  1. While this might not actually relate to the conversation, if we compare reviving a Spren to respiking a Kandra... I feel like we can relate "speaking his oaths again" to "putting the spikes back in."
  2. Given that the minor/cousin spren as plate is still one of the popular ideas, I don't think there is a relevant WoB yet. Just check out any theory on how to make Shardplate. They either say some minor/paired spren or solidified Stormlight or something similar.
  3. I hereby apologize for that. It was not my intention to make it sound that way. Personally, I think pointing out and explaining misconceptions is a good thing, as it helps bring understanding. On the subject of understanding, your first and second paragraph fit pretty well with my limited understanding of Djar's general idea. That last sentence of paragraph 3 is an interesting idea. I don't think anyone's considered the limited cognitive being due to a focus on weaponry.
  4. They've nitpicked "he killed her to hide Type IV, not how to awaken steel" before, and my comment happened right afterwards. So I brought it here to preempt arguments/corrections with relevant sources. As for the expanded Method One, that gives off... Frankenstein vibes
  5. I like this. It adds on a lot of meaning to the discussion thread I made about the similar symbols a while back. It didn't really get anywhere, but I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed the symbols
  6. Well.. time to bring back a post I made a while back. Emphasis added. Type I is Returned and II is Lifeless, Type III was considered awakening anything else. Since the only example of Type IV is Nightblood, I imagine that Vasher/Shashara created that classification afterwards for Sentient Awakened Objects. Spool was going to nitpick it soon enough, so I'm getting it out of the way now. Type III Awakening is any and all non-sentient awakened object that isn't a Returned or a Lifeless. Type IV is anything a Type III can be, but sentient. Sentience is the only criteria Vasher/Shashara currently have for Type IV. Second, no argument. Third, that's something to ask Brandon/wait for Warbreaker 2 in however many years. For Method One, that's.. either ridiculous or clever. It would take a bit more hacking knowledge than anyone likely has at this point, but it sounds feasible. As for Method Two, I don't really know how to respond to that. It could work, but we don't know enough.
  7. If you are talking about this image, it isn't either option for #1 That makes it unlikely to be Ardents or Stone Shamans. It's probably the Kings alive during whatever era it is supposed to depict, maybe even the other Heralds. If this is not what you are talking about, please correct me on what image you mean. I'm not good with page numbers. paper/hardcover/e-book, etc..
  8. Word of warning: Far too much thought has went into this post. Hemalurgic Bind Points Marsh mentioned "between 200 and 300" bind points. Have you actually pinned down a hard number yet? If so, how many? Hard number or not, is it physically possible to spike every single bind point at the same time? Same idea, is it possible to spike in every Comsere power at the same time? If yes, is the number of Cosmere powers equal to the number of bind points? (He can avoid hard numbers here) How different is the Spiritweb of a human compared to a cat? Do different species have different Spiritweb configurations? If yes, does that limit the powers each different species can gain from Hemalurgy? If no (to either), can every sentient species spike in all of the different powers? We know the same power can be spiked into different bind points, can different powers be spiked into the same bind point? If yes, could a spike made from different "bands" of metal give multiple powers at once? Side query/elaboration, can any power be spiked into a given bind point, or do they have limits? Assuming limits, do those limits segregate magic systems? (Metallic Arts only point, Surgebinding only point, etc...) (Unusual Query) The Inquisitor spike to the heart through the chest, would it have still worked if it went to the heart through the back? Would it grant a different ability via different entrance point, or is the heart the important bind for Hemalurgy? (reword this later) Hemalurgic Linchpin Spike (Warning: Assumptions) Did Inquisitor's Linchpin Spike have to be between the shoulder blades or could it have worked in another bind point? More bluntly (or as another query), are Linchpin Spikes an integral concept, or do they just balance things out? Integral or balance, do Linchpin Spikes have to be specific powers? Is a Linchpin Spike needed based on where the spikes are, how many spikes there are, or something else? If based on location, is it a case by case basis? If possible, ask for an example. If how many, Koloss - 4, Inquisitor - 10/11+. Where in that gap is the "magic number?" (puns ) Is there a number of spikes where a second Linchpin would be needed? (double the prior number perhaps?) If something else, ask for elaboration. The Lord Ruler TLR knew all the metals, but some just weren't easily available at the time. Are there some that he did not use, and what might they be? You can ask if he didn't use them at all, or if he only used them for Feruchemy/Allomancy. He was limited in Atium Compounding through age. Since people die to health concerns due to old age rather than just from being old, could he have lived forever through gold compounding, or is he similarly limited? If he is limited, how so? What rule of science is he not allowed to break this time? Did TLR know all about Hemalurgy, or did Ruin only whisper to him about Kandra, Koloss and Inquisitors? Bit off topic, but did Ruin know how to spike away all other Cosmere powers before becoming Harmony? If not, is it because he hasn't seen/understood the other magic system yet? (Scholarly Sazed's worldhopping Kandra) Earth Science and Realmatics Are Invested objects more resistant to the destructive forces of nature? (weathering & erosion, rust(if applicable), lava, vacuum of space..) If yes, is there a change to testable physical properties like melting point/other? Edit: You were warned. This is only 11/12 base questions with the if yes/if no somewhat planned for. Nearly a pop quiz
  9. Guess I'm just reading too deeply into Szeth being able to despawn the Honorblade when he drops it
  10. Brandon has said.. interesting things on the subject of bonding the things. Case in point, compare the prior WoB with this one There are things that change, if only slightly. Given that he said this one only 6 days later, what do you interpret from it/them? Because I feel like I missed something important
  11. Here's a WoB to clear up some of the other points Cancels out 3 and 5 on the first one, 4 and 5 for the second one
  12. I am aware that Szeth is a special case, but isn't Stormlight healing slow? While they could probably heal faster than the average Radiant, a killing blow should still be a killing blow when it comes to a direct hit from a Thunderclast/Chasmfiend claw since they don't wear Plate. After having read both of your posts fully, I have a counter idea: Brandon (or Sazed.. not sure) mentioned that Vin was so strong in Allomancy because she subconsciously drew in a little mist. Perhaps they still use gems at high efficiency, but can draw on a little extra in moments of need? It would make them a bit more balanced overall, and it helps deal with a point nobody has brought up yet to my knowledge: Shards not wanting to directly use portions of their power. Assuming Honor considers them like champions for the Desolations, he might be willing to spare a small portion of his power, letting it replenish during the centuries until the next Desolation.
  13. Brandon said this back in 2011, so take that as you wish
  14. KR spren are supposed to be a mix of Honor/Cultivation investiture, perhaps Cuschiesh is the same way? Edit: 1 for Honor, 1 for Cultivation, 1 for Both.. that could fit with that quote about the Bondsmiths Breaking the 1 per arrangement when it comes to the Spren of Gods could potentially fit "seditious" if you look at it a certain way
  15. Not necessarily Mainly depends on if Dalinar goes back to the front lines as a warrior or not.
  16. Having reread the scene, I somewhat agree. It just didn't stick in my head as her losing that bad at first. If we go with Marianmi's idea of the Heralds being able to get Investiture straight from Honor, then Elend isn't comparable, but post-mistpoint Vin would be. It's an assumption yes, but one that spurs discussion. I more imagined wounds from a swing, mainly because of how Shardblades work. A "stab" wound just seems out of character for people acquainted with its limb-killing ability. Also, if they did stick one in him, couldn't he just take it out? No real argument on the last point, it makes sense. I don't know if Lashing based fighting style really favors multiple opponents, but that's not the point
  17. Regarding the first question: The line drawn between Single Target and AoE soothing/rioting is probably a matter of focus. You could have an aura around you like TLR does, but if you want something specific from someone you would likely need to pay attention to that. With enough willpower, you could probably keep the aura up while targeting someone specifically, but that would be difficult. In regards to the For Instance: If it is possible, I would probably put that in Savant territory. Either that, or a great deal more focus/effort than Breeze was willing to do (pouring a drink man.. ) I see the wording of the for instance as a different thing than the first part, because this part implies an advanced aura, rather than aura and specific targeting TLR has a lot of practice and power, Breeze has great precision and skill. I don't know if you really want to consider combining them.
  18. You're right. I was thinking too narrow when comparing Slicking and F-Steel. The grab comment is also an example of that single track thinking (still on the idea of outrunning him. My bad)
  19. You aren't the first, but I don't think the thread really decided for sure yet, so you could put in your two cents there if you want
  20. Here's a thought. None of the Inquisitors learned how to sense Feruchemy. "More with Less" granting better precision/skill (as we believe the Steel Bubble to be) fits with sensing the other systems easier, as Brandon has said that Feruchemy would be rather difficult, and the other magics aren't something they have a baseline bronze pulse for yet.
  21. I don't think Dalinar had Plate at the time, since he gave his to Renarin. Granted that fact could backfire the point of the next sentence, but oh well. Stormfather said to "divest yourself of that monstrosity you carry" and basically meant the dead Spren Shardblade
  22. Vin vs 13 Inquisitors comes to mind, and she had less strength than Elend (well.. Mistpoint is probably technically more) and she has nowhere near the Combat Experience the Heralds would have. Brandon has given his sly "I never said that was all they have" answer before, so they must have some additional abilities. Here's another thing in favor of the Heralds, not the KR: Shardplate. Szeth has consistently broke Plate faster with his Honorblade than standard Shardblades do, and if the chestpiece breaks, the suit is crippled pretty badly. Heralds lack this weakness completely, since they don't wear Plate. Edit: It's bullet points now because it got severely cluttered while typing it Stormlight healing and F-Gold work on much the same principles, so TLR could heal Shardblade wounds too. Actually, since he's got Double Gold, anything Miles can heal through, he can too. Do we know if F-Gold heals faster than Stormlight? That'd be an advantage to the one that does. Depending on the environment, A-Steel/Iron would give TLR decent enough air mobility to match the average Windrunner/Skybreaker (maybe not Szeth with his 5+ years of practice though). Steel compounding is limited in speed by wind resistance, so Abrasion surge could theoretically outrun him if they had means to speed up, but how are they supposed to grab him with no friction? Slicking works both ways. You know, if slicking worked on impacts and not just grabs, they would gain quite a defensive advantage. Edgedancer healing is probably more efficient than the other Orders, so that might be a contest of resource management at the end. We still don't know what Division actually does yet, so Skybreaker/Dustbringer could have an advantage Last point really boils down to if TLR carries weapons. If he doesn't, he's limited to brute force for killing blows. Double Pewter really plays to that, but he'd have to get in close no matter what That was a tirade. I'll sit down now.
  23. The stormwardens have to be generally right, otherwise they'd get fired or worse for failure. There was also this thread a little while back
  24. Given that they don't start out with Breath in the Nalthian sense, I imagine they would appear to be a regular person to start with. Short of Vasher himself teaching Sazed about how Breath works, I don't see a way around needing enough Breath for the aura. I feel like a Divine Breath would not look too different from having a mass of ordinary Breaths, purely because of artistic license on what i think the aura's look like Even if it does look a bit different, I doubt anything would come of it for a while. Other than the Returned, I don't think there are many people of the 5th Heightening. Anyone 3rd and lower wouldn't dare question one of the Returned out loud, and the other Returned seem fairly lazy enough to not care. There is another issue that would come up though; Kandra don't consume Breath, so the one a week would stack up. While the Returned wouldn't question the truth of the aura, they would notice it getting stronger as time went on. I can potentially solve that issue just as quickly, with a solution Sazed would approve of as well: having the Kandra learn how to awaken. Disclaimer: My 2 minute theories make assumptions and likely contain holes. Feel free to correct me on any inaccuracies.
