  1. I was imagining a red fog Aether nebula type thing in Space/PR, but figured it was the glow of actual/normal stars that was seen as red on other worlds because it's getting filtered through the red cloud.
  2. Maybe, though Aethers as a concept is something that predates the Cosmere and is something he's been trying to find ways to work in all along, and I think he's always talked about them as canon even if the Aethers of Night story isnt (much like the Sho Dal). So it wouldn't surprise me if he seeded a few potential hooks in the setting that could work for Aethers, but could also easily be repurposed for other Shards as they develop.
  3. Mundane possibility: Its a Nebula, and a cool astronomic detail but not necessarily something Magic or Investiture related. Shardic Possibility: Shards have Shattered other Shards. They first attacked Ambition and tore chunks of her Power off int he spaces between planet, and ultimately Shattered Ambition. Next they went to Sel, and this time they decided it was safer to spend effort to shove as much of the Shard's power as they could into the Cognitive Realm, hoping it would prevent the Power from waking up on it's own (which makes me curious about Ambition's Torn chunks) and created the Dor. I think the Scar could be either leftover from Ambition's fall which left Realmic wounds, or it could be a 3rd attempt where they shoved the Investiture into the Physical Realm instead of the Cognitive. Other: It's a Crimson Aether living in an Ice Nebula.
  4. Welcome to the Shard! Yeah, that thing you read was simply wrong (See the WOB below). The magic systems arise from complex and poorly understood interactions between the Shard, the Planet, and its population. Since Ruin and Preservation are still both present on the planet and just happen to be held by the same dude, the magic system itself doesnt get overly disrupted (though Harmony did make a few conscious changes). As far as how Ruin's magic works everywhere, All the 16 shards technically have some amount of presence everywhere they are reflected, which really means everywhere in the cosmere. The previously Mortal vessel that holds them, on the other hand, are a little more limited in what they can actually perceive and channel and are generally only watching the happenings of their Invested world. It's also worth noting that several magics are reflections of Pre-shattering Magic systems. Metal being significant cosmere-wide is one of those things, and I would not be surprised to learn that some version of Hemalurgy existed before Ruin (and Scadrial) were created.
  5. It can be defined within Euclidean space, sure. My point was that within a non-Euclidean, spherical coordinate system, the ocean could arguably be considered "Contained" within a hypothetical bowl of landmass and seabed, but only because terms like Up and Down and Inside and Outside all get different, more local definitions relative to the spherical center. By the terms as defined within a normal Euclidean framework, the ocean is entirely outside the Earth and not contained by it Bowl Style in any way I can see.
  6. Euclidian Geometry is defined by its infinite parallel grid coordinate system, compared to a Geocentric spherical one where Down is toward the center of the sphere. But beyond that sematic, I agree. The Ocean (which is Soup, I think we all agree) is not contained by the Earth, it contains the Earth and is contained by the Sky. That's a whole other primordial entity...
  7. Come on, I followed Rule #1 and everything! I posit that the Ocean is a Soup with continental croutons but no container.
  8. I want to say the Era2 ones we saw seemed to all be charged by Touch and Intent, in line with Metalmind rules. Then per this WOB will likely have the same range as the original Power, but it also says that is likely to be a point of technologic advancement for the Metallic Arts moving forward.
  9. The ocean is full of Meat and Vegi's (also water and salt) and is therefore a Soup. Agreed. Specifically it is a Bullion by the French classifications of soup, since it is a clear, unthickened soup. Thus the Earth is a Bowl Only in a non-Euclidean Geocentric frame. Bowls are Containers, but the Ocean is one of the the outer layers that wraps around the Earth, not contained "In" it. Since the gaseous atmosphere is more appropriately the outerwear of the Planet, the Ocean is Earth's wet underwear. Or runny pastry glaze, if we are sticking to food metaphors. In a Geocentric where coordinate system Up = Outward and Down = Centerward, then the continents are the Bowl walls that "contain" the soup. But since continents are cover less surface than the oceans and never actually surround any of the oceans, they still dont qualify as a "bowl" container. They are sponges that are mopping up the soup.
  10. Im convinced that Invention cant be found because they went "Periscope Down" into their workshop, whatever form that may take, and is off Building something that they think will help in the coming Conflict Harmony contacted them about. I further think this will be a Planetary device, just like when Adonalsium created Roshar for whatever reason (a Realmic Pressure Regulator, at the very least). I think Mercy is the Anti-Honor. WOB says "Honor is the sense of being bound by rules, even when those rules, you wouldn't have to be bound by." Mercy is choosing to disregard those same societal Bonds. Thematically that is something we default to calling a Good thing, but like Passion/Hate/Odium, it's really only "Good" when applied in moderation and balanced by other considerations.
  11. My work migrated me over to it a couple weeks ago. So far it's no better, no worse, for me. I dont notice a significant decrease in my ability to customize the install. But to be fair you might indeed be crazy, Customization hasnt felt like it was present in Microsoft since the late 90's and barely even then; in fact that was the main motivation I've heard from those that jumped to Linux over the years. Linux was the customizable one, Windows could "work" out of the box without all that effort. My Kingdom for a modern 64-bit version of Windows XP.
  12. Agreed, though she was a nascent Bondsmith at that point which might have been providing a key realmic bridge that the average Human doesnt have. Rock's Singer plus Sighted heritage could probably do the same, especially if he has a vestigial Gemheart (which has been RAFO'd, but I think could be what makes him Sighted).
  13. The actual/original vessel is named Bavadin, and she still holds the Shard itself. There are two flavors of avatar that she makes, but they are both still Connected to the main Autonomy. That's their Irony, they arent truly Autonomous. They are instead Connected to the real Autonomy and Empowered by her. They are a little like how somebody can take up the Well and get Shard-like powers without actually taking the Shard itself from it's Vessel. from the Coppermind:
  14. WOb confirms draining Color from a material will cause a physical/chemcial change to make it happen, to the point where it could be used to force such reactions. If so, it can probably transmute Gold, Copper, and any other colored metals into something wholly different.
  15. It's a Cognitive metal and it operates with physical range limitations, so it's likely a Cognitive function. I think either it dampens Investiture "signals", whatever is that these senses are detecting. Or it is somehow affecting Perception itself in the AoE, blocking the detection of a phenomena rather than affecting the phenomena itself. EDIT: Those are more or less the classic brands of Invisibility: either its a "real" Hologram light-manipulation thing, or it's something that makes the people not able to see and/or notice a thing.
  16. This is just a sidenote: but Im convinced there are now "slots" (for lack of a better word) for a total of Six Bondsmiths, now that Odium is properly Invested. One per Pure Light, and one per theoretical Hybrid Light.
  17. Also Windrunners have the "connection Surge" that the fused lack. I suspect successfully UnMaking the Sibling would have created the tenth option, the Godspren/Bondsmith analog for the UnMade. Though by the same token I suspect there's an Everstorm spren that could play that part too.
  18. Devil's Advocate Statement (just to get it out of the way):The Essences do correspond 1:1 to the Heralds and Orders, and we have WOB that the unmade do not correlate 1:1 to either of those. But to be fair one says they arent correlated to heralds, and another kinda says they do.
  19. I dont think that's necessarily the case, based on the example of Leras (which admittedly is one datapoint and he was crazy). He had his "mind" (whatever portion of his consciousness/experience that may be) dedicated to the prison but his Power was still being held (enough that the Ire couldnt try to steal it until he actually passed) and doing its job for the planet per that WOB. That still left enough of a coherent mind for a basic mist-ghost manifestation and mortal-level communication, etc. In the hypothetical Iriali shard's case, I'd assume they have some portion of the mind that has to maintain the whole thing (or outsource that to a custom godspren equivalent), then the main is left Vessel otherwise mostly comatose on some lightly invested world while their attention is spread out over all the Iriali ride-alongs. It should be less taxing than what Leras had to do because it's (presumably) unopposed by any other shards, so they might not go crazy (or might have predicted it would take 8+ worlds to go crazy and set the limit at 7). And it's more or less what the Dysians do/experience, so it should not be beyond the reach of an expanded shard mind.
  20. I like it, overall, but I have one hang-up: Midnight Essence is not (exclusively?) a Rosharan thing, which makes me think some of the UnMade came from off-world (or their raw material did). But thats nothing more than a feeling, Im sure there are ways around it. Do you have any theories on how a spren-based Unmade gained access to what seems to be an offworld
  21. True, though in the sense that all 16 shards have a presence everywhere in the Cosmere, as compared to a real Inveisture cache like a legacy Shardpool from pre-shattering time or whatever pre-shattering Investitures we've seen on unInvested minor shardworlds. Im still not clear on the level and nature of Connection between Bavadin the Vessel and the Avatars. Both are empowered by Autonomous Investiture, but I think it comes down to them being empowered Subordinates, and by having multiple Separate Cognitive Aspects all Connected to the Shards Power let them share the Cognitive load, letting them tap more of the Shard's Infinity than a single finite vessel can do alone.
  22. Ah, that's right, thanks. I had forgotten they capitulated by choice, I thought they were just another conquered nation.
  23. When did that happen? I dont recall any coordinated movement by the Irali in present day, let alone an alliance with any group of modern Singers.
  24. I dont think that would be an issue, or at least not THE issue. This wouldnt be a Splintering of the Power of the Shard, making spren or whatever, it would be Shattering the Mind of the Shard, so it could go on a ride-along with the population. As Preservation showed us, these are different things to the Shard experience, one can be protecting a world while the other does something else entirely. The Power could still be waiting and Invested in the 7th world or where-ever, while the Mind could be Splintered into the population.
  25. How did "The One and Only Lightweaver" become "Lightweaver2"?
