  1. Color editor hates everyone, I think. I've been having more issues with it lately than I usually do. As for pointers. There's no correct way to play these games. Everyone has their own style and that's what makes it fun. If we all played the exact same, it would be boring. You're doing fine. You're learning, and that's the important thing. As for digging your hole deeper, not necessarily. If someone asks you to explain your motivation for doing or saying something, as long as you can give an explanation that makes sense (in that people can understand why it makes sense within your playstyle), you should be fine. But beyond that, I'd hesitate to give pointers, since that would turn you into one of us. And then we'd lose the flair of uncertainty you add to the games (and that flair isn't a bad thing, even if it gets you targeted. You survived almost the whole game in Joe's Quick Fix, so that's something. ) That's pretty standard. Could be timezones or real life or any number of other things. Some of the poke votes (like Joe's) were to get people to talk a little more, but the person didn't, so it wasn't removed. Some of them might not have really been poke votes. I'm not too worried about it since there wasn't a lynch.
  2. I contemplated it. I was actually going to do a much longer post initially, where I explained all three and then voted for one of them, but then as I was looking over my notes, I knew I didn't have enough suspicion toward any of them to vote. Plus, I was in the middle of something at work at the time. So I figured I'd end it there, and see what they had to say (and yes, I figured they'd ask for my suspicions, but I wanted to see how they asked, since that can be telling too). I figured I'd get around to responding in a few hours, after I was off work. But then the computer program at work went down for the rest of the day, so...yeah. More free time to respond. To be honest, I'm glad I did it the way I did. Two of them have pretty much dropped off the list (back to the middle ground where almost everyone else is) so there's only one left. Odysa. And she'll stay on there until she gives some sort of explanation other than excitement over the fact that she's subtle....
  3. Ah. Thank you for those explanations, Macen. You're not completely off that suspect list, but you've dropped below Kas. (Also, just a comment about your joke to Kas about being higher on my list earlier. You don't want to be on my list. And I don't mean suspect list. I mean over-arching lists. Some people here have kill lists--people who they want to kill should they ever be an eliminator. I don't have a kill list (except for people like Barty who play me very handily). I have a Battle of Wits list. Right now, the only people on it are Meta, Gamma, and Aonar (although I know Wyrm really wants to be on it too). Gamma and Aonar should've dropped off after LG9, but they were kind enough to state that they weren't fully paying attention to the game. So now I get to try manipulating them again in the (hopefully) near future. I hear that I'm very good on Team Evil, so believe me when I say that you don't want to be on my list. It's not pretty. ) If you have more time now, I'd suggest reading through the last cycle a little more thoroughly. If you want, skip the RP, and just read the blue text. That'll give you a lot better idea of what's going on. I mean, you can continue to lie low if you want, but it won't really help us much. Active participants are better than semi-actives who don't really know what's going on so can't weigh in on anything (but even those are better than inactives). I wouldn't worry about the fact that the last times you've been really active you've been manipulated by the eliminators. That's the way we learn. I've had that happen too. I think everyone does at some point. And that's fine. It's what makes the game so much fun. At least, that's a factor for me: seeing if I've learned enough to not get taken in by the eliminators. EDIT so as not to double post: Ah. Makes sense. Yeah, those scenarios can be tricky. I always still group myself in it when I make them, because I know others suspect me, but I can see why people don't. Or why people might comment on their lack of guilt if they're still going to include themselves in the scenario....... Hm. Apparently I find people suspicious when they don't do something the way I would do if I were in their position. I should probably stop doing that. (although, at the same time, this is what discussion is for....to clear up those misconceptions)
  4. .....I just got trolled by all three of my suspects. I'm not sure what to make of that.... :/
  5. Why do I suspect you two? I'll start with Macen, since he asked first. And he's technically the higher of you two (meaning he's my highest suspect, currently). Most of my suspicion of him stems entirely from his last post last cycle. First was the "sitting back a bit" comment, which I can understand, since he's been gone for quite a few months. Playstyles of the players he was familiar with could've changed (assuming those players are even still playing), plus there are a lot of new players. So okay. That's fair. The fact that he was calling attention to his sitting back was like he wanted us to not worry about his silence. Let him slide under the radar. I don't like it when people try to do that. That's an eliminator strategy. Then he mentioned Meta's idea. Meta's idea had issues, and those were brought up very well by Aonar. They were also refuted very well by Meta. The plan, as he laid it out in his second explanation, is solid. It limits the spies very well. And while Macen agreed with the plan, he said "I feel as if we may be limiting ourselves, but it's better than giving the Spies a chance to swing the vote." How are we limiting ourselves? The lighteyes vote is one vote. While it could be of use to Team Good, there's also a larger number of voters at our disposal, since there are more good people than evil. If we work together, that lighteyes vote is unnecessary. But it can work well for Team Evil. One vote can swing something from a lynch to a tie. Or a tie to a lynch. Or, coupled well with a role like the Squad Leader, it could completely change the lynch target. We're not limiting ourselves by carefully directing the lighteyes vote. And yet that's what Macen said, while agreeing to the plan. This is also an eliminator tactic. As for Odysa. At a time when pretty much everyone was placing poke votes on people just to get them to talk, she placed a second vote on Jasnah, ostensibly claiming that it was a poke vote. But that's exactly what mine was. This pushed what was meant to be a poke into a lynch. Then when she made her list, she brought up the fact that there were two votes on Jasnah and said she would normally say it's suspicious, but since she's one of the votes, it's not. That comment almost felt like a subtle manipulation to get people looking at that vote and suspecting me more heavily because of it. And while people should suspect me (they should suspect everyone though), that vote isn't a reason to suspect the person jumping around placing poke votes and then retracting them right after the person responds. It's a reason to suspect the person who was the second voter. Lastly, she tried to throw suspicion onto Jain (using gambler's fallacy), in white text as if she wasn't really trying to get us to suspect him, but she still wanted people to (especially since it was obvious there was white text there, with all the blank space at the end of that post). Those are the reasons. There's not much. Nothing spectacular. Nothing really condemning--that's why I'm not voting. I don't have a good enough reason to. But hopefully, through watching, I'll see something more (whether in one of your three or someone else. I don't really mind. I'm keeping my suspicions open and swayable. ).
  6. You're trolling me right now. You're not as good as Aonar, though. Sorry. Why you? Mostly because the other day you were talking about some strategy thing--can't remember what specifically--and you said in a parenthetical comment that "obviously I know I'm not a spy," and that statement just struck me as being very similar to when Maill and I were joking in the baron doc about how we're obviously not barons. Additionally, saying outright that you're not a evil seems like a rather heavy-handed way of getting people to believe that you're not evil. Making comments that strongly indicate your innocent alignment is one thing. Stating outright? That's something else. And it strikes me as suspicious. You are the lowest of my suspicions, if it makes you feel any better.
  7. Well, the lighteyes vote is working thus far. We'll see how well it works when we lose a few lighteyes. That's a good point about the battle. However, I think we're told if someone's saved by a Surgeon or a Guardsman, though. So we should have a pretty decent guess of how many teams there are almost no matter what happens. I'm confused about something though. Why Ash? He posted once, and he was only asking a bunch of questions (and those questions didn't even immediately point to him being the messenger, although there was a decent chance he was). I don't see what the point was. Even if they thought he was the messenger, PMs are so limited that they're not even really an issue for the eliminators at all, or they shouldn't be. And if they didn't target him for his possible role, then that's even more confusing. He said practically nothing.....which I guess tells us that at least one of the spy teams isn't playing things cautiously. They don't care if they take out other spies. I have three main suspects right now. All three are low to medium suspicion though, so nothing high. Kas, Odysa, and Macen. But I'm not going to vote on any of the three yet. I want to hear chatter first.
  8. I'm on board with the lighteyes vote plan. Meta today, and then we can choose someone else tomorrow once we have an idea who's on the chopping block. I'll send in that vote right now, but I'll be on a computer the rest of the day, so I'll periodically check back in (as per usual) to see if it's been changed.
  9. The generator loves some people and it hates others. Maill had I think 8 games before he was evil. On the other hand, Joe was evil the first 3 games he played. Jain's reaction indicates to me that he's probably Dalinar-aligned. That's not a guarantee, but his distress seemed genuine for what he's displayed in the past. There's a chance he could've done that because he knows if he didn't express dissatisfaction at once again being good we would suspect him of being evil (and now that I've brought that up, he'll have to keep that in mind for when he eventually does get to be an eliminator. (You're welcome, Jain )), and that's why I'm not saying he's certainly Dalinar-aligned. But until he does something more suspicious, I'm not going to give into gambler's fallacy. And since my vote on Jasnah was solely to get her talking and now we've got a second vote on her for apparently the same purpose (which I don't like), that seems rather redundant. So Jasnah. I can't think of who I want to hear from right now. Except for Ash and Eoldren, but Joe and Maill already voted for them. So I'll just sit back and wait.
  10. I really like this idea. I'm all for it. Seems like the best way to account for that vote and keep it from being misused. Especially since, while there's no doubt a light-eyed spy, I highly doubt there are more than two. And we have 5 lighteyes, so there shouldn't even be a tie, assuming all the lighteyes use the secret vote.
  11. Macen. And with that, we now have only two people who have not checked in at all. Odysa and Damon. Winter Cloud/pir2h hasn't been on since the game started, so that explains why she hasn't checked in. But Jasnah has totally been on. Multiple times. Now, since there aren't any PM's going on right now in this game, there's no reason for her to be feigning inactivity. So, Damon. Care to check in?
  12. Well, the Wit's personal victory only happens if he's lynched and dies or is killed by Shardblade. Death in combat doesn't matter. I was under the impression that it's only in those two scenarios when his ability to make the person who killed him lose his/her role kicks in. So the only time a spy would lose his/her role would be if they were the first to put the vote on the Wit. As for the number of spies. I was running off something I heard pre-game: that unless we got 5 more players (this was before Meta and luckat joined), we probably wouldn't have a third team. I agree that 4 is rather low. However, 6 is a little high for 20 players in the game, even with the possibility of friendly fire. A lot of that has to do with strategy anyway, and I'd imagine that the spies are going to be playing a little more on the cautious side of targeting just to keep the chance of hitting another spy as a bare minimum (ie targeting the players who have shown themselves to be more than likely allied with Dalinar rather than targeting players who are somewhere in the middle ground). Unless they want to go full-traitor mode and take the win for just their team of spies, not caring about the other teams. I kind of doubt they'll do that though. 2 against 18 is rather wretched. Especially when there are other eliminators out there. Which means that players who are outspoken and indicate that they're aligned with Dalinar aren't likely to last very long. In retrospect, I should've considered that last night before I posted that second time. I'm fairly worried now. Ah, well. Hindsight. I'm pretty sure I'm going to get targeted today, and if that happens, whatever. The idea that I had yesterday that I didn't want to post in the thread was about voting. Until the Wit dies, the lynch is the only way the spies could lose their roles (if I'm right about a sabotage kill on the Wit not affecting the Spy who killed him). Watch the vote very closely. And I don't mean shenanigans after it. I mean retractions, vote switching, and band wagons. Pay attention to the order of them. If a band wagon starts and the person who initially placed the vote on the band-wagoner retracts their vote, they could be a spy. Or it could be someone who didn't want to start a bandwagon. Or any number of other things. The point is to watch the people who do that. Keep an eye on them afterwards. If they get into a habit of it, the odds go up of their spy-ness. Of course, now that I've brought this up, they're going to be less likely to do that. Falling more into the middle of votes. Possibly not even taking part in lynches at all, just to avoid detection that way. Still, while the Wit is alive, pay attention to the votes. I'll be watching as well, but I don't have high hopes of surviving this game. I'm pretty sure I'm dead either today or tomorrow, and my skipping combat today isn't likely to save my life. Nor would I request protection from anyone, since I'm not worth saving. It's a well-known fact I'm better on team evil than I am on team good. Also, Tal. And now, Macen. Oh, and one clarification for Wyrm: during skirmishes, when choosing the random target, is the random factor the spy team or the target? Meaning, are you choosing randomly which spy team is successful with their sabotage or are you choosing which target gets sabotaged? There may not seem like much of a difference between the two at first glance, but if you get two spy teams who choose the same target, if it's the spy team that's randomly chosen, an Officer could potentially block the spy team from successfully sabotaging the target. If it's the target that's chosen, there are two spy teams doing it, so no matter what (unless you've got an Officer and a Surgeon/Guardsman working in tandem) the sabotage will go through.
  13. It would be rather hilarious, wouldn't it? Especially since I was witless not too long ago. Unfortunately, no. I still lack wit. Joe, I'm sorry. I still don't have time to RP. Perhaps tomorrow. We shall see. I applaud your laziness, though. I'll vote Tal simply because I want to hear from luckat. And then maybe I'll vote for Macen. Or Twei. Who knows? I'm not sure if you're asking if we should be targeting Wit to die, so he's out, or if we should be trying not to kill him so he loses that personal victory. I'm inclined to say you mean the latter. And I'm not sure I'd say that that's our strategy. I mean, not that we want the Wit to lose, because I don't care if he survives or dies (although I'm sure he'd prefer to die...so long as it's by Shardblade or lynch). The worry is that if he dies, whoever killed him loses their role. Or whoever was the first vote in a lynch. And I don't know about the rest of you, but I kind of like roles. They're useful. Losing them doesn't really help us. Unless it's a spy that loses it. So....that would mean lynching the Wit and hoping that a spy was the one to place the first vote. Hm. I just had a sudden thought, but I'm not going to post in here because I don't want to give the spies any help. Plus, it could potentially reveal one of them. Maybe. Probably not, but possibly. What role would you want to step up? I don't really see any that we would benefit from having everyone know about. Plus, who knows if the protective roles would protect them, since they might not trust them. The only role that's definitely good is Wit. And we don't want the spies knowing who that is. Because their kill on him is the only one that gets rid of him without causing any damage at all. Or giving him his personal victory. So I'd say we should keep our roles close to us, rather than ask for such-and-such role to step forward. It's not really set back by a half-cycle. Sure, the messenger has to wait to get a message through, but they'll have the entire next cycle to talk to the person, and then they can start a PM with someone else if they want to. It's unfortunate, but we should be talking in the thread anyway, and PMs are so limited that unless the Messenger is someone like Meta, it won't really matter too much what goes on in the background. Not that they shouldn't use it to communicate. We do need some background communication. But the fact that it's a little delayed isn't much of an issue. Highstorms are the one time they can't kill us. Each team (I think there's two teams, so four eliminators) picks one target each cycle. During Highstorm-cycles, no eliminator kill goes through. During Skirmish-cycles, one random eliminator kill goes through. So, flip a coin, that person dies. During battles-cycles, all eliminator kills go through (assuming none of the killers are action-blocked). You're not the only one confused. I was rather confused too. And then I wrote down all the rules and stuff in my spreadsheet. And everything sort of clicked into place. It's still a little confusing though. There's a lot going on. A lot to keep track of. It'll definitely be interesting.
  14. I don't have time to write up an RP right now as I just got back from Thanksgiving weekend and I have somewhere to be here shortly, but I want to give the reason for this. Somehow Wyrm didn't get my name onto the list of the lighteyes, because I wasn't on there when he posted the write up. I was on the darkeyes list. I asked him about it, and he realized the error and fixed it. I'm guessing that when he wrote that write up, he was using the list he made that didn't have my name on it. Hence my lack of appearance in the tent. Nothing more conspicuous than that. You can keep the vote on me though. I don't mind.
  15. This could be rectified by saying that the Math Smedry could only move positions one place either way. Then the lynch would always take place after the vote, regardless of any other shenanigans they try to pull.
  16. I believe we already established this fact. I seem to recall something about idiots, paper wings, and a bird. Also a lot of talk of my bloodthirstiness and about how I can't be allowed to live when I'm evil. (You have no idea how many screenshots I took on my phone of certain select passages of the spec lounge). Also, Maill. I'm reading The Letter-Bearer Doc right now, and excellent call on redacting my name. Sure, you were redacting it just in case the LB was in the game, but Joe could read it too. That could've been very bad.
  17. Technically, I have to give up the MEC, Shardblade, and Shardplate still. I denied them from Ren and Meta, since I realized that the only reason they should've gotten them is if they actually participated in the bet. Meaning, they also bet on Hoid. And won. But as you were so kind to inform us, nobody guessed that Satrams was Hoid. Hence they win nothing from me. Therefore, the House wins. So, you. I leave all three in your care. I only request that you don't give the Plate to Meta or the Blade to Ren. Or vice versa.
  18. Debatable. You were helping us in theory. The problem was that your stalking couldn't detect faction. All it could see was role, and what I knew is that I was prominent enough to be stalked in the second or third stalking. I also knew that I had a role you would want to be rid of. While my fellow barons had roles you wouldn't particularly like, they wouldn't be too much of a hindrance. But mitosis? Way too much flexibility. Best to be rid of you sooner rather than later.
  19. ....Yeah. Sorry about that. Despite my being a baron, that really was a legit mess-up with internet connection, like I said. When it ended the way it did, I was praying people wouldn't look too closely at who was left voting for you.
  20. ....183 mentions of your name. Wow. I guess that makes sense. I just went and checked, though, and Aonar has over 80 more than you (I think he's got 267). (This is what he gets for being the main target of my manipulation. And apparently that still didn't work as well as I'd thought. Humph.) ....Fine. I accept that. Although, if the spec doc's expectation for lengthy paragraphs in the BB doc explaining our logic and stuff is any indication, it's more instinctive than anything......And as I typed that out just now, it occurred to me that that's not necessarily a good thing. I'm instinctively evil. Or able to portray myself as mostly innocent (I'd say harmless, but we all know that would be a lie) when I'm anything but....Hm. This is definitely a trait I need to learn to help my Team Good side....
  21. Alv, that game was a freaking blast. I haven't had that much fun in a long while. Nor have I wanted to tear my hair out as much as I did at certain points... And now that I've read the spec doc and purgatory, I feel enlightened as to how much people seem to fear me. I mean really, Meta? I'm the scariest evil player here?! I think I tie at best. And now to hopefully sit out a few games, rest off my EXTERMINATE ON SIGHT level. Holy Batman is bad enough.... Also, I totally didn't catch the white text at the end of Aonar's post defending me to Araris. Whoops.
  22. Kenna had been known as Doomsday since before Steelheart had taken over Chicago. She hadn’t been that old--barely 17--when Calamity rose, but she’d mastered the skills she’d been blessed with and she’d never looked back at her life before. She was Doomsday. Kenna was no more. Or so she’d thought when she’d entered the Enforcer’s HQ almost a week ago. She’d been intent on reclaiming what had once been hers before Steelheart’s rise, but listening to the former Enforcer Chief, she was almost starting to feel bad about her actions. It was a new feeling for her, one she hadn’t felt in over 10 years. “I won’t follow someone who discards human life without a thought,” he’d said. And as she considered his words, she realized he was right. She hadn’t cared. All the people she’d helped kill, she felt no remorse over their deaths. She never had. Yet no one had ever called her out on it before, which wasn’t surprising because really--who confronted an Epic like that? And yet, here Aidan was, putting his life on the line, ready to sacrifice himself for what he believed was right. Doomsday wondered what that would be like, what that felt like. She leaned against the doorframe into the armoury, and kicked something on the floor. She looked down. It was Friend’s necklace. He’d believed in the Epics, once. He’d had faith that they would do the right thing, that they would save mankind. She stared at the necklace for a minute before looking back up, and studying Aidan and Friend. An idea started to form, but she needed to flesh out all the details before saying anything to the two of them. Instead, she hitched herself off the doorframe and said, “Perhaps Kelsey then.” As she turned back into the armory, her clones let Friend go, but she didn’t stay to watch his shocked expression. She had planning to do.
  23. Well, gosh. I'm having a moral dilemma now. And this is how we know that I'm not truly an Epic... I've got an idea, but I want to RP it (you can probably guess what it is though). However, I don't have time right now, so I'll post it here in a couple hours.
  24. Kenna walked out of the armory, stretching after her long night. She didn’t regret not killing Aidan. That Street Performer made her task difficult, especially with his paranoia. Sure, he said he wanted friends--he even called himself Friend--but he wasn’t actually willing to trust anyone. So she’d hesitated. But that was okay. The job was almost done, and they couldn’t stop her from completing it. “I’m afraid you’re both wrong about Kelsey. She’s thoroughly out of it. Has been all along. And you just killed your last chance of winning this.” She chuckled darkly. “Not that you really had much of a chance as it was.” The two of them stared at her, and she could tell they felt betrayed. For a brief moment, she felt bad about how much she’d manipulated them into doing nearly exactly what she wanted. But only for a moment. “Friend, I’m afraid you won’t live through the day. I’d say I’m sorry, but I’m not.” Two of her clones jumped behind Friend, holding him. “In fact, you’ll even be helping me kill you.” She grinned, and then turned to Aidan. “And thank you, Aidan. I couldn’t have done this without you. There was a rough patch there, where I thought you’d caught me, but you turned right back around and gave me the best defense a girl could ask for. I really hate to repay that with death, so if you want, you can help me string up Friend here and join me in my cause. I could use an Enforcer with your skill. Think about it, and let me know.” She started back toward the armory and then stopped, digging into her pocket. She pulled out a dead mouse and tossed it to Friend. “There you go. You finally have a friend now.” She laughed at him and then continued to her cot in the armory. Time to relax before the action really started. I doubt you’ll choose to join me, Aonar, and even if you do, I don’t know if I can actually choose not to kill you, but we can have Alv make that ruling should you want that (but I really doubt you will. And I can't blame you). And really, I am genuinely sorry for the manipulation. Especially after you tried saving my life in the other game….
