  1. What if it's more of a biofuel gasoline? I imagine, based upon the yields of crops in The Village, there would be a consistent source of vegetable matter to create biofuel. One can also use ethanol completely in some vehicles as gasoline. I have a feeling, though, that this simply was something he didn't even consider, nor did the beta readers.
  2. This is awesome! Granted, I don't quite understand what it means in the context of what we've seen in previously mentioned long word document. Autonomy seems similar to wanting to just Survive by one's own devices. When I think of a person who's considered a survivalist, they are somebody with absolute autonomy because they don't require the aid of anybody else. Hmmm...is Bavadin our long referenced Survival Shard?
  3. If we assume that the area the Rose Barbarians are indicated as occupying is indeed the Rose Empire, then I wonder about two things: 1) Why didn't Nazh include more details about the Rose Empire? Did he not explore the northern continent much at this time and instead probably came back later when The Emperor's Soul took place? Why would he not explore the northern continent more, since Teod is there and so close? 2) How are the MaiPon and Jindoeese so closely related ethnically? They seem to be separated by a lot of distance on the map. Did the MaiPon/Jindoeese ancestors control a lot more territory before and lose their land to newer ethnic groups over time and thus splinter off into two distinct groups? If so, would that mean that MaiPon people and Jindoeese have the sDNA necessary to become Elantrians if they were to spend time in Arelon, which I'd assume to be part of the former territory of their ancient kingdom?
  4. Yah, according to Peter, I gave him an "out" with my question. Thus he could avoid it and write "Nothing!". My question was "What can you tell us about the Terriswoman Worldhopper that we don't already know?" This leads me to speculate that either he really means RAFO or that we will never see of her again so there is no new information needed. I doubt it's the latter and think he really means the former. I have book #1311.
  5. If he can't Worldhop, then imagine the logistical nightmare he must go through on any given planet to gather the information he requires. Especially to make maps. He must have some way of traveling around a planet quickly, no? Unless someone who can Worldhop is teamed up with him always (which seems very inefficient), as would then better explain... 6. Today I received my copy of Shadows of Self from Weller Book Works. I bought a signed and "personalized" book, which Brandon's answer was simply "Nothing!", not even a RAFO! I think I will wait until tomorrow to begin reading when I get my e-book version. This one will remain on my shelf.
  7. When you refer to yourself as an "Airsick Lowlander" after coming down with altitude sickness while climbing your first 14er.
  8. Super jealous that you nobles get to read Brandon's books before us skaa! But I'm sure it's tearing you guys up inside that you can't theorize with the rest of us. At least I want to believe that, because those of you in the early know are probably theorizing together anyway! Thanks for the write-up Chaos! i can't wait to read this book.
  9. I have a close relationship with the geographers at USAID. They are a fun bunch. I love the maps they make to help out with international aid and development. My dream job is to be a USAID Foreign Service Officer. And I'm closer than ever to actually see my dream come true! Five months back I received a preliminary employment offer, contingent upon a few outstanding things. Hopefully these outstanding items are accomplished over the next few months!
  10. Not a meme, but a bad joke instead! Source for the joke: Emerald101 Source for the image: The Oatmeal
  11. Ari, could you use spoiler tags when talking about works that aren't published? Or better yet, don't bring them up. We're not allowed to talk about White Sand in the public forums thus we probably aren't allowed to talk about Liar of Partinel. You may have read a copy already, but for those of us who haven't, I'd rather not be spoiled by anything in it. Especially since it pertains to Hoid. Thanks!
  12. Thank you for taking me on a trip back in time! That was a fun read, Shardlet. So many downvotes! I'm still curious about the actual user named Zucchini that was the inspiration for -100 and beyond to be given the rep level name of "Zucchini". Is their a link anywhere to the posts where this person legitimately angered so many?
  13. The Only Joe, as far as I can tell, you're good. The major specification is that even with a one line post, your entire sig does not go beyond your left side bar information (i.e. past your reputation designation). Your post above proves that even with your one line of text, your sig falls within this allowable range. In particular, your two images are 154 x 90 and 200 x 45 respectively. What really matters is the summation of the width: 154+200=354 pixels wide. The vertical is determined by the 90 pixels of the "Have You Heard" image, because this trumps the 45 pixels in the coppermind image. So, your total pixel count for your two combined images is roughly 354 x 90, well within the 500 x 100 limit. [Edit: 'd by Rubix]
  14. Good job at being observant about the Cosmere! I too have wondered about the flute and thought it may be the same thing, but there is no indication that it is the same flute. There isn't any WoB that I know of connecting the two flutes; in fact, every time someone asks about the Trailman flute, Brandon gives a RAFO or says that Hoid wants it back. Also, this isn't the only flute that we've seen in SA. Amaram also had a few flutes.
  15. Slowswift, you're at exactly 500x100. So technically you fall within the new guidelines. If you want to check how many pixels your sig takes up, simply right click the image and choose "Inspect Element". From that you'll see a colored box that contains "margin", "border", "padding", and your actual image in the middle with numbers. These numbers will represent your pixel count.
  16. See, if I were you I'd read them anyway. Even if you want to read them one after the other, you could still read WoK and WoR now and a few months before SA3 comes out re-read the first two. I find that every time I re-read the first two I find more and more information that I missed the first time around. The beautiful thing about Brandon's books are that they are not only a mile deep, but they're a mile wide also. I'm now on my third re-read of WoK and I am STILL finding new things that I missed the first two times. Even if we have to wait a few years in between books, re-reading the ones already out is quite rewarding. Oh, and Brandon ISN'T GRRM. He writes books at a predictable frequency and usually only a few years apart. So, you don't really have to wait too long. (And when we do wait, we get other Cosmere books...like a few Mistborn books, short stories, etc.)
  17. Ha, so when I saw your thread title the first thing I thought of was the "old reptile", since you capitalized "Frost". Admittedly, that's what got me to click, since I was so confused how Frost could manipulate glyphs. I'm glad it wasn't what I thought it was.
  18. As an administrative question, as it doesn't pertain to me, if a person has a link to Sanderson Elimination (scores or otherwise), is that still ok or should all aspects of Sanderson Elimination in a sig be taken out?
  19. When you wish you knew how to sew so that you could make your dog an axehound cosplay costume. Instead he always seems to cosplay as TenSoon. He's so unoriginal.
  20. Congrats! I guess that's why my friend posted this pic (he's on the far right) yesterday on FB with the caption of "Just hanging out with the Prime Minister":
  21. This is great! I take it the eye spikes are see-through? Can you take a close up pic of just the eye spikes (i.e. no need to wear them in the close up if you don't want to)? I'd love to see how you did that.
  22. ...I wouldn't be surprised if Winter Cloud's sig was one of the main culprits for this rule change. Her sig takes up an entire screen for a one line post. While I respect and like Winter Cloud, that sig is just a tad intense and noisy.
  23. Blaze, technically yours is 205x80. You are golden! Mine, on the other hand is 700x122 which means I need to trim the sides and top a bit. Off to do that now...
  24. With my mother and coworkers, I simply said they should read Mistborn because it's a story unlike any they have read before with amazing world-building and a very innovative and novel magic system. Granted, I start with people who at least appreciate fantasy. I then lend them my copy of the Mistborn trilogy. To date this has worked with everyone who I've actually physically given a copy of on of Brandon's books to. Two weeks ago my mother finished reading all of Brandon's Cosmere books...in less than three months. She loved them and told me that she hasn't read anything so fascinating in years. I saw her a week ago and all she wanted to talk about were theories related to the Cosmere. She caught on to Hoid very quickly and asked me if some other characters, who are known worldhoppers, were who she thought they were. Now I'm lobbying her to join the 17th Shard.

This is pretty cool but I have one point of criticism: where's the cravat?! He doesn't wear a tie, he wears a cravat!
