Was that not implied? I thought that’s what non combative was as well.

Good man. Have a one year subscription to the Pineapple of the Month club.

Labeling a character as 'non combative' is people's way of saying 'trust me, I'll keep them out of trouble'. Technically, their character is still able to do stuff like activate traps, step in people's way, or involve themselves in a way that would make people want to fight them, but I interpret the distinction as a social contract/implied promise not to do those things. And if people do, I consider it my responsibility to ask them to reconsider their actions. Moreover, the community has a general sense of what a passive character's involvement should look like, and can inflict in game consequences for people who cross that line, or express their dissatisfaction OOC. Sure, people could use it as a way to avoid consequences for actions any other character would face in similar circumstances, but if someone explicitly says they want to play a non combatant, I trust them to do it fairly. Just like I trust people not to make their characters act over powered.

Even a non-fighter will get caught in a fight one day. And you really have to think about how weak you want your character to be in that regard. I consider all my characters non-fighters but even Damaya knows how to defend herself, at least for a short while. That doesn't mean she'll ever actively choose a fight, it simply gives me the possibility to at least survive an attack.

Just to have this here for the next era:

Laurelai currently has her boon and bane, Forgery, and Feruchemical Zinc.
She's not going to be volunteer for any fights but does defend herself when needed so I wouldn't say entirely non-combative.

That's the best part about having a noncombative channeler. Ciera can open gateways, create shields, and heal others.

@Archer a few questions and a new character.

Can we use Era 3 characters in Era 2?

Also, can you change my character Maq's name to Makc?

Finally, and this is a more general question for anyone, Would I be allowed to Keep Mac as a character if I could guarentee his utter lack of power outside of DA territory, and possibly within DA territory? (This would be no more alleymatics or one power, or much of anything really. He may retain one power.)

Spoiler

Name: Maq

Skills: Hemalurgy, incredibly intelligent.

Investiture: Boon from nightwatcher.

His boon is that he can see spirit webs directly all of the time, and understand spiritwebs. He can tell when people are broken, what spikes they have, and where to spike traits out.

Weakness: His bane made him unable to see in the physical realm/cognitive realm. He can still see souls of people, but that's it. He can gather information of things around him by looking at the spirit webs of objects, but still has to move with a cane. Even when he tries to spike things to grant him sight, it never works. Its possible that by analyzing the spirit webs of a room, he could eventually construct a mental image of it, but that takes hours and leaves him mentally exhausted afterwards.

History: He was Mac's first apprentice. A fellow son of the alleys, who, unlike Mac, wanted to go into hemalurgy. He was heavily invested in the science part of the DA and tried to use more precise hemalurgy, but couldn't. He went to the Nightwatcher to be able to see spirit webs, thinking that it would make things easier, and it did, but he lost his sight as a result.

With his new ability he pioneered surgical hemalurgy, getting precise sDNA sequences, and combining them into other things.

He also developed a fascination with Hemalurgy of objects primarily trying to figure out how to spike things from Aluminum. He hasn't made any progress in non organic things, like stone and metal. But he's *this* close to a breakthrough, or so he tells everyone.

He has spent most of his time in the alleys, but watches the goings of the alleyverse closely. Always looking for something new to spike out.

Personality: Devoted to the DA and extremely driven.

@MacThorstenson, go for it! Maq's an awesomely balanced character, so they can make the transition from E2 to E3 seamlessly, power level wise. Just be sure to make them a younger character, in case the time skip ends up being longer than anticipated.

Done.

Assuming you came up with a reasonable explanation for their loss of power, I have no objections to you keeping a powered-down Mac around. His experience and knowledge would still make him powerful, but they shouldn't make him OP.

I want to see a new guild in a later Era that's just all Mc's. The Mac Gang.

This is the real reason the DA never interferes with anything or has much in the way of PMs. It's just a bunch of Mac's cloning themselves agent Smith style.

Every single member of the DA besides Voidus is just a corrputed copy of Mac.

Thus revealing the real purpose behind the lockdown that has held Voidus captive: Voidus was worried that Mac would take him over too and then rule the entire Alleyverse, so he locked himself within the barrier.

He also need some time alone because he was speaking about himself in the third person.

He's always done that, but he's a bit of a weirdo if you ask Voidus.

Hey archer when do you want the official profiles for my Era 3 characters?

I'm fine if people start submitting them now. Once the Index gets reviewed (I'm estimating by Sunday or Monday it should be edited and updated enough to make it usable) I'll start going through each bio and evaluating it. That way I can be consistent. If the process takes less time than I expect, I'll start sooner. It's a little up in the air at the moment. But any bios that get submitted early are added to the post anyway, so I can find them again. So if you've got some ready, feel free to post them.

Ok. I do have quite a lot of catching up to do, so I'll wait till the Index is ready so the bios kinda make sense*. Thanks Archer!

*Like a skunk, if you will.
