Game: Scenes that Brandon will most likely write about

Easy one. Hunting down all the proto-radiants we wish would live, and reviving all the people who actually do deserve to die. Nazh -
Favorite cosmere character quote!
Emerald101 replied to Sylfan's topic in General Brandon Discussion
The Coppermind is full of quotes. Here are some of my favorites. -
This is a bit of a misconception (source). Theoretically, bendalloy and cadmium would've worked in the era 1, and atium/malatium would work in era 2 (if you got access to some). The "switching" was an act of preservation's cognitive shadow (the mists) which created atium/malatium mistings instead of cadmium/bendalloy during the mistsnappings because it was simpler (for the people involved) to use metals they already knew. The Ultimate List of Questions for Brandon
Emerald101 replied to Chaos's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Godmetals and spren aren't very good analogs. by WoB, spren are splinters whereas godmetals aren't. I would expect the creation mechanism for the two to be substantially different. -
You've forgotten one of the most common: OBNGE (Other Books Not Good Enough).

The Ultimate List of Questions for Brandon
Emerald101 replied to Chaos's topic in Cosmere Discussion
You might want to specify what you mean by "person". Leaving wiggle room leads to inconclusive answers. -
make what you will of it (Game)

They both undergo metamorphosis (the tadpole into a frog, the bike into a useless heap of scrap metal). Taking a test is like reading a Sanderson Novel. -

They're equally useful against Hoid. Unsolvable differential equations are like RAFO's. (I've been studying WAY to hard for Calculus....) -
The Surgebinder Within (Yet Another KR Quiz)
Emerald101 replied to Mr. Staccato's topic in Stormlight Archive
Took it twice, which was an interesting exercise. First time 65% Lightweaver 56% Elsecaller 28% Truthwatcher Second time 59% Lightweaver 35% Elsecaller 33% Willshaper Results were interesting. I'd always seen myself as a Truthwatcher (Hence the avatar), which was confirmed by the other quiz. It even lined up with my favorite color, gem, and birthstone! This quiz disagrees though. And it really does strike me as more accurate. I never really thought of myself as a Lightweaver, but on reflection it really does fit my character, and clearly I can't escape it. Second time around was picking the response I decided against on the really close ones. for record keeping or whatever, I'd definitely consider the first results more accurate.- 151 replies

There are Adonalsiums-splinters too though, so before/after the shattering might not be a deciding factor. Source (edited for relevancy, ephasis mine.) The mention of splinters makes me wonder if divine breath are spren-analogs too. . . Edit: spacing

So Decay and the Former are both shards, then?

make what you will of it (Game)
Emerald101 replied to Citadel16's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
If you break one, you're in trouble. Having a job is like burying dead people. -
And then how does decay fit in all of this? In the prologue he says that Agaris "came to him" and that was the only way Agaris was able to "defeat" Makkal. As he's in his prison, Agarsi appears to be all-powerful. "Once, that scream would've shaken the Universe, shattering planets with it's intensity" and such. Despite that power, Decay has (according to Agaris) somehow imprisoned him and Makkal using "Order itself, the very substance of the Universe". What is Decay, and how does (he? she? it?) fit into all of this? Edit: clarity

I think the difference may be one of evolution (with respect to brandon's writing rather than time in the cosmere), Similar to who the shadow-warriors seem like the original form of night essence. I expect that Aethers as they are canonically (IIRC peter said something about them being canonical) will be analogous to spren and seons.

What is the strength enhancement of Shardplate?
Emerald101 replied to Oudeis's topic in Stormlight Archive
There's a WoB on whether or not lesser spren can bond. (Source) And with regard to Syl not caring about plate, I'd say dead sprenplate vs. dead sprenblade would be on the order of dead animal vs. dead person. A dead animal (think stray axehound at most sympathy or cremling at least) is still sad, but not remotely on the level of a fellow human being (not to make light of those who've lost pets. The emotional attachment there makes it a completely different story). On the other hand though, Syl describes windspren as being her "cousins", so who knows. Edit: better phrasing, parentheticals, and spacing -
Usually "Shardbearer" refers to the inhabitants of Roshar who own a shardblade, shardplate, or both. "Shardholder" is the traditional (read: old) term for what Confused calls "Vessels".

Even if non-metal spikes are possible (which I highly doubt), this would probably still not be the case. People hypothesize about gem spikes because the see a possible link between the spike material and a magic system's focus. In the case of forging, however, soulstone is clearly not the focus. Forging can be accomplished with any material (except perhaps ralkalast - AKA aluminum. We know forging it is impossible but I haven't heard anything about forging with it.). Soulstone isn't the focus of forging, it's just a material that's particularly easy to make soulstamps out of.

Paired Shards and Honour's Opposite
Emerald101 replied to Jo and the Bush's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Actually, WoB has it that ruin's intent is most aligned with culitivation. (Edited for focus on the point in question): Source -
note: it is theoretically possible for lesser spren to form bonds. (Source)

I think the correct term would be something like 'splint-holder' (Like 'Shardholder' but on a much smaller scale). Regardless, the way AonDor works signals to me that Elantrians don't hold splinters, but rather just channel investiture. The key difference is that splinters seem to be more or less separate from the parent shard (they often even have their own intent.), whereas plain investiture appears to return to the shard after use. Elantrians losing their shine/glow when they go off-world signifies that they aren't carrying that investiture around with them, but that they're simply connected to the Dor.

Intercosmere Webway Travel or a Hoax?
Emerald101 replied to im_not_superman's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Would you mind giving the source for this? Thanks. As far as worldhopping is concerned, we know a fair bit about how this works. The "webway" you're thinking of is actually just the cognitive realm (source), and is the main way people worldhop. Distances in the cognitive aren't the same as in the physical because the cognitive skips over places where there aren't any sentient beings (source). Many people (myself included) think that shardpools are how worldhoppers typically get into shadesmar, but that's currently unconfirmed. -
Elantrians are not splinters. By definition, a splinter is a thing which has never been human. source Emphasis mine. I was intrigued by the argument, so I looked it up on the Coppermind. Turns out, the term 'splinter' doesn't mean quite what I thought it did.
