Edwin saw a bit of a commotion over at the food table. Some of the guys were there, along with a blurry version of Ben, apparently calling for help.

"Ben and Shana have been captured by Voidbringers!"

That was a second voice, Mahad, Shana's spren.

The next few seconds were as blurry as the Ben illusion had been. Leona ran towards the door followed by Flid, Cassie tryed to disperse the illusion, probably so it wouldn't attract attention -it turned out Glint was inside-, and Mahad zipped into a wall.

He ran for the door too. There was a van, they followed it. Leona was the closest but a shadow was approaching her. A wall appeared in front of the van seconds before the shadow stabbed Leona.

Flid took care of that and took Leona away but the van was going to escape -apparently the wall wasn't too strong. It smelled, sweet? He couldn't contain a smile, of course she would do that.

He ran with all his might the remaining distance and bent behind the van, putting his hands on the floor and inhaling Stormlight, hoping to manage something in time.

Ok, Ed, you can do this, just this once. Make. It. Work.

The left wheel sank. It was only a couple inches but it should keep them in place for a time. Just then he heard someone getting off the van.

Oh right. he thought. The Voidbringers.

Ok, this just got a little confusing so tell me if I messed something up, I'm just assuming that the cake-wall worked.

Mahad let go of her.

"Tell Rob. She needs him. Please."

He begged, not doing it himself because of Ashlyn, because Shana would be mad at him, if he flew around visible for everybody.

Cup nodded, paling. Oh wow, this was scary. A radiant was captured. She shrunk and trembled further and turned around, lightly tapping Rob’s neck. “Shana’s captured,” she whispered. Rob didn’t respond further than a subtle nod, he didn’t want to talk to his spren in front of Ashlyn.

“I just remembered something,” Rob said, looking at a van, in the distance, looking at some of his friend’s chasing it and a wall of cake appearing to block it. That must have been the van they’d taken Shana in. “I have to do something, but you’re really nice, we should hang out some other time.”

And with that he took off running, inhaling some stormlight on his way, enough to give him a dull glow and to keep up his running pace. He approached the van and stomped, turning the ground below it to liquid. It sunk a little into the ground and he stomped again, solidifying the ground and sticking the van into place. He kept his distance, watching for any Voidbringers to come out.

Cup remained by his neck, trembling as usual, eyes forced shut. This was scary.

The van stopped and Shana felt someone grab her arm, drag her up. The doors opened and she was shoved outside, felt a knife at her throat. Her eyes stayed with Ben, bleeding on the ground and so she stayed quiet. Mahad  wrapped himself around her arm, trembling slightly and she was jerked forward, almost stumbled to the ground.

"Stay back, and free the Van."

The man shouted, pressing the knife against her throat.

"Or your little friends die."

Rob looked at the scene, eyes widening a fraction. But he stood straighter, not showing any emotion. To show emotion was to show weakness, his father had always told him. He stepped forward, and put his arms up, palms facing towards them. He’d never used a surge from range before, he’d always needed touch.

“I’m going to turn the knife to liquid,” he whispered to Cup, and she nodded, floating next to Shana, making sure she was visible only to her.

“This is so scary,” Cup whispered into Shana’s ear, voice high-pitched. “But, Rob says he’s going to melt the knife, so... be ready.”

Rob took another step and breathed in stormlight. “I need some close distance to the van to unmelt it,” he said, and took a deep breath. The knife glinted evilly, pressed against Shana’s throat. It was a simple metal knife, he could do it. Just melt it.

Focus.

But, it was hard, Rob wasn’t touching it, how could he melt it. He’d always heard that the only limits he had were thsoe he placed on himself, but he found that to be untrue. Like now, he couldn’t turn the knife to liquid, he was filled with stormlight, with the urge to do something and yet he couldn’t melt a single blade?

Focus.

He focused on the knife, focused on the space between the blade and his hands. The air, like interlocking parts, connecting his hands and the knife, and if he channeled the surge, channeled it like a beam, passing through the air, into the knife, maybe he could. With one step forward, he thrust out his hands and channeled his stormlight.

And the blade melted.

Shana paled when she heard Cup’s words, stared Rob, silently begged him to stop. Ben. It wasn’t about her, they had Ben. They would kill him, if she did something, if she hurt them. She moved her weight when she saw how Rob concentrated, when she felt the first drop of the knife fall to her shoulder, she threw herself around, ignored the Voidbringer. Her would stand in her back, but Rob and Edwin were there, she had to rely on them, had to trust them to act, to move.

She jumped inside, tackled the one inside away from Ben, ended up awkwardly on the floor, but Ben was safe for the moment.

“Rob! Edwin!”

She screamed and lifted her hands, stared at the three men approaching her. Maybe, maybe she could take them, but not alone, not with Ben barely conscious behind her.

Outside another car stopped, the door opened and Voidbringers spilled on the street. There were many of them, at least eight, one carrying a crystal, glowing a soft violet light.

Storms, there were more.

“You prepared,” Cup whispered in his ear. “Remember? You prepared.”

She was right. Rob reached into his pocket as the Voidbringers began closing in, and he took out a small piece of heavily folded up cloth. He quickly, frantically unfolded it, channeling his surge of tension along its surface, making it hard as a shield and snapping it to its full size. It was a piece of very large bedsheet, but it was very thin, which was why when it was folded it could fit in Rob’s pocket.

However, thickness didn’t matter when the surge of Tension was channeled through it, and suddenly the large cloth expanded into a super large and very lightweight shield. Breathing in deeply Rob linked his stormlight pouch to the shield. As long as he applied stormlight to the shield it would remain strong.

Running with the lightweight shield he moved to Ben and Shana and gave them the shield.

“Keep this for defence,” he said, and hid behind it, using it for cover from the ensuing Void lightning bolts.

I’m not sure if a giant wall of cake would stop a van. The van has stopped, so it has less inertia. But it would at least delay them a few minutes.

On her injury- so long as nobody pulls the knife out, she should be fine in terms of blood loss. The issue will be healing the stab wound. Stormlight would maybe take care of some internal damage.

She needs a hospital or someone with Progession.

Leona woke up inside the house. On the couch.  Wasn’t she - wait. Voidbringers. Oh. And from here she couldn’t do anything about it.

Or could she. All their phones were linked under one AppleID. [email protected] If she pulled up find my iphone, she could see where they were headed. She sat up, wincing as pain shot through her abdomen. But if she’d stayed alive this long, then she should probably live. She slowly retrieved her laptop from the table which was blessedly in arms reach.

She opened her laptop and then clicked on the application. Bam. Only Ben had his phone, but she could see where they were. She fired off a series of texts to the group chat detailing their location.

North or south. Not helpful, but I can't really blame the spren. Cassie watched as Mahad took off, then accepted her uncle's call. Most of the others were going after Ben and Shana; she could stay here and do damage control. Someone needed to. "Okay," she said into her phone, subdued.

James caught the commotion out of the corner of his eye, and saw the two spren flitting towards him and Sawyer.  "Well, it looks as though all Damnation's broken loose." he noted, ever-present wit mixed with genuine concern. Agreed The Nightwatcher sent, Shall we go after them?

"Yeah", James said, "That would be good."

Jamie swerved onto the sidewalk to avoid what appeared to be cake splattered all over the road. Beyond the cake minefield, she could see several vehicles stopped in the road, with people standing around them. As she got closer, she recognized some of the figures. Alright then. Let's do this one more time.

Jamie slammed on the brakes, tossing herself over the handlebars. At the last second, she let go, sailing through the air. She landed with a crouch, mistcoat tassels splayed around her. She slowly stood up, wary of any attackers, but the Voidbringers seemed a bit taken aback by her sudden and dramatic appearence.

"You..." one of them started, "You should have left when you had the chance, mistbound fool!" she charged at Jamie, knives in both hands. Jamie danced away, not attacking. She thrust out her hands the way she'd learned, waiting for the Voidbringer to come at her again. She could hear the beats of her heart. One. Two. Three. Four. More Voidbringers began to circle her, slowly getting closer with each beat. Five. Six. Seven. Eight. Nine. The woman swung both of her knives at Jamie.

Ten.

A Gleaming Shardblade dropped into Jamie's hands just as a knife grazed her cheek. She swung the Blade, and the Voidbringer's eyes burned as she fell to the ground.

Grateful Shana took hold of the shield.

"Ben, he can't walk."

She told Rob breathless, her voice shaking from fear and anxiety.

"We ran out of stormlight, because we - played pranks and hid."

Blushing she positioned herself better, eyed the three in front of them.

"And I didn't bring a weapon."

With a gesture of her fingers she asked Mahad to look around, if someone else was available, if they all had heard the call. Who knew, maybe someone else was attacked as well. She forced herself to take a deep breath, and then continued.

"I have no experience with a shield."

she told Rob quietly.

"But I am more or less useful in hand to hand. I could draw their attention for you to finish them off."

The Voidbringer laughed and lifted his hand, a ball of a strange colour forming around his fingers.

@I think I am here.

===========================

Outside the Voidbringer spread out. the crystal was starting to glow in an eerie violett light. The Voidbringer, a woman, knelt down and placed it on the ground, where it pulsed softly, an aura of sickening violett something forming around it.

Edwin tried to sneak away unsuccesfully. There were too many of them, though most were focused on Rob, Shana and Ben. At least they had a shield, he had his own problems, there were two chasing him. It was a matter of who had more Light, the one who ran out first would lose, and he was willing to bet they had more than a kid who had brought just a bit in case of emergency. He needed a weapon, quickly.

There were some planks on a table in front of one of the houses -the owner probably was going to build a treehouse or something- and on the side there was a hammer. Well, it's better than nothing. I hope they have an extra one.

He took the hammer, spun on one foot and slammed the sharp side on the head of one of them. He fell, most likely still alive but out of it for now. Then there was the other one, They stood in front of the other waiting to see who would make the first move.

Edwin made a gesture with his free hand, pointing subtly towards the man. A second later Twinkle made herself visible right in front of the Voidbringer's eyes, startling him. Edwin took the opportunity and did the same he had done with the first one. "Thanks." he said to her.

He left them there, he didn't want to kill anyone, even if they were Voidbringers. As long as they caused no more trouble for the night.

He returned to where the others were. There were even more now, several vans had parked close. One Voidbringer had put something on the ground, it was glowing.

What in the world is that?

It could be nothing good.

Holy... I have made a terrible, terrible mistake... Or maybe not... Would me and Ax jumping in ruin the flow of the fight too badly? We could always wait, say we arrived late to the prom and didn't know any of what was going on. Then again, I doubt Jace would be much help just yet...

Just jump in. You can still react to the situation in some way. Actually someone with progression would be great!

Ben, Leona and Shana are hurt.

“I’m not in any danger of dying right now. Okay, maybe some. And also I can’t walk. But the others are in danger.” Leona said. She’d taken the knife out, which had caused her to scream a series of curses, and then bandaged it up. The bandages were slowly turning red. Her dress was ruined, but she’d had pictures before hand. Such was the life of an evil slaying high school student.

“I don’t want to stay here and be unhelpful. You may need my soulcasting. If something happens I can jump into the cognitive realm.”

Rob looked back to Shana and quickly shook his head.

“You’re injured,” he said simply. A bolt of red lightning cracked through the air and was blocked by the shield, the cloth taking up more stormlight to endure the blow. Rob took a peek from the side of the shield and quickly hid behind it again as another lightning bolt flashed where his head had been and made a smooth, sinuous cut within the asphalt of the road.

“Can you make the ground frictionless for them?” He asked. Dustbringer. Shana was a dustbringer. That means she had the Abrasion surge, right?

“If you can trip them over I can liquify the ground, stick them there.”
