Note to self: if you don't want to be spending money, don't walk into a bookshop that is well stocked on Sanderson.

I bought Calamity, and just about restrained myself from buying Mitosis (which I have on kindle) or Legiom:skin deep which I have on audio.

Neither compare to actual paper. :(

On the bright side, I now have w copy of Calamity :D

Downside: less savings.

My friend was at the bookstore today; I told her to pick up a copy of Calamity for me and I'll pay her back. I'm hoping she did, eep.

Yeah, I've been through the savings vs. Sanderson debate. I've settled a deal with myself in the end - I buy Cosmere books, I borrow non-Cosmere books from the library until I get a stable job (as opposed to casual jobs that I do now and again right now).

Went into my local B&N to pick up Calamity, then I saw that Alcatraz had been reprinted and I never got to read those. A 20 dollar trip quickly turned into a 60 dollar trip. Sigh...yay I have more Sanderson to read though. :)

Well, then, there we go.  :D

OK, fellow nerds!  I am about to show you something you never thought you'd see:  Princess Leia in the Enterprise captain's chair!

She really is overdue for a good grooming.  Her coat's looking a bit scraggly.

Archer, Kirk, Picard, Leia.

I don't have a job yet, so all this is basically my parent's money. Which I'm perfectly fine spending.

Hey, if any of you guys in the US can direct me to some decent local urban legends, I'd be much obliged. Here's the ones I already know about:

  • Black-Eyed Kids
  • Dark Mirror
  • Sasquatch/Bigfoot
  • Jersey Devil
  • Everything on this list
  • The theater ghost of Mt. Spokane High School
  • Tommyknockers

And I think I've read up on more, but if there are others, let me know.

The only Urban Legend around here that I know of is not creepy at all.

Supposedly these really annoying insects we have around here (they're called love bugs) are mosquitos that were genetically modified to incorporate some ladybug genes by a lab at FIT (Florida Institute of Technology).

I'm going to go with better in every way.  But I love my dog.

(She turns 14 in a little less than a month.  I remember when she was a tiny puppy I could fit into my hands.)

So, I just worked out today for the first time in about a year.

I've edged up to 180 lbs, and that's just...too much.  It's time to start getting serious about getting into shape, and that means exercising and starting to watch what I eat.  So I've created an account on MyFitnessPal to track my calorie intake and fitness regimen.

My main goal is to get back down to where I was when I got married 5 years ago, which was 155.  If I can edge down to 145, all the better, but since I plan on putting on muscle as well as burning off fat, 145 might be a bit too skinny.  I dunno.  We'll see.

I really wish Rowling had gone into more detail about what witches and wizards did for entertainment, because so far, my list is looking a lot like the one for fun things to do in Tucson:

  • Read the Daily Prophet, Britain's wizarding "news" paper
  • Throw budget reports at Ministry workers
  • Go into the Chamber of Secrets and see how long you can last
  • Stare at a wall
  • ?????
  • Read Lockhart's books
  • Nothing
  • Eat dirt
  • Still nothing
  • Taxes

.....talk to portraits.

Do they have novels?

Musiic

Um.

Trying to come up with some novels that might exist in-universe. It's harder for a fantasy fan, I think, because anything I'd want to read would be fantasy, but since they're literally magical, coming up with flights of fancy is a bit more difficult.

Ron had a comic book called The Adventures of Martin Miggs: The Mad Muggle.

Like Lucius and Narcissa would allow that under their roof.

Depends on how ludicrously racist it gets. The Weasleys are great and all, but they're not wholesale immune to the prejudices of the wizarding world at large. Even Arthur looks at Muggles with the same condescending fascination you and I might give an ant farm.

True, but if Martin is the main character, he's probably going to be portrayed in a semi-positive (or at least, not outright negative) light. He might be made out to be a dimwit by a condescending author, but the same author might give him some positive traits—he might be brave, or hard-working, or loyal to his friends, or a lover of animals, or what have you.

Edit: Though on second thought, it might make sense for them to buy a few issues as a sort of "Look how much we've chaaaannnnnnged!" thing.

Romance could still work, horror stories about Giants or dementors or something. Magic carpet smuggler stories, cop stories probably....
