Dr. Who Octopus looked up with a frown. It seemed that he was under attack.

Unable to see the attacker, he released a few bolts of energy in their general direction.

Q simply dodged, skepticism replacing curiosity. She held out her ivory knife and sliced her palm, but instead of blood trickling out, it was smoke. The smoke swirled, her veins slowly starting to turn black. The smoke immediately healed the cut she made, then made its way up to where smoke was streaming from her eyes, making a mask of smoke in front of her face.

"Alright then," she said through the mask of smoke, the distorted voice purring. "We'll play that way."

She shot from behind cover, moving with inhuman speed towards the guard Melody had hit. In a flash, she cleanly cut through the guard's neck, their blood spraying onto her face.

Melody dodged and whacked another guard, getting out of the guard's vicinity quickly after.

"So," called Dr. Who Octopus. "You have found me."

He moved fluidly, two of his arms extending to carry him into the air- the rest transforming into a variety of sharp blades and sleek barrels. Without any additional fanfare, he opened fire.

Q grinned at Ellis, although he couldn’t see it, then turned to slash the neck of the guard Melody. Once again, blood spurt onto her clothes and face. She let go of her knife, then grabbed it in a reverse grip. Crouching, she watched all the guards while keeping an eye on Ellis, seeing which one Melody would strike next. She looked to be excited, enjoying it even. Her eyes showed so much emotion, yet so little at the same time.

The arm flicked up, meeting Ellis's blade with a cascade of its own.

Melody opted to keep from attacking the octopus, instead whacking another guard.

Dr Who Octopus fired a few more blasts at both Melody and Q.

Q growled, flicking her hand up. Sharp black ribbons of pure energy shot from her hands, wrapping themselves around the blasts of energy. Bringing her hand in, the blasts held into the ribbons.

Dr. Who Octopus turned, focusing on Q specifically with a barrage of firepower.

"Now this is more like it!" she said with a mad grin, her voice becoming more and more distorted by the second.

The smoke poured out of her, not only shrouding her from any fire, but it seemed to cause her veins to turn into a deeper black. With that, the sharp ribbons sprouted from her back, striking to absorb any bit of firepower aimed at her. As the ribbons were zipping to protect her, Q dodged and sidestepped every attack made at her from the guards with inhuman speed, softly singing a tune as she did so.

"There is a green hill on the moor," her distorted voice sang softly, madness creeping in. "One where the red fern grows. It is the green hill of lore, but there is wonders and magic galore. Listen to the breeze, listen to the song it sings. As you watch with ease, you'll see your dreams dancing on the melody."

Ellis stole his chance, rushing forwards and stabbing at Dr. Who Octopus's body proper.

One of Dr. Who Octopus's arms continued to fight Ellis.

"Hey! Leave her alone!" Melody yelled, bringing her sword down on another guard.

The arm gestured urgently at the portal.

Dr. Who Octopus narrowed his eyes.

From within one of his arm emerged a blade that could not be seen- not because it bent light away from itself, but because it bent space away from itself. He swung it, and a ripple flowed outwards towards Q.

She was oblivious to the blade, being occupied by the guards. It hit her, catching her off-guard as she [insert side effects for le blade since I am unfamiliar with them].

It's not that idk what the blade is, it's just that idk what the blade is.

The blade rips space apart. So it would cut straight through her, disregarding armor/protections.

Spoiler

In the dark night sky, a green-tinged star fell from the sky. Straight toward the skirmish below.

This looks fun! Uh... I kinda assumed it was night, I read back a bit but not too far  How much do I need to know?

EDIT: In the dark night, a completely unremarkable shooting star streaked across the sky. It was super pretty.

I'll just jump in as the "friendly NPC" when they get back in time :P, thanks @xinoehp512

They're trying to get to the portal so they can travel back in time. (It might be better if your character appears in the past, actually.)

Kk gotcha. Pain. I can write pain. *cracks knuckles* That’s what Q is made of. Ima just do some rewriting, and it’s probably going to be a bit long since no one is up to stop me from doing this.

Q danced around the field, killing anyone that stood in her way and didn’t know. She slashed their necks and stabbed their chests, mostly keeping to those places. She didn’t care how much blood she was getting on her, she didn’t care if she was breaking the one thing she promised herself long ago, and she didn’t care whether or not they had anything to live for. They were hurting the people she wanted to protect from... him. She would do everything in her power to not let them fall into the hands of death, even if that meant tapping into her power more so than before. It wasn’t going to be a repeat of when she broke out, but it looked to be getting pretty close to that.

It was watching the hands of Death at work, sending people to their demise without another thought. She knew they deserved it, even though she might not think the same in the next couple of days. Her twin blades were flashes of light and darkness, spraying blood when they found targets. This was what she was meant to do; it was what she was trained for. Most of her life has been devoted to using her powers for good, although that line has been getting fuzzier and fuzzier as the days and years went on. All that mattered right now was killing those who stood to oppose her and the people she protected.

Laughter filled the air. Her own mad laughter.

It’s been a long time since they’ve done something like this. It’s been far too long since she let him free, even for a little bit. Q knew the costs and knew what would happen to her if she allowed him to use her for too long, but this was for the people she practically swore to protect. Sacrifice came with being someone like her, and she knew that too well. She sacrificed a lot to just live every day, and sometimes people never took that for granted or they were already dead to appreciate what she was doing for them. But by then, it was already too late.

It didn’t matter now.

She had power, and she was going to––

CRACK

Something broke through her shroud, and it was too late to react.

Something sliced cleanly through her protection, impaling her in the back, her scars flaring with pain.

Q gasped, the power suddenly being sapped away, as if something was eating away at it. It tore through her, making her feel pain that she could’ve never imagined. The pain reminded her too much of the time with... him. It ate through her, seeming to devour the very space within her and more. It didn’t fade, no, the pain came in huge wave, much like what her PTSD was like at times.

It heaved on her, begging her to give in and to just give up. It beckoned her to fall into that same darkness that tempted her every single day to give up. It wanted her to just give in to the pain, give into what more it has, and perhaps avoid it at all costs.

She fell to her knees, the black fading away from her eyes to reveal her normal sapphire. They were terrified. They looked everywhere, anywhere, for something or someone of comfort, but all she could see was death and chaos. They couldn’t find anything, eventually leading to tears streaming. Even if there weren’t a blade––or whatever it was––impaled in her, she wouldn’t have enough strength to go on. It wasn’t until her eyes fell on Melody was when she opened her mouth to try and speak, but all that came out was coughing and blood.

“Melody,” she rasped with enough command as she could manage, knives falling from her grip.

Everything was getting darker and more painful by the second. She didn’t know how long she had, but she had enough strength to get this word out before the black took over the sapphire. Before she...

“Run.”

With that last word out, Q ran out of strength and fell to the ground, her sapphire gaze––now turning black––staring into nothing.
