
The way it was described, it seemed a lot bigger than any chasmfiend. jW
-
Okay, so based on where the chasm is shown, would the extra line have been outside the city to the south, or inside the city walls? When I read Elantris (all 3-4 times), I pictured it outside the city wall, but I can't quite tell if that's true. jW
-
I wondered about that too. I suspect Odium or an Unmade is traveling the storms too, possibly unknown to the Stormfather, and influencing him, contributing to his madness and decision to wipe out the armies of the Alethi.jW

Not really sure, but it would be something with vertebrae in my neck I think. I'm going to wear a collar for a week or so as a test to see, plus they're going to do X-rays to check if it would help. jW
