I've been thinking about changing my name to Steeldancer for a while now... But first I need to finish drawing out the symbol, which is a merger of the edgedancer symbol and the steel symbol.

I'm very curious about the effects of your work :)

My mom accidentally put two teaspoons of chilli powder instead of paprika into the butter chicken. It turned into a very nice hot sauce.

Stylize it as the Flash symbol. Scadrian symbols fit well for that.

@TheOrlionThatComesBefore I have no idea why, but all I can think of with your new name is an Outsider from the Dresden series, like "He Who Walks Behind."

You're a scary thing.

I am going for something more sinister in my current form!

It's a reference to the first book in R Scott Bakker's Second Apocalypse series that I'm reading right now. Once I am done with the books released so far, I'll change to something else!

This was EXACTLY my reaction too!

Goodness gracious. Watching A.I.: Artificial Intelligence right before this does not help the well-being of my soul.

I'm going to be in a drama production of Narnia, and one of the things we're doing is having two people play the lion (one for the butt and one for the head)

So anyway, my friend and I have been referring to the two roles as Aslan and Asslan.

I'm finally getting to play my own Zelda game, which means I own it, I don't have to go to a friend's house.

It's not the first one I've played, but it's super fun.

Twilight Princess is worth it, everyone.

Just found out the Catholic church has a knighthood that they can bestow upon people called The Order of the Golden Spur. Evidently it is such a high honor that there is only one person currently that has it, which is the Grand Duke of Luxembourg (although there is nothing preventing many people holding it at the same time).

That's pretty interesting. I wish titles got used more often. Like every nation should have a First Sword or a Destriant.

It's been a while since I've done a post of nature photos. I have a bit of a backlog... XD

BYU has a nice little duck pond on the edge of campus, so here are lots of duck photos!

Juvenile Wood Ducks (4 photos):

Spoiler

This one looked like he/she wanted to nap, but was too nervous to sleep with me standing nearby with my camera.

IMG_2664_Wood_Duck_Crop.thumb.jpg.2a6a429583a239f24023e51ff40b4e4e.jpg

This next picture is the best photo I've ever gotten of a Wood Duck. (It's also my profile pic right now!) They're much shier than Mallards, usually, and stay too far away for the amount of zoom my camera has.

Mallard ducklings (3 photos):

Spoiler

These ducklings were sort of "teenagers"--not newly hatched, and getting close to matching the adult Mallards in terms of size, but still fluffy and cute and unable to fly.

Normally, taking pictures with the sun coming from behind your subject is really annoying, but I'm very pleased with how it made this duckling sort of glow around the edges.

Adult Mallards (5 photos):

Napping peacefully:

Portrait of a sleepy Mallard:

I got a laugh out of these two striking near-identical poses:

Time for some Fun Duck Facts!

  • Unlike most birds, ducks have their breeding season before the weather gets warm.
  • This means they are at their most colorful when there may still be snow and ice outside.
  • During breeding season, male Mallards have iridescent, emerald-green heads.
  • Towards the end of the summer, ducks go through a molt where they grow a strong new set of feathers in preparation for the long flights required during migration.
  • During this molt, male Mallards lose their green heads and look very similar to females.
  • Male and female Mallards can still be told apart from each other by the color of their bills: Males' are dull, plain yellow, while females' are orange with a black "saddle" marking.

Soooo, the Mallards above are all males, and the one immediately below is a female.

One more Fun Fact: Mallards are also commonly kept as farm animals and have been selectively bred for generations to produce some unusual color variations. That's where birds like the one below come from. It's still a Mallard, just a domesticated variety.
