On the assumption that Fabrials/Radiant powers work in the Cognitive Realm, why not use Gravitation to speed progress along while in the Cognitive? That might actually be the closest they can get to FTL. I wonder if air resistance is a thing in the Cognitive... might limit the choice of building materials

The Ultimate List of Questions for Brandon
The One Who Connects replied to Chaos's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Questions about Lift this time: Warning, there are more than I first expected. Would Lift's food to Stormlight ability still function if she lost the ability to Surgebind? If yes, can she do anything with that power? Does Lift's food to Stormlight ability turn food into investiture, or specifically into Stormlight form? Would Lift increasing her friction with the air (wind resistance/drag) reduce her velocity and let her survive a fall? Since Lift exists partially in the Cognitive Realm, can she see into it at all? If yes, can she see into it more often/easily than others? Would existing partially in the Cognitive Realm make it easier for her to Soulcast/Elsecall if she had access to those powers? Each order has a unique aspect (Windrunner squires, Lightweaver memory, etc..) Have we seen the Edgedancer trait in the Lift Interlude? Edit: Another one: Can Lift use her "awesomeness" to slick other objects, or just herself? -
This is March of 14 and it doesn't specifically ask, but Brandon somewhat implies that the ability to awaken doesn't depend on sDNA. Source As stated above, it doesn't specifically ask about what you mention. I do agree that being born with breath does require Nalthian sDNA.

I believe Taravangian mentioned (inner thoughts) about devising them on "one of his better days". Most likely after the Diagram, but nothing directly stating either way

I never considered Honorblades as fabrials, but the in-world people... This has merit. This adds to the Oathgate thing, as i imagine Navani and Co. still working on understanding that. You make a good point about nobody expecting her to have it, both because of gender conventions from that book, and because nobody expects people to give up Shardblades (Amaram/Kaladin), especially one as powerful as Szeth's. I still like the idea of Lopen having it, but I can definitely get behind Navani and the Artifabrians studying it. On the note of study, I don't believe the bond with Szeth required a gemstone... that's something any Shardbearer would want to learn more about

I know it's a side note, but the magic systems can work anywhere. Its mainly a matter of fuel. Roshar doesn't sell Allomancer's Pewter (to give one example). Brandon has said that Awakening can be powered by stormlight, but that nobody's really figured out how yet. I see getting a Shardblade as something like Fighter to Swordmaster/Warrior, and Plate going towards Berserker(something like that). Having both would be like a Knight (the RPG type, not Radiant ) Closest I've gotten to RPG's is Fire Emblem games, so fair warning if I say something stupid. Well, KOTOR 2 had some RPG elements to it..

Writer's Block: Anyone Got Tips?
The One Who Connects replied to Quadrophenia's topic in Creator's Corner
My "unfinished projects" pile definitively states that I need to hear these tips as well. In my personal opinions though: Writer's block: I either take a break or work on a different section. Procrastination kinda depends on why you are procrastinating. If you lack motivation, refer to TwiLyghtSansSparkles above. If it's some variant of laziness (where I suffer mostly) sometimes it's best to let yourself have a rest. Otherwise, just do something time consuming that you don't like doing. You'll be dying to get back to the story pretty soon. -
how does hemulurgy tie in with twinborns specifically compounders
The One Who Connects replied to Dan r93's topic in Mistborn
Not sure what you mean by this. If you are asking if you can can use hemalurgy to let someone compound, then yes. You can use hemalurgic spikes as metalminds yes. Brandon has warned that there would be "interesting" effects to burning a spike for allomancy, so that part might not be too safe. You could always burn a normal metalmind to compound and store that in the spike though Hemalurgy only gives extra strength to abilities someone already has. Basically spikes only have say.. 50% (random number), a normal person would get the power, but be weaker than a normal misting. If you gave the spike to a misting, it would be like 1 + (50%), so they get a boost. You can give a normal person stronger powers, but it takes more than one spike of the same power. If I misread what you were asking, or you have more questions feel free to ask. I'm sure someone has the answers or correct me if I screwed up. -
Want To Make A Video-Game With Me?
The One Who Connects replied to StormlightTheVideogame's topic in Stormlight Archive
I agree with this statement, because I've looked at the Orders from what might be the perspective of a different game type. Stoneward's have almost nothing mentioned because we haven't seen either of their surges, together or in their adjacent Order. On the subject of "guessing based on names" the Stoneward/Bondsmith theories on Tension (and it's use with Cohesion) just seem... out there to me. Regardless of game type, it's best to wait until we see/understand how they work a bit better. This makes sense, but I'm curious what era of history you want to do. I only ask because getting info on history could help with building the idea of the world while waiting on the surges. Brandon is tight-lipped about the Recreance/Hierocracy/Desolation specifics, so he might be more willing to give insight about other time periods. *Might need to edit this to sound clearer once I'm more awake*- 43 replies

I almost expect to find out at the end of Book 4 that Lopen has it. I see it as fully within Brandon's writing capability to make it work. On the assumption that Jezrien is still alive, the location of his Honorblade is going to be important. As a side note, do you imagine giving Dalinar the Honorblade of an adjacent order (Double Adhesion) would make his Full Lashings stronger? Edit: forgot about that WoB

Is Szeth Really "The One Who Hates?"
The One Who Connects replied to Aizhen's topic in Stormlight Archive
In Urithiru, Mraize did mention to Shallan (WoR Chapter 80 something) about her brother seeking out the skybreakers. Not sure what it proves overall, but he did say it -
He could not inhale stormlight because it was not an honorblade. It is actually a dead spren blade, as evidenced by the fact that he hears screams before breaking the bond. This answers both of your questions, and defeats conclusion 1: continuity. As for conclusion 2, we have no idea whether "Taln" is actually a Herald, or if he bonded a shardblade. Firstly, because Brandon always refers to him as "the man who calls himself Taln." Secondly, because the blade he had has disappeared off the map. Curse you PantsForSquares There goes the rest of my sources

It probably has little to do with this, but Brandon has RAFO'd (twice iirc) if Szeth was bound by anything more than his honor. I never would've made a connection if you hadn't suggested that, so I figured I'd add it

The Ultimate List of Questions for Brandon
The One Who Connects replied to Chaos's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I imagine there would be greatly reduced power loss from the blood coating, but the new "edges" created by splitting the spike wouldn't be covered by blood at all, and would let out some power. Its still probably worth asking, as the blood coating may negate this through magical fine print. -
Feruchemical grouping in regard to Hemalurgy
The One Who Connects replied to Oversleep's question in Cosmere Q&A
I apologize for not elaborating in "tracing back the sources" and not updating the link. The H-property, and the source to the MAG, is on the Metallic Arts page -
Thanks, edited my post to reflect that. Theoryland is just the only one that i can navigate to find things with any ease.
-
There is a singular WoB on theoryland concerning the Dawnsingers, so no.

Feruchemical grouping in regard to Hemalurgy
The One Who Connects replied to Oversleep's question in Cosmere Q&A
The second Physical section is also called Hybrid. Gold spikes steal Feruchemical Hybrid. Tracing back the sources it leads to the MAG, just so that is clear. -
It is not 100% from this one It's not exactly being Ninja'd by Eki because i have a different WoB

Odium, not originally. Cultivation, not originally. Honor, no Basically, I have to agree with Jondesu. I haven't seen the WoB where they predate H&C's arrival, but...

Where to they get more Parshmen from?
The One Who Connects replied to cadebengert's topic in Stormlight Archive
Link. I don't know if this means that they are directly related, or if he is stating the "connection" between Parshendi and Horneaters -
When asked, Brandon has said that "historically, it hasn't happened" and that "anyone in-world will tell you no" Ninja'd by Jondesu. Nice

Dec, 2010: Who each of the Heralds are and what their natures were is important. March 11, 2014: Were the heralds born on Roshar? RAFO Sept 4th, 2014: Is he Rosharan? Taln is Rosharan. // Native to Roshar. That I have to RAFO. // The Heralds are from the same place that Taln is from. Feb 17, 2016: The Heralds do not come from Nalthis, but that is an excellent question. Apr 8th, 2016: It is normal for a cognitive shadow to get stuck to places, because they exist through investiture it is normal for them to get tied to an area. This happened with Odium and the two shards on Roshar, Preservation to Ruin, and the Heralds (To Roshar? Braize?). Relevant information on Theoryland containing the "Heralds" tag

Is Szeth Really "The One Who Hates?"
The One Who Connects replied to Aizhen's topic in Stormlight Archive
Not 100% sure on that, because of this WoB. Emphasis added. This may mean that he hasn't done the "bond" yet, but unsure at the moment. -
9 of 10 Heralds (coincidence that only 1 died) 9 of 10 Orders (??) 9 of 10 Oathgates (speculation about buildings on top of them and weight/Stormlight limits) There is still something odd going on. Individual "explaining away" in parentheses. Together though...
