First, I love this. We have magic in this world, but the non-magical side isn't useless - it still exists and these kids would've grown up with it. At some point, you just gotta call 911.

Also, since you haven't had the police show up yet, might I jump on this idea and make a new character who's a policewoman or something? Could be part of the beginning of the unInvested world discovering us and the two worlds colliding; it's already starting with Ashlyn.

Ashlyn sprints after him, glad to have something to do instead of just watching. She glances back to make sure none of the... enemies had noticed and given chase.

After a heart-pounding sprint through the parking lot, James finally arrived at a car that matched Ashlyn's description. "Well, I'm no track and field athlete." he said to himself, wry smirk touching his face.

Evelyn stood at the bottom of the steps, uncertain of where to go. She didn't see any obvious direction; no explosions, slicked roads, or -- and there it was. A flash of strangely colored lightning exploded out over the rooftops, and Evelyn took off running in that direction.

Shana ran over to Ben and Rob and knelt down next to them. Ben seemed to be alright, Rob was hurt. She ripped of another piece of her dress and offered it to him as an improvised bandange. He had protected her, had infused her cloths, when he had needed the stormlight for himself.

"Thank you."

She whispered, suddenly on the the verge to crying, because he was here, because he cared, because everything was terrible and Ben was still unconcious and she had no idea what to do against these things, not without any stormlight to rip them apart.

"You saved my life."

Almost hastily she continued, tried to change the topic, tried to focus on something else.

"Do you have an idea what we can do about them? Without stormlight, I -"

She shook her head and then just spread her hands in defeat.

"I've never been that afraid before."

Rob took the cloth piece and stuffed it in his pocket. He didn’t tell Shana that his leg still ached despite the stormlight, because compared to everything else it wasn’t that big of a deal. She thanked him for saving her life and Rob could see the reflection of light off of her eyes as they watered slightly, but didn’t dissolve into tears.

She continued and talked something about the Voidbringers before saying she’d never been so afraid before. She seemed on the edge of crying, and Rob looked at her like she was a bomb counting down and he had to defuse it.

Emotions. Rob had no idea how to deal with emotional situations. Storms, he couldn’t even handle his own emotions, he just locked them away, and now there was Shana right there. And he had to say something, right? But it was hard, to understand what to say next, like this was new territory. Ben would’ve known what to do, if he was conscious. He could work that magic lovers worked to comfort each other.

So, he just looked at her, not knowing what to say.

“It’s okay to be afraid,” he said. Was that hypocritical of him to say that? He never gave out his emotions. “You took down two of those enhanced-voidbringers. They should be afraid of you.”

He paused. “I meant that in a good way. And Cup told me you reached the Second Ideal. Which is really good. Now when we spar it can be an equal match.” His face was impassive, but there was a warmth in his voice.

With a smile she climbs out of the car. “Running or driving back?” She asks, still slightly out of breath.

Shana smiled at the warmth in his voice, then turned back to the Voidbringers.

"I'd love to spar with you again."

She replied slightly absently minded, observed their movements. They had turned, had observed her changing position. Of course they had. She'd hoped for some kind of plan, any idea for some strategy, but she wouldn't tell him that. It was too sweet that he'd focused on her fear instead.

Her fingers brushed over Ben's cheek and then she tightened her grip on the knife. Fight for them. She grinned at Rob and started to run, shouted at the Voidbringers:

"I am here! Catch me if you can!"

Not even a heartbeat later a bolt scorched the ground behind her. She was a fast runner, but without stormlight, they were faster. Run. She shouted at herself. Evade, throw something at them. Try to separate them. Lead them away from Ben and Rob.

James returns the smile, and says "Well that depends on whether you want your car to be potentially wrecked by demonic void monsters."

"Good plan" James said, wishing to high heaven that he had clothes other than his tuxedo to fight in. "Shoot the people with glowing red eyes." he added, just so no one else got hurt. He steadied himself, the black sword scabbarded across his back, and began to run.

Shana took off and Rob turned sharply towards she went. Storms, he’d messed it up. He’d said it was okay to be afraid and she’d took it to mean to ignore it. Fear was good. Fear was what kept you from charging into a group of angry Voidbringers’ line of sight.

Rob clenched his teeth (fortunately Ben was to unconscious to see that show of emotion) and wondered where in storms those cops were. They were supposed to be here, to help. Had they thought Rob’s voice was too monotone to be telling the truth? There was nothing Rob could do but look at Shana endangering himself, and he hated that.

“Some girlfriend,” he mumbled, looking to Ben. “I hope I don’t have to be the one telling you if she dies.” If she died... Rob would never forgive himself for that plane-crash of a pep talk. Shana was maybe the closest friend Rob had. Shaking himself out of his thoughts he sighed and looked around, trying to see if there was any way he could help.

“I’m, slight problem.” Ashlyn says, catching up to him, “none of them had glowing red eyes, at least to me.”
