  1. Investiture is consistent in the Spiritual Realm. RAFO.
  2. By technicality, he is alive. From The Letter: The underlined portion highlights that the Vessels were still considered to be alive until Rayse killed them and Splintered D&D. By this logic, Sazed the personality still exists. His body is .. blended in, i believe the phrase was. (found it.) Until such point as a Vessel is killed, I would still consider them alive. It's not alive in the normal sense, but I imagine that life as a mostly spiritual entity would be rather odd.
  3. Yep. Annotations x2. They'd need the Riot/Soothe Spike to take control in the first place, so the Duralumin was probably the "also," but I agree with this sentiment. I like the idea of specialization among them, but if they did have that, then maybe your average setup model should only have 6-7, allowing all of them to be minorly specialized. That way they could have the last 2-3 spikes be specialization specific. A combat model would get a second A-Steel and an A-Atium. A Koloss Handler gets A-Duralumin and A-Brass/Zinc(probably Brass to forcibly soothe a skaa rebellion, but..), etc.. F-Gold would be more standardized, but not everyone, so some could have a third specialization spike. Granted, they could have a complete default setup and just replace some of them when making the Inquisitor.
  4. A few had A-Duralumin per the Annotations. As a side note, I don't think they all had F-Gold, due to the issue with finding Feruchemists. Additionally, there is a line in HoA when Vin first sees Marsh in his full 22 spiked glory:
  5. I'm curious what you consider an "instance of asexuality among them" then. Genuinely curious, given the biological definition of asexual.
  6. I imagine that you meant they "can" exist, as I doubt any pre-Recreance KR worldhopper left their Spren in gun-form, and I don't think anyone would be foolish enough to take a gun to the stormiest place in the Cosmere unless they've made ammo that works underwater. That said, I do think that they could eventually be created eventually. Ammo could be an issue, but that's for later when they can get the concept in order. I don't really know how they would make the internal moving parts work, but the trigger itself isn't that bad. We know that a Shardbow would need real string and arrows, but don't normal bows bend some with the pulled back string? I could see there being a flexibility built in to mimic a "trigger," but how it connects to everything else could be an issue. I will also say that a Fabrial-Tech Gun isn't out of the question either.
  7. Before being filtered into each magic system, all Investiture is exactly the same. But my point was that I see no reason for one thing that needs Investiture to be limited to 2 out of the 6(7?) known types, when we know that another thing(from the same magic system) isn't limited at all by that filter. Stormlight can power Allomancy just like the Mists do, so a Returned should be able to feed on both of them as well. Additionally, we have this.
  8. I was thinking of it as Male and Female only applied to the forms capable of mating(Slaveform and Mateform) while Malen and Femalen applied to all the ones that couldn't mate, which is every other form that we know of.
  9. Inquisitors didn't all have the same set of spikes, and for all we know they may have skipped something useless like A-Gold for Pushing Power when spiking Marsh. Perhaps they had a spare A-Steel spike laying around from an inquisitor that died of old age. I doubt he had an A-Duralumin Spike at the time, but we can't say that he didn't because old Inquisitors did have them. Multiple power losses through several Inquisitors could make a Duralumin push stronger than normal, but not too strong. They could have recently decided to restructure what spikes they have to be more combat-oriented through subtle influence of Ruin. Marsh could've added another spike to himself sometime during WoA, either of his own accord or via Ruin's actions. Heck, Marsh may have even gotten to choose before/during his original spiking There are a dozen potential explanations for this, and we have nothing to prove/disprove any of them with.
  10. This statement is not actually true. With strong enough power, you can push anything. Vin via the Mists can pull TLR's bracers after all. TLR moved a planet. It's all relative to how much Investiture is in the object and interfering with it. Sazed's Metalminds were small rings I believe. They probably didn't have that much Investiture within them. Marsh was simply strong enough to push despite that interference.
  11. Here we go: Article fails to grasp the 3 Realms, but is still technically correct. Multiple inaccuracies, but they are all due to assumptions. Highstorms predate Honor's arrival, but he did co-opt them at some point. Similar statement for the Stormfather, as he existed prior and later merged with Honor's Cognitive Shadow. The Surges probably existed before Surgebinding did, but the KR method of accessing them is derived of Honor and possibly Cultivation. I cannot actually dispute this, but I also have no idea where they got this idea from in 2014. Pre-White Sand, so not really their fault, but Bavadin is Autonomy. By all accounts, Hoid wrote this letter to Frost. I have never seen a theory about her being the author of the second letter. As mentioned, Khriss is the writer of the Ars Arcanum's (Arcani? Arcana? How does one plural this?)
  12. I didn't really think it was likely, but it was the only time that I could guarantee the CR being safe to travel through. I just can't shake the feeling that Alonoe sharing her name with the Lake that makes up part of Aon Aon is important. It's unlike us to pass over something that blunt
  13. Investiture, as a whole, is the same across the Cosmere. It gets "filtered" differently on different worlds and in different magic systems. But I don't really consider that as an overarching magic system so much as a universal magic fuel. So not really a part of something bigger, but its all from the same source.
  14. Consider how long Dalinar/Adolin thought Eshonai was male because they had never seen her without the helmet/heard her voice. The common people will dismiss our female Shardbearer as another nobleman flaunting his power and stay out of the way. I see no reason why the "nobody expects them to have Shards" applies when nobody would know they were female in order to have those expectations. Pass through the town with a collection of military personnel(like the Diagrammists perhaps) and nothing is really out of place. Have our "Lord" stand-in don the suit for any public speaking, and both the common people and the reader would be fooled
  15. It's got some drawbacks. It searches for the word you type. Exact Matches only, no word within a word like the aforementioned eye(s). It will not show entries that have the word you type as a tag. On the upside, it isn't case sensitive. I can use "ctrl+f" to search within the search results(on PC). You can search for words or tags. The one thing I can't figure out is how it orders entries in your search results. Older entries are generally near the top of the list, but not always. Entries from the same signing are in the same order that they are in that signing. I don't think it's alphabetical by name of signing, but I lack the brainpower to check that
  16. Warning: This thread ignores distance limits currently plaguing magic on Sel. This thread makes assumptions about the magical effects of several Aons. This thread utilizes a method of Aon usage that is largely untested. Practical Viability may vary. Modern Society in AonDor Elantris(city) had metal plates inscribed with Aon Ashe for light. This thread is an expansion of that concept to other Aons, in an attempt to replicate the modern society on Earth, while on Sel. Aon applications are built around what I am calling an Aonic Circuit Board: a metal plate inscribed with Aons and modifiers. I have taken the liberty of assuming that by the time Sel reaches a tech level like Earth, they will either have the ability to do this with precision, or have found a way to make machines that can do this for them. I have also made the assumption that a method has been devised to let non-Elantrians affect Aons via a middle-man(example: a light switch) Entries are formatted by having the Aon and its corresponding definition in one line, while potential uses are listed below in bullet points, with varying level of detail. Aons are in alphabetical order until such time as grouping them up becomes more efficient. Aons whose power/effect are an assumption are marked with an *. Special Cases are marked with a double: **. Not all Aons are in this list, as some definitions aren't conducive to guessing powers. For a mostly complete list of Aons, Aon definitions and powers, go here. Aon Aha*: "breath, air" Oxygen Tanks (Scuba/Astronaut): Aon written on inner surface of tank, set to keep the specified area filled with oxygen. Depending on level of control, may also be set to keep air at a specific PSI as well. Air Conditioning/Ventilation System: If you can affect the temperature of the air, you can replicate home AC/Heating systems. Not much detail on ventilation. Wind Power: If you can make air, you should be able to make wind. Then you utilize that wind with Windmills to produce power. More space efficient and reliable system than normal windmills. Aon Ashe: "light, illumination" Light: It's fairly self explanatory, but it has enormous potential depending on what you can mess with. Hook the intensity modifier to a lever and you have a dimmer switch. Change what stimuli the Aon needs to activate and you could have those "clapper" lights(maybe). And much more. Flash Grenade: The "casing" is covered in sever Aon Ashe's. Have to Aon activate by detecting the lack of a pin, with a short time delay. The Ashe's are set to have a high intensity and a short duration. Aon Ate**: "silence" **Power is from deleted material, so not an assumption, but not canon either. Silencer Grenade: Little different from the Ashe Flash Grenade, except that it basically quiets an area. I see some value as a piece of Riot gear. Suppression Field: More or less a backpack version of the grenade, making the area around you silent as long as it is active. Value in stealth incursions and preventing nearby cries of alarm. Silencer: I am contractually obligated to put this on the list, even though I have no idea how it could work in practice. Aon Daa: "power, energy" Short Range RPG: Daa projectiles are essentially dumb-fire, so long range isn't as viable. "Missile" Emplacements(fixed/mobile): Heavy assumption that you can apply speed modifiers to the launched Daa projectile. They would essentially be a point and click cannon. "Ammo": This could potentially replace ammunition in any destructive weaponry. It does magic damage, it's unlimited, it doesn't jam, etc.. Aon Edo: "protection, safety" Forcefields: Make an inescapable jail cell out of pure energy, bolster city walls with a layer of Edo, set up intruder traps in a home defense system, etc.. Personal Defense: Set a certain size/shape, have the circuitry built into an arm attachment, and you've got handheld energy shields in place of wood/metal ones. Aon Ehe: "fire, warmth" Light: Lanterns, streetlights, candles, torches, you name it. It's also fairly self-explanatory, but that's light. Fireplace: On the off chance that you can't regulate the temperature when making air with Aha, or if you want that nostalgic feeling. Flamethrower: Let's face it, you all expected this. Fair warning, designing a viable one is almost as hard as the gun silencer idea. Aon Ene: "wit, cleverness" Learning Aid: School, Job Training, etc.. Improving memorization and reasoning skills is a must. Logic Aid: Programming, Planning, Designing, etc... Reasoning skills and warding off those sleep-deprivation lapses is wonderful. Aon Eno*: "water" Supply: Literally anything that involves the water company can be accomplished via Aon Eno. Hydropower: Why mess with Nature's rivers when you can just make your own? Waterwheel, Aon Eno, maybe Aon Tia to make it self contained(a falling water type system) Aon Ien: "wisdom" Healing: Teach med students how to use the things in school, actually use them in hospitals and clinics all over. Specific variants for broken bones, poisons, disease, everything. Aon Kii: "justice" Courtroom: The guilty feel pain in its presence, so inscribe it above doorways in the courthouse. Maybe add modifiers to specify what they are guilty of(murder, theft, etc..) for specific court cases. Aon Nae: "sight, clarity" Sight Tools: Glasses, Magnifying Glass, etc.. Scopes: Rifle Scope, Telescope, Binoculars, etc.. Aon Omi**: "love" **I'm making a massive assumption here about when that affection needs to be there Serenity Grenade: Remove negative emotions, instill a feeling of peace/calm. End riots in seconds. Text in question: "It is peculiar in that it requires the Elantrian drawing it to feel sincere affection for those around them," If the affection is also needed when activated, hire a pacifist or friendly religious fellow. Otherwise, we're good. Aon Rao*: "spirit, essence" Power: Yes, this is a convert Investiture into electricity idea. I have nothing else to really go on. Aon Shao: "transform, change" Production: You can create almost anything if you have the right modifiers. You can mass produce it if those modifiers are inscribed into something. Recycling: You can turn anything into anything else, so eventually this would progress into a Zero-Waste Society. Aon Shao*: "death" Executions: I make the assumption that you can modify how painful and how quick the death is, so a quick and painless death will help build a humane society. Torture/Assassination: sometimes you want information, other times you simply want them to share your pain. A slow, painful death accomplishes both. Note: We do not approve of using this product in such a manner, but truth-in-advertising laws require us to make you aware of this functionality. Aon Tae: "open" Door Opener: For disabled persons, you can open doors with the push of a button. The settings can even be adjusted to open when it detects people within certain radius for a hands-free entry when you come home with groceries. Aon Tia: "travel, transportation" Supply Shipments: Manufacturers can move anything in bulk to predefined loading areas for stores. Eliminate supply line issues entirely, get food to the market without it going bad, a store can even return defective products to the manufacturer in an instant. Rapid Response: Robbery in progress? Church on fire? Emergency personnel can now get there in seconds. My idea is built around some sort of city-map, where you can rapidly queue up the transportation destination by tapping the location on the map, or a nearby intersection via a grid layout. Questions about some of the ideas? Ideas of your own? Feel like the whole concept is ridiculous? Comment down below. All feedback is appreciated here at AonDor Enterprises. Final Note: This thread was inspired by me attempting to rationalize a way to make AonDor viable in combat, which was originally inspired the Combat Feruchemy thread. And yes, I spent way too long on this. I've got another one lined up for Fabrial-Tech if I can come up with enough practical applications.
  17. Well, the Ire are old. The name literally means "Time, Age." I fully think that they left Sel a long time before the Reod, possibly even pre-splintering(unlikely, but possible, as they would have to leave via the CR, which isn't exactly a safe way to go right now) Alonoe shares her name with Lake Alonoe, which is the Dot in the middle of the base Aon. Naming her after the lake just feels wrong, given that she wasn't born an Elantrian(as I don't think that's possible). Naming the lake after her sounds more reasonable, despite the fact that it would make her quite literally ancient. Maybe she dropped her old name when she joined the Ire..? It'd be an interesting question to get answered, if nothing else. The aforementioned CR being hard to traverse on Sel could also explain why they are still in the CR. They can't go back to Sel, and plan to take up a Shard of their own to fix that problem(maybe, they might just want it for power/study purposes)
  18. Aons stand for words, so technically, there could be almost as many Aons as there are words in a dictionary. Brandon has given us new Aons out of the blue before at signings, so take the current count at face value. The 10 similarity here was just coincidence. Nalthis is actually speculated to be 5. Edit: And there are even 5 examples The 5 Scholars. Divine Breath take you to the 5th Heightening. The God King is at the 10th (5 via Divine and 5 via normal Breath). If memory serves, there are 25 palaces for the Returned. (5x5) It's been speculated on here that Humans being born with Breath is the "5th" Biochromatic Entity. Roshar has special interest in 10, while 16 is Cosmere. Technically, the Rosharan system has 16 stellar bodies abound it's sun. 10 gas giants, 3 planets, and 3 moons. Other than that, none that I can immediately think of
  19. Vorin use the term Shardbearer as a blanket. Plate only, Blade only, Both... still considered a Shardbearer. If you specifically want a "Full Shardbearer," I... don't really know. We know old KR were offered it, but I don't think Shallan, Jasnah or Lift would really be the type to wear it.
  20. I actually have no idea what theories this answer will shatter, but have an upvote for getting another of Brandon's "maybe, maybe not" subjects pinned down.
  21. Because NB (and Returned as well) just need Investiture to eat, this similarity means nothing. (which has been an annoyance to most of us on here at some point, by the way) Investiture is Investiture, regardless of its source. And to Nightblood, it's all just food. You could feed him Aons, the contents of a Metalmind, Taldain's Sunlight(ok this might be a stretch), Stormlight, Breath, it makes no difference to Nightblood. I don't see why there should be any difference to a Returned, with the exception the Stormlight and Taldain's Sunlight are easier to get than Metalminds and Aons.
  22. Additional question based off that, if your hands were superglued together, would summoning the blade force your hands apart around the hilt(whether it would rip your skin while doing it is irrelevant), or would that actually prevent you from summoning the blade? And a few that I forgot to ask yesterday: Are Fabrials limited to accessing the 10 Surges, or can they affect other things? If they are limited to Surges, what Surge is Navani's Painrial & Pain Knife (pain decrease/increase respectively) manipulating? If they aren't limited to Surges, can they manipulate other magic systems? Similarly, can Scadrian Ettmetal Cubes manipulate other magic systems? Are there other classifications of Fabrials beyond the 5 we currently have(Augmenter/Diminisher, Conjoiner/Reverser, and Alerter)? If so, do you plan on on introducing them at some point within the SA books? If not, will there be examples of all 10 Surges being used in Fabrials in the SA Books? (Both bullets) If no, will you introduce those other Fabrials at all or will you have them remain a mystery?
  23. I thought much the same, but figured that they should keep it true to the original in showing the blue from Vin's perspective in the training scene, and when she can finally pull TLR's bracers. Something, something, Wax and a bullet later on, but you know. Ok, now I, and the other people who participated in those old conversations, all feel foolish for not thinking of this. Then again, that discussion was when we were trying to use the training scene as a base for a movie trailer. Gosh, was that only a year ago? I'm gonna have to side with Alfa here in that that seems a little too blunt. Vin mentally commented that she could still feel his soothing through her Copper, so it definitely played that role too. I didn't remember the rioting, but that could add an interesting audible/visual dynamic to the scene I think that the semi-transparent effect could work with that idea, where it is faint most of the time, with TLR, Elend, and Mistburning Vin having a more visible effect on account of their sheer power. Think that could work, or is that still too blunt?
  24. If your method of search is anything like theoryland's, then searching "eye" won't give any entries that contain it as part of a word, like "eyes," and vice versa. So perhaps that's what happened.
  25. That was never the point. Removing Stormlight was to prevent Surgebinding. The type of blade becomes irrelevant if you Soulcast the cell into a thick enough chunk of Aluminum, or some other Shardblade resistant material. If you can make a cell Shardblade-proof, you can make it Radiant-proof by removing all nearby infused spheres. The primary exception is Lift because of her gift from the Nightwatcher, and perhaps Jasnah if you don't need Stormlight to enter the Cognitive(which is a big if) I doubt that they could use their powers without any Stormlight. Become very efficient with what they have, maybe. But not relying on external Stormlight will probably remain as something that only the Heralds could do.
