Kandra eating Nightblood would be bad for them. So sword swallowing might still be bad, since this is a similar comparison in that the item is almost fully inside the body. The Aluminum is debatable, only because there's still some argument on whether Chromium can only drain Metalminds while someone is tapping them or just drain them in general. Aluminum has better odds
-
It is, but only by 1 electron. See the Link I posted to Pagerunner's thread.

The order you read them in isn't a big deal for two reasons Brandon wants them to be largely self-contained series. You won't notice most of the easter eggs from other books until you're on a reread anyway. Small tidbits of extra info is that Warbreaker is meant to have a proper sequel at some point, and Elantris is meant to be a trilogy in the near-ish future
-
I didn't bring it up because I didn't disagree with Steelheart's assumption that he got those after he had his "know where to go" sense. It seems that we all agree on that, which is good.
-
You'd be surprised how much of that is actually just widely accepted assumptions(I was the first time someone did this to me) He did not have Allomancy back then, because he took the Lerasium b/c he wanted to be an Allomancer, and Elantris takes place sometime in the 400 years before TLR ascended and made TFE. As Flash said, we have a more recent(and non-paraphrased) WoB that he uses something on the same underlying principle that F-Chromium operates on. We do not know for sure if he attained Allomancy via the Lerasium (Every single WoB on the subject dodges the question via "originally, was his goal, if, etc..") He never explicitly states it, so we've been in a bind for a while.

It's still got a "citation needed" on the Wiki page, but I am fairly certain that it is fact, having been added to the wiki page by Chaos in 2013. Here's the edit revision history for when it was added. We know that Harmony altered how Snapping worked after his ascension, so I see no reason to doubt that Preservation was capable of what has been said here.

As you have to store individual senses separately, it should only compound his sense of smell.
-
Well, the power itself is kinda like surface tension. It's not exactly, but you mentioned it, so I brought this one up again
-
Pits and the Well are both gone in terms of Shardpools, meaning that Harmony should have a singular one somewhere. But you are correct that he has to "spend" that excess in the form of Metal:
-
It's not a WoB, as far as I'm aware. There was a comment by Leras(Preservation's Vessel) in Secret History, but I don't have that with me at the moment for the exact words. I technically disagree with hwiles statement because of it. Leras mentioned that Ati(Ruin's Vessel) always believed things eventually end(wind down, end, something similar?), which means, to me at least, that he did fit with Ruin in the sense that Ruin was a Shard of decay/entropy. Ati was a nice guy, while Ruin ended up being a Villain, but that's mostly because decay isn't something people like.
-
The short answer is Preservation meddled with things so that his prophecy could come true. His future-sight gave him a great deal of knowledge(when he created the original Terris Prophecies) This should have been before he betrayed Ruin. He swapped out the time bubble metals with Atium/Malatium so that he could create Mistings of them, as the Mists were the gaseous form of his Investiture. He did something else that I'm forgetting, and the table was reverted back to how it should have been after the ascension of Harmony

Very interesting that you bring up robots, because it doesn't refute my argument. You are correct that Lifeless receiving a Command is not that different from machines getting a command, but on a different level. They are no different in that both have to understand what you want it to do in order to do it. The difference lies in how they are programmed to understand. Machines follow lines of code, while Lifeless are comparable to a human brain(another good comparison to a robot), which has to understand your words and draw meaning from them. No matter, I have another WoB that says interesting things. An Elantrian would have to connect to Investiture in order to not die from the soul-sucking, so I see no reason why this should not apply to everyone in the Cosmere.
-
Last WoB I posted specifically includes a Drab as Nightblood draining anybody, which bypasses this Investiture gate argument. As he says: "if they were unable to feed it(Investiture), he would feed on their soul." Drabs and people on Scadrial are unable to feed it investiture, so it will suck their soul. That directly contradicts your investiture gate idea. Annotations link I posted should include Lifeless under those with a mental image. They have to understand what "kill things" means, after all.
-
Unnecessary hair splitting, as they also have Ralkalest Grates and a thin plate in the walls of cells for Forgers, so Ralkalest is definitely referred to as a metal as well. Iron Ore on Scadrial should still be called Iron, for example. I see your point though
-
From the annotations, Lifeless have some manner of cognition: The better your visualization is when you make the Lifeless, the better it is able to understand commands. This means that they do cognate, or else your commands would be useless. (Your mental picture when giving commands to a Lifeless are irrelevant, as all you do is give it a verbal command) I completely disagree with this, as Nightblood can take the "spark of life" from anyone. This means that Nightblood should also be able to drain Lifeless, as their "spark of life" is replicated by that Breath.

I'm skeptical of this just because the leaking is a physical property of Stormlight. Unless you actually convert the Stormlight into Breath, the Stormlight should probably still leak because that's what it does. I don't feel like that would change just because the Stormlight is in a rope as opposed to a gem With the Miles example: one power(F-Gold) overwrites the other power(A-Gold). Awakening with Breath changes the fuel, which I think is different enough that it may not have the same overwrite effect. As a side question, following your example: using Breath for Basic Lashings means it would run out very fast, something Breath does not normally do. This would mean that you consider how long the fuel lasts as a property of the magic system, rather than a property of the fuel. Am I correct in this assumption?

Here's 4-5 that I always end up sourcing: (Important Bits in Italics) Warbreaker Chap 21. Lifeless use their own color to come to life. Better visualizations when you create the Lifeless give it greater capacity to do things afterwards. Warbreaker Epilogue. Kalad's Phantoms can decimate an army of normal lifeless, which gives us a sense of threat level. This second bit is far more interesting though: HoA Chap 74. Some Inquisitors had access to duralumin through old spikes. HoA Chapter 37 Part 2. Inquisitors could control Koloss before the events of the books. Koloss can retain a semblance of who they were before they got spiked. HoA Chap 76. (Separate boxes for separate parts that are of importance) TLR moved the crust of the planet itself to move the Well, which took the magnetic north pole with it, making compasses point towards Luthadel. Lastly, the Final Empire itself covered a geographically small area. -
Here's the post in question: We can argue what portion is paraphrased for the outright-ness of "Rosetta Stone" till the end of time. But I'll be honest and say that I didn't see any subtext implying it's an Elantrian construct

what would happen if Nightblood absorbed a shard?

Random and Potentially Baseless Theory on Tanavast
The One Who Connects replied to jamesgrey's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I know it's been a while, but links brought me back here, and I've just noticed a possible misinterpretation on your part. In James' theory, nobody is "holding" Honor's power, it's still splintered all over Roshar. All in all, this thread is largely an attempt to explain how/why reforming a splintered Shard could be done, and Tanavast is used as an example. James thinks that the fragments have partial intents(like the Shards themselves did), and that someone would have to have connection to the whole in order to reform it. The idea is that Honor stepped down to let some person ascend so that they are connected to Honor in it's entirety. That person stepped back down so that Tanavast could resume his duties as Honor. Tanavast then made this "secret Sliver" immortal, and hid him away somewhere. Once Odium is lured back into the confrontation(as is happening in the books), the mystery person would reveal themselves and reform Honor, heavily tipping the scales in H&C's favor. -
If a Worldhopper had kids with a native of Nalthis, there's this and this: (they are both in the "it's possible" category, no express confirmation) If an already pregnant Worldhopper gave birth on Nalthis, we don't know because of this: Until we know if breath is bestowed at birth or conception, we can't answer your question.
-
I just had a moment of wondering if I'm even old enough to be allowed to understand that reference... Either way, now that I get your reasoning, the original theory sounds more viable.
-
So this is kinda like the old "subliminal messages hidden in the song lyrics" conspiracy idea?
-
Pretty sure the magic system doesn't work that way, as compounding overwrites the Allomantic effect of the metal you burn. You should still grow in size, because that is what F-Pewter does to you. I don't think it makes any distinction between what is used to fuel it
