  1. Well, I guess here and now is a good a time and place as any to share this. I read that one news post that mentioned CFSWF month (where everybody creates horribly tragic things on purpose) and thought it would be fun to participate. I don't have a tumblr, though, so... Here it is. I made an animation thingy that's really more of a glorified slideshow. I drew all the pictures then realized that iMovie didn't like the ratio, so I had to upload them to the computer and use Windows Movie Maker so nothing would get cut off. The good ratio plus subpar music (using the autoplay feature in GarageBand) is posted on YouTube. The bad ratio plus better, although still not perfect, music - a fan song called "Vin's Theme" on YouTube - is still on my phone. There's the story. I'll post the other one here when I'm on a computer and not the phone. It doesn't want to upload here. Sorry for the music.
  2. Granted. Perfect temperatures all the time, just for you. You can now only watch movies rated G. All the rest show up as static. I wish for determination and memory to be able to get things done!
  3. My friend got a question of interest answered. Q: will Stick make another appearance? A: it's really unlikely ( )
  4. @Viridian yes! I have a wonderful wonderful friend who lives even closer than I do, and he was able to get there exactly at 9 this morning. He now has copy number one and is first in line! Which means I'm second! Hooray! My first signing experience is going well.
  5. Wow, you guys. I... Feel sort of guilty for not going to all the signings I could in the past. I'm also in awe of @Viridian. That's a while to drive! @Sunbird, hope you feel better soon. Being sick isn't fun at all. So, since I don't have a good one, does anybody have a burning question I could ask for them?
  6. Actually, I have a friend who wrote an essay about the deleted interlude about Stick using the Coppermind article as inspiration. It's a few pages long and pretty storming funny. Here. It's not mine, let it be known. It's great though. Spoiler tag for length.
  7. No, I didn't see that until now, actually. Good observation skills to all those who did! I wonder what the illustration on the right is about... a guy meditates and levitates and the Shardblade doesn't hurt him? Or is he training the other guy? I didn't look at these earlier. I guess I assumed that they weren't important but why on earth would I? This is Sanderson we're discussing here...
  8. Just BTW, the newest news article thingy (Social stuff for June) didn't show up well on my mobile device just now. Using chrome on an iPhone. The content of the article spilled out into normal desktop ratio. The header was a little funky, too, but most of everything else was normal.
  9. So excited that this is happening when and where I am able to go! YES!! Who else is planning on going?
  10. Okay, quick question: HOW is that Spider-Man? I just... Don't... Understand... But good job, @Sunbird, for spreading the awesomeness. If the entirety of this world read more Sanderson... It would be a different world. I know only two or three people who have managed to not become obsessed after trying one of his books, out of probably more than twenty. (And one of them wasn't interested enough in Harry Potter to finish the third book, so...) And, uh, you know you're a Sanderfan when you can spend as much time and thought as I did writing something like the above and imagining the repercussions of an entire world filled with sharders.
  11. The symbol looks to be the one @Windrunner pointed out. That's cool - I haven't seen it before. Finally there's a symbol for the whole cosmere, though. Time to make some buttons. It couldn't be an Aon anyway, though, because Aons are constructed pretty much purely out of Aon Aon, which is a curve and a line and a dot. That symbol doesn't have any straight lines at all. Add a few, and it would look much like an Aon, but... not as it stands. That's actually kind of interesting. Elantris is set first in the timeline of the cosmere, right? So it could be that Sel is where the people who emigrated from Yolen went first. After all... (Secret History spoilers) My first thought was that maybe the symbol was some combination of different languages throughout the cosmere, but that wouldn't make sense because of timing issues and what it looks like versus what we know of symbols so far. It could be that all the languages and symbols in the entire cosmere all derived from the same original Yolen one. That... is probably the case, actually. It bears a lot of similarities to the Aons. I wonder if it's a stylized map of the cosmere. The sun is in the middle and could give us a clue to whatever/whoever Adonalsium was. The fact that it has sixteen rays seems significant to me. I'm probably just reading into this too much, but the sun's shape (a circle with rays) could also mean that Adonalsium wasn't just a holder of all the Shards' power, he was able to reconcile all of them. (random thought: did Scadrial mess with anybody else's orbit when it was slightly out of whack?)
  12. I'm not sure why Laral is completely symmetrical. I assume we'll know at some point. It's also been noted upon a few times that Kaladin's name is also very "lighteyes"-ish. Maybe it has something to do with the tradition of their family or the fact that surgeons are usually quite highly regarded. I expect more will become clear later. Hesina and Lirin most likely thought both Tien and Kaladin were dead, as neither returned. I don't think Amaram cared enough to send something like condolence letters, either. If his parents (or one of them) are still alive, I believe they would be really happy he was alive, but of course very sad Tien wasn't. I like to think his father would be proud of the way Kaladin used his medical knowledge to help where he could, then build off of that and create the storming team that storming guards the king. There's going to be some pride, for sure. Maybe disappointment that Kaladin continues to pursue a life of combat. Hesina's probably just plain old ecstatic to see him alive and thriving (... now) in the first place. I like to imagine them meeting Syl. There's probably not much left for them in Hearthstone. Perhaps they go back to Urithiru with Kaladin and become parents to the entire population there. All I know for sure, though, is that if there is reunification, it will make me cry and that Sanderson will probably surprise us and pull a twist nobody expected would actually happen.
  13. Granted. You have a wonderful, mahogany table that can fold into your pocket and weighs almost nothing when small. As a bonus, the Nightwatcher even gives the table the ability to create whatever food you want. As your bane, you can no longer see any color but red. Eventually your brain overcompensates and everything looks to be in shades of red. (Hey, at least it's not gray.) I wish that I could have whatever music I wanted for free.
  14. That's really interesting. One thing I wanted to throw out there: when he uses "coin" in his little speech thing to the guards at the end of WoK, they seem to understand him. At least as far as I can tell. They might not have. I I think the translator might be something like what we saw in BoM. Perhaps it wasn't specifically a feruchemical storage but some other kind of tool that harnesses investiture to alter a person's Connection. So while what Hoid says may not translate well, maybe they understood him because of the altered Commection anyway.
  15. I like this idea. I've often wondered how Allomancy would fit into today's intense commercialization and everything. I think that you might be able to use an Allomancer - specifically one that has a physical effect - to create energy. Depending on the cost of the metal and the cost of other fuels, it might be cheaper. I'm thinking that Coinshots, Lurchers, and Pewterarms would have the most obvious applications, but perhaps you could find a way to use a Slider or something. Maybe someday people could figure out how to transfer emotion brainwaves into electric signals, though that's just kind of a half-baked idea. Sort of going along with that... What happens to burnt metal? There's probably something about that on the Shard I'm not aware of, but I'm too lazy to look it up. If the conservation of matter and energy theory holds true on Scadrial, then that could mean burnt metal shows up somewhere else on the planet. What if people figured out how to harness it and have metal production facilities where all burnt metal grows in a tube or something, pure and ready to use? Of course, that doesn't really make sense for alloys. There are holes in that for sure, but it could work. Probably. It's a cool idea, anyway. I don't see why a lock using Allomancy couldn't work, but changing shape? I think your idea has credence but way too many variables. How is a non-Allomancer supposed to know which key code or key to use? What would prevent any old Allomancer from going and changing it, so that the people who do need the door can't use it? If there's a pattern to pushes and pulls, that's essentially the exact same as a key code, except only Coinshots and Lurchers can use it and it's more invisible. I think that this product would find a very limited audience, and wouldn't be worth the time to design and produce.
  16. Your writer's block ends! You decide to pull in way overused tropes and your story is very popular. You lament the sad state of the world and the people in it, but at least you succeeded. The Nightwatcher gives you a bane in the form of a paper airplane. This airplane follows you around, swooping through the air and never leaving you alone. It glows a little bit and pokes you sometimes if you stop too fast. It also smells strongly of popcorn. I wish everything in my house would clean itself, without me having to do work. Please.
  17. We applaud you. Thank you for sharing the light. I tell as many people as possible about how great Sanderson stuff is. They probably get tired of it. I find a way to recommend it to anybody. For example: I like... | So read... ----------|------------ Romances | Warbreaker; Mistborn; WoR Vampires | Elantris Dystopian | Mistborn; Warbreaker Westerns | Wax and Wayne Politics | All of them, seriously (Warbreaker) Movies | Mistborn Rocks | Stormlight Nothing | Everything This isn't a comprehensive list but gives you an idea of how I talk. "I'm really hungry." "It's a good thing you're male. Men's food seems to be more savory. It's okay. I like sweet things." "I wish I could be Spiderman." "You know, Coinshots are kind of like Spiderman. Close enough, anyway." "I hate every presidential candidate." "I'm just glad we have candidates and not gods that take our life force and never seem to do anything." Every Sanderson reference is a possible gateway into the best thing ever.
  18. Granted. Your puppet is beautiful. As your bane: from now on, anything you look at will change color from what it was supposed to be. This does not apply to digital things. I wish for a good, happy week. This week.
  19. Granted. You get free, fast wifi everywhere you go. That'll be nice for a few years, at least until wifi tech becomes obsolete. Anytime you use a keyboard (pianos count, too), their keys turn neon orange. And start to smell like space oranges. That's like oranges only more sour and... not as good. I wish for $90,000. (Money's a sadly common wish, but oh so useful.)
  20. Granted. Temperatures in rural New York are perfect, at least according to you. The government is now at your door asking who gave you the authority to do such a thing and knock the Earth into a weird orbit. Your bane is that any car you drive or ride in is turned into a normal farm tractor for the duration of your trip. No, the tractors don't go freeway speed and don't have any special powers. Don't worry - they're all licensed for driving on any road. I wish for the weather where I am to obey me.
  21. Your wish is granted. All the sentient raccoons are now human. As your bane, the Nightwatcher causes all electronics you spend longer than 10 seconds looking at to break irreparably... because different pieces turn into mini sentient raccoons. I wish for a free vacation!
  22. Oh, I feel you. So does the Nightwatcher. She grants your wish! You are now not allergic to cats. In fact, the cats love you. Your bane is that now, any chair or couch, no matter how soft-looking, feels like hardwood under you. This applies to whatever you try and sit on. Cushions don't help and long trips, in a car or airplane, are horrible. I wish to be socially competent.
  23. Okay, I guess I see what you were doing there. I was attacking it from a different angle, but I get yours now! Lash a bunch of water to the bottom of the cup. What are the mechanics of Lashing liquids anyway? Tie your shoelaces, and use Abrasion to make sure they will stay tied. Not that the triple knot you did wouldn't do it, but... sometimes people are paranoid about their shoelaces coming undone.
  24. These aren't useless! I would do this! That being said... you could always tap mental speed while listening to a Crash Course video on 2x speed (sorry, it's finals time)
  25. Granted.Their superhero movies are pretty good, except feature characters with deep emotional problems that you don't really care about. And that's not even your bane - just a bunch of ... ah ... interesting ... people in charge. Your bane takes the form of a cat that follows you around, meowing constantly. The more you try to kill it, the more you become allergic. It's immortal and will never leave. It drives you and anybody around you crazy. I wish to never come back to English after today.
