I'm back in Tucson! I have my phone charging and a cup of tea cooling as I wait for my shift to start. I'm super tired, but hopefully the caffeine will help.

On this trip, I learned that...

1. I am capable of flying to a strange state on my own, driving two hours in the snow, and still having the energy necessary to lead a bunch of preschoolers in a story time.

2. I can roll with the punches when a flight is delayed and I'm stranded in Minnesota.

3. ....even when that means waking up at 3 in the morning.

4. Minnesota and Iowa are COLD.

5. ...but my allergies can't touch me there.

6. -14 is colder than it sounds. And it sounds pretty cold.

7. People in Tucson are uniquely rude. Seriously, nearly everyone I ran into in Minnesota and Iowa was polite, if not friendly. The rudeness began again when I got to LA, and stayed pretty much constant through Tucson. (As if to prove my point, I got a lovely customer whose complaint was essentially "How dare the man I want to talk to have a schedule that doesn't perfectly sync with mine!")

8. So no. I will not be sad to leave.

So today I discovered a book entirely full of selected Terry Pratchett Discworld quotes.

I am very happy that this book exists.

Also the Hebrew translations of "the places you'll go" is excellent .

Things That Happen In The Office:

*ThirdGen IM's me with a terrible Mistborn joke*

*three seconds later, I see him walking past my cube*

Me: "That was terrible! You are a terrible person, and you should feel bad!"

*ThirdGen proceeds to do a victory dance*

What was the joke?

Edit:  Sorry, party foul.  Spoilers for The Alloy of Law.

If Elendel had Reavers, Wax'd have to put a lot of Miles on his carriage.

The Midwest has a particular reputation for politeness (half of "Fargo" is making fun of it.)  A friend of mine went to New York not long ago and flagged down a UPS driver, asking him something along the lines of " 'Scuse me.  Sorry to bother you, but how do I get to [Whatever-It-Was Street]?"  What followed was:

"You're from the Midwest, ain'tcha?"

"Uhh, yes.  How did you know?"

" 'Cause ya apologize for bein' born before ya even talk to me!"

I'd take that--New York bluntness OR Midwestern politeness--over what we have in Tucson. Make a mistake, and no apology will heal the slight your mistake caused. Inconvenience a customer and may the Noodly One help you if you interrupt their angry tirade. I once had a customer hang up, call back, and demand to speak to my manager because I had the audacity to offer an immediate solution to her problem rather than listen to her rant about it for ten minutes. Forgot who wanted this, but registration for Flight Rising is open again.

I suppose it was me, althought I think I've changed my mind now and decided it is not my kind of thing.

Plus, now that I've managed to write half-consistently for the first time in life, I cannot afford the risk of actualy liking it

Yep, you got it.

If you have any questions don't be afraid to comment on my profile/leave a note.

I did have one--are multi chapter fa fictions possible with the site format, or do different chapters have to be uploaded as separate deviations?

Well, you have a few options there.

Your first one is to upload the entire story into a file, which can get messy.

You can upload parts of the story (like you did) and provide links to the others.

Or you can upload chapter by chapter.

In your gallery, you can start a folder for your story and put the chapters in there as seperate deviations, if that makes sense? And in the description, put a link to each of the other chapters.

I...might need directions to a how-to page. Later. When I'm not so tired.

This is why I just started my own private blog. More effort to set up, but it's so easy to get a new post up. And no authentication or anything.

Deviantart gains more publicity faster.

Meh, I need to ask him out tomorrow but storm it, I can't work up the courage.

Meh, I need to ask him out tomorrow but storm it, I can't work up the courage.

The tip for this is knowing what will encourage you.

For example, some people will be more courageous if they plan it out meticulously beforehand to the nth degree. (Looking at you, Steris.) Others will be more comfortable just winging it and seeing how it goes.

I don't know which type you are. It could be either. But either way, I wish you the best of luck.

It's so worth it when it's right.  It's so worth it.

It only takes one minute of courage to walk over and get the words out your mouth. You can do this Lark! You got this.

Indeed, just imagine that Wit is standing next to you and if you chicken out will make some suitably embarrassing quip. Alternatively if you'd quite like Wit to make a quip, imagine he's standing next to you and once you successfully ask him out Wit will make a suitably embarrassing quip. :P
