I'm new to the board, but I'm sure I'll be in on this discussion a lot. I don't just read books, I devour them. In the past week I finished The Emperor's Blades and Providence of Fire by Brian Stavely, and Prince of Thorns by Mark Lawrence. I can't believe I haven't heard more about Stavely! Those books were excellent.

I just meant Furies of Calderon, it's been on my shelf for almost a month. I have a harder time getting around to reading paper backs(which is what my copy of it is) than hardcovers, which are what the rest of the books I've been reading have been.

I'm currently reading Codex Alera. I'm up to book 5, but I have been at it for a several weeks now. I should be done before spring

Alera is one of my favorite series. So fun

The most important bit of Furies is to make it to the end. A lot of people had problems wit it because it's the typical farm boy to hero story. Bk 2 is when you really start to realize your reading something different and insanely fun.

Wuts Elnakam about (besides the vengeance of a deity)? I'm just finishing War and Peace (record time!), and need something to think about till next Tuesday.

Actually, Elnakam is a nonfiction account of a member of the Lehi- a group of Jewish freedom fighters who tried to achieve jewish autonomy in Israel during the time of the British mandate by force. Elnakam was the code name of the author, who is also the main character in the book.

Powder Mage trilogy is finished and I would recommend it to anyone who is looking for something action packed and interesting to read.

I just finished book one of Runelords and I thought it was really cool.  I liked the magic system of endowments(and its consequences on society) as well as the different elemental powers. I am excited to see how the rest goes!

I really liked Runelords one, but didn't much like the next three. I'm not sure whether there's a consensus on how much people like the different books, but I think I might be in the minority.

Its been a while since I read Runelords, but I remember liking them pretty well.

Finally got around to finishing Dust of Dreams.  now just need to make it through The Crippled God.  I like this series, but it is so ense that it makes itdifficult to get through sometimes, especially now that my attention has started to wander

I am at book 5. It is slightly predictable, but enjoyable.

Although I would agree that the next few books of Runelords drop in quality, books 2-4 are still pretty good. And though 5 is truly horrible, 6 and 7 are rather awesome, and I remember thinking the eighth was pretty good too.

Currently finishing up The Name of the Wind. Sadly I didn't love it and won't continue the series. I didn't hate it either. It was well told but just didn't seem to have anything that shocked me, the characters were just fine.......just wasn't feeling it at all.

I'm considering the following series to which I'll leave it up to fate. First person to reply with the one I just have to read because it was so good I'll chance it. They are all fantasy series books.

The Blade Itself

The Black Prism

Assassin's Apprentice

Garden's of the Moon

The Aeronaut's  Windglass

Theft of Swords

I have only read The Black Prism out of those, but I liked it, so read it.

Ah, man... City of Blades comes out tomorrow along with Bands of Mourning! Why, or why did I not take this week off?

City of Blades is the sequel to City of Stairs, which I think Peter Ahlstrom recommended on the Brandon Sanderson website once upon a time, so thanks for the recommendation, Peter!

for what its worth, there is a lot of discussion in this thread about the Malazan Book of the Fallen series (Gardens of the moon is from that) and a lot of people will tell you you can/should skip that one and get back to it basically because it drops you in with almost no hand holding to introduce the world to you.  That means it can be a bit tough to get in to.

I wouldn't say to skip Gardens at all. Gardens is great and it makes you use your brain in the best way but some have trouble with it for some reason.

I agree with you, I was just pointing out the opinion I have seen floating around.  personally I liked it

I've read The Black Prism, Assassin's Apprentice, and about 400 pages of Gardens of the Moon. I gave up on Gardens because I still had no real idea of what was going on with the world, and I hated all of the characters. I'll get back to the series some day, probably, but I haven't yet.

I love most of Robin Hobb's Realm of the Elderlings books. I didn't like the Dragonkeepers serie. There are 4 books in that one, and I just quit in the middle of the first one. I found it boring. The others are great, though. I actually read them in the wrong order by accident, but it didn't really matter that much. I read the Farseer trilogy first, then The Tawny Man trilogy, and Liveship Traders after that. It turned out that the last series took place in between the first two, there, but it happened in a different country, with very little overlap between plot and characters.

I read Lightbringer about a year ago, and I thought it was a really good series. I think that Weeks' writing is in the same school as Sanderson's in a way that one can't really say about any other author but Brian McClellan. I'm excited for the last volume to come out.

Bands of Mourning :)

picked up my copy today, but want to finish "The Crippled God" first before I get into it.  this is going to be even further slowed by the fact that I now have a Wii U so my free time will be further split.

Should've gotten a PS4! :)

Ed:Or waited till the holidays for the new Nintendo NX.

considered both options, and if the ps4 were backwards compatible with the ps3, I might have gotten that.  but as it stands, I haven't gotten a new system since the PS2 and never had any of the non-handheld nintendo systems, so between the virtual console and backwards compatibility with the wii, the wii u has the most games available for it.  especially when ou add in the fact that nintendo has a great track record with games, and I don't like first person shooters (which seem to make up the vast majority of xbox games).  as for the nx, thereisnt enough detail out about it, and I didnt feel like waiting anyway.

making my way through The Crippled God much more quickly than I had the last 2 books (though the long snow weekend has something to do with that)

Finished Terry Pratchett's Making Money a few days ago. Good book, but my brain is filled with The Bands of Mourning I started and finished today, so I can't really give Pratchett his due. I can't even review Bands properly right now.
