Draginon he/him Posted July 20, 2020 Posted July 20, 2020 Officially finished Assassin’s Creed Origins last night. I loved the game and how it spends the majority of the time as a revenge story instead of it only being about the origins of the brotherhood. Bayek was the better protagonist to focus on than Aya since she’s goes the Ezio route but with him you get all the grief and anger but you also get him trying to help people better themselves, especially the children he runs across. I definitely put him in my top 5 favorite Assassins we play as. As for the additional stuff The Hidden Ones was cool in showing how the whole “stay your blade from the blood of the innocent” came to be, Curse of the Pharaohs was honestly one of the best DLC stories they’ve made so far Spoiler Especially when they have you visit the afterlives of Egyptian mythology And Discovery Mode was just like visiting a museum. I spent the whole day doing all the tours and found it fascinating all the topics covered, especially when they got to BTS stuff on why the team went a certain route for something. It was so neat in the tour for The Siege of Alexandria how the environment actually updated itself to reflect the topic at hand. I’m taking a short break from gaming to watch a couple movies/shows but will jump into Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. I’m almost tempted to jump right into Discovery Mode there since I loved it in Origins.
Briar King Posted July 20, 2020 Posted July 20, 2020 I’m quite surprised no one else had mentioned Ghost of Tsushima
Wyndlerunner he/him Posted July 21, 2020 Posted July 21, 2020 Been trying to go through Bravely Default on 3DS to prepare for BD2 on Switch (and yes, I know that Bravely Second is the actual sequel for Bravely Default, and I do plan on playing that one as well). Can confidently say that I love the game so far. Although, just want to publicly announce my feelings for Red Mage Fiore DeRosa: "You are a horrible person, that's what it says. A horrible person. We weren't even testing for that"- GLaDOS.
Emi she/her Posted July 22, 2020 Posted July 22, 2020 I’m just playing Hollow Knight. Yes, I know that it’s not very new, but I started it a while after finishing Ori and the Will of the Wisps as I loved it! And I must say, that I’m bad at it. I have already 40h played and I still didn’t finished the game. 2

Eluvianii he/him Posted July 25, 2020 Posted July 25, 2020 Got excited with the SMT V trailer and pushed a few games to the backburner to play Apocalypse. Gotta say, this game is so lighthearted compared to the original. It's like the first game already made you suffer with the difficult questions, so with this one you can just have fun. I like it. It's two perspectives on the same setting.
Use the Falchion Posted August 2, 2020 Posted August 2, 2020 Fire Emblem Heroes. Now let me start by saying I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS GAME FOR ANYONE. Gatcha games are the worst, and while Heroes isn't as bad as some from what I've heard, it's still a gatcha game and now worth playing. I play Heroes because 1) I'm trash, 2) I like most things Fire Emblem related, and this is only half of an exception, and 3) it's cool for all of those head-canon/fanfiction ideas and meetings you always wanted but never had. If you ever thought Marisa and Ephraim would be a cute couple, Heroes is your place to make that happen. You ship Lucina and Ryoma? S support them in Heroes! If you have an extremely fanfiction-y head-canon where: Spoiler Most of the games happen over a series of generations (Awakening is the first generation. FE 7, Sacred Stones, and Fates Gen 1 is second generation. Fates Gen 2, Binding Blade, and Three Houses are the third generation) so that you can have a world where Soleil, Shigure, and Saul are all the children of Chrom!Inigo and Azura, and you have a support chain for them based in Three House's world...and in this world, Soleil and Dorothea dated before coming to Garrag Mach (separately, but they meet again)... you can make that team! ...minus Saul because he's not in the game...don't judge me... I usually don't consider this a game that I "play," but I'm taking a break from TMS for a moment, and while I want to try out Uncharted again (I have the trilogy on my PS4), I'm not super motivated to do so at this moment. Sometime later this week maybe. If you're interested in Fire Emblem, I recommend starting with Path of Radiance (GameCube...if you can find it) Awakening (3DS), Echoes: Shadows of Valentia (3DS) or Three Houses (Switch). FE 7/Fire Emblem is also a great place to start if you don't mind emulating games. But if you do mind emulating games and you don't have any of the mentioned systems...Heroes isn't the worst place to start playing Fire Emblem (although it's down there).
Eluvianii he/him Posted August 3, 2020 Posted August 3, 2020 I like gachas, I'm not sure I understand the hate they get. Speaking of Fire Emblem, I just finished Awakening at around 48 hours. It's not the first FE I play but it's the first one I beat, mainly because while I love everything about this series so far, I also have a really short fuse and restarting a stage fifteen times does things to you. So yeah, I played on casual. I'm not sure I love how the story is told in short cutscenes before and after a stage, playing a few in a row makes it feel as if the plot was advancing too fast. Not that bad though, there were plenty of other places to get more story bits in between. Grinding makes a huge difference in this game. It was a difficult game until I started using reeking boxes and suddenly my army transformed into a band of psychopaths swearing each other eternal love as they slaughtered enemies without even looking at them. Also, the supports. I know some like them and some don't but those are like another game in and of themselves if you like shipping characters. Which I do. A lot. Actually, here's the full list: Spoiler Robin x Cordelia Chrom x Sumia Virion x Sully Donnel x Lissa Frederick x Panne Gaius x Olivia Kellam x Tharja Vaike x Nowi Gregor x Cherche Lon'qu x Miriel Ricken x Maribelle Cynthia x Laurent Severa x Brady Kjielle x Owain Nah x Inigo Morgan x Gerome Noire x Yarn (Also, Tiki x Say'ri should be doable. Fight me) I also got all the family bonds for Robin and Chrom and their families and I was planning to continue and do that until I ran out of possible supports but I decided at that rate the game would never end, and that I still have to play the rest of the series so I'm saving that for a second run. So yeah, overall I really liked the game. Great soundtrack too, I can't take Id - Purpose out of my head. I'm really looking forward to Fates now, I've been excited about that one since its anouncement. 1
aneonfoxtribute Posted August 3, 2020 Posted August 3, 2020 You should know that Fates is regarded as one of if not the worst game in the series and most say its plot is measy
Eluvianii he/him Posted August 3, 2020 Posted August 3, 2020 Yeah, I haven't heard many good things about it, but I find the concept behind that game interesting enough to still have quite a bit of faith in it.
Zurvanight he/him Posted August 4, 2020 Posted August 4, 2020 Final Fantasy XIV. I've been trying to level up most of my classes to 80. I managed in the last month to get Dark Knight, Gunbreaker, Machinist, Summoner, and Scholar all up to max level, each with a decent, but not perfect item level. I started leveling a Marauder in order to unlock Warrior, and my Monk is level 76 as of today. I'm also in the middle of working on another one of the Anima Weapons. It's the Dark Knight weapon which looks really cool, but I'm on one of the worst steps right now. I'm super excited for the newest patch:

I personally am not a fan of the gambling/predatory nature of them. It's the same reason I'm not a giant fan of trading card games anymore. As a kid they were fine when you didn't know any better. As an adult I find it annoying and almost insulting that I don't get to spend in-game currency to at least SEE what my odds are. To me, that's the kicker. If I'm going for a Red Unit, I want to see that at least there's a Red in the summoning pool before I waste five orbs. Wasting orbs/currency on the chance of getting the color needed and then hoping that said color will net you what you want is a step too far for me, if this wasn't Fire Emblem. I'd rather just pay an extra amount of orbs/currency and get exactly what I want. I'm here to enjoy the games and the characters, not the randomness of predatory nature of gatcha games. Gatcha games and loot boxes are far too similar for my tastes as well (unless the loot boxes are simply skins. Then it's fine). 10 minutes ago, Eluvianii said: Speaking of Fire Emblem, I just finished Awakening at around 48 hours. Oh Awakening and Grinding...good times. One of the best DLC purchases I've ever made... 13 minutes ago, Eluvianii said: like shipping characters. Which I do. A lot. You and me both. LET'S DO THIS. 13 minutes ago, Eluvianii said: Actually, here's the full list: Reveal hidden contents Interesting list! We share a few in common, and I'd say the ones we don't are pretty common among fans on your end, so you're in good company. I think you'll have a few fun surprises in store for Fates My list: Spoiler Robin x Tharja and/or Robin x Aversa - I like Morgan with that platinum-blonde hair. Aversa passes down a wicked-good magic stat as well as Shadowgift, which is too much fun not to use. The only pain is that Aversa can't pass down Galeforce immediately as well, but Morgan starts out in the Pegasus Rider class with mostly capped stats, so switching to Dark Flier upon recruitment and grinding won't take long (money shouldn't be a problem at this rate). Besides, Aversa!Morgan as a Sage is hilariously fun. She can use Mire and kill someone from halfway across the map one turn, and then either rally or Fortify or rescue the next. It's great! F!Robin (who I call Raven or Rowan) x Priam - Priam gives Morgan the hair color closest to his canonical one, and I just like them together. Priam is a controversial character however, so don't go off of my stuff. Chrom x Olivia - I highly, HIGHLY recommend you try this pairing on your third playthrough. Olivia is a great mom to Lucina stat-wise and class-wise; and Inigo really pops as Chrom's son. He's the only other child of Chrom to mention the Brand of the Exalt, his father supports match up really well if Chrom is his father (it becomes less about "why can't you be as cool as Lucina" and transforms into "why can't you be like your sister," which stings a LOT more), and he looks the part. Inigo is also just a great unit, and Rightful King makes him an even better one. Gaius x Sumia - I really hate how few supports Sumia has and how this pair wastes Gaius passing down Pegasus Knight to a child who needs it like Noire; but in this pairing Cynthia becomes one of - if not the - fastest unit in the game. Gotta go fast! Frederick x Panne - Yarne gains all the skills he could ever want. Ricken x Miriel - Laurent now has red hair again and the highest magical stat in the game. Also, it makes sense given that Ricken a child who wants to be an adult while his adult son is a man who was forced to grow up too fast (Laurent was canonically the youngest one pre-time travel). Lon'qu x Maribelle - Brady talks like his dad and can make a mighty-fine Trickster. Henry x Lissa - Their supports are just plain cute. Besides, a lot of Owain's characteristics make sense with Henry as his dad. And Henry is the ONLY father not to get angry at Owain in their B support. Donnel x Nowi - Donnel was the only person I felt comfortable pairing Nowi with. I tried with Vaike and it still makes me feel weird. Besides, Nowi gains a nice stat growth boost, access to Galeforce (not that she needs it), and either Armsthrift or Aptitude. Gregor x Cherche - Shared past that doesn't force Minerva into the story, nice chemistry, and a great Gerome in both skills and class options. What more is needed? I don't usually like pairing up the children units, but the one I do like is Noire x Laurent. Laurent is into some pretty kinky stuff and it's fun to see. Nah x Gerome comes in second place, but I'm not sold on that one yet. 14 minutes ago, Eluvianii said: second run. And third...? And fourth...? 15 minutes ago, Eluvianii said: I'm really looking forward to Fates now, I've been excited about that one since its anouncement. Oh have fun! Yeah the announcement trailer was DOPE! I'm not the first and I won't be the last to tell you that Fates is seen as a problem child. There are definitely things to love in Fates: the new classes are delightful, the gameplay mechanics are great (they fixed Pair-Up so it's less broken, both to our delight and dismay), the new characters have some pretty great designs (Orochi (my first Fates waifu!), Ryoma, Hinoka, Laslow, Xander, Shiro, etc), and the music is among the best in the series. Heck, out of all of the FE games I've played, in terms of hours Fates: Revelation ranks second (Awakening is first at over 950 hours, Birthright/Revelation at over 700, and I'd say Three Houses is after that at around 300). But people aren't wrong about the story complaints. Birthright is simple, Conquest has great maps (from what I've heard, I never got too far in) as well as a grating story, and Revelation bends over backwards to explain things but sacrifices gameplay balance in order to do so (characters like Laslow, Nyx, Peri, and Odin join far too late and far too under-leveled. It's possible to make them work - I've done so repeatedly - but the hours of grinding needed can be mind-numbing). At the end of the day, however, you make your own choices and your own opinions. I will leave you with a few tips: 1. If you're playing Birthright, choose a Nohrian class. If you're playing Conquest, choose a Hoshidan Class. If you're playing Revelation, choose Oni Savage. I'd recommend NOT choosing Troubadour, Ninja or Cavalier on any route. You will gain access to these pretty naturally (if you are playing as a male. If you are playing as a woman and NOT romancing the characters that give you the class, then it's perfectly acceptable to choose Cavalier in Birthright and Ninja in Conquest). 2. All units have a Primary Class and a Secondary Class, not three classes like in Awakening. 3. Same sex units can now A+ Support each other. This does not mean they are romantically involved. There is only one same-sex marriage for the Avatar per gender. This just means that one unit can Friendship Seal another. I will explain more in the next point. 4. There are two more types of Seals in addition to Master Seals and Second Seals. These are Partner Seals and Friendship Seals. Partner Seals allow one to take the Primary Class of their romantic partner while Friendship Seals allow one to take the Primary Class of their A+ support. A+ Supports are not mutual. Sakura can A+ Hana in order to gain the Samurai (new Myrmidon) class, while at the same time Hana can A+ Support Felicia in order to gain the Maid class. That means that there is a LOT of room to explore here, so have fun! (Also the Avatar does not A+ Support anyone, but can gain the Primary Class of any same sex unit they've reached an A support with. So max out those supports!). I'll get into a little more detail below, but feel free to skip it if you like discovering these sorts of quirks on your own. Spoiler If two characters share the same Primary Class, they will gain access to each other's Secondary Class. This works for both Partner Seals and Friendship Seals. For example, if you marry Hana and Ryoma, Hana will gain access to Sky Knight and Ryoma will gain access to Monk. But if one of the units in question already has that class, then they gain nothing from that Seal. For example, if Sakura Friendship Seals Hana, Sakura will gain access to the Samurai line. We mentioned that above, right? But if HANA Friendship Seals Sakura, Hana will gain nothing since the samurai already has the Priestess class as her Secondary Class. 5. There is a second generation in Fates. Yes, it's poorly implemented. It helps if you just think of them as children who came from the future aka Awakening. All you need to know is that inheritance goes: Child(ren)'s Primary Class > Father's Class > Mother's Class. 6. Slight spoiler that I chose not to take on my first playthrough of Birthright and I sort of regret it. I'm putting the advice in spoilers Spoiler Get to an A Rank support with Kaze. 7. Have fun!
Eluvianii he/him Posted August 4, 2020 Posted August 4, 2020 I kinda like the uncertainty. It's fun watching the animation, trying to guess if you got a rare unit, and then if you got the one you wanted. And I find it oddly satisfying when I do get the one I wanted, or a rare one I hadn't even contemplated, and I don't really spend money on these things, so there's nothing lost either way. I'm somewhat proud of my Fate GO collection, even though I'm a really inactive player. 3 hours ago, Use the Falchion said: I usually don't play on casual, but I'm happy it got you through the game. Just please don't use Phoenix Mode in Fates... I do like the classic mode, and even on casual I restart almost every time a unit dies, but I guess knowing I have the option of just keep going gives me some peace of mind. I do plan on returning to the Path of Radiance/Radiant Dawn duology, then the GBA ones and then FE4 (and the sequels it apparently has?). That last one seems to be on a pedestal and I really want to see how it got there. 3 hours ago, Use the Falchion said: My list: I'm intrigued about pairing Robin with Tharja if only because I'm interested in seeing what happens when obsessed characters actually get what they want. Chrom x Olivia also seems to be really popular. I liked him with Sumia but for a couple that is aparently canon, their supports were surprisingly simple, kind of cringy at times? Which in turn leads us to Gaius x Sumia. Not gonna lie, I was already considering that one for another run and it's solely because pies. Regarding Nowi, I still don't know how I feel about her since she looks so young but I paired her pretty late and only got to try with Henry and Vaike, and between those two I really liked her relationship with Vaike (Henry had good intentions but seemed to be looking for a way to shove her problems under the rug). 3 hours ago, Use the Falchion said: And third...? And fourth...? And maybe sixth or seventh. In practice I don't know how it is but this game seema to have a massive amount of replayability. I'll try to keep in mind the advice for Fates (actually I should take a screenshot), I'm starting Birthright and already the mechanics seem really different. I hope I can build numbers like those some day. The story here started really strong imo and the game is much more cinematic so the future looks good. Also I'm both proud and ashamed to say that I'm already hard at work forming couples, and I freaking love the idea of A+. Something like that was needed. 1

That last one seems to be on a pedestal and I really want to see how it got there. Story, lore, shock value, and scope. Fun fact, Awakening and Three Houses were directly inspired by FE 4. The academy setting in Three Houses was inspired by the fact that three of the main characters went to a military academy together before the game took place, and the entire plot of Awakening is like an abridged version of FE 4 with some fanservice thrown in. Genealogy of the Holy War was followed up by Thracia 776, which follows a relative of FE4's main characters named Leif as he fights to free his homeland from those who occupy it. It's more of an interquel, since most of the game actually takes place between Part 1 and Part 2 of Genealogy. However due to the vast differences in gameplay and mechanics, most fans would rather remakes of the games be separated rather than combined. I'd prefer combined, but I know I'm in the minority. Thracia 776 known for introducing mechanics such as Capture, Fog of War, Stamina, and a few more. It's an odd duck in the family, but it's not the only odd duck. A new fan translation for it was completed a few months ago I believe, and it's difficulty makes it a popular game among hardcore players. 44 minutes ago, Eluvianii said: I'm intrigued about pairing Robin with Tharja if only because I'm interested in seeing what happens when obsessed characters actually get what they want. It's a weird thing, Robin and Tharja's relationship. On one hand, nothing really changes, so there's no problem. On the other hand, Noire's support chain with Robin as her father really don't lend itself to Robin actually being her father (unless it's something like Hinata's pedestal of Naruto, which seemingly came down after marriage (in a good way)). On the other, other hand, Tharja is one of the few wives that Robin has dialogue with in the DLC adventures (others include Cordelia, Severa, and Lucina. I'm sure there's at least one more but those are the ones I remember off the top of my head), and Tharja's inclusion and support with Robin in Fire Emblem Warriors makes me think that the creators want them to be shipped together. Not to mention that Robin and Tharja share at least one banner together in Heroes. The same is partially true for Olivia and Chrom in regards to FE Warriors I'd say (but to a far lesser degree). 57 minutes ago, Eluvianii said: Chrom x Olivia also seems to be really popular. They have great supports, the game alludes to their whirlwind romance, and overall are cute together. Also fun fact, most of Chrom's love interests seem to be references to other canonical or semi-canonical pairings in FE lore. Spoiler Chrom and Sumia are a clear allusion to Marth and Caeda. (FE 1/11 & 3/12) Chrom and Maribelle are a reference to Leif and Nanna from Thracia 776. (FE 5) Chrom and Robin are a clear reference to Sigurd and Deirdre in ways so obvious to fans of both that it annoys me more people don't see it. (FE 4) Chrom and Olivia seem to be a reference to Eliwood and Ninian (FE 7) The only one that doesn't fit is Sully, but I can see her being a reference to Seth and Eirika in Sacred Stones (FE 8). 1 hour ago, Eluvianii said: Regarding Nowi, I still don't know how I feel about her since she looks so young but I paired her pretty late and only got to try with Henry and Vaike, and between those two I really liked her relationship with Vaike (Henry had good intentions but seemed to be looking for a way to shove her problems under the rug). Definitely try out Nowi and Donnel. They have some pretty cute supports and Nah likes Donnel as a dad. Wait! That's who I forgot above! I forgot to include Vaike and Sully! Yeah, I ship them. I like how Vaike is the manly man but it's Sully is the one who gets all the girls. And Vaike can actually cook (Sully, Chrom, and Kjelle all have terrible cooking skills) and doesn't care about traditionally feminine stuff (something Sully worries about in some of her supports (particularly with Chrom, Miriel, and a little with Vaike). And Kjelle can use Axefaire in a multitude of classes, along with that nice strength boost (Sully passes down a NEGATIVE strength stat, weirdly enough). 51 minutes ago, Eluvianii said: And maybe sixth or seventh. It really does. 51 minutes ago, Eluvianii said: Also I'm both proud and ashamed to say that I'm already hard at work forming couples Shipping isn't something to be ashamed of in Fire Emblem! It's a perfectly reasonable reason to play (and replay...and replay...and replay...) the games! Birthright couples...I'll try not to influence you too much, but I WILL say that Ryoma and Orochi make for a great couple by their supports but a TERRIBLE couple in actuality. The same is true for Kaze and Orochi. Neither Shiro (Ryoma's kid) nor Midori (Kaze's kid) need the magic she provides, and she utterly butchers their speed stats and speed growths. Let me know who you ship by the end of the game, and then again for Conquest, and then finally for Revelation! 1
Briar King Posted August 5, 2020 Posted August 5, 2020 Still in love with Ghost of Tsushima! Not playing it all day like I was the 1st week and a half but for sure it’s taking up my normal 4pm and 11pm till ambien blitz time slots that is reserved for games. This game is great! Still doing Cold Steel 2 for a few moments in between to.
