Long Game 14: To Shatter a Shard

Day Three: I am Fire.

Odium stared down at the foe he had come to destroy. A foe that they had decided was a threat to their plans. One who must be struck down.

Odium stared down at the Stick and tried to remember why he had thought that.

He reached out with his foot and tapped it. It rocked back and forth until it resettled into it’s original position. It didn’t appear to be a threat. It didn’t appear to be capable of anything at all. How had it even registered as a member of the Seventeenth Shard? It was a Stick!

“Bloody Endowment giving out power to any old object now.” He scowled down at the stick. What a waste of time.

He reached into his pack, and pulled out a metal canister, full of Scadrial newest invention; Gasoline. He tore the lid off and upended the canister onto the stick, dousing it completely in the flammable liquid. Then he took a match, also from Scadrial, struck it against his Hatred, and dropped it into the pool of Gasoline. The fire exploded into life, blinding him, and certainly incinerating the Stick.

Odium watched as the fire burned lower and lower, scorching the earth around it. He waited until there was only smoke left before turning away and returning to Braize to prepare for the next day.

Had he turned back, he would have seen the charred, yet still whole, Stick start to roll away across the ground, thinking to itself, as it always did, I am a Stick!

Araris carefully poured the steel dust into the vial, measuring it to the last grain. It wouldn’t do to give too much to a customer, nor too little. Always just enough. Exisa had appreciated that attention Araris had to detail. It was really a shame the man had been killed. And not just because he had been Araris’s best customer. The man had been trustworthy.

Araris carefully packed the vial of steel into a box, ready to be shipped or sold as per the customers order. That done, he sealed the box, and prepared to close up his workshop for the day. He was interrupted by the bell above the door ringing as it was opened. “I’ll be out in a moment!” He hurriedly put the box with it’s fellows and entered the front of the shop, letting his forge gloves fall off his hands as he did.

“Now sir, how can I help- Oh wow.” He stopped his customary greeting at the sight of the figure in the store. She was composed entirely of a soft green light, and seemed to radiate Power.

“You are Araris the Metalcrafter?”

He drew himself up to his full height and nodded. “Yes. You are I presume, The Shardholder of Endowment?”

“Yes.”

He grinned. “So am I to be the new holder of Ruin then?”

There was a long pause, long enough for Araris to lose his confidence and start sweating. FInally, Endowment answered. “You could say so.” Her tone was much more menacing than he was expecting from her. “Here, catch.” She swung her hands forward, as if tossing a ball, and a orb of Black smoke sailed through the air.

Araris reached out and caught it. And Screamed.

Pain overwhelmed him. It felt like Molten lead was being poured through his veins. He could no longer understand what was happening outside his own mind. All he could feel, was the pain as his body was ripped to pieces.

“Good bye, Araris.”

Kipper was attacked, but Survived!

Araris was a Regular Worldhopper!

The Day will end on Tuesday the 8th!

I messed up. Phattemer was Invested by Preservation before he died. He should have survived the Lynch, unfortunately, many things happened due to his death. He is now our resident Pinch Hitter. so Tell me if you can't play anymore.

I'm struggling to figure out why Odium and his Champions haven't used both kills. They have the ability to make two kills a cycle. They can also use them both on the same person to double-tap and remove protection from their target. So, unless Kipper had two extra lives, which I doubt he managed to swing, they're only using one kill.

They can't attack the same person unless they have ruin as well. Odium can only kill shards and his invested target can only kill Non shards.

But look at the Special Notes under Odium. I've been Odium before, I know how he works. If both he and his Champion target the same person, whoever's kill will kill the person goes through and kills. If there is a layer of protection, whichever kill wouldn't work strips that protection so that the other one can kill.

So, Kipper survived. Tell me, Joe, if Odium attempts to kill a non-shard would it still warrant a write-up? Or do you only reveal it to the public if there's an actual source of protection on him? In the case of the latter, I wonder how Kipper survived.

Also I didn't know Endowment could use another Shards power; unless Ruin was given to someone else and that green glow / declaration is a trick / lie. If it's true, Endowment definitely comes off as evil to me, which is super scary to think about. If Endowment is an OC too we are in a lot of trouble. If it was a lie, then Endowment should reveal who she gave Ruin, as they may very well be an OC.

Also, Phatt is still alive, then?

It's also worth noting that the person Endowment gave Ruin to can only use the investment ability, which is the roleblock and not the kill. Endowment is the only Shard able to use the Shardic ability once the Shard dies (and isn't Shattered).

Ahh, I see now. So then Endowment is simply someone who thought Araris was worth killing before giving up Ruin. Very well then, carry on :X

EDIT: Oh! So Endowment can use Devotion then too to create an Awakener; I hope she makes a good choice.

Ah, right; so many rules to keep track of. I'm going to have to start rereading them daily.

So really there isn't much to learn from last turn, at least in the benefit of the Villagers. It should be expected that Kipper be attacked early on by the OCs, whether or not he is one, and trying to figure out who Endowment is would only help out the OCs. Any other leads we can pursue?

Sorry I haven't been too active in this game recently. I have had limited time to spend on SE and have been spending most of it on MR8 since I understand what is happening there better.

I will be hopefully able to spend more time on here in the upcoming days. Sorry for not posting any real analysis but I am still unsure of what all has happened so far especially since my PMs have been quite dead.

Thanks Preservation. o.O

I wasn't really worried, because whatever they tried to do to me, I am a Stick.

I'll wait a bit to place my vote, because there's so many good options.

Also, if you are an Awakener, would you please get in touch with me or Wilson in some way? I'm not sure how to go about it if you aren't in contact with either of us already, but hopefully you can work something out. I can't stress enough how important your role is for TG.

I apologize for not being very active recently. I wasn't expecting to be as busy as I have been this past week. I'm going to try and keep up with the game still, but I probably still won't be on very much.

My PM's have died at this point, and I have no real leads, considering most of this game seems to be played off-screen, so I'm going to wait until later this cycle before placing a vote, assuming I even get back on in time to vote.

Ah. So if Phat didn't actually die, then Wilson didn't actually die, which means the lifeless is still alive. And that means I don't get to see how a lifeless dies by saving someone from poison. Curses.

Well since you've got cultivation on your side can't you just get her to put you in a 1 on 1 with every player in the game? I feel like that would solve your problem fairly easily.

Sorry! Been doing some job hunting and personal stuff lately, which is why...lack of activity (and roleplay).

Though...yeah, not sure what to say, since things are kinda quiet. So... I'm gonna make a post, to at least start some kinda debate here.

Voting for Clanky. I feel bad, if it is because of school, but...

I dunno. Something about your posts in the other thread seemed...off to me.

(Of course, I'm mostly voting so we can get the ball rolling on conversation, so...)

It's so much trouble to keep up with :P And I always end up dying when I do that...

Just so everyone knows, I'm going to be a bit more inactive for the next turn or two. I've spent about 11 hours over the last few days on an exam for my calculus class, and adding other school, work, and general life stuff leaves almost no time for anything extra (like this). :( I will be as active as possible.

Edit: Paranoid King, I still want you dead. You people wanted to lynch phattemer yesterday for some strange reason that I still haven't figured out...:P...die now!

Well to be fair, Phatterner was really suspicious. When asked why he poisoned Wilson, he didn't respond, yet seemed to confirm that he poisoned Wilson. I couldn't figure out why he would poison someone, and then not explain himself when confronted.

Additionally, he removed his vote from me so that there wouldn't be a tie between him and I. That action seemed suspicious at the time, as though he figured that would stop people from lynching him. All I wanted was an explanation, and he didn't provide one.

Alvom, my vote's on you. You've seem to have been playing up the naive new player role quite a bit when in other games, you've shown yourself to be a good player. A couple other things you've said have just felt off as well.

Fine, I'll remove my vote on Paranoid King. I'm actually going to go for Alvom as well. His whole play this game has seemed off to me, and the PM I have with him has only made me more suspicious. He was (I think) the only person who thought I would not be protected, which could explain the attack on me, not Wilson.

Today's posts from Alvom:

Post 1: Seems to be expressing surprise at how I survived, perhaps because he wasn't expecting me to live. Suggests that Endowment might be evil, and that they should out who they are in thread.

Post 2: Explains misreading of rules.

Post 3: Suggests that there is not much we can learn from the last Night, because a. It's expected for me to die, and b. Figuring out who Endowment is will only help the OCs.

Well, I certainly didn't expect me to die, so I'm glad Preservation Invested in me. I, for one, don't understand why Wilson didn't get knocked off with a double tap.

@Mailliw: I know it certainly seems that way, but the fact of the matter is, with the rather large gaps in my activity this game, I forgot a lot of details I had studied up on in the beginning. I'll admit I should have referred back to the rules before posting, but because of the small window I had to actually post at the time, I just dove straight into it. Between this and MR8, this game's rules are a lot more complex and as a whole I am still very new. All I can say is, I made a couple dumb statements, and if that warrants being killed then I will welcome it with a heavy heart and wish everyone the best in the future (though I really don't think it'll come to that).

@Kipper: In regards to my first post, I just wanted to know whether or not Odium targeting a non-shard would warrant a write-up, since he can only kill Shards. Also I did not tell Endowment to out herself, I suggested she reveal who she gave Ruin, and didn't think I needed to specify to someone she trusts privately (implication). This was before I understood she could use their ability before giving it to someone. My statement of me expecting you to be attacked early on mirrors your statement in Day 1 of MR8 where you claim that you aren't surprised Wilson received the extra vote. Same exact logic, given you two are among the more experienced and connected players. Am I wrong that trying to figure out who Endowment is in the public thread would only benefit the OCs? By all means, discuss it in secret, but my point is some discussion in this forum needs to be made, and that those two subjects wouldn't help us much.

EDIT: Fixed grammar/wording

Ummm Mailliw73. You were very eager to see phat and Cult dead, and even if your excuse is that you wanted discussion, I still think it's better to lynch you than Alvom.
