Trell actually might not be a shard we know!
The One Who Connects replied to Djarskublar's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Nalthis is also the only world we know of with only 1 Shard (that isn't Autonomy/Odium), which is probably the biggest reason for no interference. Random idea I had is that Endowment is the intent that most opposes the concept of fighting back, but that's got a confusing explanation so I'll hold off on expanding it. -
I don't believe Brandon has given a definitive yes or no to this. However, I do remember something along the lines of "everyone in-world will say that they can't" Personally, that sounds like a yes without saying it, or he means that it's possible, but nobody knows how (like magic hacks)

It's still free-fall, but it's falling due to gravity rather than being thrown. You are correct that it would depend on when they burn aluminum to cancel it, but it is less initial velocity than what you seem to be assuming. Granted, multiple Lashings could increase the starting acceleration, but they would all be cancels at the same time.
-
i thought the aluminum would use itself up. Maybe the Inquisitors just fed Vin a small amount of it. On that thought, you could dispel Investiture without being wasteful by using Aluminum pills

Bendalloy, cadmium savants and Compounders
The One Who Connects replied to Asasasyn in White's topic in Mistborn
Granted, that may have been what they meant. Given their use of "slow-burning while doing other stuff" though, I'm not too sure. I saw it as since it's a slow-burning metal, you won't run out very much. This means more opportunities to flare without restocking. It's (IMO) the whole reason Spook savanted in the first place, because he hardly ran out so he could flare it anytime he needed. -
The Ultimate List of Questions for Brandon
The One Who Connects replied to Chaos's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I always figured that "interpreting" had a lot to do with the mental picture visualized by the awakener when they say the command. If that is right, then the 2 swords would turn out differently no matter what, because they were made by different people's opinion of "evil" Edit: didnt notice the question said same person -
The Nahel bond grants all the bonuses of Stormlight and is bound by the Oaths. Checks and Balances Honorblades just grant specific Surges and basic ability to use Stormlight. I even think it healed him slower than Kal. If Szeth had the Edgedancer/Truthwatcher equivalent Honorblade, he would have the ability to heal nearly anything.

There is also the possibility that Kel and Sazed's necessary connection had to do with their species being directly created by Ruin and Preservation. i don't actually have any evidence for this, but given how Ruin (and Leras?) alluded to Kel about having created them it could be relevant. Edit: Kel has too many "unique situations" going on

The Ultimate List of Questions for Brandon
The One Who Connects replied to Chaos's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I think about one thing for too long and get multiple questions, so I apologize if my posts here ever seem cluttered. Could a Leecher (A-Chromium) drain people of other types of investiture, such as Stormlight or Breath? Is there a limit to the amount of investiture a Leecher could drain from someone? 50K Breath =/= Misting Metal Reserves Can a Leecher drain from Invested objects, or is it limited to people? Can you leech another Leecher? He's mentioned a "Misting SWAT Team" for next trilogy, seemed relevant. Aluminum Misting's can heal from a Shade's withering. Could a Leecher drain the wither from someone else? -
From this topic (Wiery's last post on last page) On the "Dustbringer" subject, there's a 15 year time gap between the front and back 5. Which is plenty of time for a younger Dustbringer to come into prominence. Start as an interlude character and show up in Lift/Jasnah's POV chapters of some battle scene. Now that I think about it, Taln and Shalash flashbacks could be from the older Desolations right? Maybe our unknown Dustbringers will be alive during those. The Herald=/=Order, but I'm sure that once the battle starts you work with whoever is nearby

This.. is rather well thought out. I like this. It is written to him, given the use of "you." I have previously pointed out the word "Investiture" (Floorboard 27) as a sign of outside knowledge. There are just 2 phrases that I wish to offer an opinion on. Assuming the wanderer is Hoid, this could support your theory. Hoid knew the Original 16, so this could be Cultivation "typing while daydreaming" as it were. She is following the strings of connections to pick what to have Mr. T write, stumbles upon Hoid, and expresses legitimate surprise that he still exists. Note: this means that Cultivation wasn't aware Hoid was on Roshar before, but is now. Depending on how they got along, this could go anywhere. Assassinate him expeditiously. I have struggled with this line for a while. On one hand, this doesn't seem to fit with how I imagine Cultivation. On the other, Brandon has said that Ruin would be most compatible with Cultivation, so I can see her breaking something to build something else better (like compost).

I never did grasp at word meanings, but this is really interesting. Have an upvote. Small detail is that Dahn is only for the Lighteyes, Darkeyes use Nahn (which, as far as I can tell, doesn't have a definition)

Favourite Surges that you want to have
The One Who Connects replied to Asasasyn in White's topic in Stormlight Archive
The problem with this is that we still don't really know what 3 or 4 of the surges do. Well, we have an example for some, but no real explanation of why/how it does it. It kinda limits our imagination on what the powers are capable of doing, so we don't feel like picking them That having been said, Adhesion and Cohesion. Cohesion is one of the aforementioned semi-unknowns, so bear with me here. Both Cohesion and Adhesion alter the molecular connection substances have with each other. Cohesion with like substances, Adhesion with unlike substances. Incoming Extrapolation: That connection should work both ways, sticking together and unsticking (Lift and Slicking) Having both powers means that a person could (dis)connect almost anything on the molecular level. I could turn a makeshift barricade into a solid object, reforge a broken sword in an instant, split objects into multiple pieces (cell bars can't hold me now) etc.. Legitimately Baseless Conjecture: Since it is a molecular change, it shouldn't need a constant source of Stormlight like the Lashings do. Once the molecules realign, it should be done. Edit 2: Ok, so I'm a dumb. Lift has Abrasion, not adhesion. And in the Cosmere, Adhesion hasn't been used to alter something on a molecular level, I was going off how it was understood in our world. Everything not struckthough is still valid AFAIK. -
What happens if Odium is defeated?
The One Who Connects replied to Naurock's topic in Stormlight Archive
I like this interpretation, though I have heard something slightly similar before. I personally don't think they are that contradictory, so here it is: I disagree with the idea that you can resist Shardic Intent for very long, but there has to be a point where you no longer have to. Once it has finished warping you to the Intent, you and it should no longer be resisting each other right? It just seems logical that the less a Shard needs to change something, the less it will change. -
Bendalloy, cadmium savants and Compounders
The One Who Connects replied to Asasasyn in White's topic in Mistborn
I always figured compound boosted allomancy would be duralumin boosted over the duration of the burn, but pseudo-savantism seems a lot more balanced. -
The Ultimate List of Questions for Brandon
The One Who Connects replied to Chaos's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I feel as though that has gotten RAFO'd once, but it might have been long enough ago that he's decided that it doesn't give too much away/isn't an important plot point/he's settled on an answer. Edit: I can't seem to find it, so maybe I'm remembering wrong -
That's literally his second rule of magic in a nutshell. What the magic can't do drives the story forward. As for spren becoming multiple parts, I personally figured that they couldn't but without something directly confirming either way...

Thankfully, this is Chromium Feruchemy, which did exist. So there is no problem Edit: That sounded a bit rude, so I apologize. Also, could chromium have been a thing back in those days?

Want To Make A Video-Game With Me?
The One Who Connects replied to StormlightTheVideogame's topic in Stormlight Archive
I feel like the "make a mod" comment was posed due to the talking down of scale earlier. Starting with a mod is much less ambitious than a full game. It also has an established base to build off of, though you have already mentioned the limits that has.- 43 replies

What happens if Odium is defeated?
The One Who Connects replied to Naurock's topic in Stormlight Archive
This coming from @The One Who Connects. @The One Who Connects is denouncing connection. It defeats the purpose of the concept inhibiting Sazed from taking much action: People become molded to the Intent. If you have to match the intent to pick it up, that property of Investiture seems self-defeating. As for the name, it's a month younger than the WoR release date The irony is still funny -
What happens if Odium is defeated?
The One Who Connects replied to Naurock's topic in Stormlight Archive
I still feel like the "connection to the shard being needed" is kinda garbage. I personally think that Kel and Sazed's situation has to do with them (and all of Scadrial) being created directly by Ruin and Preservation Edit: I'm most likely wrong, but Sazed and Feruchemy are a neutral mix of both shards, so theres where the connections (pun not intended) started coming together -
Don't have something definitive about the sniper thing, but I feel the speed bubble would blur the scope/alter how you perceive the wind. Or something like that that makes long range unfeasible. Wax and Wayne are firing pistols at short range right? I'm pretty sure that the spear thing wouldn't work because as stated in that WoB: Objects are either inside or outside of the bubble, not both. This fact might affect aluminum bullets in a non-magical way, ie: to the bubble, they are objects first and aluminum second. Not really sure, just speculation on my part.

We Will See Gavilar Again?
The One Who Connects replied to SheSmiledAnyway's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Per the Coppermind: Source Problem being, he doesn't mention Eshonai. This WoB is from 2011, so take that as you will. Edit: So I, and the Coppermind, are using outdated information apparently. From this topic (Wiery's last post on last page) He doesn't say they will stay in this order, but it's a start. @Jondesu You ninja'd my edit with the newer source- 24 replies

In short: we don't have an explicit reason why. It just does. I'll edit in a "long answer" in a moment.. Scadrial: No Atium shadows [1], can't be pushed/pulled, shields from emotional allomancy, dead zones in time bubbles [2] Aluminum in a wound can stop A-Pewter and F-Gold healing [3] Sel: Can't be affected by Forgery, no info on if it affects Aons. Nalthis: Cannot be Awakened, can be used (somehow) to prevent someone from becoming a Returned. [4] Roshar: Can Soulcast into Aluminum, unknown if it them becomes immune. [5] Threnody: An Allomancer would be able to heal from the withering inflicted by a Shade by burning aluminium.[6] It may be possible for an aluminium savant to cleanse their spirit of unwanted effects of Investiture.[7] It isn't just allomantically inert, it is magically inert. Even acts like a heat sink for Investiture. (Investiture is the in-universe term for magical energy, but most of the characters don't know that, so it might be a new term)

Calinar's (Shard?)blade (WoR Spoilers)
The One Who Connects replied to Amaror's topic in Stormlight Archive
Source Source It's a different blade than the one Taln had in WoK. (They are even described differently iirc) Source Hoid did not switch the blades out, but he may be aware that they are switched. Nice speed Quiver. This is what I get for faulty memory and needing sources
