"Yeah sorry about... punching you in the face with a fireball."

"That was... you?" says Elaine, confused. "I thought it was... him." She points at Nathrangking.

Jaxevist turns and looks at the man with narrowed eyes for a moment.

"We'll sort that out later," he says finally. "We should get back to Universe Hexagon first." He takes her hand and helps her to her feet, offering her his shoulder to lean on. "All the rest of you- the gate is straight down the tunnel. Follow me, although you probably can't miss it."

Wordlessly and without expression Baalhan and I follow. As I do I dismiss my blade of light. After a few moment my expression softens. "I'm sorry for the pain that I caused you Elaine. Even one as old has I has much to learn about restraint and humility. In this you are my teacher." I stop and bow. "If you should ever have need of my aid speak I shall render it."

"Let's go! Explore some more Universes! Yeah!"

That was surprisingly exuberant. Icona notes.

Trying to stay upbeat for the crew, right? Fadran replies.

Queen gathered the bloodied bandages and the wood she used for the splint, put them back into her toolbelt, then stood up, giving a determined nod. Although she had no idea where they were going, she finally felt like she belonged somewhere again.

I hope these guys really are trustworthy. Tchanta mumbled in her head. I'd hate it if we were betrayed again.

Tchanta's doubts weren't echoed in Q's thoughts. Although she would never trust anyone as much as she had trusted Journey, she could tell that these people would help her.

Elaine looks at him with kind eyes. "Thank... you."

The Worldgate opens up into a mind-bendingly tall cavern, roughly circular in shape and surprisingly thin in diameter. Hexagonal shapes of varying sizes tile the walls. Some seem to be houses of some sort, with doors and windows. Others are fully open, Hyxali flying in and out of them, crossing paths in an endless stream of workers and drones. They don't look as human as Elaine, with mandibles jutting out from their jaw and pieces of exoskeleton on their arms and legs.

Elaine breathes a sigh of relief as soon as they pass through and stops leaning on Jakevist's shoulder. "Much better," she says, breathing in deeply.
"Welcome to Outpost One," says Jakevist, turning to make sure everyone makes it through the Gate.

Q felt all the air leave her lungs. She had never seen anything like this before, and she wondered if this was truly real or if it was just a dream.

Tchanta, she thought to the mouse-like creature in her hat. Pinch me so I can be sure that I'm not dreaming.

Sending a wave of laziness, Tchanta replied, I don't feel like leaving your hat, so this'll have to do. Queen felt a sharp tug on a strand of her hair, reminding her of a movie she had watched in her younger years, Ratatouille.

OUCH! Queen was shocked at the strength of the small creature. Well, I guess I'm not dreaming. You didn't need to pull that hard, though!

Sorry. Q could feel Tchanta's sarcasm. Had to make you certain of your awakedness.

Vapor follows, gaping at the sight. The man awkwardly follows behind.

“Don’t you see them?” The girl’s eyes were wide with panic. An arm began to reach for her, smoky black tendrils curling off of it like steam.

“No, sorry” Emi answered nervously. “How do they look?”

So some plot happened while you were away, namely that @Truthless of Shinovar joined us. I’ve put all of the new posts in the spoiler tag below, but in short, his character Velles saw our characters being attacked (the attackers were changed to giant vine birds instead of shadows) and fought them off, but now he’s injured.

Spoiler
On 06/07/2020 at 7:00 AM, Truthless of Shinovar said:

Velles walked into the place... whatever it was. He couldn’t quite recall how he got here. He remembered walking down a street in Srenalsia, feeling bored. Flashing lights sat on the edge of his memory, but his mind would go no further than that.

“Hello?” he called out.  “Is anybody here?”

On 09/07/2020 at 4:55 AM, Truthless of Shinovar said:

Velles looked around. A city. But... empty. Everything around him stood in ruin. Whoever had lived here was gone.

Wandering around the streets, he noticed something odd. Vegetation had slowly taken a grip on this land. Vines crisscrossed up the sides of skyscrapers. Moss coated the streets, and trees planted in the middle of once-busy roads were monstrously overgrown.

And then... Velles heard something. Scraping, scrambling, the desperate click of claws on pavement of a predator rushing towards prey. How did he know this? Velles searched his mind, but nothing came.

Velles felt he should run. His body screamed at him to move, that these vital seconds could mean the difference between life and death. But, almost against his will, Velles began charging towards the sound. He couldn’t say why. But something deep inside of him said to do it.

Velles turned the corner and saw what had been making the noise. Two giant birds, perhaps as tall as he was, hunched over, beaks clacking. Limbs were bent at odd angles, giving the birds an overall grotesque look. They had four claws each, talons wicked and sharp. And as Velles looked closer, he noticed something. Vines. They covered patches of the birds skin, made up a ligament of a leg here, or part of the scalp there. There were gaps between the vines, and as Velles looked into one of the birds, he could distinctly see the heart.

It wasn’t beating.

Velles let out a curse, one he wasn’t familiar with, yet it rolled off his tongue like he had said it a thousand times before. This didn’t look good. The bird’s prey–

Velles gasped. Two women. Actual people. Maybe the city wasn’t deserted after all. They looked scared and shocked, and so Velles did what felt strangely natural. He let out a yell, trying to draw the birds’ attention to himself. Three eyes snapped towards him. One of the bird only had vines dangling out from an eye socket. Letting out soft clicking noises from their beaks, they began to make their way towards Velles.

Without understanding why, Velles began to focus on... something. He wasn’t for sure what it was. But it was around him. In him. It was him.

And then, to Velles’ surprise, both his arms disappeared. Even as another gasp escaped his lips, his body dropped towards the ground, lowering his shoulders into the concrete. As he stood back up, giant concrete arms rose with him. Broad and muscular, they almost brushed the ground.

The birds seemed surprised as well. After halting for a moment, one clicked a quick rhythm to the other, and both of them began to speed up. Velles charged to meet them.

As Velles reached the first one, it sprung over him, a quick flap of its leafy wings taking it a short distance behind Velles. The other remained in front of Velles. Velles swung out his concrete arm, aiming for the bird’s beak. It ducked, but just a little to slow. Velles’ fist clipped the beast on its beak before slamming into the ground. The thing didn’t even flinch.

Both the birds jumped at him at once. Velles managed to lift his fist out of the ground and swung it around to knock the one behind him. The impact made a distinct thump, and the bird went flying backwards. Unfortunately, the other bird landed right on top of Velles.

Velles formed an x with his arms, keeping the bird’s striking claws and beak away from his body. The vines from the eye socket dangled close enough to brush Velles face. I wonder...

Velles make the decision in an instant. He somehow let he left arm fall off, no longer attached to his body. The bird, expecting to hit solid rock once again, lost its balance. The vines tipped towards Velles, and he swung out his right arm, made a fist, and slammed it into the eye socket.

Letting out an awful screech, the bird began to thrash wildly, talons striking out at random. Velles reached deeper and deeper, following the vine with his long arm. As soon as his elbow entered into the eye socket, he grabbed the vine and yanked.

A noise a hundred times worse than the screeches the bird had been making left its beak. It rose up on its back two talons swayed for a moment then fell back, dead. The other bird, seeing its companion fall, let out a screech, and then flew away.

In Velles’ hand, he still held the vine. At the end, there was a mass of green, still wriggling and squirming. It leaked a black ooze, and seemed to be trying to detach itself from the vine. Velles stepped up to it, then slammed down a concrete fist on it. Then again. And again. He kept on slamming down on that mass, black ooze erupting from it.

Finally, Velles stepped back, breathing deep. He took one last deep breath and then... released his right arm. Once again armless, Velles Focused, and his actual arms appeared. It was only then that he realized that he was covered in dozens of gashes, from the bird’s final thrashing. He was bleeding, hard. Several of his wounds felt quite deep.

Lightheaded, he turned to the women. He must of looked horrifying, covered in the black and red fluids. “I’m Velles,” he said. “Who are you guys?”

The nightmare birds lay sprawled on the ground, red blood and black ooze mottling their horrid forms. The girl shuffled closer to Emi.

The strange man with the stone-but-not-stone-arms fixed his bloodied gaze on her, and she flinched. She put a hand to her mouth as her stomach heaved, but nothing came out. She hadn’t eaten in... It didn’t matter now.

“I’m Velles,” the man said. “Who are you guys?”

The girl stared back at him inquisitively. She took in his ragged appearance, and the myriad of angry cuts and bruises and gashes with bright red red blood, flowing fast fast down and down, rivers of blood too wide and deep, and it was like when...

When...

Far away, a man screaming.

Blood on her hands.

“You monsters, what have you done?”

The girl blinked, surprised to find tears in her eyes. She was still in the abandoned city, with Emi next to her and the other man... Velles. She wiped them away, hoping no one noticed, before remembering his question. She replied honestly.

“I don’t know.”

On 10/07/2020 at 0:16 AM, Truthless of Shinovar said:

“Huh,” Velles said. “I can’t either.” The girl seemed to be weeping, though why, Velles couldn’t tell. He hoped it wasn’t his appearance. He would need to find a way to get the mess off of him.

Velles, dizzy, sat down on a nearby boulder. “Are either of you good healers?” he asked. “This blood loss will get the best of me if I don’t do something about it soon.” Even as he spoke, he took of his coat and began to tear it into strips, make-shift bandages until something better could be found.

On 10/07/2020 at 9:39 AM, The Awakened Salad said:

“I... I don’t know,” the girl replied. She looked down at her own dirty hands. Did she have healing powers? She looked back to Velles, wincing at the blood, at the way his flesh was torn open in violent slashes. Her legs began to shake. Hurt as he was, he could still be a danger.

But she had Emi here. If Velles attacked them, Emi could just teleport them away again... hopefully. She looked down at her white shift. Surely she could stand to lose some of it. She bent down and ripped a piece of fabric off. It was harder than it had looked, and her piece came away jagged and uneven. As she did so, one of the white flowers she’d picked earlier fell out of her pocket. Strangely, it seemed undamaged. The petals remained perfectly smooth, and the stalk was unbent, with that same delicate curvature. She briefly considered offering the flower to Velles, but... how would that help, anyway? He’d most likely become confused.

She took a few small steps towards the man, and offered him her makeshift bandage.

Back in the cave where the battle happened, Enter a username has a moment of lucidity. In that moment, he starts compounding pewter and gold. It’s enough to let him get to his feet, but only barely. He slowly, and painfully, starts following the group.

"Well, he had a fight with a bunch of croven--whatever those are--and then we went Universe-hunting, which led us to a cave where we fought a bunch of batthings and then these people!" He gestures to the holed and Elaine. "But now we're buddies."
