+eveorjoy she/her Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 It is still several days before the release of Words of Radiance. A person comes to your door and shows you a copy of the book. They will allow you to look through it for only three hours. You might be a speed reader, but you can't read 1088 pages in three hours. Would you accept the three hour preview?
TheShogun he/him Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 You'd get through all of the beginning stuff that we're wondering about from TWoK, but not so far in that you'd instantly need to know how it ends etc. So yeah. I would.
Aminar Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 Yes, yes I would. And then I would photograph every page. And then I would epically troll the forums by making all sorts of just a hair off the money predictions.(Actually I would probably not... But I would smugly read all the wrong guesses and laugh to myself.) 4
Duskshard he/him Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 (edited) Yes, I would. Then I'd covertly switch the dust jacket with another book of similar size, like the oxford dictionary, then reluctantly give him that back at the 3 hour mark. Then as he was walking away down the garden path I'd start laughing maniacally. Edited February 21, 2014 by Duskshard 5
Cortez he/him Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 Yes. I could probably read the entire thing in three hours. (I'm not kidding by the way. I'll probably have read the book twice by the end of the first day.)
Binnut he/him Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 No, that would be to much torment if its not the same day as release... But Yes, i would not be able to resist.
WitSpren he/him Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 Also, once I had it - I would RUN FAR AND FAST so I would not have to take it back until I was done!!
ADIMORTIS he/him Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 the first thing I would do would be to read the Talenelat Interlude...
Argent he/him Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 I'd probably look at the art, the endpages, the Ars Arcanum, and things like that...
AerionBFII he/him Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 Id like to say no and read the whole thing when i have time but me and willpower have never gotten along.
Elbereth she/her Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 Yes. I could probably read the entire thing in three hours. (I'm not kidding by the way. I'll probably have read the book twice by the end of the first day.) Me too! Especially with the amount of chapters already released. I can just read Chapter 7, then continue from Chapter 14.
Shardlet he/him Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 I'd probably look at the art, the endpages, the Ars Arcanum, and things like that... Careful, Peter said that some of the later art has spoilers for the earlier parts of the book. So, if you don't want to be spoiled don't peruse all the art first.
DragonReborn he/him Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 Yes. It would be the best three hours in February 2
Cromptj he/him Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 I reckon I could read to at least halfway, after skipping past the preview chapters. If I could read the first three parts, I could treat the rest of the book when it comes out like a really full on sequel.
Argent he/him Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 Careful, Peter said that some of the later art has spoilers for the earlier parts of the book. So, if you don't want to be spoiled don't peruse all the art first. I am not really that concerned with spoilers. If I only had three hours, I'd be able to get through only a fraction of the book, maybe a couple of hundred pages (not-a-fun fact: being fluent in English does not mean you get to read as fast as native speakers). So I'd just torture myself. No, the "artsy" parts of the book are much more likely to be independent and self-contained, so I'd rather stick with those.
Who Sharded? Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 Careful, Peter said that some of the later art has spoilers for the earlier parts of the book. So, if you don't want to be spoiled don't peruse all the art first. I'm glad I saw this post! I typically look at all the art early on (the last Harry Potter book was the only one where I resisted). I'll try to resist for WoR.
Morsk he/him Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 I just want to read Chapter 7, and the quotes above Chapters 8 and 9 that were left out of previews. I'd probably read those parts twice, and stop there. If I still had plenty of time, I'd read the first set of Interludes. I wouldn't want to get near the 3 hour limit though, because then I'd just feel rushed. 1
Robot Aztec Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 I wloudlsell on EBAY and then when he come back I say ''sorry it is in mainl'' and watch him chase DHL guy :) :)
The Rooster he/him Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 NO! I'd die when it gets taken away.
Chrono she/her Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 Yes. This will give me ample time to scan and send all the pages to my email. Artemis Fowl style. Except my idea got ninja'd by Aminar. Dang it. So, instead, I'd enjoy a leisurely read. Skip to the good stuff, and just have a good time. Speed reading is no fun for a book of this size. 1
Grayv he/him Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 I would copy down the new ars arcanum and see what is new by comparing it with TWoK.
shinintendo Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 I would receive it than run away so they will never find me till I finish the book, than it won't really matter If I really had to give it back, as posted before me, I would've scanned the pages and give them their copy back. get inside my room. lock the door and dig right in.
laeelin Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 Time to snap a LOT of photos on my cell phone. (I don't have a scanner)
