  1. Taking the Dawnshard, known to bind any creature voidish or mortal, he crawled up the steps crafted for Heralds, ten strides tall apiece, toward the grand temple above. ” — From the Poem of Ista. I have found no modern explanation of what these "Dawnshards" are. They seem ignored by scholars, though talk of them was obviously prevalent among those recording the early mythologies[1]
  2. I hope someone remembered to unchain them.... Or more hilariously Plamry is a Kandra and disappeared shortly after (the name sure sounds like Palm and might be a very sly hint). Why did Brandon need to keep them? Maybe to show the Sleepless had compassion for innocent people sort of?
  3. Well the Sleepless forbade Rysn from making a spren bond, so Dalinar being an Bondsmith and a Command-Holder might be their worst-case scenario. Though it is possible that Bind is less destructive than Change, and that Change is the one they are most worried about.
  4. I’ve always wanted people to pay more attention to the glowing gold words in that Jasnah/Dalinar scene but no one has ever felt as strongly as I did! I feel so vindicated! I’m not entirely sure if it fits, but Dalinar says he felt something similar as a child when he was playing with Gavilar in his bedroom. I’ve always wondered what thats about too...
  5. One thing is that these are Commands and not Shards, so the naming conventions need to be different. Passion doesn’t work as that term isn’t a command. These titles need to be more like verbs. Bind/Unite works Change works Passion is not a command/verb and neither is survival. We could say Feel and Survive maybe, that those done feel basic enough for my tastes.
  6. Oh no... I don’t want a Hoid vs Rysn showdown. What happens if Hoid finds out about her? The Sleepless were able to “see” that Rysn was a Dawnshard (with some squinting), so is it possible Hoid could detect her as well?
  7. Makes you wonder, right? What do other forms of investiture grant as passive boons? Did Rysn get any other tweeks related to Cultivation or the other two shards she represents. Or can Cultivarion investiture somehow grant heightenings?
  8. It has to be a command though, so something like Unite or Bind.
  9. We have Dawnshards, Dawnsingers, Dawnchant, and Dawncities. Are these all related terms revealing a connection or is etymology simply a coincidence? Is Roshar connected to the Dawnshards in a unique way? Did all or most of the Dawnshards make their way to this planet at one point? Maybe the Dawnshards were even from here originally and someone brought them to Yolen? What’s the timeline on how one got to Ashyn (Ayshen then Roshar or Roshar then Ashyn since we have Dawnsingers on Roshar). Two things thing to note: 1) Honour said he thought the war might be lost because the humans had lost the Dawnshards (plural). 2) Melishi used the Dawnshard known to bind (not change) EDIT: I thought we had a WOB on this that this refers to Melishi, but I think I might be misremembering. So what gives? What was up with the Dawnsingers? How many of these has Roshar seen before and after the shattering?
  10. Sorry, but they already confirmed they are doing an entire episode on What Is What Is
  11. I think Dalinar getting to bond the stormfather is completely separate from him getting “something” from the way of kings since the stormfather knows nothing about the other voice/vision Dalinar gets sometimes. Rysn seems to have gotten the command all at once, while Dalinar seems to be getting his more through bits and pieces (likely related to the fact that Odium thought that this command was “killed”)
  12. I think it is pretty clear that there were at least two Dawnshards in the system as at one point Honour said “without the dawnshardS” I seems like Nohadon likely held it at one point as his cognitive aspect seems to not fully be dead. Then we know Meleeshi used a Dawnshard to BIND which does not seem in-line with CHANGE. It seems Honour thought BIND/UNITE to be lost, but that Honour was not 100% correct and that Dalinar is being fed the Dawnshard through the Way of Kings; remember him seeing words that glow with warmth and Jasnah dictated the book at the day of Gavilars funeral? Somehow a Dawnshard thought “dead” is being revived and Dalinar is assesinding to it.
  13. I also think Nohadon held UNiTE as he seems to be lingering in a strange way. It makes sense that there are two Dawnshards on the Roshar system and Honour talks about the Dawnshard in a plural, and Meleeshi used a Dawnshard known to bind anything (CHANGE does not seem to be the same as BIND/UNITE).
  14. I’m fairly sure Dalinar holds at least part of UNITE or BIND.I think he might be getting bits of it via Nohadon (when Jasnah reads the way of Kings at her father’s funeral day, Dalinar was seeing the words glow in a similar way). And also, Nohadon is clearly not fully dead for some reason... Theory: Odium thought they had killed the BIND/UNITE command and Honour thought it lost as well; however, it can be united somehow and Dalinar is ascending to it. It is not unreasonable to assume at least two Dawnshards on Roshar as Honour says “without the DawnshardS”
  15. Actually there being two makes a lot of sense. You have the hidden one on Amia and then there was one that exploded somehow on Ashyn. Doesn’t Honour talk about Dawnshards in the plural?
  16. The Sleepless said only a god could properly wield it, but maybe 4 people could sort of combine to wield one of them.
  17. He did die! Maybe he did it for a reason, but that reason ended up shattering him I’ve always believed that honour’s death was a suicide for a glorious reason (or possibly he asked cultivation to lay the final blow).
  18. You don’t think Unite is clearly a Command? Dalinar sees glowing words when he hears the way of kings being read by Jasnah. Odium may have thought he had killed a Dawnshard at some point. Unite Dominion Honour Devotion Preservation.
  19. Seems like it was completely hidden. Or Honour lied (shocker!)
  20. I wonder if Rysn now had some passive benefits of 4 shard investiture? She notices Endiwnment, but I wonder what else might be in there (or maybe all 4 shards in that team can grant that somehow). I am thinking the team is based in the “Accept it Know it CHANGE”, so Endowment - change through gift Cultivation - change through grown Ambition - change through will Maybe Ruin? - Change through time? Dalinar had also seen words that glow and give off light. Is Unite one of the Dawnshards (maybe a splintered one Odium thought he destroyed or Unmade?) Honour Dominion Devotion Preservation?
  21. Lestibournes is Restares.
  22. Could explain why he is so much less concerned with the dark-eyes lover thing. Wait, what if SHE was Thaidokar? Could explain a bit of her appeal (even though she seems appealing enough already). If it is one of them it might as well be either of them.
  23. ..... I get that depression is important to the story, but i just don't enjoy reading people being depressed all day long. Kal's arc has stopped being interesting and has moved onto the point where I just don't care. It isn't even an arc anymore. Its just staying sad as the plot moves around him. Every page is just mawkish emo mopiness, and while i am sympathetic, it just isn't compelling. I lived with someone who had depression for years, and after a few years of co-suffering you just sort of need to move on with your own life because trying to help them just isn't a rational use of time. I feel for Syl, but in a "this isn't yours to fix" sort of way. Everyone has dark days, and we should be there for them, but you cant be there for someone having dark years. I can handle Shallan, but do I want another 1000 pages of her maybe trying to maybe make progress? I just don't care. Id rather have them die off so we can focus on other people at this point (and I love Shallan!). There are so many more interesting people, and I think the book needs to let them go or let them heal. Being stuck in the middle for 3000 pages is getting old. Depression and mental illness are really important, but this depiction of them is not making for entertaining reading(which may be the point, but man is that thoroughly annoying point to make for 3000+ pages)
