Steeldancer he/him Posted September 26, 2017 Posted September 26, 2017 A new character. One we've never seen before. And now she's mentioned all the flipping time? Something is going on. It's freaking me out. 4
Ciridae Posted September 26, 2017 Posted September 26, 2017 I'm calling secret society tie in. Maybe later Radiant. But it seems clear that she's being set up for an important role later in the book, or in the series as a whole. 1

MrWyndle_ThatsHisName Posted September 26, 2017 Posted September 26, 2017 Who? May Aladar? Oh you mean daughter of Highprince Aladar. I think her name is May? May Aladar. 1

Crucible of Shards he/him Posted September 26, 2017 Posted September 26, 2017 Guys, you're all missing the connection. All these 9's mean one thing: the Unmade. She's obviously a spy of Odium. 4

Hischier Posted September 26, 2017 Posted September 26, 2017 My guess? Proto-radiant. Her name is referenced enough that Brandon clearly wants the reader to remember it. She could be a member of a secret organization, or something else, but I like the radiant theory better. Alternatively, and I just thought of this as I was typing, she ends up being the next murder victim. 1
redbishop Posted September 26, 2017 Posted September 26, 2017 I second Proto-Radiant, and further suggest she will be the first Alethi of an order we haven't seen much of, who will be challenged for leadership by a non-Alethi KR. We already have racism and classism, why not add in jingoism? 10 books is plenty of space!
+ElephantEarwax he/him Posted September 27, 2017 Posted September 27, 2017 I already said this elsewhere, but she may be there to attract attention, then be killed by the copycat. That's what I think. 1

Frostlander Posted September 27, 2017 Posted September 27, 2017 I'm not sure what her role is, though being a "red shirt," love interest, future Radiant, secret society member or a combination of these somehow seem equally likely. Right now, she actually makes sense if we're introducing Aladar as a bigger character. Because Lighteyes work as husband-wife pairs, if Aladar is a widower, it might make sense for him to have a trusted female relative among the Spanreed Club. He's not mentioned as having a wife, so add in a daughter. Of course, Brandon could have given Aladar a wife. So May will be important, but her activities probably make sense in Alethi society and make Aladar more well rounded. 1

This makes sense, but she has been mentioned a whole lot without her father, so it feels like we are building up for something. That said, it may be that May is just Aladar worldbuilding. The murder victim is an interesting idea. If Brandon wants to keep on having Mr. Copycat around, he will eventually kill someone who we know about. I doubt it will be a major character, probably not even a semi-major one. But if it is someone whose name most people actually know, there will at least be some element of surprise into it. Also, the Alethi might have stronger reactions to a young woman being murdered than they had to the murder of middle-aged men.

So obviously she's going to be the Princess he impresses by Glowing and Flying. 3
Guest Posted September 28, 2017 Posted September 28, 2017 I am now thinking May Aladar will be the one to find the clues incriminating Adolin into Sadeas's murder. Her findings may cause Aladar to rethink his alliance to Dalinar if Dalinar fails to react appropriately.

king of nowhere Posted September 28, 2017 Posted September 28, 2017 (edited) or maybe she's just a red herring. Jace21 he/him Posted September 29, 2017 Posted September 29, 2017 (edited) Would May have the physical strength to have comitted the murderer? We know the method was a dagger through the eye, the kill of a trained warrior. Her knowing that was the methodwouldnt necessarily make her capable of doing it herself, particularly against someone who is most likely stronger than she is and who seemed to have gone through an extended fight. I like the twist but cant see how she could have been. Edited September 29, 2017 by Jace21

I like the twist but cant see how she could have been. Well, I bet Vivenna would be able to engage and extended fight with a trained soldier with help from awakened clothes. So there we go: May Aladar is BOTH Vivenna and the copycat murder. There can be no other rational explanation 1
