"Very well." Asharak pauses. "He is...frozen. Held up. Author delays have stalled his path, though it should continue soon. I hope it does for our sakes. We will need what is to come..." He trails off. "Essentially, he's stuck in a Mindscape not his own."

Sanguine does not think. He does not feel. He kills. But this time, as he raises a blade for a killing blow, a force presses down on him. Resisting leaves him in a state of helpless agony, a sensation completely foreign to him.
You should never have put yourself into the power of an Author, Sanguine, an ethereal voice whispers from the heavens, despite the fact they are in a cave. If you will not feel, he will feel for you, and if you will not show mercy, he will show mercy for you. He will not allow you to destroy this creation, not on his conscience.
The force relented. Sanguine stumbled forwards. Staring. Then, without a word, he sampled the pool of blood on the floor. Narrator’s blood. He incorporated it into his form, then with a dismissive snort, he vanished, passing through a rift to somewhere else.
——

in that case…

Iromem stumbles forward. Survivors. Of… what? The destruction was too terrible, the screams of the still living mingling with the horrible cries of withergeists in the distance, and the crackling of black fires in the ruins of what seemed to have been a temple. He had to speak to them. They had to know.

Kion, who happened to be there, jumped. "Renders!" he cursed, "a Render!"

A man lay on the ground, seemingly unconscious. Two other people stood next to him, talking urgently - one of them wore a suit and top hat, and seemed to be made from metal. @NameIess @TwinStorm

Rebus nodded. "I shall do what I can." Then he split in two, assembling a new copy of him from transient dream matter. The real him went back the way the had come, and returned to reality.

He immediately - well, almost immediately - tried to teleport himself to Subversion.

The teleportation was successful. Subversion stood amidst a suitably misty landscape, wearing a plain grey dress.

"You're here about the converter, I assume?"

Jack rushed to him, trying to catch the man before he fell - though admittedly, Jack wasn't much softer than the ground was.

Lyric had a rather large bump on his head, but his breathing was steady. In the way of fiction, the concussion that caused his unconsciousness did not prevent him from dreaming.

His father standing on a hill at night, watching shadows cast by pure crystal's light, humming a tune of resonance. Lyric, sitting beside him, a question on his lips.

"Why must we guard these hills?"

His father's music halting, an answer soon in coming.

"We guard these hills, as our ancestors before us, to protect the crystals. In lands far off, cities rise and people gather. The Void sees these of life, and hates them. Where the Luxsprites rule, there is safety. But they do not rule everywhere. Where they cannot be they send these crystals, to guard the cities from the void, to keep them safe from terrors in the night."

His father's eyes hardening, a hand laid upon crystal behind him. A command, abrupt and sharp.

"Go fetch your mother and uncles. They come from east, I think. The way to camp should be clear."

Running through the night, fear twisting in his heart.

His father's voice behind him, singing the Thread's song.

Lyric's eyes snapped open. His head pounded with a fierce headache, and his vision spun. Still, he saw the newcome priest, and old man before them.

"Friend Jack?" He murmured softly. "What happened?"

"Then let the deal be made. Symbol, safely removed to Onyx's protection, in exchange for a task of my choosing,  which shall not demand your life or hers. Have we an agreement?" The wind seemed eager that its insidious plotting had come to fruition, but perhaps Rebus was projecting.
He took a shaky breath. Symbol's torment had passed, but it could return. "She is safe, for now, but I said I would do this. I agree." Rebus gently held Symbol's hand, tears in his eyes - though they could be from the cold wind. "Rest. It's alright - Fate will get you to safety."

-

"Good. Would you like to be around for when I do test the converter? It could potentially produce Mordite for the Witherlord to kill us with, or an explosion similar to the one that let Malevolence claim the Lost Pages - so I am going to do it far from anything else."

Shadow Magenta sounds sick

I don't know what to do with the Guardians of the Plot. Who should I harass next? Who has a Shardblade?

Oh, and once I think of a new character, I'm giving them Dramatic Irony.

Subversion and Rebus stood on a hill overlooking the edge of Onyx's realm. That edge was near a mile distant, as Subversion was taking no chance with losing her Narration.

"Travel through there until you find a place full of sand. Then go to sleep. Don't use Narration, and watch out for the destroyer. He wields a piece of Unity last I checked, and may attempt to incorporate you into his hivemind."

Subversion gave Onyx's realm a long look full of reminiscence.

Humming a tune of clarity, he sat up slowly, head pounding all the harder. Mostly, he wanted to run away and hide. But the man looked desperate...

And that other one, the priest. Might he hold some secret wisdom for Jack to know?

Lyric remembered hazily what the man had asked.

"Not her, and not me. Anything else, I will do it." With those words, Rebus saved his closest friend and doomed the world.

"That is what I intend to learn." Rebus said. "It took one of the last significant pieces of Luxite to craft, as well as Prismite, Mordite, and Nullite - they're bonded together, but I think each point is affiliated with one."

Or at least tries to. As Sanguine attempts to cut a rift, he finds that he can sense nowhere else outside the cave, as if the cave is indeed the only thing that exists.

Night laughs softly, finding herself invigorated at Sanguine’s form running in circles, clearly enraged while Egis’ illusion keeps him occupied. The mind, it seems, is a better prison than a black hole. Her starhawk is bringing Inkwell to keep an eye on the situation, as he seems quite bored.
——

Sanguine can’t stand it. He can’t so much as look at Egis without the Author stepping in, he can’t seem to leave this place, and he can’t even break through Egis’ Narration, exhausted as he is. He lashes out indiscriminately, cutting rift after rift that leads nowhere, incapable of leaving this *screeching* cave- what was that?

——

Inkwell has found himself in the midst of a massive empty city. It is pale grey and featureless wherever he looks, except the tips of some buildings which sparkle silver in the sunlight, and the reflections of the sun off of shimmering glass skyscrapers. The starhawk in his shoulder screeches over the being’s curse and disappears in a shower of stardust. Before him, some gibbering entity appearing to be formed entirely of blood runs in circles, clutching its head with one hand and clawing familiar looking rifts that lead straight back to themselves with the other, tendrils appearing on his skin and lashing out at the air before being absorbed back into his body in his maddened fury. Egis leans against a nondescript building nearby, amused. “Mmm… this is the friend 9/10 was talking about?” Inkwell asks her.

The burning he felt is gone almost immediately. As he pushes outwards, he feels a resistance impeding him, before it finally bursts with a popping noise and the room disappears. The area clarifies not into Heaven, but a cave of about the same size as the room he was just in, brightly lit by braziers hanging on the walls. He can see a flash of concern cross the face of Egis's image. She lunges forward, thrusting a crystalline dagger into Sanguine's face.
