  1. When a person uses a magic system (besides awakening) they aren't using the investiture that they are made up of, but other sources of investiture.
  2. My guess for who is going to be a dustbringer is actually Moash. The end of WoR sets him up to be a viewpoint character.
  3. I remember seeing the confirmation as well, it was within the past month or two.
  4. I really like how Brandon did the Lord Ruler's death. Right before he dies and tasks about how they are all screwed it created a very ominous and dreary feel and I think it fit the books very well.
  5. Then why would Hoid still refeel to Bavadin as if he were relevant during stormlight era?
  6. Then went wouldHoid refer to Bavadin as if he was still relevant?
  7. If you go to the Oddesey Con event thread my report is on the first page. It's in there somewhere.
  8. Actually, reading it again, it seems more so like Brandon was implying that with diffrent vessels they could have possibly been something similar to opposites. Brandon had said before that Ruin and Preservation were attracted to each other because they are opposites. The wording, however, proves my point. Apperently the personalities of these shards have stopped this from happening.
  9. Here you go. INTERVIEW: Feb 17th, 2016 Calamity-Seattle QUESTION What Shard is the opposite of Odium in the sense of the [board? Borg?] BRANDON SANDERSON There are several that could be considered opposite-- QUESTION I mean in the assimilation sense, you’ve said that Odium doesn’t want to absorb any of the other ones but which one would want to? BRANDON SANDERSON Oh, which one would want to join with him? QUESTION Or any of them. BRANDON SANDERSON *pause* I think that *long pause/picks up after next question* I think that if personalities had been different, Honor and Odium, there would have been a very natural pairing, not that they’re opposites but they would have attracted. TAGS Odium, Honor, shards
  10. Thathe depends on how they both have interpreted the intent of their powers. The thing that gives me pause to this, however, is Brandon has said that Honor and Odium could go well together. We'lll see what happened eventually, I guess.
  11. Can I see that WoB? The only one similar to that I have seen was Brandon saying that Sky breakers using gravitation to fly will look very similar. That definitly does not mean that all surges for all orders work nearly the same. I do agree that either way, his surges won't give him extraordinary fighting capabilities, but his shardblade and plate, as well as stormlight probably will give him a big advantage in fights.
  12. Ruin was only able to be trapped because he was a perfect opposite to Preservation. There is a WoB saying that Ruin wasn't technically trapped, but was made impotent because the power of Preservation could block out whatever he did perfectly. I don't think this could happen with Honor and Odium, not only for the reasons above, but also because Honor is splintered, and Odium definitly was not powerless or trapped during the times when Honor want splintered.
  13. I like this theory. There are a few things that I want to add , however. I think that Kinetic investiture works on a fuel system, where it is possible to run out because the investiture is pushed out of the soul and into whatever force or person you are manipulating for the magic. Based on this model, I think that holding Stormlight is kinetic because it works in a fuel system. This is supported by the fact that Feruchemical gold is also kinetic (based on this theory) and works in much the same way. Same goes for Elantrian's and their healing factor.
  14. Feruchemical electrum and zinc. Increased intelligence and determination just seem the most apt for today's society. It also helps that they aren't obvious to the naked eye and could be kept secret well.
  15. Adding to this, I've seen a WoB that says a very little amount of investiture is used in Soulforgery. My latest thoughts on Soulforgery is that it is basicly soul casting without using investiture. When someone soulcasts they basicly create a new spirit web for an object and then pump investiture into it, which causes the new soul to override the old one. When someone should forges an object, because it has such a little amount of investiture running through it, they can only make small tweaks that only last if the old soul recognizes the new part of the soul as less abrasive, or as abrasive as the old connections. This is achieved by making the new connection as similar or as likely as the old one.
  16. I find this unlikely mainly due to the fact that the Plate is still around. If they are able to form their own plate then I would assume when the Knights abandoned their oaths that either they would have become the plate, which doesn't really make sense. It would also seem to need them to create a very invested object out of thin air, which violates conservation of Investiture. I don't think their increased presence within the cognitive realm is what gives them the Surges. Brandon has confirmed that Radiants gain Connections within the spiritual realm that normal humans don't have, and they would seem to be made within the extra space in a spirit web that 'snapping' creates, which seems to suggest that this is how they get their magic, as being snapped is a prerequisite for a Nahel Bond. Some evidence for this is that Allomancers don seem to be any closer to the Cognitive realm, but are similarly invested and can also manipulate forces. I think that a Radiant's increased existance in the Cognitive Realm will manifest itself in them being able to pull themselves into the cognitive realm at will. We have already seen example of a Nahel bond being able to pull beings through the different realms, the example being Shardblades, so I think it works in a similar fashion for the human counterpart. This is supported by when Kaladin seemingly glimpsed the Cognitive realm while flying throughout the chasms.
  17. Agreed. The situations we see him do particularly poorly in combat had to do with him thinking he was insane because of the screaming shardblade. I doubt he will become a warrior in the following books, but he will likely still be dangerous as all hell. The kid is brave though.
  18. You may be right, someone should ask him. I would also like to point out that corrupted breath isn't neccesarily unusable as far as we know. Brandon told me that or ruled investiture, or what people perceive as corrupted investiture, usually indicates a mixture of different shardic investitures. Take that as you will.
  19. I'm pretty sure he seems to ignore Conservation of Investiture. Nightblood really is strange. INTERVIEW: Dec 12th, 2015 Barnes & Noble Orem So, is Nightblood reducing the amount of Investiture in the cosmere? BRANDON SANDERSON Yes. At a very slow rate, but yes. TAGS Nightblood, investiture, cosmere,
  20. I'm positive that Autonomy is either working for or against Odium. It just makes sense that Odium would need an ally to be able to take down two Shards, especially with his current fear of Harmony. It doesn't make sense that he would go after two shards on his own, especially that early on. This coupled with Hoid having a serious grudge against them two and them two alone convinces me that this is the case. It would also be some grade A irony if Autonomy was the one to be working with Odium.
  21. INTERVIEW: Mar 22nd, 2014 WoR Signing Report - Argent (Verbatim) QUESTION Is there a way to tell between different Investitures? BRANDON SANDERSON [brandon misunderstood the question a little in the beginning - he thought the question was "can every Shard's magic detect other Investitures?"] Most of the magics have built into them that ability, but I wouldn't say that everyone does. I am trying to remember if all of them have... I lot of them have a power that would allow you to do that, but I don't know if every one of them does. QUESTION [Clarification] BRANDON SANDERSON If you were really good at burning bronze, you could distinguish between different types of Investiture from different planets even. And that sort of skill does exist in other magic systems. ARGENT Is it like a wavelength kind of thing? BRANDON SANDERSON Yea, that's exactly what it is. TAGS investiture, This WoB from Argent seems to indicate, to me at least, that all investiture gives off some kind of wavelength. I think that that the Listener's spiritual physiology has allowed them to tap into a strange pool of investiture (or something like this, I don't really know) that can relay emotion to one another by feeling the other tap into a rhyth, similar to how a seeker can when burning Bronze. Some support for this theory is found in Secret History .
  22. I just want to point out that we have confirmation that Hoid does have a spirit web, but a very strange one. That's about all we know. Another thing, not all Shardblades completely destroy investiture, but rather they cut chunks out of a spirit web proportional to the spots they hit on the being's body. The only Shardblade that can actually completely destroy investiture is Nightblood.
  23. I was a skeptic on your theory at first, but looking at various WoBs I warmed up to it. Thanks for the compliment!
  24. The mists are a phenomenon similar to highstorms, both of which are seperate from Perpendicularities.
