Through the Living Heir he/him Posted February 5 Posted February 5 18 hours ago, Aeoryi said: "I want you to make a device that can make an entire world hide from an Author." Rebus blinked, then laughed - not mocking, merely stunned by the audacity. “That… it depends upon what your goal is. While the world could be brought completely out of the Thread, anything short of that would rely on that Author to - for lack of a better word - allow the device to work.” 18 hours ago, Keke said: he jumped bsck and hit a wall but the kick missed. kyler held his hands up and fell to the ground. He pushed himself up with his hands. Cyrus stood up. "I might be willing to listen. Despite You threatening my soldier and forcing your way into my compound." Rebus stood there, waiting for Kyler to come at him again. He could negotiate with Cyrus, of course, but Evaiya was the one who actually wanted something from the man. 17 hours ago, Kansas Stormcursed said: Dark Cep grinned and leaned forward in the seat he had conjured for himself. - Asharak paused. He could destroy them, but that would simply remove a connection. He refocused the attention of the Mindscape, and began attempting to use its power and his own Narration to corrupt the nanites, infecting them—not to turn them completely to his side, but to be safe from harm from them, and perhaps use them to spy on Rebus's network and maybe even his thoughts. “The deal’s off.” It was Storm, of course. Cricket’s Author, back after all that time only to invalidate all Rebus had waited for. Rebus’s hopes and schemes crumpled. Compassion and mirth were smothered in disappointmen. He smiled, eyes unfocused. It was his deepest facade, cracking as this man ruined the very foundation of Rebus’s world. The duel mattered - but the very foundation of reality, all that stood between TLT and oblivion, every bit of what allowed Rebus to exist? That mattered more. Rebus spoke slowly, rage barely contained. “So this is what you did.” Energy coalesced around him, fury channeled into magic. “You call off our ‘deal’.” Rebus was no longer smiling. His words came faster and harsher, outrage breaking through the fragile placidity. “You simply invalidate everything that has been agreed. Continuity is all that this world exists upon!” Rebus lifted off the ground, magic and rage holding him aloft. - Mindscaping the nanites proved quite effective - their operating systems evidently made them sapient enough for it to take effect. Their memories and fears were completely alien, however - strings of numbers and molecule-level actions, with neither self-preservation nor guilt. 17 hours ago, TwinStorm said: Atreides nodded. "I am seeing to it already." “Good.” Rebus said. Then he disappeared, recognizing that each plot thread he was in made it harder for his Author to answer everything in time. 17 hours ago, edgyswordname said: Not like hero or villain, though. Hero, villain, antihero and anti villain are a different thing from antagonist, third party, protagonist, and bystander (imhop, debatable, and I haven’t published anything) All eight of those could conceivably be Plotblades. My rule of thumb is to check TVTropes - if it has a page with at least a few literary examples, it can almost certainly work. 14 hours ago, NameIess said: The shopkeep sniffed. “What use’ve i for somethin’ fancy like that? I’ll take those bills, bill’ll change em for me down at the billchanger.” Jack was visibly relieved. “The butterfly can run messages, but if there’s someone who can change the money that’s probably better for us both.” 2 minutes ago, Through The Living Glass said: She headed off into the woods. Job grinned, flexing his muscles and leaping forward to grab Bob's hands. "Of course I know how to defeat the wind. The same way you defeat anybody: A suplex." "Ye poer foel." Whispered the High Priest of Current Events "I'd tell ye to pray to yer god fer mercy, but he ain't got no mercy in him. Weep, rejoice, and tremble, fer ye are in yer god's grasp." Even as the High Priest of Current Events finished saying this, a man running in the ceremonial gait of The Exhausted Messenger Bringing Dire News appeared at the bottom of the temple steps. He was a lesser priest of Plot, from the Ghanderflaffle temple by the patterning of his robes. The man ran up the steps, gasping ceremonially for breath, and threw himself to the ground before the High Priest of Plot. "Oh Highest Priest of Plot," He murmured in ceremonial tones with downcast eyes, "I bring to you News Most Dire, from Plot's Temple in the Empire of Ghanderflaffles." The High Priest of Plot turned to the messenger. "News? From the Temple of the Almighty itself? Tell me these tidings, for I fear there is darkness in your words." Edited February 5 by TwinStorm
