  1. There's a WoB hanging around somewhere (can't find it on mobile at the moment) having to do with the transformation. Basically, there is an element of will to it. Eshonai had to be willing to swap, and it was too late for her to change her mind about it when she did. For Parshmen, it said that if there was just a pane of glass or something separating them and they wanted to change in the Everstorm, they would. However, if they aggressively did not want to transform, there is an argument to be made whether or not they would, regardless of if they were outside in the storm.
  2. I know there isn't one, but if you could hack the system and get a compound of both charges, then you might be able to con the system again and store that combo charge. The space efficiency comment was aimed at the idea that if you could store double attribute in one Metalmind, a full Feruchemist would not need to carry 1 for each Metal, thus being more space efficient with their "luggage" I realize that Metalminds are capped in their own personal storage space.
  3. Magicpunk? Not sure if I should feel hopeful or worried. As for AonDor, this section will be of great interest to me. A lot of my more practical applications (several were based on my guesses about what certain Aons did) would require some aspect of programs like time delays, on/off switches and setting size/space limits to effects. I'll wait for the transcript to see what is fully official, but since you could make a whole programming language from it, I feel many of my ideas could be confirmed by process of experimentation now. People could probably create an Aonic Subreddit in r/ProgrammingHorror from the trial and error involved in making the language.
  4. @8bitBob Theoryland lets you search by keyword as well as by tags. So you can find entirely disconnected topics that use the word and might be important to what your searching for. Fair warning that it searches exact words, so we can't shortcut it by searching compound. @Djarskublar I feel like it will give you both, but I feel like you won't be able to separate the two. Much like Ruin and Preservation are now Harmony, I feel like Speed and Weight at once would be a combined attribute. Whichever metal you need to store that, I feel that it would store speed and weight together. It wouldn't be as game breaking as it sounds, since you can't tap the two aspects separately at that point, so what it gains in space efficiency it loses in practicality of use.
  5. @Kaladin Zahel I like the 3 Shard Pairs idea, since it's different than what we're used to. I have an idea for the Autonomy, Dominion and ?? Trio, though it may disagree with your 2:1 positive:negative ratio. The ?? Is the shard in the middle. Odium is an antonym of Honor and Devotion, while the two are not the same. Ruin is an antonym of Preservation and Cultivation while the two are not the same. Autonomy and Dominion are not the same, so perhaps there is something that is an antonym of both words.
  6. Investiture resides within the spiritual realm, where location does not matter. So the sun cannot be a "source of Investiture" because that is not how Investiture works, IIRC. If you or somebody else has something definitive that about the sun, feel free to tell me. But the biggest issues with the sun being a source is that Darksiders have their own unique abilities and if they don't get Investiture from the sun, where do they get it from? On mobile so I cannot get WoB's with any real speed. Here they are now. 1) Breath Transfer does require color. We have WoB that it uses your own color. 2) I suppose you could make this argument. I will say that the Heightenings are chosen because they give bonuses that top out at discrete values. 3) Why do you believe there is a "photon in each persons soul"? 4) Physical contact is not always required. The 9th Heightening gives Audible Command, allowing for people to awaken without physical contact. It stands to reason that they can transfer the breath from the awakened object back to them self via voice command too. 5) How do you consider the difference between a "catalyst" and a "focus"? Mobile quoting is garbage, so This is for Sel and your "ground based evidence" 1) Per the AU Essay summary "At some point in human pre-history, the shards were Splintered and trapped in the Cognitive Realm." thus: The Dor was created by Odium. He was the one who splintered D&D and shoved them into the Cognitive Realm. (Still searching for a WoB that states this as a direct sentence, but this is good enough for now.) 2) Text: Shu-Keseg, and subsequently Shu-Dereth and Shu-Korath do not predate the splintering of D&D, so they have no relevance to magic of pre-splintering times. The light and power of the Dor exploded from the Aon, just as it does for every other Aon. The fact that the Aon was drawn on the ground does not equate to "Dor coming from the ground itself" The glowing lines of the Aons are energy of the Dor, so it should hold true no matter what orientation or medium the Aon is. I’ve established several times in the book that the medium an Elantrian draws in–whether it be mud, the air, or in this case dirt–doesn’t matter. The form of the Aon is the important part. By putting a line in the proper place, Raoden creates a gate that allows the Dor to flow into Elantris and resume its intended purpose. 3) Brandon: I can counter your argument about the strength of Aons away from home base compared to ChayShan by adding an additional example because you brought up the "there is only one magic system" WoB. Dakhor. We have one system. One based on Forms: the form of the Aon, shape of the movements, pattern of the Soulstamp, the shape of the Bones, they all fit. AonDor uses the Dor(obviously), Forgery uses the Dor, Dakhor uses the Dor, thus ChayShan also uses the Dor.(Shuden even glows, what more proof is needed at that point?) Following the precedent, Soulstamps only really work in MaiPon, just like Aons and Elantris. Is Dakhor or ChayShan weaker away from home? We don't know, but it stands to reason that they would be because they are all of the same system. Aons are based on the shape of Arelon, Soulstamps are of MaiPon, Dakhor bones are old Fjordish characters[6], which (given the similarity to Aons being a language too) likely resemble some aspect of Fjordell. Is it a stretch to assume that ChayShan movements are a visual representation of the land of JinDo in some way? 4) Khriss: Given that Shards are Investiture and that the Dor is the Investiture of Shards, I think that either Khriss is oversimplifying the difference between the Dor and Investiture or you/we are interpreting what she is saying differently than what she meant. 5) Life absorbs the Dor: I'm not entirely sure I get what you are saying, but your argument that the Investiture permeates everything to the point of being part of the system seems like it could be used for Roshar as well. Secondly, John203 is exactly right that only Elantrians are able to draw Aons. Everyone else may carve, paint or otherwise jot them down, but they are incapable of drawing real Aons, regardless of whether or not they draw them right. Elantrians also have to want to draw the Aon (Intent) or else they are merely waving their finger around like anybody else. (I'd have to reread the chapter, but there is a reference[28] to ChayShan having the same restriction on who can use the magic, in this case bloodline and/or Intent) Thirdly, the misdrawn Aon Rao is not what prevented Raoden from drawing functional Aons. The lack of a chasm line was the only restriction. There are multiple examples of Raoden drawing functional Aons before fixing the city. In Chapter 49 he draws a functioning fire Aon. In Chapter 55 he draws Aon Nae to study the palace grounds, and his Aon Shao disguise was in place from Chap 49 until Dilaf broke it in Chapter 56. 6) Motion: ChayShan isn't different, it requires the strict forms just like all the others. It merely repeats them over and over as the forms are not drawn in any permanent way, he draws them with his movements. (I feel like this is why it appears so powerful, as it is somewhat like multiple of the same Aon rather than just one) As for requiring movement, there are a few "pseudo" counter examples. Aons drawn into plates. They needed movement once, but now all they need is touch and they work. You could still consider the acting of touching the plate as movement, so that's semantics.
  7. Szeth did a half lashing to a table in WoK I-9. It made the table weightless as half of its weight was pulled up. He pointed that fact out as it let him kick said table at a Shardbearer with little effort. I also believe he does a quarter lashing to himself in that same chapter to arc a jump straight over the Shardbearer's swing. If memory serves, He leapt nearly 9 feet into the air. So we have precedence of lashing fractions of an object's mass without any adverse effects on the object/person. If half lashings are in opposite directions(north and south for example), they cancel out and the object essentially becomes weightless. If they are not opposite (say half North and half west) the target should drift along the middle (northwest) A quarter lashing cancels out half of the objects weight while still letting gravity do its job (kind of like walking on the moon)
  8. Its singular and plural. Like "Fish" But most people use "hiatuses."
  9. If memory serves, there are two contradicting WoB's on the renewability of metals on Scadrial. For the purpose of the original question, Stark is correct.
  10. I basically agree with the premise of your post so I hope you don't take this as too argumentative, but we've speculated in the past that TLR could have found a way to reset, slow or even stop his spiritual aging if he had managed to use the Well a second time, since he would have learned a lot already in the past millennia. Secondly, there was only 6,000-ish years from the Shattering to the Prelude of WoK [2] and Odium was doing several other things before going to Roshar. Even if there were only 9 Desolations, they would probably be every 350-400 years apart. I did an attempted timeline reconstruction here, so I remember these things. I think it is entirely possible for both combatants to live and strategize for the rest of time if need be.
  11. If we make the assumption that they were given to the Heralds as a part of the Oathpact, then not really. As for bonding, its doable. I'm pretty sure there was a WoB that there is some sort of .. restrictions to it that the Heralds wouldn't have, but I can't find it
  12. Vin was Preservation's chosen for his ultimate plan, and that made her able to draw upon the mists. The fact that Vin used those mists to stop TLR was out of his control. Heck, the only reason she even managed to do that in the first place is because the Lord Ruler's Steelpushes were strong enough to rip the earring out of her ear. If that hadn't happened, Vin would've lost, end of story.
  13. I think several of us know that but we ignored it as, like with both Vin and Marsh, he has grown overconfident and wouldn't go full bore right away if he doesn't think he needs to. Once it becomes a proper fight, then sure. But until then, he's gonna hold back for no reason other than because he can.
  14. He does. We do. Or at the very least, we did. This WoB is from before Edgedancer, so things might have changed for the character in the time period before/after that Novella and Oathbringer As pointed out by Szeth, and subsequently a few people on here: This is due to the fact that us "stonewalkers" make the assumption that being Truthless absolves him of his sins. Szeth feels responsible for all the chaos and death he has caused, despite being ordered to do it by others. I see the line as referencing the realization that he's gonna go down south for what he's done, rather than to heaven. That he knows he's a bad person and that whatever happens to him in the afterlife is what he deserves.
  15. This is basically the Upgrade Elantrian Pack but for Awakening. The Upgrade Awakener Pack: Breath, F-Zinc, F-Copper, and quite possibly F-Steel Breath: Self-Explanatory; The Upper Heightenings are useful for Awakening, but I can largely circumvent them later Heightening Six (1): Understand basic commands without training/practice (2): More complex commands are easier to discover/master Heightening Nine (1): Awakening Stone and Metal requires specialized commands (2): Audible Command (Awakening via Voice) Heightening Ten: Mental Command (Awakening via Thought) F-Zinc: Increased mental speed to come up with creative awakening targets/commands to get out of a tough situation F-Copper: Storing all manner of useful information pertaining to Awakening If you can store the mental image of something you looked at, you should be able to store the mental pictures from visualizations for Awakening Bypass most of 6th Heightening by storing the understanding it granted about both basic and complex commands. We were gonna use it as a Database of Commands anyway so why not store the knowledge straight from the textbook, rather than your interpretation of the information? Bypass half of the 9th Heightening by storing the specialized commands required for awakening stone/steel. If making more Nightbloods(Awakened Steel) physically required the Ninth Heightening, Vasher would not be as worried as he was/is since the only known person to reach it without holding Peacegiver's Treasure is Shashara. Probably can't jury-rig Audible/Mental Command, but per Vasher, the priests know how to teach Mental Command to the God Kings so you can store the information if you want to test whether or not you can still do it. The F-Steel is just in case you needed to quickly "make something" so it is more human-like or so it can be more useful in the situation Ex: a broom can't grab people, but a broom with rope can, etc..
  16. Assuming that you get a Resonance for each individual Interaction (As Nazh/Khriss think there should be another Shard-Combo magic system on Roshar) then I'd put the cap at 4. At 4 powers, you would have 6 potential two-power Resonances. Having more Resonances than you have powers seems like a logical place for Brandon to draw the line. Other choice would be 5 Powers, since 5Power & 10Resonances has some poetics to it. If it is one blended Resonance from all your powers, I'd.. also put the cap around 4-5 actually. I feel like it should stop showing up once the powers are too muddied up to have a clear combination effect. Never mind, my interpretation would make it variable so it's probably wrong. I just considered that similar powers exist, and they wouldn't muddy it up as much. For example, the Enhancement quadrant of Allomancy. Aluminum & Chromium, Duralumin & Nicrosil are the same effects respectively, so the Resonance of those 4 powers would probably be similar to if you only had two. A+D would have a similar Perk to C+N, as the pairs are both 1 power-up and 1 power-down. Little change if you went with A+N and D+C, since they still have one of each. The only different perks would be if they were in alike pairs: A+C and D+N. And that gets negated by having all 4, because now you have 2's balancing out in every way. 2 up, 2 down, 2 self, 2 others
  17. I realized that later. I just put too much stock into my interpretation of "tied to the orders" and didn't properly think it through because of that.
  18. Following the logic of 1stBondsmith, consider that what Taravangian is attempting to do is uniting the world, in yet another method. Not that I am saying he's gonna be a Bondsmith too, but there are many ways to achieve a goal. Some of them aren't exactly "good" ways, but they can still work For example: I could unite the world by having enough money to bribe world governments into making the needed changes to unite everyone. Bribery isn't exactly super-honorable, but if all the changes I make are positive and make everyone else more honorable...
  19. Really? We know that Radiants get more efficient Surgebinding than Honorblades do, so it didn't seem too much of a stretch to me that the perks would be unique to the Spren Bond too. I guess that doesn't hold up to how we understand Resonances, but oh well. That does stink for Jezrien, but I can think of something to work around that if/once we know more
  20. "It's tied to the Orders." So it shouldn't give them the memory thing. At least, that's how I interpreted this
  21. Hoid is from the planet of Yolen, which you could consider Adonalsium's Shardworld, but Adonalsium made several planets so that's a debate of semantics. The 16 Shards happened when Adonalsium was shattered. So by extension, he is all of them together yes. We've debated whether or not combining them would be the same person as it was before being Shattered, but generally yes, he is the Shards I think they are all usable because Investiture is Investiture, but yes, Brandon has said that all of the powers would be usable, with a little "hacking." Given Hemalurgy exists and can steal most any powers, Hoid isn't the only one capable of having all the powers. He is most definitely one of the only ones who could figure out how to gain the powers without Hemalurgy. For closeness and Sliver status, we don't really know.
  22. Can you post the specific WoB language? If we only look at at the fact that Brandon specifically said "currently", that leaves the door open to Vasher having more knowledge in the past, but doesn't really evidence anything. Here's the specific wording, and it does not bode well for your ideas.
  23. I'm quite positive that it is. One of the older threads(found it) has Chaos saying that Brandon directly told them the focus on Nalthis is Commands. It's pretty much why we even know that facet of information to begin with. The Nahel Bond fills in a crack in the Spiritweb. This is a very important distinction, as the cracks in the Spiritweb aren't like the Metal's (molecular?) structure or the shape of the Aon. The Spiritweb shows what powers you can use. For example, the cracks in Breeze's spiritweb let him use A-Brass, but the pattern of brass itself determines what that power actually does. Bonds cannot be the focus in the way we currently understand it, as they work on a different level.
  24. From the WoB I mentioned on the previous page "its a plague of the sniffles." So you are correct in that it isn't deadly, but they don't know that yet.
  25. I more read it as some of the old F-attribute didn't change to the new one, so it's taking up space that you can no longer access. Not that you specifically disagree, but given how most new metals (steel for our purposes) will still be partly the old metal(Iron), there should still be a bit of F-Iron power that feels like it's where it belongs. I am slightly lost now though... is this what Taravangian feels like writing equations and questions for his tomorrow self? Not exactly the thread I was thinking of, but at least my memory wasn't entirely wrong
