Here's the usual typo thread for White Sand Vol. 2, if you see any errors. Or, like in Vol. 1, dialogue being misattributed
-
In theory, White Sand Vol. 2 is out today, so here's a reaction topic. Several people have reported their copies from Amazon are out for delivery. Google Play still says February 21st. But hey, it's essentially out. What did you think?

Arcanum, the Brandon Sanderson Archive, Is Here!
Chaos replied to WeiryWriter's topic in Arcanum Discussion
Serack, Thanks for the kind words. The software will be open source soonish and you could install it yourself -
We heard Variety report this in May 2017, and we have seen many teasers on Facebook and Twitter. But yesterday, Arcturus officially announced the Escape from the Shattered Plains VR experience. It will be out for the HTC Vive, and it will be released March 2nd for $10.99. In this experience, you'll take the role of Kaladin, meet Syl, encounter a highstorm, use some Lashings, and fight some Parshendi. Brandon says in a statement: "“I am beyond excited to finally be able to present this VR experience of The Way of Kings after many months of long, hard work from the teams at DMG and Arcturus. It’s the first time my fans will be able to experience a thrilling adventure in Roshar and see what it’s like to be in the Shattered Plains.” This short form adaptation is written by Joshua Rubin, the lead writer behind games such as Destiny and Assassin's Creed. You can watch the trailer below: There does seem to be some gameplay mechanics from the trailer, with some sort of rudimentary Lashing system, and some sort of fighting mechanics, but I would not expect these to be extremely fleshed out as they would be in a game. Additionally, if you're not familiar with VR, generally the graphical fidelity is worse than standard games because it has to render more for both eyes. Keep that in mind when watching the trailer. Generally, VR experiences are rather short and are very much not complete games. According to the Variety report (which was in May, so this could have changed), the experience is merely 15 minutes long. This has been in development since March of last year and has reportedly cost "seven figures" to make. DMG Entertainment, the people who hold the movie rights to the cosmere (and, in particular, Stormlight), wanted this made mostly to create hype for Hollywood executives so they could understand how cool Roshar is. I think in that context this makes a lot of sense--it isn't really for us, but if you have a Vive, you can do this experience too.

I think that's a consequence of Brandon having them wear white in the prose and not changing it for the graphic novel. Them wearing the same outfit was not a good choice. Yeah, those date moves really kill the hype. No it won't be a video podcast next week. I still need to learn how to video edit.

I have removed the OB Spoiler widget. We are still in the OB spoiler period but I don't think we require the spoiler widget globally across the site now. As a note, OB questions are allowed in Cosmere Q&A when it is has the relevant tag.

We're back, and this week we're reading White Sand Volume 1, the graphic novel, in anticipation for Volume 2 which comes out February 20th. We discuss everything that happened, our feelings on the transition to a graphic novel and its quality, analysis of the magic (as you no doubt expect), and what we expect after the three volumes of the graphic novel are finished. Let's talk about spoilers. There will be discussion of the unpublished, White Sand prose version, but we don't talk about big plot points and we stay focused on Volume 1's stuff. But the prose version colors our impression of Taldain, and it's important we talk about how and why that is. Today we have Eric (Chaos), Ian (WeiryWriter), and David (Windrunner). Next week we will have a Very Special Episode, so stay tuned.

Yeah, just be calm and respectful, thank you

I do agree that people shouldn't take opinion as fact but you can chill, please. You don't need to be rude and make your point in all caps. Relax a little. We are all friends here.

This is not relevant to 17th Shard Site Discussion, so I have moved this to Mistborn, I guess.
-
This is it. We finally finished talking about the Oathbringer Tour Words of Brandon. We start with getting on a high horse on effective discourse, and then we talk about Urithiru being a spaceship, and of course, much more. We hope you've enjoyed these, but we are sure excited to do some new stuff too. This week we have Kerry (KChan), Eric (Chaos), Ian (WeiryWriter), and David (Windrunner). See you next week for some non-WoB stuff!

Yeah that's totally incorrect. I do believe there is some confirmation that the Red Rip and Taln's Scar are the same. I seem to recall that. All of these in my opinion should just be moved to a page on The Scar, which we saw in Arcanum Unbounded as appearing like that. That seems very safe to me and I do think there's confirmation of those being the same. There should not be three different pages for this: they should all be The Scar. All of the stuff after the Appearance should definitely be deleted. I guess the Starbelt could be on a page of its own... Edit: Here's a reference for them being the same, first result on searching Red Rip https://wob.coppermind.net/events/36/#e1478

How is that different from writing "Shard's intent"? It's generally very clear from context. That issue is not really even an issue, honestly. For the latter, write "A Shard's intention" or something for their action. That's a minor matter. I'm sorry, I don't agree that just because people have been flippant with capitalization over the past few years that we should accept that. We should not have a fanon word that is written like a canonical term when the things are not the same. That's not okay, in my opinion. Many don't even know intent isn't even canonical. I will make sure people know of the importance of not capitalizing this, and you bet on the wiki and Arcanum it will never will be capitalized for a Shard's name.
-
Okay! There is no instance of intent ever being capitalized referring to a Shard. The one time Brandon himself wrote it was in a Hero of Ages annotation which lowercase. The only time Intent capital-I has been written was said in Oathbringer and it did not refer to a Shard's intent. I don't know when people thought it was good to capitalize this word but I certainly didn't in the Principle of Intent and haven't since. To be perfectly honest, it is actively incorrect to call it Intent as capital-I Intent doesn't refer to a Shard's name at all. As long as you're okay with being totally wrong with the canonical usage, then go for it, but it is incorrect Leading the conversation, transitions, and such.

Many in Firefight Chicago are incorrectly spaced. If you see event with a lot of these let's just list the event rather than the individual entries.

This week we are continuing our adventure through the Oathbringer Tour Words of Brandon, and Ian and I fight again on the interpretation of intent. We got our Shardblades out; it was an epic duel! Tune in now. (Okay, it wasn't that spectacular, but hopefully it was entertaining!) Kerry returns as the one true host, and joining her is Eric (Chaos), Ian (WeiryWriter), and David (Windrunner). We also have a special guest: Kerry's phone, which went off a few times. We're all very professional. There will be one more of these next week, and it's also over an hour long too.

I'll try and test and see if I can't fix, but this is a built in Twitter widget, so it might just be their fault.

opinion [OB] What topic do you feel has been discussed to death?
Chaos replied to MonsterMetroid's topic in Stormlight Archive
Well, there are definitely quite a few people here who would identify themselves as shippers, and that's totally fine. It's also totally fine if someone doesn't want to be referred to as that. Shippers are welcome here. Character discussion and relationship discussion is valuable. If people don't like to discuss this stuff (or "shipping" threads) that's also fine, but here, I won't allow the word shippers to be a pejorative, and I shall smite people who do use it as such! Important edit: Obviously, I have no control over the rest of the internet -
It's a twitter created widget, so honestly, it's on Twitter's end. But I suspect something is wrong with your setup somehow, as it loads on everything I have access to, which is a lot. Details? OS, Browser, browser extensions?

Negative ranks are not possible. One will be updated, but I dunno, I kind of like for people to discover what's next and be pleasantly surprised rather than have a list in one place. People worked really hard on figuring them all out and I wouldn't want to deprive them of that fun discovery Ranks will be rescaled appropriately to deal with the high end. If Brandon posted more, then he'd accumulate rep extremely rapidly, but he almost never goes onto his logged in account. Ranks are given purely by what their rep is, and Brandon's moves, so I'd always have to change it. It doesn't work that way.

poll [OB] Who do you want to use Nightblood in battle?
Chaos replied to Lord Mistborn Bondbreaker's topic in Stormlight Archive
We saw you edit your original poll, and that's not cool. That's very much bad behavior. People are entitled to like certain things that you don't like, and you should be way more respectful about that. You don't get to troll, and you're not clever for sneakily changing it. For those of you who don't know, this was poll was edited from its original state to this one and it was originally very disrespectful to people who enjoy shipping discussion. I am closing this topic. Also, add [OB] in the topic title on OB stuff. -
opinion [OB] What topic do you feel has been discussed to death?
Chaos replied to MonsterMetroid's topic in Stormlight Archive
I should have mentioned this before, but I just want to be clear that attacking other people isn't allowed. No one here is doing that. People are certainly allowed to have their opinions. People are allowed to really want to talk about Shalladin, people are allowed to not want to do that. I think this thread is all in good taste and there's no malice involved on anything, but I just wanted to make that clear. People are entitled to opinions and we don't want to silence them. There's a difference between going into a thread you aren't interested in and stifling discussion--by saying something like "ugh really why even bother," which is obviously not cool--and saying "this theory keeps popping up and I'm kind of tired of it" in a separate thread. Just like it's very different from saying "wow X person needs to shut up, their ideas are stupid." See the difference? I don't think we should really silence some complaints, as there's a big difference with complaining about ideas versus complaining about people. Let's make sure this thread doesn't go past that. It's totally cool people love the A/S/K thread. It's also fine for people to think that it goes in circles. I think those are valid opinions that are allowed to be voiced and no one here is attacking people on either side there. Of course, this thread is about more than that, but I just wanted to make that clear.- 106 replies

This week, we are delving into the Words of Brandon from the Oathbringer tour (and Brandon's two holiday signings in Utah). There's so much to talk about, especially from the London signing, so we brought Ben--Overlord Jebus--to help us analyze this stuff. There's so much to talk about though that we recorded three episodes worth of content for the Oathbringer tour, and they are meaty ones. Our goal, of course, is to inform you about cool facts as well as analyze, so we hope you like it. Full spoilers for all the cosmere in this episode. We're doing everything! As always, you can go to Arcanum for all your quote needs. If you'd like to help transcribe, you can! Check out our forum and Discord for information on that. Our cast today is Eric (Chaos), Ian (WeiryWriter), David (Windrunner), and Ben (Overlord Jebus). Unfortunately David and Ben's audio was quite poor so I had to use our Skype audio for this, which is of worse quality. I tried to get the volume levels correct and it isn't perfect, so... I know. We'll see you next week for way more quotes. There will be a third installment, too, but we might split that one up with another episode so you don't get bored.

Delightful, I'm not sure what that error means. Maybe it's too big, I don't know. Please email me the image in question to [email protected] and I will try and figure out what's going on. Sorry about that.
