Jondesu he/him Posted August 8, 2017 Posted August 8, 2017 I just got a call from my manager. I have been on medical leave for over a year and a half now, and apparently my company is cited that it is ultimatum time. If I can’t return within a week I think, I no longer have a job. I don’t think I’m ready to return, but I’m debating whether it’s worth possibly having a nervous break down to try.
Calderis he/him Posted August 8, 2017 Posted August 8, 2017 @Jondesu I'm sorry. It wasn't anywhere near as long term, but I had a 6 month medical leave around 7 years ago. If you aren't able to return, do you have any options like long term disability? I hope this works out for you

I hope this works out for you I’ve been denied short and long term disability, but we’re appealing that. No clue if it’ll work out though.

I just resigned. That means I can apply to be rehired at some point, instead of burning the bridge behind me. I won’t get to collect unemployment, but I’m uncertain I would have really gotten anything anyways.
Claincy he/him Posted August 9, 2017 Posted August 9, 2017 (edited) Places that have hurt/do hurt today/last night: Head (of course), neck, left arm & hand, right shoulder & wrist & hand, right ankle, chest. Normally different parts of me take turns hurting :/ (Well, except the head of course, but the rest usually take turns.) Hums to peace. Edited August 9, 2017 by Claincy
Draginon he/him Posted August 9, 2017 Posted August 9, 2017 Not sure whether to put this here or on pet peeves. The people at my work cause so much chaos and double work. I'm trying to get the beginning of year inventory done and the higher ups are just causing chaos that they somehow think is helping! They want the teachers to get a couple of their TE's instead of having them do the free online version so I'm having to waste time going to the campuses to make tickets for them to sign instead of getting my job done so they can, oh I don't know, be ready for the freaking start of school!!! Then they order some new stuff and instead of sending it to us to get it inventoried and barcoded they send it straight to the campuses so I'm having to waste more time going there to do that, especially since in order to properly inventory these things I have to constantly be packing up a printer to print out the barcodes for the items. They also order a whole new, very unnecessary, reading curriculum that's almost 300 boxes with lots of little books that all needs to be inventoried BEFORE school starts. I've barely made a dent in that stuff! I can't even finish the the beginning of year inventory let alone getting this constant back and forth finished. Worse they won't get anyone to help me, it's just me and my mom so that shows how small our department is, and we have 4 campuses to do. As for the double work, you have no idea how many times I've had to relabel laptops because some 'genius' wants them renamed to say something different. I've also had to redo tickets because my mom doesn't give me the correct info, like she'll skip an item or she'll call it the wrong name, or she'll lose the ticket making me have to return everything and redo the whole ticket over! She even forces me to redo tickets if the teachers name is 'misspelled'. What difference does it make if McCluskey is spelled Mccluskey, which I have to be creative in the system since that would be using the same name twice and it doesn't do the same name twice for ticket names. Heck most of my double work is caused by my mom but she thinks it's caused by me or the 'geniuses' at admin.
Seonid he/him Posted August 10, 2017 Posted August 10, 2017 Just got a random eviction notice. Well, not quite an eviction notice. But a notice that we are required to vacate before the end of the month. Because our apartment complex got sold to a new owner who wants to make renovations, and then rent out the apartments for double the price or something. We're 3 months into our year-long lease - we thought we'd have until the end of it before they kicked us out. But apparently not. They're offering to let the affected folks move into other vacant units in the complex, but I don't think there's enough for everyone, and I sure as heck don't want to deal with the same thing again in a few months when they decide to renovate the building we move to. Add to that the fact that I still don't have a job. It wasn't a good day today...
Calderis he/him Posted August 10, 2017 Posted August 10, 2017 @Seonid have you looked into the tenant laws where you live? That doesn't sound legal. Buying a property in most areas (as far as I'm aware) means they bought your lease. They should still be subject to the terms of your lease.
Mestiv he/him Posted August 10, 2017 Posted August 10, 2017 @Seonid Like Calderis said, I'd definitely seek some legal advice from a professional. That doesn't sound OK at all. If there's something fishy about it, you and other tenants can go to court together (and when you work together you can probably hire a better lawyer).
Silverblade5 he/him Posted August 11, 2017 Posted August 11, 2017 Scheduling only 3 people for a restaurant won't cause any problems. Nope, none at all. Since I decided to take extra hours, it thankfully become 4, and barely worked out.
Sunbird she/her Posted August 11, 2017 Posted August 11, 2017 @Silverblade5 Ouch. Understaffing is not cool. Sadly it seems that LOTS of different businesses are making a habit of it.

I looked over my lease agreement, and there's actually a clause in there that says that in the event of a change in ownership, they can give me 30 days notice to vacate. Unfortunately. But we're looking for new apartments now, and we've found a number of them that might work. If there's one good thing that happened as a result of this, it's that I'm suddenly a lot more willing to take a lower-quality job than I was. Which is only good in the sense of: now I'll have a job instead of not. Sure seems like a waste of 2 4-year degrees to just go work on a factory assembly line, but it's much better than nothing at all.

Darkness Ascendant he/him Posted August 12, 2017 Posted August 12, 2017 @Pestis the Spider @Claincy @overlordjebus @StrikerEZ I definitely know I'm late on this but. I have horrible motivation problems myself, I'm not motivated to do anything, I don't distract myself, I don't do anything, I just sit and do...nothing. Just sit there listening to the noises of average day in our household , I can't motivate myself to do things that I love, not even do something like eat. It's just Everyone has food that they love, like, need to eat. And sometimes. The food just tastes like...sludge, bland tasteless sludge. And you keep doing the things you need to do, you keep doing the things that you love to do. But its not the same. You just...you don't get any enjoyment, or satisfaction, or well. Anything. It's just bland and tasteless. And then it gets to the point....where like me Where you don't eat, sleep, read, write, well Do anything. Because really...what's the point. You don't really derive anything from it, other than the ability to eat more sludge.
Calderis he/him Posted August 12, 2017 Posted August 12, 2017 @Darkness Ascendant yeah... This is the stuff that people who say "I'm so depressed" when they're sad about something don't get. Depression is far more than "feeling sad." it's the slow removal of enjoyment from anything. A slide into apathy, and lethargy, and complete lack of meaning. Sorry you have to deal with it.

XD It's alright *yawns, I try not to let it get in the way, but yeah its hard and extremely annoying, because I actually want to get stuff done lmao
Draginon he/him Posted August 14, 2017 Posted August 14, 2017 Quick question: What kind of jerk goes around eating other people's food???!!! I had a couple of these premade smuckers pb&j sandwiches and someone ate one. Who does that anyway???

And the thing is, when it comes to band and music, I really, really do want to do it. But the pressure to be good, to play as well as I possibly can (which isn't just something others pressure me with, but something I pressure myself with), makes it hard. Even when I performed my solo a couple months ago, I felt it wasn't good, there were several things I could've done better, if only I'd practiced more. That aspect of it is probably just the musical artist/perfectionist in me speaking out. I know what my goals are right now. I want to be either a band director or an author. Two very different things, and it'd be really hard to be both. But I'd love to be either, but I'd be sad not to be the other one. My biggest problem is how others see me, and I hate not living up to the expectations. I'm definitely getting better at it, it's still just a problem though. I'm late to the party on this, but... In addition to the standard "smart kid coasts and coasts and then runs into a brick wall because none of the past teachers bothered to actually challenge you and teach you actual good study habits," I also have the inattentive form of ADD. For ADD brains, there are only two times: now and not-now. And it's very, very easy to keep pushing everything into not-now. My advice: do you have a phone? Program alarms! Set an alarm at a specific time each day for practicing. When the alarm goes off, it's time to practice for X number of minutes. Then you can go and do something else. Next alarm goes off: homework time! It seems dumb and simplistic, but it's a way to trick your brain into changing "not-now" into NOW. 1 hour ago, Draginon said: What made this worse is how there was maybe a couple other items in the fridge so no one was really using it which makes you wonder even more why they were rummaging in the fridge in the first place!
