It's not like he can really destroy Nightblood with anything to get rid of it now can he? All it takes is for a second one to have already been created, and then somebody's gotta take care of it.

Parshendi-Human Relationship
The One Who Connects replied to SilverTiger's topic in Stormlight Archive
They don't actually. From the WoB I posted above, the strain of humans and Parshendi that currently populate Roshar both predate the Shards, so odds are they could've been created by Adonalsium. (Fairly certain we know the Parshendi were, since Adonalsium made Roshar too. R&P used Yolish Humans as the template on Scadrial, so why not have Adonalsium do it too?) Being made by the same creator/being patterned off the same template could explain the physical similarities between them. Could also explain the reproductive viability, if Adonalsium didn't make too many changes when he created the Parshendi. As for points 2 and 3, Parshendi break some of the natural rules via Spren Bonds. They physically change from a neuter gender to a proper male/female gender when entering Mateform. They grow carapace armor when entering Warform. Thinner facial structure and swirling skin patterns in Nimbleform, etc.. there's gonna be a little suspension of disbelief going on eventually. -

Controversial Opinions
The One Who Connects replied to Toaster Retribution's topic in Entertainment Discussion
Sanderson: Stormlight: (Haven't read Oathbringer yet, so we'll see if these change) I don't care for Kaladin or Shallan. Dalinar, Szeth and Taravangian were where it was at for me. Lift isn't very entertaining. I felt much more immersed in Rysn's Interludes. I find the magic more interesting than a majority of the characters.(Don't know if this in an unpopular opinion) Mistborn: I like TFE Era Trilogy more. Read AoL once and haven't brought myself to start Shadows of Self yet. There's no draw, nothing pulling me in. General: Hoid hasn't captured my attention enough to warrant forming an opinion about him, and I doubt this is gonna change anytime soon. I like Warbreaker and Elantris. Star Wars: The Phantom Menace wasn't that bad. Jar Jar was awful, but he was easily ignored. The rest of it was fine. Sure kid Anakin wasn't the best actor, but he was also a literal child, so have some realistic expectations people. The Original Two Battlefront games were, are, and will always be better than the new ones. (It's almost the popular opinion now, but I put it here anyway) Game of Thrones: Daenerys' entire character arc thus far began and ended with "annoyance." I gave up on her before Viserys died. (For reference, that's under 400 pages/5 episodes of total story, including the chapters/scenes she wasn't even in.) Joffrey wasn't that bad. He just felt evil for the sake of being evil, which falls miserably flat with me. Major props to the actor though, his portrayal in the show was great. Arya and Sansa were only interesting though association with actually interesting characters like Littlefinger and The Hound. Alone, they're both meh at best. My favorite character remains Cersei Lannister. Other: Harry Potter: The fates of the primary three protagonists were of no consequence to me. It's not just the love triangle either, as early as Chamber of Secrets I was finding it increasingly difficult to care about any of them as the books went on, and boy did that translate into the movies... The only characters that I actively wanted to survive the final battle were Luna and Bellatrix. Everybody else was either already dead, a side character, meh, annoying, or Voldermort(who had to go, b/c this is a children's book). Marvel: Both Thor 2: The Dark World and Captain America: Civil War got too much hate. Sure they weren't the best, but they weren't as bad as people make them out to be. -
Warbreaker happens after Hero of Ages, and Alloy of Law takes place after Stormlight 5. AoL is only 341 years after HoA, meaning that there is a maximum of ~300 years from WB to SA. Nightblood was made during the Manywar, 300 years prior to the story of WB. Nightblood was only created roughly 600 years before modern Stormlight Archives takes place. Nightblood would have been made about a century after the Hierocracy, which is nearly 1.5 millennia after the Recreance. Which is nearly 2.5 millennia after the Heralds retired during Aharietiam, which is etc... Were Stormlight happening right now, Nightblood would have been created during the reign of Henry V of England. All things considered, that's not that long ago.

If that was meant to be a spoiler tag, you clicked the quote bubble. Figured it should be noted, in case you needed to fix that

why do people only ever carry a few bottles of metals with them
The One Who Connects replied to Zape's topic in Mistborn
I might be thinking too thin with the armor, or overestimating how much force people can resist without stumbling back(oh.. I'm still thinking of Mistborn, who would have Pewter. That's what's happening) Maybe I'm misinterpreting from our limited descriptions of them, but I felt that they covered a bit more of the body before being slit into tassels. You make a valid point about the vest, which makes me curious. If they weren't important like armor, why did they keep them around: -
WoB - Awakened Toupees
The One Who Connects replied to Hoiditthroughthegrapevine's topic in Warbreaker
Okay, so we're banning like 5 characters from entering Shadesmar now for safety reasons . That's actually pretty cool to know, along with your wig questions. Awakened objects can respond to conditions.. this opens up possibilities for the future. -
The Ultimate List of Questions for Brandon
The One Who Connects replied to Chaos's topic in Cosmere Discussion
From the Spoiler Policy Announcement(the topic heading that's atop every page right now) So @Ookla the Dragon, you need to edit your post to say "Oathbringer Spoilers" outside of that spoiler tag so people know. -
No. That was an extension of 8giraffe8's thoughts. Brandon has said Adonalsium could've split in different ways, so giraffe is thinking that that possibility could allow Brandon to talk about potential what-if Shards in less specific questions like that one.
-
You wouldn't be the first to ask this, though I'm having trouble finding the discussion on here. General consensus that I can remember was that if such a sphere existed, it would be at/near the very bottom of the "sea of spheres" in Shadesmar. This would make it very difficult to get to for anything with a physical form. And since the continent/planet are "big" concepts, they'd need a lot of stormlight to change. A shard could do it, but at that point any Spren guarding it would be irrelevant.

Dominion, Devotion, and Sel: the Planet Ascends
The One Who Connects replied to Ethan_sedai's topic in Cosmere Discussion
A Cognitive Shadow is not "power that has become self-aware." That's the distinction which excludes Kelsier from the question regardless of when it was asked. I'm not trying to contradict Khriss here. John203 stated that he thought sentience was always gonna happen. I provided a WoB showing that it isn't always gonna happen. Nothing more or less than that. -
Force of habit. (Also, spellcheck counts "spren" and "Spren" as two different words) I don't think societal views have as much weight as you think they do. (To be honest, unless you bonded a Highspren, I don't think they hold much weight after you've bonded. It'll shape your view of right/wrong, and mold the views of the Spren to begin with, but after that, I feel it's more centralized to the individual Bond.) Oh not this again... . Had Kaladin not changed his mind about assassinating Elhokar in WoR, he would've committed an action where the ends justified the means without breaking his bond.

I get your point, but he learned about Kandra/Koloss/Inquisitors from Ruin. I still agree with you, since Ruin whispered those secrets to TLR while he was ascended and he still remembered it, but details are important.

why do people only ever carry a few bottles of metals with them
The One Who Connects replied to Zape's topic in Mistborn
I'd have said a lead pipe, but figured a solid bat would be heavier than a hollow pipe, and thus better for my example. You are right that properly made armor is good at deflecting, but I was talking about(realized my prior post didn't imply it that well, let me reword this). Since I used a baseball bat as my example weapon, I was imagining that it'd be swung like a baseball bat would(a side-swing, somewhat). A blow like that would hit horizontally across the chest or stomach, rather than be a glancing blow, so it wouldn't deflect as much, if at all. That's why I posited it denting the metal. We were actually talking about Mistcloaks. Start rereading the conversation from this post, and it'll make more sense. Your logic is fairly sound, but the common guard aren't gonna be called upon to fight Mistings/Mistborn anyway. The people who are actually gonna do that use alternative weaponry/armor because it's the right choice, which is why I'm unsure why some of the Nobility still have swords. Armor weighs you down more, which messes with Steel/Iron as a form of movement. It'd take relearning your margins of error for flight paths and acceleration, which is gonna take a good bit of time and effort, not to mention being dangerous overall. If you get used to one setup, habits from it will bleed through when you are trying to use the other one. This means that you'll be at risk of not slowing down fast enough when you have armor(because you're used to being light) or at risk of speeding up too fast when you are without armor(because you are used to being heavy). Additionally, the more protective the armor is, the more it hinders movement(usually). Being hindered is a bad thing as an assassin, and a bad thing when facing an assassin. Had you actually read the segment of the book that I put in my prior post, you would not be saying any of that. The narration directly contradicts you: "Elend slew another Koloss, but his motions were beginning to feel sluggish. Atium enhanced his mind, but it did not boost the body, and he'd started to rely on his pewter to keep him going." It's pretty clearcut. Atium allows you to perform things at the peak of your capacity, but if you are weakened/tired/wounded, then the "peak" of your capacity is lower. If I don't physically have the muscular strength to dodge something, the Atium is irrelevant. -
[OB] Azure and her 'shardblade'
The One Who Connects replied to thecaptain01's topic in Cosmere Discussion
As mentioned by Yata, there is a very small time-frame since it's after HoA but before AoL. From WoB, Warbreaker is "several hundred" years before Way of Kings. (The implied placement of Warbreaker should still be semi-accurate, even if Alloy got moved later). Additionally, Nightblood(Book) is meant to be the "exact book" before SA1, but closer to WB than to SA. Main reason I'd say probably not(outside of the more "self-contained" story reason) is that she's looking for Vasher, and I don't think he's gone to Sel before. -
That was still Kaladin though, which was the one they have connections to. Spiritual Connections formed through shared experiences, rather than any magical means. I'm not entirely sure what you are trying to say here.
-
I think being a Squire relates to your Connection to your Radiant. So I don't think they Bridge 4 could temporarily Squire for Shallan, because they don't have that connection that they have with Kaladin.

[OB] Adolin-Shallan-Kaladin Discussion
The One Who Connects replied to Harbour's topic in Stormlight Archive
Double posting is posting twice in a row(it's not a duplicated post, although that would count). It's generally disapproved of, since you can edit in additional thoughts into your prior post. Pages only hold 25 posts each, so minimizing the clutter is something people should do. -
[OB] Hoid's Interference
The One Who Connects replied to KhanBoltNo4503's topic in Cosmere Discussion
The difficulty is getting the Spren off of Roshar. The Surgebinder can leave just as easily as any person who enters the CR and wanders somewhere else. The Tenth Heightening(Susebron) is ~50,000+ Breath. Comparatively, I wouldn't call 1/250 of that as "a decent amount." -
Dominion, Devotion, and Sel: the Planet Ascends
The One Who Connects replied to Ethan_sedai's topic in Cosmere Discussion
There's a distinction between a Cognitive Shadow and a Spren/Seon/Skaze/what-have-you, which could make all the difference. Sentience is an option, but it's not a guarantee. -
[OB] Why Did Dominion and Devotion Pair Up?
The One Who Connects replied to ROSHtaFARian2.0's topic in Cosmere Discussion
We have two WoBs that give us a little insight into the Vessels. (1) , (2) H&C were lovers. R&P were of the "lets do something cool together" variety(kind of). I'm leaning towards Aona and Skai being siblings, if only because "rule the galaxy as father and son" comes to mind with the other option -
[OB] Aluminum Economics and Roshar
The One Who Connects replied to LordMistbornII's topic in Stormlight Archive
As the one who created the Roshar subheading on the Aluminum page, allow me to say that it's not a guaranteed thing yet. From Brandon(Feb 1, 2017): From Brandon(Feb 3, 2017): From Peter(February 6, 2017): The status of the subject is still very much up for debate, and will likely remain that way until Brandon puts Shardblade vs Aluminum into a book.- 39 replies

So he did. (But then why was there debate on the subject back then..? Whatever) Gosh I need to reread these books sometime. I can agree with that, especially since Lift "spoke" an Oath internally in Edgedancer. I think it's just human nature to think out loud, as it were. Speaking about something helps focus your mind on it, but we don't necessarily have to speak to focus. I'd probably say the oaths out loud while rededicating, but Kaladin didn't. I like your idea about Shallan too, hadn't really given her past oaths much thought beyond "they happened." In light of the Third Ideal via Teft, I'm curious if Kaladin's more straightforward Oaths would've been different had he changed as much as Shallan had in her regressed state.

[OB] The importance of Nightblood
