  1. To get this discussion back on track: Personally, I think he may not have thought that Fullborn were impossible, since he was one. (I know he wasn't born that way, but after moving a planet via power of the gods, I think he's validated in questioning what is really "impossible") Yata summed it up quite nicely. He wasn't afraid of Twinborn in terms of power, but what they could represent. Most of his godlike reputation was built on knowing things others didn't, and using those unknown powers. He could easily crush any compounder short of maybe Double Gold, but compounding was a secret he didn't want people to know. Apply this to all the other revelations that could be made by the reveal of Twinborn, and his persecution takes on an understandable perspective.
  2. I've always seen MB Era 2, MB Era 4, etc.. And I like it a lot better than MBE2 because it's easier to understand. Also because in some conversations, we just use "Era 4" or "Era 2" and everybody knows what we are talking about. I have used "H-Iron" a few times for a Hemalurgic Spike, but this is one of the rarest abbreviations out there because there are so few times when it's valid to use. I'm fairly certain that the only usage of this term has been by me, but you may as well have a comprehensive list. Ok, now to bring up some other common terms we've used... Front 5/Back 5 - The spacing of the Stormlight Archive books, marking the in-world timegap and the gap in Brandon's release of the series Circle of Blades - Where the Heralds left their Honorblades in the WoK Prelude (think I coined this one, actually) I know this isn't really an abbreviation, but any opinions on having the difference between "unkeyed" and "unsealed" on here?
  3. It would depend on when she said it was dangerous, as the Book of Elantris happens at some point in the 400 years leading up to Rashek ascending and creating TFE. That's 1,000-1,400 years right there for something to have changed on Sel before reaching Vin/Kelsier. Then another 300+ to reach SA, and now anything could have changed.
  4. I think this is essentially what makes A-Pewter Savanthood so dangerous.
  5. As I cannot speak to the interactions with a planet's gravity as you approach an earth-mass, I can only speculate as to where the line gets drawn, but I feel like the physical limit is far below black hole level unless you are in the middle of space. That said, the practical limit would be when you are too heavy to feasibly move around in a planet's gravity, and will likely discourage any black hole experiments.
  6. RAFO. I also remember a discussion about an Aon Rao shaped backpack, with a smaller Aon Rao inside, with anoth... but I think it might have been just on the forums, since I can't find a WoB on it. Meaning that I don't think it got answered with a yes/no.
  7. I've learned enough from these discussions, seemed like it was my turn to teach for once
  8. Edit: additionally, you've committed a mistake with the Aon idea. They don't draw Investiture from you
  9. From the Reddit comments: [–]The_Vikachu 40 points 6 days ago Just going to add some other keteks, because I have the wiki page open (should have realized someone in the comments would have explained what it was). “Radiant / of birthplace / the announcer comes / to come announce / the birthplace of Radiants. ” —A ketek by Allahn “Alight, winds approach deadly approaching winds alight. ” —A ketek by Navani Kholin describing the meeting of the Everstorm with a highstorm
  10. I wasn't saying that music would be magical, I merely meant that a society that values art to that extent is likely to have all of the "arts" in spades. Musician, painter, performer, etc.. at every street corner type thing
  11. Oh don't worry, it took me just as many posts to explain it in a way that made sense.
  12. He's likely blown off a lot of skin and possibly muscle with his dynamite antics. I would put it as preventing those pain receptors from growing back when he regrows the nerves and skin. That way, he is preventing something from being healed, and my arm example isn't as bad of a connection as I thought it was. I know it feels like I'm going back and forth, but the loss of those receptors via physical damage will lead to the loss of that sense, so my examples tie together
  13. It's technically my fault. You weren't the one I linked that WoB to earlier, so it isn't really again.
  14. I was merely stating my opinion that I didn't see his extra high pain tolerance as a sign of Savanthood. His ability to heal with reckless abandon lets him go far beyond what people on earth do to endure and lose feeling of pain, but I still thought it was a non-magical thing. Don't get me wrong, if anyone in Era 2 became a Savant, it'd probably be Miles, I just didn't think we had enough proof. What specifically was your example?, so that I don't misinterpret a mix of your prior posts. I just feel that the loss of a sense can be enough for a cognitive block to form. If his eyesight started wearing down and he needed glasses, his eyesight wouldn't heal if he accepted the weakened sight and glasses, right? If he accepts his ability to feel pain going down, then I see no reason why it would still heal.
  15. If you can prevent it from removing things via cognitive will, I wouldn't be surprised if you could prevent if from fixing something that should be fixed. For instance, Lopen's arm. If he didn't see that arm as still there, would it grow back anyway?
  16. From the synthetic gemstones WoB, again. I think glass might be able to hold some, but not for very long.
  17. Fair enough, but I think I can still make it work. As he gets further and further towards enduring pain, the pain sense portion of his nervous system has gradually faded away because he doesn't see it as a part of him anymore. The man blows up dynamite in his hands, so he should have a lot of hearing damage too, but he sees hearing as something he does, while ignoring pain. So one of those gets healed while the other doesn't.
  18. I'll be honest and say that I didn't really see that as a Savanthood perk because that's something people on earth can do. Endure pain for long enough and it stops bothering you. I'm not sure where exactly I heard this, but we can always hear our own heartbeat, and over time we have simply learned to ignore it.
  19. I believe it's 15 years between the front and back 5. And so what? You didn't expect them to chemically dissemble crem and turn it into dynamite in 15 years did you? The whole point of pondering the future of tech developments is for the far future. When Scadrial hits Era 4, where will Roshar be?
  20. I'm curious about how synthetic gemstones would work in a situation like this. Mostly because he doesn't mention Spren at all in his response. I know they are just as "out there" as explosives, but these are something they would work towards. As for productivity, if you just need raw rock to Soulcast, then explosives are probably the better option in the long run. But if you need to "clear out canyons to make a city" I think you said, then Division Fabrials could probably be more precise for actually making buildings and stuff
  21. Given how important art is to the culture of Hallandren in Warbreaker, there might be some music related things in Nightblood. We're supposed to learn more about the Pahn Kahl culture in it, so if they've got music.. Anyway, for the purpose of SA, I wouldn't put it past him to make music something that Lift enjoys and find ways to feature it in her book. We just haven't had characters that enjoy music that much because of how their backstory is. Actually, we know that the Parshendi had drums during the feast before Gavilar's assassination. Depending on how different Eshonai is in her book, we might see more of that, at least in some of her flashbacks.
  22. Welcome to why my AonDor post only dealt with singular Aons. The logistics of multi-Aon combinations were vastly beyond me. And this, it seems, is no different
  23. Same issue as Gunpowder in that they'd have to learn of it's existence. Explosives aren't exactly common knowledge. Additionally, if you get a 5th Level Dustbringer, they could probably carve lines into a mountain, and Navani and the Artifabrians will be all about replicating Radiant abilities with Fabrial-Tech. I'd argue that the renewable fuel that is Stormlight will be more efficient than constantly creating more explosives. And if they would have to Soulcast the explosive materials, then division Fabrials would cut out a step and use that Stormlight for it's intended purpose faster. As Wit says, men value timeliness above all else.
  24. I was considering making one for Fabrial-Tech too, but there was so much to try and organize for potential uses of things. (off-topic, was I the first one to use "Fabrial-Tech?") You can also combine types of Fabrials manipulating the same Surge. Augmenter/Diminisher setup utilizing Illumination could provide variable lighting for anything(if Fabrials are somehow more efficient than leaving spheres hanging around). Same thing for heat(which I don't think is rooted in a Surge anymore) can be a home heating/AC system. Spanreeds have the interpersonal communication industry down pat. Navani's "archer tower" concept for Reverser Fabrials can help with constructing larger buildings, as you don't need to construct scaffolding or crane up supplies anymore. They're like a two way elevator, where the counterweight has a practical purpose too. When lacking people/tools in the other basket, Gravitation Fabrials could pick up the slack. I vaguely remember Navani also having some sort of prototype Absorption Fabrial to pull away the rain for their Archers near the near of WoR. Something about.. "..untested.. it might suck the blood straight out of people.." I think? Something like that could have all manner of potential uses. There's the obvious Alerter Fabrial security alarm, which in concert with some sort of other Fabrial could hold/capture an intruder. Nalan's Progression Fabrial could be a tool of first responders and hospitals all around to supplement the already sizable medical knowledge on Roshar. There are just too many possibilities. We've only got 10 Surges and 6-7 types of Fabrials, but there's so much versatility.
