  1. To add onto what everyone said, I was under the impression that he was left in the camps (parshman vs parshendi and all..) Even if he went after them right away, he'd have to leap chasms without bridges, and then cross a Highstorm. I can see that slowing him down long enough to not get caught in the Everstorm even if he tried, since the Everstorm moves west->east away from the Warcamps. Guess that's why I thought they left him behind... Very well, I rescind my statement.
  2. It's quite hilarious thinking about who is "new" nowadays, since I joined a month after WoR, was only interested in the Alethi translation thread, and then kinda disappeared for 2 whole years. I essentially joined in 2016, but since I read the entire Cosmere theories section when I came back, I caught back up fast. And I'm not considered new anymore.
  3. I don't think you could control Greatshells the way you control Kandra. The spikes crack their soul and give Ruin(and you) a way in, but for Chasmfiends, that gap is filled by those Spren they bond with. I think that would block it well enough, assuming the control isn't a spike-specific thing. Unless Ryshadium bond with Spren(everything else seems to, so..), I don't think they even have that opening to control them. No idea about aviar. I should have said "could be countered by Plate/Blade" for much of my post, rather than "would." Guess I need to reread the scenes where Electrum was used. All i really remembered was that it would make an Atium shadow split. I agree that it would be erratic, but I didn't remember if you disappeared when the bubble spawned, looked blurry/standing still, etc.. because those would be completely different to react to. I agree with this, and I like that balance he's made too.
  4. You happen to be correct here. The question involves lifeless, so the response should count as inclusive to that aspect of awakening Bold added. How would you guys interpret this?
  5. I wouldn't count Atium-Alloys on principle. Same with Lerasium alloys, it just seems too unrealistic and feels like giving the KR surges from a different order. Might just be me. Headbutting your head would be countered by Shardplate, and getting close opens you up to the Shardblade. Throwing stuff at you has been discussed to death already, so I wont. Seeing their future is Atium, which is a bit of a "macguffin," but yes. Seeing your own future could be helpful, but we don't really know enough about it to extrapolate how yet. Moving erratically via Iron/Steel wouldn't faze a Windrunner much. Oh you meant the speed bubbles... I really need to reread how those look to an outside observer. They'd definitely survive more punches from Plate, but I feel like the Shardbearer should just use the Blade at that point. Chromium and Nicrosil carry the same Blade risk as a Pewter headbutt, and I'm not actually sure if Nicrosil would work since the Surgebinder isn't actually doing anything with it. It feels similar to super burning metals that you aren't burning, but that might also just be me. Chromium would work though, might take a few moments to drain all of it, but..
  6. Quoth the Coppermind. Italics added I may have misinterpreted the use of the word binocular in this phrase, but "more distant view" seems pretty solid.
  7. Not 100% sure if it's a multiple or addition, but burning doubles, and flaring triples.
  8. It's not as clearcut as it would sound. Here.
  9. Be warned, this will be a wall of text that won't actually solve much because we don't have too many real answers. The Heralds are the patrons of each KR Order, given Honorblades by Honor himself to participate in the Oathpact and fight in the Desolations. Honorblades grant Surgebinding to the wielder, and are what the Spren modeled their bond after. The Oathpact was between the Heralds and Honor, and that's about all we know for sure Through some unknown means/reasons, they appear to spend the years between Desolations trapped on Braize being tortured. Braize is the (third?) planet in the system, and is essentially Odium's domain, and some sort of prison if I recall If they die during the fighting, they automatically "go back," and if they survive they have to go back. We don't know if this means they off themselves or some other method. They have to go back because if they stay on Roshar too long, another Desolation will start automatically. We suspect that a Desolation starts when one of them breaks under torture, and they get sent to Roshar to prep mankind for it As for who they were/where they originate from, it's a heavy RAFO (quoting my old post here:) During the Prelude to WoK(4,500 yrs ago chapter), 9 of the Heralds abandoned the Oathpact and went their separate ways Ishar theorized that as long as one of them remained bound, it should still work People on here blame him for spoilers, but he was correct about this one: Taln kept the Pact alive, albeit not by choice. Taln died during the last Desolation, so he's spent that 4,500 yrs being tortured in hell. more or less The remaining 9 left their Honorblades in the stone as a sign of abandoning the Pact. Nalan retrieved his at some point, the rest are with the Shin(where Szeth got his from) The remaining 9 have started/continued going mad(we don't know when it started or why, but there's all manner of ideas) As a result of this madness, they have been doing rather strange actions: Shalash (Baxil's Mistress) is responsible for the destruction of artwork/statues of her Nalan has been killing Surgebinders because their return will apparently "bring desolation to this world" Ishar may/may not have visions of the future We have seen/heard reference to all of the Heralds within the first 2 books, though some are less clear to us. Anyone have something I missed? This is all from memory and my quoted bookmark, so something got left out, I'm sure of it
  10. As an additional point, Brandon has said that since they both give strength, you could store the strength from A-Pewter in a Metalmind to avoid being debilitated while storing, but at that point you may as well compound. That said, this combo could still be very dangerous. Allomantic Attributes don't function the same way as Feruchemical ones (A-Tin sight isn't a "zoom" like F-Tin sight is), so if you tapped your F-Pewter Metalminds while burning A-Pewter, you could probably reach some pretty dangerous strengths. Health Note: I believe the limit to F-Pewter is where you grow enough for your skin to snap like Koloss do (since you don't have Gold Healing to save you) so this could be pretty dangerous to try.
  11. Oh it gets better. Soulcasting was "very interesting" to Vasher.
  12. At a minimum, it's comparable to Wax's Steel-Bubble, since both can bend the path of bullets, so I agree with this as well. Italics added Edit: because I found a different WoB to respond to something else. And I can quote you in an edit and have it work Anyway: Here. It's not definitive, but it's an answer of some kind
  13. Oh no, now I'm gonna have to expand my signature with some of the other great suggestions and link to this thread(which was far easier than I figured it'd be) As for the stick, I never paid it a second thought. Even you people with your crazy threads haven't done much to change that. Ooh here's a good suggestion: It's this thread from way back when, but the title stands out enough that it's completely worth it.
  14. All types of healing are based on perception(why Kal's brands don't heal, maybe why Kel's scars are back) and Awakening requires a mental image to work, but we don't know how much is really changeable. I'm fairly sure that the powers themselves are immutable though. It's Hoid in a flashback (hint: he drinks an odd flask) Yep, it's the epigraphs in part 2 of WoK & part 4 of WoR. They are in full-text form here. Clarification, it's two letters: One from Hoid & One to Hoid No answers any which way, besides maybe a RAFO about life on other worlds. It's tough. The bigger issue is getting your Spren to the other world, but yes. You could give breath to literally anyone with the basic command, and they could awaken with it provided they learn the commands. Strangely, Breath seems to work a bit like Hemalurgy, where you can do/give it to anyone, anywhere and they can use the power it provides.
  15. If they merely twisted out of the way, yes. If they ran to the right for instance, then they would no longer be between the Mistborn and the projectile. The Mistborn would have to do more maneuvering(which they could do), not to mention they may have to get closer to the Radiant depending on how far the object rolled/flew past them.
  16. Most of what the darkeyes heard was probably the noblility gossiping loudly about it, and the lighteyes could easily have been more preoccupied with the spectacle of Adolin pulling a solid 4v1 then 3v1 for most of the fight than some lowly spearman.
  17. You should look at the rest of the table again. The left half of the Allomantic Abilities Chart is the only section that really follows that logic of self/someone else. Top Left: Steel/Iron push/pull on other things. Pewter/Tin push/pull on yourself. Bottom Left Chromium/Nicrosil are to others what Aluminum/Duralumin is to yourself. Bottom Right Section is all about yourself: Gold only shows your own past. Electrum only shows your own future. Speed bubbles are centered on yourself... And all the powers in the Top Right relate to others. Copper protects you from the emotional manipulation of others. Bronze lets you sense magic being used by others. Emotional Allomancy can only be used on other people.. It's an interesting connection you've just had me make (this point started out similar to what Pagerunner just said about the Enhancement Quadrant.) Speaking of which, what do you think of it being looked at this way @Pagerunner? It's because Malatium is an alloy of Atium and Gold, so it's got that similarity to both.
  18. After Harmony ascended, he took pity on them and made them a true-breeding race. That's not exactly what he's said, but.. or this This is just incorrect. Multiple shadows has to do with both parties having some manner of precognition. This can be accomplished with Atium or Electrum. Electrum isn't as good at it, so it will only cause your own Atium shadow to split if the other party has Atium, rather than the flurry of shadows caused by both parties using Atium.
  19. The Beyond is always described as something that has more akin to an "afterlife" than "reincarnation," but that's a matter of semantics since Brandon doesn't go into much detail
  20. This has been under heavy debate in the past 4 days, and is in no way confirmed. My opinion on the matter is that Vasher is simply that much more skilled due to his extensive amount of practice rather than some kind of Savanthood. Awakening just doesn't seem very conducive to making Savants.
  21. Generally Third Oath, but not always.
  22. I always thought it was white? Edit: it is I don't have SH with me, so I can't check that, but maybe this has something to do with Investiture on Scadrial specifically? We know that all metal glows in the Cognitive there, even if it isn't invested..
  23. An "entire system" could be quite big, but following Oversleep's pocket-watch suggestion, the vast majority of buyers and sellers could have no knowledge of the deal. Our Venture contacts and merchant Worldhoppers are middlemen, buying things from their own world's merchants, trading them with the other party, and then supplying them to a merchant's stand back at home. In terms of who needs to know about the multi-planet economy, this could be accomplished with as little as 3 people. Some rich nobleman buys pocket-watches(or something less suspicious) in bulk, ships most of it to the outer dominances to keep up appearances, and a servant(Felt for instance) delivers the rest in a small crate to our errant worldhopper. He/She then sells the crate of exotic goods to a local merchant back on say... Nalthis. The merchant might question who the worldhopper's mystery supplier is, but as long as they're making big business selling rare goods, they'll overlook it. Same goes for the first seller, attributing it to pompous noble behavior(Dr Strange's watch drawer ) and ignoring it completely when they get handed the big bag of coin as payment. On the other hand, increasing the size might be a good thing. Letting the merchants in on it would bypass the phase where the vendors question the odd/shady purchases. In addition, you could prop up the imperial economy yourself during a house war by having the merchants know that selling to you won't be a lost cause. As you move to trade with more and more worlds, you will need to trade a larger variety of items. The means more contacts, more vendors, more shipments, more everything. Balance out an increasing demand by increasing the supply, so to speak.
  24. It might just be me, but I always felt like the 2 necessary spikes were internalized so they weren't a problem while on assignment. We know Kandra have fluid bindpoints, so it could work
