New Kharbranth Art and a Serious Question
Titan Arum replied to grantmhansen's topic in Stormlight Archive
Grant, have you done your lottery yet to determine what your next work will be? I'm still hoping to see the Reshi isles with the Tai-Na!- 33 replies

I've received the SoS broadsheet twice when I've ordered books from Brandon's website directly. If you want them but can't get to a signing, this is the best way to obtain one.

I don't have time to read all of this since I'm about to catch a flight (I read through page three at around 3 pm, and my has the topic exploded!), but I tend to agree with Kurk's member-hat only assessment and Meg's from early on. I have, over time, achieved one of the top 50 reps on the forum...but that's because I was one of the early people who got in on the meme action. I feel like these upvotes ARE devalued. I actually feet worse that my theory posts received only a few upvotes while my memes generated upwards of over two dozen at a time. The main reason why is that I spent a lot of time thinking about and researching my theory posts. To only get 3 upvotes for such a post but get 36+ for a throw away joke seems ridiculous to me. To that end, I've stopped posting in the memes sections and don't actually post very much in general anymore unless I think it really contributes to the discussion. I still read a lot of the forum on a regular basis, but I have been (and remain) a stickler with my upvotes because I only want to hand them out now if I think an idea/theory/topic is truly original and adds something to Brandon's world and our understanding of it. Again, this is just my two cents, but I agree with a limited upvote count due to how devalued upvotes have/did become.

Where's WalDo: The Kandra Worldhopper
Titan Arum replied to Kobold King's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Not necessarily. Autonomy doesn't have to mean that you're a hermit. It can also imply that you have freedom to make your own choices; freedom to do things how you see fit. If Autonomy decided, on his own merits without being coerced, to join with Odium (even if only briefly), then his intent still stands. -
Why, I'm glad you make this observation about Drehy! This is a pet theory of mine as well. Feel free to check out the topic I started on it. After much debate I still believe!

Wheres WalDo mark 2: The Threnody Worldhopper
Titan Arum replied to Full Metal Rithmatist's topic in Cosmere Discussion
We don't know if the Terriswoman on Nalthis is Aslydin. It's possible she is, since we know she's part of the 17th, but other than that it could be someone else. And currently, the nurse is the best guess as who the Terrisowoman actually is. This is the best we have with regards to if the nurse is the Terriswoman. I personally take the "gleeful" pause with a grain of salt, because I find it misleading. But nonetheless, we just don't know right now. -
Leather-bound Edition of Elantris
Titan Arum replied to WeiryWriter's topic in Elantris and Emperor's Soul
I received my copy...some time while I was traveling for work. It's a gorgous book, and if you're on the fence about whether or not to buy it, I highly recommend that you do! I decided to ask Brandon a question about Wyrn's sword, Gretgor: "If Gretgor, (1st Wyrn's sword) exists, who has it now?". Here's Brandon's response: At least I got my first RAFO card! I had originally wanted to ask if Gretgor was real and if there was something special about the sword. Then I assumed that would get RAFO'd. I thought that maybe a better question was to ask about who has the sword, because that too would confirm it's existence but not tell us anything special about the sword. Thus I assumed it would be less RAFO-able. Guess I was wrong! I sure hope Gretgor is real though. Why else would it even be mentioned in the glossary for Elantris? It's the only place it is ever mentioned, so maybe it'll have a role in Elantris 2 or 3? (Side note: I love the symmetrical number! It also is the same as an area code I used to live in.) -
New Kharbranth Art and a Serious Question
Titan Arum replied to grantmhansen's topic in Stormlight Archive
My vote would be Rysn approaching the Tai-na in the Reshi Isles! The Tai-na is described as like a massive island with forests and cliffs, etc. I think it would be epic to see this "island" in the sea. It has the potential to be a very colorful piece.- 33 replies

He's also commonly a beggar informant throughout the Cosmere. These are two roles well suited for someone who wants to seem innocuous and unimportant, but able to have access to what's going on because they typically are around important people frequently.

Weiry, do we have a combined thread anywhere that we can post all of our pictures from "personalized" books? As sort of an Archive for them all?
-
skaa, your post made me realize I'm getting close to that same rep level too! I hope I am online when it happens. Once we hit that level, we're no longer n00b5, are we?

Official Star Wars Episode VII Discussion Thread (TM)
Titan Arum replied to Seonid's topic in Entertainment Discussion
It saddens me to say that I had to SELL my Star Wars tickets for the 7 pm showing on Dec. 17th. I am out of the US in Bangladesh for work...which makes it very, very difficult to be in Washington, DC for the showing. Sigh. I may have to avoid the internet until Dec. 21st to purposefully avoid ANY indication of how awesome the Force Awakens actually is. I already see the first signs of spoilers on Twitter... -
Ahh, ok. Thank you for providing the actual quote Yata. I didn't realize that that quote existed. However, we already knew that Nightblood was based on Shardblades from other WoB, which assumed he had seen them before some how.

How do you make that interpretation from the quote Yata provided? There is nothing there to support such a claim.

Cravats in my opinion are too stuffy and remind me of the lace that hangs out the front of judges robes. Bowties, on the other hand, those are cool...at least to hipsters. Ties make me think of Wall Street. So, out of all of these (and they all clearly have flaws), if it's not the Notorious RBG, bowties win.

It is, however, divisible by 16...which may be another clue. But the real clue, in my opinion, is the power of 16. I think the next big rep title change will be at 65,536. 16^1 == 16 (Noble-Blooded) 16^2 == 256 (Misting) 16^3 == 4,096 (Dawnshard) 16^4 == 65,536 ... (Your guess is as good as any) 16^5 == 1,048,576 ... At this point, though, it's worth nothing that the 2^x system has been broken with 2^14, thus I don't think it's correct. I would have understood if it broke after 2^16...but it didn't. For the 2^x system to be true we would have expected Kobold King to change from God Beyond at 16,384 = 2^14. This obviously didn't happen. I don't know if it's coincidence, but (2^n)*16 has a similar pattern, that also breaks at 16,384 with (2^10)*16. In some instances, the number 10 is important in the Cosmere, but if that were a clue we'd expect it to have broken at (2^11)*16, wouldn't we? Anyway, here is how the (2^x)*16 pattern plays out: (2^1)*16 == 32 (Ardent) (2^2)*16 == 64 (Obligator) (2^3)*16 == 128 (Hazekiller) (2^4)*16 == 256 (Misting) ... (2^9)*16 == 8,192 (The Broken One) (2^10)*16 == 16,384 ... (No Title Change...why?) (2^11)*16 == 32,768 (2^12)*16 == 65,5536 (2^13)*16 == 131,072 (2^14)*16 == 262,144 ...

Leather-bound Edition of Elantris
Titan Arum replied to WeiryWriter's topic in Elantris and Emperor's Soul
Since I'm planning on asking an Elantris-related question in the "Personalization" field on my purchase of the leather bound version, I'll ask my non-book specific question here: Is there a character limit in the "Personalization" field? The question I want to ask currently has 78 characters with spaces. I ask because my question is shown cut short to 50 characters in the "Personalization" field on the check out page. Is this only because the space is limited for the the check out page specifically, or are we actually limited to just 50 characters and Brandon won't see my entire question? -
**Ahem, Mr. Admin Comatose, shouldn't this thread be the "Cosmere Theories" section of the site? Otherwise we're all breaking forum rules by not putting anything behind spoiler tags here in the "General Brandon Discussion" section, no?** Anyway, I'd probably vote for Breath, since we know you don't need to be just on Nalthis to more or less keep yourself alive. However wealth is the limiting factor here. I better be rich too. How do I do that? However, being a Kandra is a close second, because the ability to be anybody while living forever...is tempting. You can choose a new life every generation and really experience the world you live on. Granted, the whole being susceptible to manipulation by outsiders (be they Shards or strong emotional allomancers) is probably why I don't choose the Kandra route.

Technically whale sharks are fish, and they're quite big with an average length of 12.65 meters. But I always imagined Hoid being in the stomach of a Santhid or Chasmfiend. Maybe a Tai-Na? If he was in a stomach on Roshar, it has to be in a Greatshell. However, it could be an animal from any planet, so why not a Dragon on Yolen?

Sad face. So I would've lost my bet if I were a betting man. Brandon better make it over to us East Coasters when he does the tour for Calamity. Last time during the Firefight tour the Boston and Philly dates were cancelled due to snow. And for SoS he barely visited us. Instead he just flew over us to go further east, as if we were Kansas!

Ari, you're making a very strong assumption here given the fact that we know so little. I will not advocate one way or the other on the source of the new metal without new information, but we don't know that the Chimera humans didn't give their consent. They could have easily given consent to become those creatures, especially if they made the autonomous choice on their own for the love/belief in their god. Take for example self-flagellation for adherents of Opus Dei. They make this choice on their own, but they do it for/because of their beliefs.

Bao, it means "drinker of coffee" in Vietnamese, which is what I was doing when I created the name. Ha. And I love Vietnamese coffee. When I lived in Hanoi, I had two or three cups of Vietnamese coffee a day. Mmmmm. Now I need to go to Eden Center in Falls Church.

Lark, you hit the nail on the head for me. Kaladin just feels like a real character. As a result he's super relatable. His depression is real. His manic periods are real and thoroughly enjoyable because you feel like he deserves happiness some of the time. And then, as you say, his depression doesn't limit him. He owns it and accepts it as a part of who is but take a step forward because there is something more in life than just himself: everyone else he cares about. Oh, and Voidus/Ookla the spikey is correct: he gives us The Lopen and Rock! What amazingly fun characters who are basically his new Tiens.
