Did Draco spike my freaking water bottle again?”, she said to herself. Several small children were almost trampled in the rush to vacate the square. Eden landed on the ground with an oomph, hands scrabbling for the knife she had just dropped. “Yeah, yeah,” she said. “Humans can screech TOO!”, she screamed back, then not finding the knife, she punched it in the face. “The knife, kid!”, she said quickly, the subject in question having scrambled to hide in the alley.

Eden took the opportunity to stand up and yank as hard as she could on a solid patch of flight feathers on the things wing, throwing it off balance and causing more than a little pain.

She couldn’t get backed into a corner playing defense from a disadvantage, but charging into a fight she didn’t need would get her killed. So she stared back, holding its gaze until a soldier snapped off a sling and bashed the creatures rib cage in with lead shot.

Some calm and rational voice in her head processed and responded to the comment. It’s not a flying monkey. Childhood trauma shouldn’t make you prejudiced. She ignored the rational voice in her head. “I am NOT going to calm down. I calm down by playing loud, angry music. Instead, I am stuck on a roof while you and your friends come and stab people. Why would I be calm?” She followed, shakily.
