"The term antagonist has little to do with good or evil." Pree noted. "If it did, then Rebus would not be The Antagonist." He crossed something out on his clipboard. "No belief in objective good and evil, I see? Do you believe in objectively good or bad acts?"

"Sure, why not." She shrugged.

It was not Omen, no. Rebus was using Omen as a landmark, since he can be found easily and the quarry would be around him.

A top hat drifted down from the sky, settling on the ground between them. It sat there for a moment, doing absolutely nothing. Then an arm reached out from the hat and reached in, pulling out its shoulder, then its torso, two legs, the other arm, and finally a grinning head. Reality jolted, the very world rotating around on its axis, only the man from the hat remaining stationary. The hat dropped cleanly onto his head, and Meat the Minstrel played a chord on his bread, fully upside-down. Ketchup began to bleed from his eyes, running up his cheeks and dripping to the ground. This was unequivocally the man Rebus was seeking.

I already love this character

Mischief looked at the bread in wonder. She then decided it was a battle of musical talent and pulled a frog from in her hair. She poked it and it let loose a horrifying shriek. When finished, she promptly ate it. And screamed.

Then looked happily at Meat the Minstrel

On 1/30/2026 at 12:19 AM, DragonHeir said:

"Stone for the water. Paper, drawn for words. The man - xob a ni deppart." Meat pulled his soul out of his body, and dropped it upright on the ground. A piano fell out of the sky, and the keys scuttled around before becoming his suit. "Digging - grilling rocks to crunchy me." Meat bowed, the wind carrying roses to land at his feet.

Mischief started playing 5 notes of a major scale in the right hand and 5 of a chromatic in the left.

2 hours ago, NameIess said:

Omen stared at Meat with eight unblinking eyes. "You speak of Bacon the Bard? What does he have to do with... but of course." Omen spun four of his eyes to Mischief, the others still locked on Meat. "Who sent you to me?"

@ChipsAHoid

Mischief made a small halberd appear in her tiny hands and stared off into the distance, speaking in a monotone

Then it appeared as a crown. Back to a halberd, which she swung around

And then looked back at Omen

Inkwell made a decision. He was a bit over random authors throwing animals at him and teleporting him to have cryptic conversations. If this was a story, his was not about to end here. Alli didn’t seem to notice Rebus. She had frozen completely, but Inkwell decided if he was going to have a character flaw it would be self preservation over selflessness. He had to act quickly, before Rebus could respond. So he took out his notebook, and drew Rebus’  armor. A quick and dirty sketch that immediately stole the soul of the object, drawing it into the notebook, while the real armor transformed into ink, which Inkwell directed with a flick of his thoughts. Hold him. Buy me time. The picture of the armor in the notebook was already fading. Inkwell unsheathed the sword, and cut a rift, leaping through.

Theoretically, as a Narrator, Rebus might be able to follow Inkwell anywhere he went. Maybe he had been a bit jumpy, but there wasn’t much he could do about that now. As he landed on the back of a giant metal octopus corpse fallen across a mountain, he cut another rift, falling straight through into a royal palace in a world that immediately lacked any shade of yellow or blue. He continued hacking through the membrane of reality, the air behind him sizzling, until he was forced to stop and catch his breath. He had landed on a massive stone plateau, riddled with puddles and little buds sprouting vines as far as the horizon.

Regulus's eyes widened in shock. A real dragon! He thought. A real dragon, and I have to fight it! He was frozen for a moment, but fortunately, the advice of his father came to mind.

"Son. When you are face to face with a fiery death, don't just sit around."

Regulus blinked, drawing his sword. He ran towards the dragon, hoping to get too close for it to use its fiery breath on him. Although this dragon didn't look to have particularly fiery breath. Thinking back to his dragon-fighting lessons, Regulus cried out a challenge. "Fierce dragon! I, Regulus am here to rescue the prince-er, the damsel you have captured!" Yes, get it talking. Can't breath fire while talking. He screamed a battle cry that came out sounding a little more like just a scream than he would've liked, and swung his sword for one of the dragon's legs.

Having finished said long process of standing up, and now that at least an inch of dust had collected on the old reptile's drooping hide, the dragon turned its head in Regulus' direction as the young man screamed his battle cry. Not yet hard of hearing, the dragon seemed to start at the unexpected high pitched noise. It stumbled back from Regulus' attack, the full force of it not connecting, but still cutting a gash as the dragon let loose a pained roar, and turned its head toward Regulus to belch flames at him. All that came forth was smoke.

Rebus has killed one of the ancient heroes, or rather, Rebus spilled the blood of one of the ancient heroes before you existed, and his author has granted him death only now, 9/10mmHB#2 told him.

“You’re telling me you spent all this time harassing me because I was stalling plot threads, when one of the plot threads I was stalling kept someone alive?”

  Hide contents

He was in pain! Better to let him reach Elysium than to be responsible for his suffering!

Inkwell gritted his teeth. The guilt threatened to overwhelm him. “That’s. Not. Our. Job. They have authors for a reason.”

  Hide contents

Authors are just as bad as narrators.

“You know, you act like you’re some expert on TLT, but really you appeared here no sooner than I did. Just because you can hear the gods doesn’t make you one of them.”
Inkwell, will all his might, sends a silent message to the other authors, praying his author will hide
this from 9/10mmHB#2, the heartless creature Inkwell is stuck with. And for a moment, Inkwell’s prayer is granted, and his author takes away 9/10mmHB#2’s ability to see the Thread.

Inkwell pleads to all the authors to separate him from 9/10, at any cost.

Rebus nodded. “That’s how it would work. Almost.”

-

“I could kill you,” Rebus noted, “though since you seem to be a person I might feel bad about it.”
-

“I am rather good a psychology - better than my Author, somehow.”

“I suspect I will.” Rebus said. He closed his eyes, hovering into the air with his arms outstretched. Across the planet, volcanoes sank into the earth. The sky brightened, ash shifting into clouds. Grass, forests, buildings, and oceans closed over the wasteland.
Rebus stopped floating, Sequence’s World now much the same as it had been before - with him as its ruler.

“I think both of us would prefer I stay far away from Rirrom. Afterwards, you could bring the body to me, or I could arrive to take the core.”

That is mostly what Rebus does, though he’s closer to the Lost Pages than one might think. Hey look - vague threats.

At any cost… There was a thunderclap, and a grinning man in black and white armor appeared. “Hello, Inkwell. I take it you have heard of me?”

Rebus saluted back. He was smiling - he had won, and this was the kind of ending Cricket deserved - but there were tears in his eyes. He stood there - Bat’s talisman in one hand, the sword in the other - and the lightning hit, the flash blinding.
Cricket was gone. The sword - still covered in his blood - began to glow, shining with color as crystals ran down its length. A Narrationblade. Rebus almost laughed - of course this of all things had been his quest. The sword dropped from his finger, dissipating into wisps of shimmering color. A flower took its place, and Rebus carefully laid it before Cricket’s body. One teardrop fell, rolling off the glowing orange petal and joining with the rain. “Goodbye, Cricket. You were a good friend, a good enemy, and above all a good person. May you rest in peace.”
Then Rebus stood, pushing aside the sorrow to address the Thread as a whole. “Cricket is dead. Truly dead, beyond even the power of Narration to restore. The terms of the duel cannot be fulfilled - on these grounds, I claim his Plotblades.” Rebus walked to Redemption, the Blade still glowing with incredible brightness. He lifted Antagonist from where it hung on the hilt, placing it upon his head once more. The crown hummed, and Rebus smiled as he pulled Redemption from the pillar.
It burned.

your thinking as a TLTer should lol

its motives were set in stone by TwinStorm when he designed the Plotblade specifically for Cricket, so the sword will follow his sense of morals and judge people at first as Cricket would, instinctively hating Rebus, liking Tam or Bat etc

the sword does not distinguish between Author's characters tho, so any of Glass's characters it will trust at first, and any of Heir's characters it will dislike on first sight

ye this is so random and so nerdy lol
