What did you find? The Reckoners postcards? As far as I am aware, there wasn't a "Steelhunt" associated with Calamity.
-
I like this theory. I wonder if any potential Sadeas heir could be important in the second set of Stomrlight Archive books? Especially if it's about their legacy and future.
-
The Mazalanites can be angry, sure. I agree that Rake and Envy should have easily won that round. But wouldn't they want the duo who beat them to get knocked out as Vin-dication? Also, I agree that we need as many Sharders voting as possible. I have a feeling that given the rather vague title of this thread, many people aren't even opening it? I think we need a new thread about supporting Vin/Elend in the Suvudu match. Edit: yesterday they had a 13% lead...now it's only 6%. With almost a full two days of voting left, Vin/Elend could easily see their lead fall completely.

The Stormlight Archive: A Pocket Companion
Titan Arum replied to Argent's topic in Stormlight Archive
Dang! I wish I were in DC for the East City opening! I'll be in Mobile, Alabama that day and as I've discovered from the Independent Book Day link...there isn't a single one in Alabama (or Hawaii or Wyoming). All other states are represented though. Sigh. -
Ha, true. But if they actually considered the skill sets, I think a match between Vin/Elend vs. Darrow/Sevro would be very interesting. Much more evenly matched than Vin/Elend's current fight.
-
Sevro and Darrow may put up a good fight against Allomancers because they may be like hazekillers. Their primary weapon, a razor, is an "organic impulse" (whatever that means) and like a coiled whip that can be shaped any way they well please. It can be stiffened to be a sword, a scythe, or used as a whip, etc. It's not entirely clear if razors have any metal on them, but they come in any color imaginable. In the first book (Red Rising), Sevro and Darrow are put in a Battle Royale/Hunger Games scenario where they have no weapons and must use their wit and whatever they can find in nature or take from others to win. That kind of training could be extremely useful against Vin and Elend. One last thing: Darrow is basically the "ideal" form of a human with bone density 5x stronger than a normal human and he's close to 7 feet tall. He was "carved" into this ideal form and can take a lot of abuse. He's like a Thug who never runs out of pewter and trained in multiple forms of martial arts. Sevro is smaller, but shifty and sly. They both are extremely intelligent. Probably more so than Elend. Thus...that is the final fight I want to see, because I think it'd be very, very evenly matched.
-
The Howl vs. Sevro/Darrow fight is no better. Suvudu is no longer "predicting" winners in the fights by "showing" a certain duo winning, instead they leave it ambiguous. I think this is even worse writing than when they did show the "fights" to the end because now they write the equivalent of ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. This outcome must be a response to the comments they've been receiving where everyone keeps saying how the writers don't understand the skills/magics/etc. involved.
-
The fight between Vin/Elend and Gimli/Legolas is finally live. Everyone go vote! The write up is...severely lacking. All Vin needs to do is use a duralumin push to disarm Gimli. If she can defeat a full-sized koloss, a strong dwarf should be easier. Also, why does Elend just sit there and laugh? Ridiculous. That is not his personality whatsoever. And then the lack of a result? Sigh.

Great job, as usual! After seeing your landscape version of Kharbranth and this portrait, I'd have to say that you're a very talented artist. I'd still love to see your rendition of the Tai-Na in the Reshi Isles! I imagine it being so colorful in the distance as Rysn's boat approaches. Are you taking new requests?

HA. This will show my age a bit but...when I first saw your post I was thinking about America Online-era dice games and was wondering how I missed that back in the early and mid-90s!

So basically it still comes down to ideal phenotype, as I said, but is according to each Returned's opinion. Nonetheless, it has nothing to do with halting aging. If it is how people "should" look, is there any evidence of reverse aging to reach this ideal phenotype?
-
natc, this isn't entirely correct. Hopefinder Returned as a child and continued to grow/mature once he Returned. Yes, he still looked childish, but he did grow and mature quickly in the first year after he Returned. I think what happens is that the Return simply age to their ideal maturity and ideal phenotype if they Return as children. If a Returned is elderly, however, like Allmother, they still conform to an ideal phenotype, but for that age of maturity. Probably because they cannot reverse age themselves to their younger ideal.

In reality, asking users to vote on these type of things results in a popularity contest. If voters were taking the powers/abilities of the duos seriously, would Legolas and Gimli actually be able to take out Anomander Rake and Lady Envy? Never in their wildest imaginations. They may work well together as a team, but that battle was like asking them to fight Sauron and Gandalf at the same time. They'd lose in a heart beat. Now that they're going up against Vin and Elend...I don't have high hopes for our beloved duo to win. More people know about The Lord of the Rings than Mistborn (though I know we're all doing our own efforts to change this). We need to run a campaign to get ALL active Sharders to vote in this match if we want Vin and Elend to make it to the final (probably against Sevro and Darrow if I were a betting man)! Once the voting is live for this new round, please use this link to select the battles! #TeamVinAndElend

There is a PM for the unpublished books, but to discuss them openly would not be good because people who haven't read them may assume they are canon when they are not. Here are the rules about unpublished books: source
-
I also have a feeling that they don't want people talking about what is in the prose version since it is still unpublished. If they open a forum up to it now, it may get inundated with that type of usage or speculation of how things will differ, which may spoil things for people who have not yet read the unpublished prose version. I'd say that if you want to talk about what may or may not be in the upcoming graphic novel version and you've read the prose version, ask to join the private discussion about White Sand. However...the chat may have hit the ceiling for the number of people who can participate.

So, after reading just the first sentence of that article I can write off the quality of the journalist. Ravager novels? Umm, is this a secret series that Brandon wrote without telling us?! Maybe the person meant Reckoners?
-
I'm glad this thread is here! I was about to create one to let everyone know that Vin and Elend need to win this cage match! I think we have to assume Elend is a Mistborn at this point because the books are already written and it's a fight in 2016. Allomancy, specifically two Mistborn, will easily win a fight like the current match up. They should go far in this bracket!

Sixth of The Dusk and Mistborn (1, 2, 3)
Titan Arum replied to shinigamisid's topic in General Brandon Discussion
There is, but I do not think Kokerlii's abilities work like this because Dusk doesn't have a Breath. Only people from Nalthis have Breath, because it's given to them by Endowment. Thus, I'd see Kokerlii's abilities as more similar to a coppercloud. -
I would have to say that NO, a Kandra could not replicate a chasmfield, based upon a recent WoB at the San Antonio Calamity signing: I'd assume that carapace is pretty similar to exoskeloton (even if Parshendi have internal bones). So if it can't even replicate a man-sized Parshendi, then a chasmfield would be impossible. However, given the recent severe misunderstanding of another WoB from this same signing and the fact that this is not verbatim and from memory...maybe we take this with a grain of salt?

Sixth of The Dusk and Mistborn (1, 2, 3)
Titan Arum replied to shinigamisid's topic in General Brandon Discussion
I asked at the Calamity signing if Kokerlii's power would block an Awakener's life sense, which in my opinion is very similar to a Smoker's use of copper: Now we can put this into the context of your question and a previously RAFO-ed WoB (that Argent asked) about Smoker's and life sense. I believe that we can probably now assume that this would be a "Yes" as well. Also, useful could be Kurkistan's discussion on the Nature of Copper, to apply as further evidence that the Aviar's powers could be similar to metals. I think with this triangulation, there are similarities. -

Kaymyth has the right of it. Another example: Sacramento is the capital of CA. Not LA. Not San Francisco. Part of the reason Washington, DC was made the final capital of the US (Philadelphia and New York were both former capitals) was it's central location to the states at the time. The other reason being they wanted to develop a city that was just the capital. It was more or less built from scratch and planned accordingly (by a French-born American, L'enfant, no less!), with the diagonal state-named roads heading towards the Capitol converging to form circles and squares that were easy to defend in all directions with canon. Now if only DC could get statehood so that my vote matters. Our license plates in DC have a tagline that says "Taxation Without Representation"...eerily similar to the call of the Revolutionaries! I always wondered why Canberra was the capital. Making it neutral ground between two of the biggest cities makes sense. If I were to visit Australia, where should one go assuming they will already go to Sydney and Uluru? I have always wanted to go up to Darwin and the Far North of Queensland to look for Rainbowfish...sort of a hobby of mine.- 10 comments

Are Chulls classified as "GreatShells"
Titan Arum replied to Bryce Carmony's topic in Stormlight Archive
ecohansen gives a good quote there. Most (if not all) of the shelled/crustacean beasts probably have some form of gemheart, but that doesn't make them Greatshells. If chulls were actually Greatshells, it would make more sense to domesticate them to slaughter them for their gemhearts. But it is quite apparent that they are more valuable as domestic beasts of burden, and in fact more valuable than many slaves: From The Way of Kings: Thus, their gemhearts (assuming they have them) probably are not worth harvesting relative to their other uses. If I were a Rosharian biologist, I'd classify crustaceans as "Greatshells" based upon their overall size, their ability to attract special spren (which is probably why they can grow so large), and the economic viability of their gemhearts if harvested (for example, a Tai-na's gemheart may be worth a fortune, but the difficulty of procuring it may be too burdensome given their gigantic size). For example, we know that Chasmfiends gemhearts are very valuable and thus worth the effort to go after: From The Way of Kings According to the coppermind, the following creatures on Roshar are Greatshells: 1) Chasmfiend 2) Tai-na 3) Yu-nerig 4) Lanceryn (possibly extinct) I'd argue that Santhid are probably Greatshells too (and they have special spren around them as well!), but since they are rarely seen and revered by sailors, they probably are not hunted even if they have large gemhearts. -

discussion An interesting WoB on Sel and Threnody
Titan Arum replied to Rasarr's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I know that Peter has been known to Troll us before...but I believe him here. OP, is there a recording of any of this? Is there some confusion about some other question? If Brandon distinctly remembers saying No and you distinctly remember a Yes...then I am distinctly confused. This may be a lesson in don't believe everything until we get a recording that's been transcribe by multiple people to verify what was or wasn't said.
