  1. Technically, there was never any firm release date, so it never really "slipped," in my book. It's not like certain other authors we could mention...
  2. Wait, requires moderation? Ugh, that shouldn't be the case. I'll fix that this weekend.
  3. I believe I have fixed this for the Reckoners Art category. Sorry about the delay. Let me know if you still cannot upload here.
  4. I should have been much better about centralizing discussion, but yes, we did need to focus on tagging things properly. Like the Introduce Yourself subforum? There isn't a subforum for that? It is my impression that if you have the permissions set to be able to view a topic, you will see the topic in the Recent Topics list. We have a few different permission masks--staff have a Staff Board where we discuss things, and you don't see those in the topic ticker--but we've wanted the site to be quite egalitarian. If it's public knowledge, it should be discussable. The unpublished works are difficult because you can receive them, but not in the way that you can buy or download or distribute it freely. So I mean, obviously I can set up a system of restricted access, but it is implementing restrictions in a way that people don't get spoiled, and also, so people without the manuscript don't get angry at people who do have the manuscript. There is a subset of people that are extremely angry that some people (like me, for example) are a beta reader, and we make a point to not even mention it. You'd only know that in the book itself, our review (which make it obvious someone has an early copy), or I guess if you directly ask me. Like, people genuinely get upset. The forum for unpublished stuff has to be separate and not directly accessible from the general populace, because people will be angry that these people have this thing and they don't. Though it is relatively easy to get White Sand, it's not the same as, say, the Liar of Partinel sample chapters. The people getting angry do have a point, though. The forum would need to be restricted, and so if not using permission mask trickery, it'd probably be a password. I imagine the complete the sentence idea is very, very good and is the simplest. I don't think we'd unpassword it, ever, unless the full manuscript is actually distributed by Brandon. We have permission to allow discussion of the prose version, as well as for another thing (thanks Peter!). It is the implementation of doing it correctly that is difficult. This matter is further difficult because we only get portions of the graphic novel at a time, instead of everything. That means there will be inherent segregation in that people who have read the prose version know the ending (though the graphic novel ending is a revised version of the prose). So I guess that kind of settles my thoughts. It has to be two separate boards. I am thinking there will be a Taldain/White Sand board that is the public board, much like the main Mistborn board. No prose spoilers there. Then, in a subforum, there would be the passworded White Sand prose version board. Does that seem reasonable? I guess I was making it harder than it seems. No overlap will need to suffice. Our initial idea was to have an Unpublished Cosmere Works forum containing White Sand and the other manuscript you can get from Team Sanderson, but Taldain is actually a real thing, so we'll place the White Sand prose subforum in the Taldain forum.
  5. Okay, now I am depressed I do think him having more time is good--being on the inside a bit and can see into the process--but yeah, that is... a long time.
  6. Honestly, we have wanted to make such forums, but there are two factors in my mind. The first thing is how do we close off access to unpublished works if people don't have the book? I don't want them spoiled. Having a password might be the way but then we have to send it out to people manually. Not ideal. More pressing to White Sand is how would you segregate discussion of the prose version versus the graphic novel? There will be differences between the two (they will surely not be the same). At the same time, the prose version is relevant to discuss. I am not sure how the split should go. I would like to steer this topic towards suggestions regarding how to do this. Our internal discussions have not led to ideal solutions. There may not be an ideal solution. But since we have to figure this out fairly rapidly, let's have this be that discussion topic. Obviously we require a White Sand forum.
  7. We have been insanely busy at Hoid's Secret Base (or the 17th Shard HQ) recently, so we have a huge deal of news to talk about. Today, we will be talking about a more precise Stormlight 3 release date (it's later than you would like), a sweet, sweet preview of the White Sand graphic novel, and the second printing of the Elantris leatherbound which you can order right now. Stormlight Three Now to be Released Fall 2017 Revealed in the Calamity signing in Houston, Texas, Stormlight 3 will now be out in 2017. This is a bit later than the State of the Sanderson 2015 implied initially. In that older post, Brandon thought we would see it in Fall 2016, with the caveat that his team warned him that that would not be realistic, and so we would see it in 2017 instead. I am sure many of you were hoping on an early 2017 release, but it appears that it will be Fall 2017. This, I am sure, is disappointing. You might wonder why it is taking so long, and why Brandon has so many other projects on his plate. I would like to say that Brandon was extremely rushed on both Way of Kings and Words of Radiance. I think we would all prefer that he gets these huge, colossal books correct, and not have him need to change the ending, like he did with Words of Radiance. All this means is that even if the first draft gets done this summer, there needs to be a lot of revision and editing to make sure he gets it right. As for why he works on other projects, he's said many times that working on other books keeps him fresh. If he didn't write other books, that wouldn't actually speed up him writing Stormlight 3. We would just have times where we don't get any Brandon stories at all. I think this all works out, in the end. White Sand Preview, Coming in June io9 has posted an extensive (and exclusive) preview of the White Sand graphic novel, which is set in the cosmere on a planet called Taldain. This was the story that Brandon wrote that got him his agent, Joshua Bilmes, but was never published. Now we see more of it, and it's pretty cool. We get to see a ton of pages from White Sand, and the first volume is coming out in June! Exciting. White Sand's graphic novel is being produced by Dynamite Entertainment, with writer Rik Hoskin, artist Julius Gopez, and colorist Ross Campbell transforming the source material into the graphic novel format. You can be sure we will keep you updated on our first look into this important planet. (It's where the Ars Arcanum author is from!) Elantris Leatherbound Back in Stock We knew the Elantris Anniversary Leatherbound Edition would come back in stock eventually. It is a little later than we expected, but it is at last back in stock on Brandon's store! The last ones sold out rapidly, so you'll want to get on this one quickly, I imagine. It is a second edition, but this leatherbound is so incredible, it is absolutely gorgeous. I could not recommend it more as the definitive version of Elantris. If my apartment ever burns down and I take one belonging out of my house, it'd probably be my copy of this. Seriously.
  8. Could use some more modern Android design rather than the old holo design language, but looks nice Buttttt if it was a material design app, I would be extremely happy.
  9. Please send me a list of the offending ones and I will deal with them. I haven't really done much discussion so I have not noticed.
  10. They are and there is no plans to alter them at this time. These will in place until you hear something else. I'm not sure what would indicate that this was temporary.
  11. Is this all on iPad?
  12. I don't have an iPad or tablet to particularly test this. However, it will be fixed in the next version as there will be a special tablet version of the site.
  13. This is not Entertainment Discussion. I am moving this to General Discussion.
  14. I will consider but Cosmere Theories has a different spoiler policy than elsewhere. It is helpful to have the spoiler policy be relatively frictionless there.
  15. I am going to be rephrasing the Cosmere Theories part of the spoiler guidelines, as it should be allowed to discuss such spoilers in there now.
  16. Cosmere Theories is now allowed to have spoilers as it is beyond the 2 weeks. So, yeah, there will be Bands and Secret History spoilers, as I think is reasonable. In Cosmere Theories beyond the strict time (which was two weeks after release) spoilers are allowed without tagging, for proper discussion. This is crazy awesome and I love you for getting this, as I've asked a bunch of questions about the weapon. So dang. I can't believe he responded to that. Awesome. I'll mull on this.
  17. I mean that is not confirmed in any way and, from my knowledge in Mistborn forums, is not the forum consensus. Big assumption!
  18. I neither agree nor disagree with your main thrust. In fact, I tend to think that the Wayne POV near the start of Bands is just him being too silly and it went on too long. It detracted from the book, in my opinion, and could have been cut in half and fine. I generally like Wayne just fine. I know Brandon is very fond of Wayne and I am going to be honest, I do think that early Wayne scene is not good and it was a darling he needed to cut. But he liked it, so eh. However, aside from your main thrust about Wayne, I must comment on this statement. Freedom of speech is very specific thing (in the United States) regarding government censorship. This absolutely does not apply on this forum, or basically any internet discussion ever because they are privately owned entities. Unless the government is censoring it, then freedom of speech is not a defense that can be made. It is not relevant and is a perversion of that idea. Private entities have a lot of freedom in what content they allow or not allow on their sites, their buildings, etc. I am not commenting or making judgment calls about this thread. (Your last post was reasonable, but the original post is harsh) But it is a pet peeve of mine is people who make an unpopular opinion and cite freedom of speech. People totally get to not like an opinion. Additionally though I see that you want to make this Wayne haven, as I said, you don't really "own" anything here, so that attitude rubs me the wrong way. People can comment if they so choose. Not that I'm taking down the thread or anything. It's fine. For 17th Shard, we wouldn't censor something unless it was really offensive or in other specific circumstances. (For example, we hid topics regarding the existence of Secret History as that was an extension of Brandon's will.) Opposing viewpoints are of course welcome. Viewpoints that are respectful are always productive. So, I would say that people could comment, but if they like Wayne, they should be respectful of your opinion. If they don't like Wayne, then great, you have support here! Most I imagine will be in the middle. Anyway, I'm going to stop blabbing, but now we learned something about freedom of speech, so yay!
  19. I think the balance of topic titles was fine this time around.
  20. The answer to your question is yes, go for it, but a more official policy will come later. I am too tired to say more specifics now. So go for it. (Sorry, I know it has been two weeks. The head admin team has actually been that busy. This is all volunteer done and so when we have very long work weeks, sometimes we would rather sleep than making forum policy. I hope you understand.)
  21. I have not had time to investigate, sorry...
  22. Please review spoiler policy here http://www.17thshard.com/news/brandon-news/bands-of-mourning-release-spoiler-policies-mi-r247 I have tagged this thread appropriately now and moved it.
  23. Moving this to Secret History board due to spoiler policy http://www.17thshard.com/news/brandon-news/bands-of-mourning-release-spoiler-policies-mi-r247
  24. I have been very busy and haven't made an official decision yet. Sorry for the delay. We are discussing exactly what policy we should have regarding this
  25. “Whaaaat? I’m so lost. What’s going on? Brandon, you’re yanking me! I’m getting yanked over here!” After a brief break to let everyone gnaw on their new copies of Bands of Mourning for a little while, Splintercast returns to keep going through Shadows of Self! A quick reminder that there are to be no spoilers for Bands of Mourning or Secret history discussed in the comments, even under spoiler tags, until the spoiler ban is lifted. Thank you! We left Wax at a fancy party in the middle of a very interesting conversation, while Wayne and Marasi attempt to lend support. And then a new kind of support comes in, for which I am incredibly excited. Have you guys caught on yet that I love references to the original series? Because I definitely do. Please enjoy, and tell me what you think in the comments down below!
